Meet award-winning historical fiction author Lauren Willig

betrayal Stories set in the British Raj seem to have fallen out of favour in recent times. Though novels such as A Passage to India by E.M. Forster, The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye, Raj Quartet by Paul Scott have been made into films and television serials, among the current crop of authors who who write in the historical fiction genre few seem to be setting their stories in British India. So when I came across Lauren Willig’s novel, The Betrayal of the Blood Lily, I was intrigued and promptly bought a...

Indians are among the world’s top readers according to a recent survey. While the survey and its findings may be open to debate, the fact remains that there has been a spurt in the reading habit like never before. The growth of Indian writing, easy access to books online and the growth of e-tailing book stores have also contributed to this trend. Second hand books are being sold and bought...

A filmmaker’s journey of self-discovery

Vinod Pande is a name that many Indian filmgoers will recognise. As an auteur whose body of work has spanned three decades and includes films such as Ek Baar Phir, Yeh Nazdeekiyan and Sins, this filmmaker has never shied from taking up a challenging story telling project. He has often been accused of courting controversy but that hasn’t in any way stopped him from telling provocative stories. Mr. Pande is now on a new adventure….as an author. His debut book Don’s Wife is not for the faint-hea...

Excerpt from The Indian Tycoon’s Marriage Deal

vdayHappy Valentine’s Day!

Since we are celebrating all things romance, here’s an excerpt from my book…

If you enjoy reading how Krish and Maya meet up, please do let me know your thoughts.

Chapter One

‘YOU’RE SURE SHE will be here tonight?’

Krish strode into the glittering ballroom of New Delhi’s spanking new seven-star hotel, The Dev Residency, speaking softly into his BlackBerry. He wasn’t surprised at the confirmation, but he had to be one hundred percent certain.

‘And does she know who sent her the...

Jaipur Litfest’s “cool” quotient

crowdsRecently I came across a blogpost that asked the question “Who are the most avid readers in the world?”. To my utter shock, the answer was: Indians. I read the piece with disbelief, checked out the infographic that corroborated the write-up and was pretty amazed at the findings. According to the World Culture Score Index, Indians spend more than 10 hours per week reading! Despite the numbers I remained skeptical. Until I visited the Jaipur Litfest!

Global Novelists at the Jaipur LitFest

DSCN2247 (640x520)The Jaipur LitFest is a celebration of all things related to writing. Whether you are a reader, novelist, aspiring author, screenwriter, poet, graphic artiste or just a lover of books, Jaipur Lit Fest should definitely be on your to-do destination. It had been on mine for the last four years and finally, this year I had the good fortune of visiting the Litfest between 17th and 21st January. Nothing, not even the unusually cold winds and grey skies, could dampen my enthusiasm. And I wasn’t alo...

The New Year is upon us. Many of us have resolved to write and here’s a blog post that I hope will motivate all of you to work on your resolution…

Sometimes it’s a news story or a snippet of conversation that gives flight to your imagination. At other times it could be an interesting photograph or an old story that you heard from your parents. A visit to a pl...
