I get migraines, debilitating migraines that put me entirely out of commission for days at a time. I lay in bed, unable to sleep, and the pain is so much I honestly feel like I’m going to lose my mind. All I do is think, of everything all at once, which makes the pain worse, but it shows me in such intense clarity what I am made of. I am proud of what I can endure, what I can rise from. I know this.
Typewriter Series #3051 as read by me, Tyler Knott Gregson
I know pain as a cleansing thing,
mineral spirit and cloth
to the varnish we swore we were.
Strips to bare bone and sinew,
shines like X-ray, illuminates
the pulp of what keeps us
shouting.
I know hours that spill into days,
quicksilver to stone and I know eyes
that cannot close. I know sleep
a feathers width from reach, from grasp,
I know what it is to Call out
for darkness for death if it brings
something that sings as sweetly
as peace.
We lie and name ourselves mighty,
but are we not porcelain,
are we not the most fragile
of all things mortal?
In some cocoon of misery, forty some
hours since the genesis of this ache,
I name myself bravery manifest
for still fighting.
I am cleansed, purified by
this suffering, I will emerge
like man from marble, dusted
clean and shining under some
oculus. When this ebbs, I will rise,
newborn and weeping.

Funny how a place can sneak into your heart and eclipse so many others. How home can transform and pull you in a way you didn’t know possible. I WILL live in Scotland, I will call it home.
Home has migrated,
drifted across an ocean.
New roots in new soil.

Look, it’s simple, love who you wish. Love and love and love and love. You choose, you decide. Love is love folks. Embrace it.
Who if not for me,
why if not for simple love?
When if not for now?

Less, and I’d say more, be filled
with language that blossoms,
that flowers and throws
seed to wind. Less, and I could
describe it, explain this love
to anyone other than
you.
Home is hope,
given to the hopeless, to the
self-reliant swearing they need
nothing, to be alright.
Hope is home found thousands
of miles from it,
the slow billow of low cloud
on emerald peak, the ribbon
of road trailing off, remnants
of a gift torn open.
Less and I could say so much more,
let words find light like branch
from tree, let the trunk
stand sure
and hold us to the soil
we found ourselves on.
All I know to say, to sum up
all this more I am graced with,
is simple,
I am first to you,
and you, to me.

I think when you’ve fought so hard to find the love you found, you celebrate it. You shine every damn light you can find on it, you take the risk of vulnerability and admit that it transformed you. That it saves you. That it fills in the gaps. LOVE who you love, with all you’ve got, and damn the rest.
