Daily Prompt: Never gonna give you up

Vice, eh? – I could show you vice, alright … Oh my, could I show you vice !

viceConsider: the mother sitting in the bus with her revolting offspring of somewhere around 12, large and spotty, sitting next to her. As I struggle on, does she have the kid stand up for me? – she does not. In fact, she instantly starts to talk to him closely, face against face, so I won’t dare interrupt her. I dare. I win. Chi osa vinca after all.[grin]

Consider: the bloke in the fruit shop I haven’t been to before, wher...

Weekly Writing Challenge: The Sound of Silence

For this week’s challenge, we want you to take the theme of silence and explore it in your own way.

********************

I was invited to spend a day in the country with almost-friends. They held their hands out in future welcome.

“It will do you good!” they cried; “get you away from that horrible city noise you live with, all day, every day …” and they smiled, but there was an undeniable clean country air superiority framing the smiles.

I accepted because I couldn’t think quickly enough of an ex...

A special day

You’ll think it corny – and you’ll be sort of right – but I hereby announce that the 18th February is our wedding anniversary. Today it’s our 36th.

I don’t believe I need to say “It would have been …”, because even though Stringer is no longer with me to roll his eyes and pretend he’d forgotten all about it, the fact is that we were married on 18th February 1978, and nothing changes that.

So here’s a wedding day shot, Our four guests have been rudely excised; but they comprised our oldest and d...

Life in heaven

Remember my younger sister? – the one who lives in a rural heaven? She sends me photos by email, every so often; and I have accumulated enough to do a little slideshow.

She and I never get together any more: Hobart and Sydney are a fair way apart; and she not only helps around their property but also leads a busy part-time academic existence. She can’t help herself, alas! – the word ‘retirement’ is but a figleaf of her imagination[1]. Or somebody’s.

We are very alike in temperament, she and I –...

CM

There you go: there’s a link to the latest site behind the image that tells how we’re going with people signing up to read my rubbish …[grin]

Are you all improving your Latin numerals, btw? WOT? – NO?Sighh … why do I bother, I ask myself. Not.

This is another French blog, and it’s about weight loss. I have every faith in the fact that the French would do this VASTLY more interestingly than anyone else; but I’m not quite sure why she’s following me … ;-)

A healing wind

international

My blogging reach from Sydney

I’ve had a lovely morning so far: I’ve exchanged single comments with several of my blogging friends, several comments with some more, and had lengthy exchanges with a couple of others.

For someone like me, absolutely alone through the death of her partner (family interstate and friends overseas), blogging has come into my life like a gale – one of those that springs up after a lengthy period of terrible humidity that’s reached the point where it’s actually rain; s...

The not movie-goer

You may have already worked out that my appreciation of the smartphone, etc., technology more or less matches in reverse my only slightly advancedyears, yes?

So you won’t be astounded to learn that I like to sit in an armchair and watch my lovely Bravia screen – I hasten to add it’s the smallest one … umm … 38? – would that be right? Do you measure ‘em diagonally? I’ll charge off into the loungeroom and do it. Don’t go away, and that’s an order …!

Just as well you waited: I would’ve been re...

Temporary hiatus

Hello my little loves!

This is a to-be-deleted post [*] to inform you all that I’m taking the site down this-afternoon (yes, it is Friday arvo down here – no matter how fast you run you are NEVER going to catch up with me!) while I ponder Stuff.

Pondering, for me, involves long periods of nothing happening at all. But as any one of those may follow hard upon the heels of my having just tried out some CSS code that didn’t work, or changed a font size and mistyped the number of px, you can see th...

What goes around comes around Downunder

I’d already recently used the And now for something entirely different … heading, dammit! – and on so lightweight a topic, too! :-\ So although this post most definitely slots into that category (yes, I do consider it a category), I had to come up with another heading at least somewhat relevant to link to the following …

One of the blogs I follow is that of Julie Green Art, another Aussie, and in my own State of New South Wales, who’s into amazing local wildlife photography, with total success...

The donjon of Le Château du Grand Pressigny

The donjon of Le Château du Grand Pressigny

You really have to be there to comprehend the might and majesty of these donjons – to say they must have been impressive is grossly understating the case.

We were exploring la Touraine because of my passionate interest in Fulk Nerra, who might be described as the instigator (!) of the Plantagenets; and although Le Grand Pressigny was not one of his amazing castles, it was sti...
