Mina Lobo & The (Not So Dark) Romance of the King and Queen of the Underworld

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.

I'm so very excited to have Mina Lobo visiting today. Mina is awesome and brilliant and all the things, and she has a book coming (That Fatal Kissout later this year that everyone needs to read. She's so fantastic even, that when she offered to travel to the underworld instead of sending me, and...you know what? She explains it much better than I can, so I'm going to turn this post over to Mina.
I felt a bit silly approaching Hades and Persephone, King and Queen of the Greek Underworld, with a request for an interview. For one thing, I’ve known them for well over a decade, and what I didn’t already know about this dashing duo didn’t seem worth knowing. Too, they’re an extremely important and busy pair, who jealously guard their limited time together. Hades, you see, is obliged to part with Persephone for six months out of every twelve, due to the infamous deal brokered by his brother, Zeus, so that her mother can have an equal share of the goddess’ company.
But the generous Allyson Lindt offered this wonderful opportunity for me to promote my upcoming novel, That Fatal Kiss, which recounts the turbulent tides of the couple’s courtship. So I asked them if they’d entertain a few questions. After much grumbling on Hades’ part, and only a few pretty exhortations on Persephone’s, my petition was granted.
At the appointed hour, I was whisked away to a grand courtyard, with four equal quadrates overflowing with olive trees, flowering bushes, and aromatic herbs. At its center, a fire pit blazed merrily, making me wish I’d had the foresight to bring marshmallows. The Lord and Lady sat upon a stone bench and, after we’d exchanged greetings, I looked about for some similar accommodation. Noting my glances, Hades waved his hand and a bronze bench appeared beside me. A bit wobbly from being so suddenly transported, I sank into it gratefully, though I did stiffen when the goddess said, “Oh, not that one, Hades. Why, if she gets stuck—”
“Now, now,” Hades forestalled her, putting an arm around Persephone while taking her hand in his free one. “We mustn’t give away all our secrets.”
Persephone rolled her eyes, then turned a welcoming expression to me. “Why don’t you get started with the interview, Mina dear?”
Her beauty would’ve blinded me if not for the warmth emanating from it. With golden brown curls tumbling about her shoulders and liquid amber eyes in which anyone would willingly drown, it wasn’t difficult to discern what had driven Hades to kidnap his bride. My eyes flickered to the Lord of the Dead, and the contrast between her shining light and his all-encompassing darkness struck me. Yet, his rugged features softened as he gazed down at Persephone’s profile, and when he turned his dark, almond-shaped eyes my way, I caught the tenderness for her which he could not always conceal.
Evidently irritated by being caught adoring his wife, Hades’ face grew rigid and he said, “Yes, be about your business, mortal, that we may soon return to ours.”
I flipped open my notebook while clicking my ballpoint into readiness. “As I mentioned during our earlier chat via Enchanted Viewing Mirror, I’ve only five questions for you, which oughtn’t take up too much of your time. Number one: what are your favorite childhood memories?”
At the goddess’ look of dismay and the god’s arched brow, I belatedly remembered that Hades, and almost all of his siblings, had been gobbled up by their father, Cronus, former King of the Gods, at birth. This he did to prevent a sort of divine coup though, as any ancient Greek would tell you, you can’t change the course of your destiny. (Just ask Oedipus.)
“All I recall of my childhood is that it was dark,” Hades finally said. “And cramped.”
My favorite memory,” Persephone chimed in, “is of tormenting my sister Artemis.”
Hades’ grin transformed him as he regarded her. “You became rather an expert at provoking the girl, didn’t you?”
“It wasn’t a difficult task to master.”
“Next question,” I said. “Family first, or friends?”
Hades promptly said, “Persephone, first and only. Everyone else can go to—”
“Aren’t you sweet?” Persephone interjected, emphasizing each word with a firm pat to his hand. To me, she said, “I will echo his sentiment.”
“I’m gratified to know you put me before all others.”
“Not at all,” she said. “To echo you, I must put myself first and only, exactly as you said.”
The god’s nostrils flared at her impish wink but he contented himself with a simple, “Minx.”
“Third question,” I cut in. “What’s your least favorite job or duty?”
At that, Persephone seemed to deflate. “Well, I haven’t had to do this just yet, but as queen here, it is my duty to…to punish, should a mortal justly invoke me to do so.”
“They tend to call upon me for that,” Hades pointed out.
“For which I thank the Fates daily,” Persephone said. “I don’t relish visiting vengeance upon anyone, whether deserved or not.”
“I find it rather rewarding to mete out justice,” Hades said. “You might say it’s an acquired taste.”
“You’ll forgive me if I never acquire it.”
As a goddess of healing and renewal, Persephone’s newer role as redresser of wrongs must prove challenging for her. Seeing the somber cast of her face, I tried to lighten the mood. “What’s your favorite dessert?”
The goddess did brighten at that, saying to her husband, “And don’t say my name or you’ll make the woman blush herself into a stupor.”
“I was going to say I enjoy those pomegranate custard tarts you make, though of course,” and here, Hades unleashed an impressively wolfish leer upon her, “you are a far tastier treat.”
“Naturally you enjoy my custard tarts,” Persephone replied with perfect composure. “At your advanced age, they’re about the only things you can manage to chew through with any success.”
I mentally gasped at this sharp dig regarding the disparity in their ages. But when the virile (and unmistakably potent) god leaned down to say into her ear, “When our guest departs, I’ll be glad to remind you of all that I can chew through at my advanced age,” I understood that this was one of their little games. Still, I shuddered at the look of intent in Hades’ eyes—Persephone was a brave gal indeed to tease him so.
“Last question” I said, grimacing at the way I’d squeaked. “If you could have any one thing in the entire world, what would it be?”
And that’s when Persephone redeemed herself, for she looked up at Hades and, with a smile that proclaimed the fulfillment of her every secret wish, said, “I already have him.”
Tears prickled my eyes, whether of envy or longing, I couldn’t be sure. I lowered my gaze to blink back the moisture and, when I looked up, found myself at Bryant Park, in New York City.
Understanding that the interview was at an abrupt end, I made my way to Grand Central Terminal, so I could commute back to the ‘burbs. As I crossed Fifth Avenue, the ground swayed alarmingly beneath my feet. I scurried to the curb and heard a guy ask his friend, “Dude, was that an earthquake just now?”
No, Dude, I thought to myself with a smile. That was a god and his goddess, rocking one another’s worlds.*             *             *

Recipe: Lacy's Pear and Cardamom Pie (From Vanessa North)

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres. When Vanessa told me her heroine in Ripped Awake not only owned a diner, but made a wicked famous pear and cardamon pie, I knew I had to have the recipe...And read the short story.

She shared with me, and both are definitely worth it. But I can't give you too much good stuff at once ;) So today you get the recipe (it's a gorgeous spring Sunday here, perfect for baking something like this), and tomorrow you can pick up the Under a Moonlit Night short story collection that contains Ripped Awake and shorts by three other authors as talented (but maybe not as amazing a baker) as Vanessa.

And since Lacy is here to share her famous pie recipe, I'm going to leave the next few paragraphs up to her.

One of the advantages of being the owner of Lacey’s Place is getting to try out all kinds of new pie recipes. You see, we’re famous for our pies, many of which are heirloom recipes left to me by my Gran, but sometimes customers want to try something new, and as the proprietor, I’d kinda prefer they not seek their something new someplace else. So, we try new things.

When Rip woke from hibernation, he had a lot of free time on his hands, so I had him help in the kitchen. It turns out he has an uncanny knack for pairing unexpected flavors--flavors he had never even heard of in 1911. This recipe he came up with was so popular, we added it to the regular menu. It tastes fantastic with vanilla ice cream and a cup of coffee.

A note on crusts: pie crust is kind of a personal thing. Some folks like an all butter crust, some prefer one with lard or shortening. Use your favorite pie crust recipe, or even buy pre-made crusts at the store. I won’t judge.

Pear and Cardamom Pie

Ingredients:
4 large pears, cored, peeled, and cut into cubes½ cup sugar1 tablespoon flour1 teaspoon cinnamon½ teaspoon ground cardamom1 teaspoon vanilla extracttwo pie crusts
Method:
Preheat the oven to 425 degreesPrepare the pie pan by rolling out the bottom crust, putting it in the pan and trimming to fitIn a large bowl, mix the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cardamomStir in the pears and vanilla(If you like a tarter pie, you can add a splash of lemon juice also, otherwise this is a very sweet pie)
place the pear mixture in the crust, then cover with the top crust. Fold the edges of the top crust under the edges of the bottom crust and press together, then flute the crust.bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes only, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and cook 30 minutes more. If the crust edges start to burn, cover them with aluminum foil.

Want to know more about Lacey and Rip?
Four authors. Four short stories. Four explosive reads filled with hot alpha males and the women, or men, who love them. From family secrets and mysterious strangers to passion unleashed these hot, sexy couples struggle to overcome the odds and find love everlasting! This short story collection will become a treasured addition to your romance library.

And just who is this brilliant mind, Vanesssa North, who came up with this great short, and the snacks to go with it?
Vanessa North was born in New England but moved to the South as a teenager, where she learned to appreciate biscuits and gravy, bluegrass, and that most welcome of greetings: “Hey y’all!” She has a degree in Mass Communication but has long since abandoned journalism in favor of writing romance. Instead of telling the news, V would rather tell stories.

Vanessa has a voracious appetite for books and loves all kinds. She writes obsessively: every day brings new ideas and stories to tell. When she’s not buried in a book—hers or someone else’s—you can find her taking thousands of photographs of the people she loves.

She lives in Northwest Georgia with her handsome husband, not-quite-civilized twin boy-children, and a very, very large dog.

Getting to Know Tyrean Martinson

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.

Today I have the talented and witty Tyrean Martinson visiting. She's written a fantastic YA Fantasy, she's great fun to get to know, and she's been a good sport about answering my silly questions. So, Tyrean, tell us about yourself (five question style).

What's your ideal writing environment?

My idea writing environment includes a window view, a cup of tea, a notepad or journal, a book or two on the craft of writing, and my laptop. I like it quiet, but not too quiet. I often write at our dining room table - which has a great window view, or in a dance studio lobby, or in a coffee shop. Last year, I wrote an entire novel in the lobby of a Ballet studio while my daughters were in class three days a week. The music drifting through the closed door, and the quietness of the space, with a few conversations with other moms, was perfect. If I'm completely alone, I have a tough time writing. If there's music, I like that background in a coffee shop or dance studio lobby kind of music - not necessarily classical or any one type, but at that background level. Any louder than that, and I'll start tapping my feet or singing to the lyrics and forget about writing.

That does sound ideal. I can almost lose myself just in those descriptions. Well, in ideal writing environment needs the right temperature too, so Spring or Fall?

Definitely spring, especially May, this time, right now when the sun is out in the Northwest and the flowers are blooming, with a little breeze rustling the branches of the trees.

Two of my favorite things, spring and the northwest. It's so beautiful out there.

Speaking of fantastic scenery and surroundings and all-around winningness, what's the biggest thing you've ever won?

In the last few years, I've won a handful of awesome prizes from different bloggers. The biggest was probably a gift card and a free book from Jamie Ayres, but I've also received two awesome books from Cherie Reich, and A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan from Carol Riggs when she was cleaning her bookshelves. The blog world is an awesome place for prizes! :)

Books! You lucky girl - books are always awesome prizes :-D So making friends in the blogsphere aside, what's the craziest thing you've ever done?

Well, when I was in high school, I fire-walked at a wild, unofficial senior party. This was kind of a redneck party, so fire-walking meant walking over a burning wood platform on top of a bonfire. Dangerous and crazy? Yes. Will I ever do it again? No way.

As an adult, the craziest thing I've ever done was snorkeling with Kona Manta Rays at night in Hawaii. It was awesome, and I would definitely do it again (at least with guides and stuff like last time).

The firewalk sounds a bit terrifying, but the scuba-diving sounds amazing. Okay, last one and then I'll let you get on with your day. What question do you always wish someone would ask in an interview and never does?

What do you think the best invention is that we use today?
Actually, I don't know what question I wish someone would ask, that one just popped into my head. :)

Ha! Now I have to ask you that next time you stop by. And thanks so very much for visiting today. Tyrean's got some pretty great stories woven into her answers above, what else would you like to know about her?

So what's Champion in the Darkness Essentials about?
Clara’s ready to become a master swordswoman. When she goes to meet with longtime mentor Dantor, Clara is told she's destined to become the Champion, a fabled hero who arises in a time of need. Confused by this claim, Clara isn't sure she's ready to be a Champion.

Whether Clara is ready or not, the evil Kalidess has wormed her way into Septily's court.

Clara is aided by another mentor, Stelia, whose knowledge of their enemy is both a bane and a blessing. As evil threatens their land, Clara and Stelia must find the strength to overcome the darkness.

Champion in the Darkness is YA Christian Fantasy, and is the first book in the Champion Trilogy.

Sounds incredible, right? So go check it out
on Amazon.com

And when you're done checking out her book, go visit Tyrean all over the interwebs!

And just who is this brilliant author, Tyrean Martinson?
Tyrean Martinson lives and writes in the Pacific Northwest, encouraged by her multi-talented husband and daughters. She likes to write, read, teach, ski, bicycle, and walk.

Using her degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English, Tyrean homeschools her two daughters and teaches writing and literature classes at Harbor Christian Homeschool Co-operative.

Tyrean has been published in e-zines like Every Day Poets, Every Day Fiction and Mindflights, and a few print anthologies like Overcoming Adversity, The Best of Every Day Poets and Sunday Snaps: The Stories. Champion in the Darkness is her first book, but she plans to write many more.

Cover Reveal: No Glass Between Them by Eva Lefoy

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.
Eva Lefoy and I had so much fun talking about Sweet Cravings, that when she found out I had an open slot today, she offered up something fantastic - the very first peek of her upcoming book No Glass Between Them. You get to read about it here first, and this story is going to be *HOT*.

How should I put this? Hmm...Sexy Stripper + Sturdy Accountant = Two women sharing some incredibly steamy moments. No Glass Between Them will be available soon (Eva tells me a week or so, WOOT!)

But, not only do I have the cover and the scoop before anyone else, I also have an excerpt to whet your palate. (Fair warning, this is one heck of a steamy snippet)

The lights dimmed and the strobe lights came on. Contessa’s slow sultry music started.

Alyce stepped up to the glass to watch her entrance. As usual, Contessa hugged the doorway, raising a leg and letting the fabric fall away. Tonight, she pushed it away with a hand, showing off a creamy white thigh.

Contessa’s skin was unblemished. Unimaginably beautiful. The sight never failed to make Alyce’s mouth water for a taste.

The woman did a slinky walk to the stripper bar, wrapped a hand around it, and did a slow spin. As she bent her knees her head fell back and she pushed her breasts out in offering.

Alyce stepped closer to the window, her breath fogging it already. Paper towels. Shit. She dug in the bag and brought one out, cursing herself for missing even a second of the show. She wiped off the glass and stood mesmerized, as Contessa pressed her back to the bar, arched it, and swept her hands up and down her torso.

She willed those hands to linger, or to open the thin flowery silk robe and let loose her full beauty. But Contessa was a real tease tonight, taking her time warming up the crowd.

“She doesn't need to warm up me,” she snorted, wiping off the glass again.

The woman slipped a hand between her thighs, making as if she were petting herself. A deafening pounding started in the stalls. The men always did that, they were such an impatient lot. They didn’t know how to wait, how to savor. Alyce rolled her eyes at the bunch of them. Louts.

The pounding continued as Contessa opened her legs, held onto the bar and squatted, showing off a bright red thong. Alyce would bet she wore no matching bra from the way her breasts swayed under the fabric. Desire pierced her gut, and she pressed herself against the one-way-glass not caring when it had last been cleaned. All she wanted was to be closer to the most gorgeous woman she’d ever laid eyes on.

Eva Lafoy, Inspiration, and Justin Timberlake

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.
This Just In! Eva is giving a copy of Sweet Cravings to one lucky commenter, and I can tell you, that's quite a treat! Make sure to leave your email address when you comment to be entered.

Today I'm hosting the awesomely fun writer of some scorching hot romance, Eva Lefoy. And she's given me something new to tempt and tantalize you all with. Her novel, Sweet Cravings was inspired by music, and she's here to talk about it. I love stories about inspiration, and music, so take it away, Eva!

It’s Justin Timberlake’s fault I wrote a book about pastry!

Well, sort of.

I mean, it’s really the song’s fault, if you want to know the truth. Or, to back up a little further, it’s all Timbaland’s fault. Yep. No, I don’t normally listen to rap, and I only know of Justin Timberlake via the social media and news about who he’s dating. I’ve never purchased an album made by either of them. What happened though is I heard a song.

Back in the days of yore – before ABC cancelled my favorite soap opera, One Life to Live (that was a sad, sad day!) – I used to work out at the gym. And while I was there, I sometimes heard this song on the local radio:

The Way I Are, by Timbaland with Keri Hilson, D.O.E. and Sebastian
http://youtu.be/U5rLz5AZBIA

Now, I had no idea who these people were, but the tune was catchy and I found myself listening to it on YouTube over and over again. Why not? I know, I know, I’m getting to the pastry…

So then I figured, if I liked that song, maybe I’d like another of Timabland’s songs. I searched around on YouTube and after listening to a few duds (IMO!), I found this one:

Carry Out by Timabland, with Justin Timberlake
http://youtu.be/NRdHsuuXxfk

Now, again, I don’t listen to rap, but the tune is catchy –and look at those pastries! No, I’m not talking about the half-naked girls! What I’m really getting at and what the artists are playing up with this video is the relationship between food and sex. It’s pretty evident in this video, if you see what I mean. Ahem.

Anyway, soon after viewing this my devilish brain went to work and came up with a sexy pastry chef and a girl with a sweet craving that needed to be satisfied. Put the two of them together, and viola! You have Sweet Cravings, my first book released from Decadent Publishing.

Now that you know how it all happened, aren’t you kind of hungry?

I am!

That definitely gave me a craving for something sweet ;-) Want to know more about Sweet Cravings?:
Riding the waves of a sugar high, Violet Cunningham seduces the town’s newest pastry chef, slathering him with whipped cream in his secret kitchen. But all that is made of sugar melts, and her brazenness vanishes along with it, leaving her alone once again with her insecurities. Deciding to avoid temptation, she’s mortified when her boss sends her back to sexy chef Max’s kitchen to ask him to cater a company dinner.

After he turns the tables and seduces her, Max disappears the next morning. Violet blames herself but is it true or her old fears talking? When stray pastries show up at work, there’s only one man that could be responsible… and this time she refuses be distracted by creamy temptation. Well… maybe just a little…

If that makes you hungry for more of a taste, you can find Sweet Cravings here:

Elle Rush's Bear & Manon from the Beneath a Spring Moon Short Story Collection

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.
Today I have the privilege of introducing you to the kind and talented Elle Rush, one of four authors of Liquid Silver Books short story collection, Beneath a Spring Moon. When Elle told me her shifters in Bear With Me were a little different from others, I knew I had to get to know them. And I wasn't disappointed. Bear and Manon were a blast to talk to, and I'm going to let them run the show for the next few minutes ^_^

Bear: Hi, my name is Bartholomew Cain but everyone calls me Bear, even before I turned into one. I’m a senior computer trouble-shooter for North Star Cable. If your TV goes on the fritz, I’m the guy they call to fix the satellite.

Manon: Hello, I’m Manon Martin. I’m a Natural Resource Officer for the province of Manitoba. They used to call us park rangers. I met Bear when I was called in on a strange grizzly bear sighting. It was stranger than you’d think. Our story is “Bear With Me” in the “Beneath a Spring Moon” shifter collection from Liquid Silver Books.

Tell us about your favorite childhood memory. A game you played, a ritual you had with friends, or something else.

Bear: Blue Jays weekend, definitely. Every year since the first grade, my parents would find a weekend over summer holidays when the Jays had back-to-back home games and we would go down to Toronto and it was baseball all weekend. Even once I went to university, I always made sure I could go with them.
Manon: So the baseball thing is genetic?
Bear: Yep. How about you?
Manon: Snow days. If the buses weren’t running, we’d get to stay home from school with my dad. I miss snow days.
Bear: Hey, we kind of met on a snow day.

Family first or friends?
Bear: Family. But if friends are good enough and they’ve been around long enough, they pretty much become family.
Manon: I’m stealing his answer. It’s a good one.

I'm hearing that a lot, Manon. Seems like a good thing to keep in mind. Tell me, what's your least favorite job?

Bear: Reloading computer software after somebody accidentally deletes program files.
Manon: I told you that the computer did that all by itself.
Bear: It’s not A.I. It doesn’t randomly delete bits of itself to save humanity.
Manon: First of all, Skynet IS TOO real. Secondly, it’s a computer. I never said it acted logically.
Bear: Do you know the definition of computer?
Manon: My least favourite chore is dusting. Enough said.

I think your least favorite job is real similar to mine, Bear. But I have to agree with Manon. Skynet is too real. So on a more pleasant note, what's your favorite dessert?
Bear: Baklava. Honey and pastry and honey and walnuts and spice.
Manon: You said honey twice.
Bear: It’s worth repeating. Your turn.
Manon: All of them.
Bear: She’s not kidding.
Manon: I’m really not. But if I only got to pick one thing, I’d pick cake.
Bear: What kind?
Manon: All of them.

If you could have any one thing (not cake) in the entire world, what would it be?

Bear: Pizza.
Manon: Pizza.
Bear: Really?
Manon: Of course, really. Who doesn’t love pizza? And if it were the only thing I’d ever eat again, I’d want something with a lot of variations.
Bear: You are entirely too logical.
Manon: There is even a candy pizza with a cookie crust so I’d still get my dessert.
Bear: Heaven forbid you don’t get your dessert.
Manon: Easy, there, honey bear, or you won’t get your dessert.
Bear: Shutting up now.
Manon: Thanks for letting us visit, Allyson!

Well I can't argue with that logic. Thanks to both of you for visiting, it was great fun! Anyone else have any questions for Bear and Manon?

Want to know what Bear With Me is about?
When Bartholomew “Bear” Cain set up camp in the Manitoba wilderness to get an unobstructed view of a meteor shower, he had no idea he was going be exposed to an alien element and merge with a grizzly bear. Learning to control the shift is hard enough, but when poachers steal his gear, Bear has to learn to survive.

Manon Martin, a conservation officer sent to look for a rogue grizzly, but obsessed with finding the missing man, discovers both when Bear saves her from a wild animal attack. Manon vows to keep him safe—not just from the returning poachers, or through the cold winter’s night, but into the future beyond, assuming they both survive.

Janeal Falor and the Characters of You Are Mine

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.
Today I have the most fantastic guest. I had the privilege reading this book before most of the rest of the world, and now today it's making its debut in the world. Janeal Falor has constructed a fantastic fantasy world, where powerful warlocks are the ruling authority, women have no more worth than livestock, and one girl with the drive to be independent throws the entire country into arrears.

And Janeal has let me interview her main characters, Serena and Zade.

The sidelong glances and secret smiles Serena and Zade share during the entire interview speak as much as their words.

So, you two, tell us about your favorite childhood memory. A game you played, a ritual you had with friends, or something else.
Serena gives a small smile: It's hard to think of good memories, but there was this one time when my sister Cynthia talked me into painting Father's horse pink.
Zade laughs: I never knew you had a mischievous streak. What did your father do?
Serena: He thought one of the warlocks one the council did it, which was the only thing that saved us from being punished. Though he did try to make us wash it, but it wouldn't come off. He had to ride his pink horse to his council meetings in front of all the other warlocks. I wish I could have seen their faces. What about you?
Zade: Nothing specific comes to mind. Just the general feeling I have of playing with my friends. Hiding my sister's toys and helping her find them. Dad taking me fishing. Mom making me sit with the ladies during tea and being polite while they loaded me with cookies.

I will have the image of that pink horse in my head for the rest of the week, *laughs*. It seems like family is a big part of both of your pasts, so this may be a silly question, but tell me family first or friends?
Serena: Family, except Father. My sisters are everything. He is nothing.
Zade gives Serena's hand a squeeze.: Family, without question. Though some friends have become family. *glances at Serena*
*Serena blushes.*

*aside* - didn't I tell you these two were adorable? *back to the interview* What's your least favorite task?
Zade: Paperwork. There needs to be a lot less paperwork. At the very least I need a job that doesn't require paperwork.
Serena: That's your least favorite task? I'd be happy to trade you for cooking, cleaning floors, scrubbing chamber pot—
Zade: Wo! Stop right there. Paperwork is just fine.

I'm going to have to agree that paperwork is a pretty vile thing unless housework is the alternative. How about a more pleasant thought? What's your favorite desert?
Serena and Zade exchange a look and give a little chuckle.
Zade: Anything with peaches. Serena even gives me hers.
Serena: Peaches are disgusting. Strawberries are by far the best.
Zade: And I'll happily make sure none of those disgusting peaches go to waste.

And I happen to know that there's more about peaches and strawberries in the book. *hint hint*. All right, last question and then I'll let the two of you get back to your sidelong glances. If you could have any one thing in the entire world, what would it be?
*Immediately both somber*
Serena: I'd make it so my sisters wouldn't have to go through everything I've gone through.
*Zade puts an arm around Serena.*
Serena: What would you have?
*Zade's cheeks pink*
Serena: What is it?
Zade: I think I'll skip this question for now.
Serena: But we'll come back to it later.
Zade: Yeah, I think we'll come back to it soon.

I think I've got a pretty good idea what Zade would wish for, but I also think it would be more fun for Serena to figure it out on her own. However, if you'd like a little hint, I just happen to have an excerpt below from You Are Mine

Excerpt
His hand reaches up and brushes my face. Flecks of gold are mixed with the green of his eyes. Suddenly, he scoops me into his arms and plops me on his lap. I yelp.

“Sorry, I guess I should have warned you first.”

After straightening my skirt with quivering fingers, I hold myself stiff. His nose nuzzles against the side of my neck. Warm lips brush my jaw and sweep along my cheek until they reach the corner of my mouth. My breath comes in shallow gasps. He smells lightly of citrus.

I don't move. His fingers tangle in my hair. His lips hover over mine. A nervous flutter grows in my chest. The creak of the door opening spurs him into action.

His lips touch mine. Flowing and sunny. They grow firmer. It feels so much better than I thought it could. His fingers run through my hair, the tendrils falling out of their confinement. Heat grows between us. He pulls me closer to him. Not only do I manage to refrain from fighting him, but I want to draw even closer.

“Ahem.” Phyllis.

He leans away, though still only inches from me. “Why are you interrupting?”

My face feels flushed. I try to slow my breathing.

“Sorry, Chancellor. I was told I was needed in here.”

He turns on her, face tight. “You are, but not now. Didn't you get my message?”

“What message?”

“My family also gifted Serena a servant. She'll need to be shown your duties when she gets here.”

“My duties, Master? Not hers?”

A grumble sounds from him, vibrating his chest. “No. You'll be working in the kitchen. We're grateful for you services so far, but with this new servant, you're needed elsewhere.”

“I see.”

“Then leave. I'm busy right now.”

And who is this brilliant debut YA novelist?
Janeal Falor lives in Utah where she’s finally managed to live in the same house for more than five years without moving. In her spare time she reads books like they’re nuts covered in caramel and chocolate, cooks whatever strikes her fancy, and enjoys the outdoors. Her husband and three children try to keep up with her overactive imagination. Usually they settle for having dinner on the table, even if she’s still going on about the voices in her head.

More Bits & Bytes Coming Soon!

I have such exciting news to share, and you can probably already guess at least vaguely what it is from my blog post title, but hopefully I can toss a little bit of a surprise in here to make reading this post worth your time ^_~

First of all, with Conflict of Interest being my debut novel, I had no idea what to expect. Everything I read everywhere didn't prepare me for the reality. (Okay, it did a little, but a lot of things were still a surprise. Also, for the entire month of June, my two best-writer-buddy CP's and I are doing a series of posts about three different journeys to publishing, and I'll probably talk more about that in those posts.)

But now it's been a week, it's been fantastic and fun and the support has been so incredible that I just have to do it again. Of course, I think other things compel me to do this again as well, but let's not complicate this with the psychology of an artist, let's give all the credit to release week instead.

Okay, enough babbling, here's my news ^_^

First off, and so very, very exciting (we celebrated all weekend), Bits & Bytes Book 2 Toeing the Line , has been contracted by Liquid Silver Books! A handful of you read this book in its first incarnation a year ago when it was called Leasing Love. It's been heavily overhauled since then, but Riley and Zane are still fun to their very core. Think friends with benefits, a brooding, former airman, and possibly a couple of silk scarves.

As soon as I have more info, like release dates, blurbs, cover, all that great stuff, I'll be sharing ^_^

And second, because I can't make this post too short, and only announcing one thing seems so...normal and sane. I'm super, extra excited to announce I'll be releasing a Bits & Bytes Book 0 (prequel, anyone?) because two of my favorite characters, Zach & Rae, are demanding I tell their story and it all begins before anything else. So Holding Things Close is coming in early July!

So, YAY!!! ^_^

PS Speaking of incredible support, I've been invited to appear on a number of blogs over the last week and it's been a ton of fun. But Mina Lobo has posted just about the most insightful, wonderful review ever of Conflict of Interest, and Mina absolutely rocks my socks, so go check out her blog, and give her some follower love.

Get to Know Lisa M. Owens, and If Only

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.
I'm delighted today to host the talented and passionate romance author Lisa M. Owens. Her novel If Only is about second chances, facing tough choices, and stepping into the unknown despite the risk. And because Lisa is a fantastic sport, she's let me interview her today. I also have to mention Lisa has worked closely with domestic violence victims, and part of why she writes what she does is to raise awareness. That's so incredible to me, so thank you for being that strong, Lisa.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Lisa. Because I know everyone is here to get to know you, let's dive right in. Describe your ideal writing environment?
Lisa: Sitting on a towel with my laptop cradled in my lap on a stretch of white, sandy beach, listening to the melodic sound of waves crashing along the shore. Feeling the warm, gritty sand beneath my toes and the warmth of the sun on my face. Of course, if the sun was shining, I would need the shade of a palm tree above me, the fronds blowing in the slight breeze. That would be my ideal working environment.

In reality, it's me sitting in a room all by myself, working. Sometimes with soft music humming from the speakers of my laptop.

That sounds so pleasant. I wouldn't mind getting some writing done like that myself. But reality...

Speaking of gorgeous weather, Spring or fall?

Lisa: Fall. I love it when the colored leaves begin in rain down from the trees; the crunching of those leaves beneath my feet. The smells of green grass, dry leaves and sunshine that permeate the air. Kids in their Halloween costumes, the joy on their faces; even buying school supplies.

I love the sound of that, and you've painted a vivid picture *daydreams of fall*

Total change of pace now, what’s the biggest thing you’ve ever won?

Lisa: The biggest thing I ever won? I don't know if you would really call this a win. While I was working on the Protective Order desk at the courthouse, I worked closely with Domestic Violence Intervention Services; helping people to fill out protective orders. One year, at one of their annual Candlelight Vigils, they presented me with a certificate for all of my hard work and my contributions to their organization. I still have that certificate and I am very proud of it. To me, that is the biggest and best thing that I have ever been presented with.

I now have two of those certificates but the first one I received is the one that I am most proud of.

That gives me chills. You definitely deserve to be proud of that, and thank you for being strong enough to do that kind of work.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Lisa: Craziest thing I have ever done? I am pleading the fifth on that one. Nothing illegal, just not anything I would want other people to know.

*laugh* Fair enough. They do say the internet is forever, so I can't blame you for that.

What question do you always wish someone would ask (you or someone else) in an interview, but no one ever does?

Lisa: If your book was made into a movie, what actors/actresses would play the parts?

Oh, that's a good one. I love seeing casting calls from authors, too. Hopefully we can have you back soon to answer that question, because now I'm curious.

How about you, readers? Any questions for Lisa?

And what's If Only about? So glad you asked
What would you do if you had the opportunity to go back and relive your greatest mistake?

Five years ago, Bree Sexton walked out on her fiancé and into the arms of a charming and handsome stranger. She has regretted her decision ever since. Instead of a fairy-tale marriage, her “prince” shattered her dreams and her spirit with physical violence and emotional cruelty she barely escaped.

She then mysteriously wakes up in bed with the fiancé she loved and left, the life she’d dreamed of now a reality, until her cruel ex-husband reappears to destroy her new life. But what is real, and what is make-believe? Is she really getting the chance she has always dreamed of? And when it is all said and done, will she finally end up with the man she has always regretted leaving? Or will she wake up to discover herself alone?

Sounds intense and incredible, right? So make sure you check out more about Lisa here:

Aside from the fact any hero named Scott must be sexy, I love this excerpt from If Only
Bree stood there for a minute, watching as he walked out of her life. She couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if she had married Scott instead of Bryan. How would her life have been different? Would she have had children by now? Would she and Scott still be together, after all this time? Those thoughts and more weighed heavily on her mind as she headed out of the bar. It had begun to snow, and she wrapped her coat even tighter around her slender frame. She looked around, but there was no one to be found. She couldn’t help herself; she stuck out her tongue, a childish impulse she couldn’t ignore, and then laughed out loud in spite of herself.

She looked both ways before attempting to cross the street. Not seeing any cars, she began to make her way across. Bree was walking cautiously when one of her high heels slipped on a patch of ice. She could feel herself falling, and her breathing quickened as she began to panic, wishing she had waited for her friends before venturing off on her own. One shoe flew off as she landed, her head striking the curb. A sharp pain racked through the back of her skull, causing her to cry out. The last thing she saw was Scott’s face swimming before her eyes, and then her world went black.

Bree awoke to a man nipping gently on her earlobe, his tongue stroking the delicate curves. His hot breath blew into her ear, sending shivers up and down her spine. She slowly opened her eyes as a man’s hand stroked her upper thigh, and she sighed happily.

Ooh, I must be dreaming. And it was such a delicious dream, too.

The man’s hand traveled up her thigh and then encircled her flat stomach. Out of the corner of her eyes, Bree could see a dark head pressing against her abdomen. Then she shivered as a tongue laved her belly button, going in and out erotically, making her feel as though her body was on fire. Bryan had never made her feel like this, and she hadn’t even looked yet to see who this stranger was! But she was only dreaming, so what difference did it make?

His hand continued traveling north, lovingly caressing her skin. He reached for her aching breasts, pressing her nipples roughly before he lowered his mouth to suckle them, first one, and then the other. Bree arched in anxious response to his touch. She longed to see his face, but she feared one look would make his magical touch disappear.

She ached all over, wanted his hands to caress her everywhere, and she longed to touch him. She opened her legs as he straddled her. His hair brushed her naked chest as he began kissing her. His tongue was driving her crazy with desire as he placed tender kisses along her neckline. He brushed her hair aside.

His morning stubble stung her delicate skin, but she hungered for more. Just one more touch, just one more taste, and she would awaken from this wonderful dream and find herself in bed, all alone.

“Oh, Bree, baby. What you do to me,” he whispered, his voice husky.

That voice jerked her back to the present. The voice had haunted her dreams for

years. The voice of the man she just couldn’t seem to get over.

“Scott,” she whispered.

The talented author, Lisa Owens
The writing bug bit Lisa M. Owens at an early age; she was writing short stories and poetry by the age of seven. At the age of eight, she entered a writing contest at her elementary school. About fifty books were written, but Lisa was one of the thirteen writers chosen who received a certificate and the chance to meet Oklahoma writer Sandy Miller.

A former victim of domestic violence herself, Lisa worked at the courthouse for over seven years. Almost three of those years she worked on the Marriage License/Protective Order desk. She helped women file protective orders and worked closely with the staff and counselors at DVIS.

Frustrated with books that merely gloss over the subject of domestic violence, Lisa wanted to write a book that told the entire story. Her dream is for her words to help give someone the courage to leave an abusive relationship.

She resides in Oklahoma and has two children. This is her first published novel, and she is currently working on the next novel of her If Only series.

Lisa enjoys hearing from her readers and can be reached at P.O. Box 9643, Tulsa, OK 74157-0643, or by e-mail, lisamowens@ymail.com. She can also be contacted on her website, www.lmowens.com.

Kelli Evans and the Characters of One Lucky Deal

During the entire month of May I'm hosting a reverse blog tour. Rather than send y'all to other people's blogs to read about me, which you already do if you're a regular here, I'm introducing you to some amazing and talented authors from all walks of life and genres.

I love interviewing characters. They follow different rules than us real-life people (not that fictional people aren't real too), so when Kelli Evans said I could talk to her characters from One Lucky Deal , I was super psyched. Kelli spins a sexy hot tale in every book, and I'm a contemporary junkie at my very core. And childhood friends turned more? *swoon*

So enough babbling, let's get to know Kelli's characters, Candace and Tad. Simple question to start, just to warm up our guests. Tell us about your favorite childhood memory.

Candace: I have two older sisters and they’re twins, so I’d have to say my favorite childhood memories were of them letting me into their world. I can’t do the twinspeak thing they do, communicate with them through one raised eyebrow, but the three of us are very close.
Tad: Well, I have to say I loved camp. One summer I met this slutty little camp girl-
Candace: (elbows Tad in the ribs) I was not slutty.
Tad: (grinning) Well, you were for me.
Candace: Ignore him. He’s deranged.

*laughing* deranged, a little obnoxious, and with you, Candace, a lot of fun. Since you mention your sisters tell me, family first or friends?
Tad: I don’t know how to answer that.
Candace: Why not?
Tad: Well, I guess because I consider you both.
Candace: Scratch that deranged remark. Sometimes he’s a real charmer.
Tad: What about you Candy? Family or Friends first?
Candace: Well, I’m in the same boat you are, Tad. I guess I consider you both too… That and our family are our friends and our friends are our family.
Tad: Friends, family – I guess it’s one in the same for the two of us.

Aww...A joker and a charmer. In that case I hate to turn this serious, but what's your least favorite chore?
Candace: Tad hates grocery shopping.
Tad: So does she. That’s why we never have anything but beer in the fridge.
Candace: It’s also why we’re such regulars at Lucky’s. That and that’s where our friends hang out.
Tad: Not just that but we hate doing the dishes about as much as we hate grocery shopping. So if we don’t grocery shop, there’s no food in the house, if there’s no food in the house there’s no dishes to do. Win-win.
Candace: I will say our dogs are better fed than we are.
Tad: (with a derisive snort) No kidding. I can’t say I’ve ever eaten a signed Cecil Fielder baseball for dinner.
Candace: C’mon man you’ve got to let that go.

A signed baseball? Ouch. That's got to be a good story. Painful, but good. I see a lot of take out in your futures. Speaking of, what's your favorite desert?
Tad: Candace really loves brownies.
Candace: (gives an embarrassed smile.) What can I say? It’s true. But what’s yours Tad? I don’t think even I know the answer to that. I’m pretty sure beer doesn’t count.
Tad: My favorite dessert is you.
Candace: (rolls her eyes) … so inappropriate.
Tad: (flashes a sexy half-smirk accompanied with a wink) What can I say? It’s true.

From sweet to scorching in no time flat. *fans self*. Keep in mind, you two, greeting the pizza guy in almost nothing technically isn't a tip.

Let's finish this interview on a thought-provoking note, if you two can stay serious for that long *wink*. If you could have any one thing in the entire world, what would it be?

Candace: Hmm…a puppy?
Tad: Good God Candace you’re killin’ me. No. No more pets. It’s bordering on animal hoarding as it is.
Candace: But-
Tad: No, no buts on this. I’m not budging.
Candace: Fine. But –
Tad: I said no buts.
Candace: Whatever. Like your answer is going to be any better than mine? Go ahead tell them how you want a replacement for the Cecil Fielder baseball Sara chewed on.
Tad: The damn dog did more than chew on it. She demolished it. She ate the whole thing. And no, that wasn’t what I was going to say.
Candace: Oh?
Tad: (leans in and whispers something in Candace’s ear)
Candace: (blushing) Oh.
Tad: (Stands up and begins dragging Candace away.) C’mon let’s get out of here.
Candace: (saying over her shoulder as she’s being led away.) Apparently he’s about to get the one thing he wants — to be alone with me.

I'm not sure how you'd keep track of a puppy, Candace, only because it sounds like Tad is a handful on his own. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, and we'll give you both your alone time.

But, dear readers, any questions for Kelli, Candace, or Tad? They're all great to talk to, so let the curiosities fly!

Curious as to how Candace and Tad got to be here today? Check out the blurb for One Lucky Deal (Whisper Hollow Book #3):
Candace Hilt works with stray and injured animals, takes care of five of her own loveable mutts, deals with meddling sisters, and can hold her own at a poker table full of rowdy men. Her heart is as big as all of Whisper Hollow but not quite big enough to fit a serious relationship into the mix. That was reaffirmed when she came face-to-face with the walking, talking reminder of that long-ago summer when one stupid guy ruined it for all the rest.

When Tad Dundee met Candace he’d been six feet of baseball-capped, country boy, down-home idiot and probably still is. He is the guy who broke Candace’s heart all those years ago because his feelings for her scared him then, and even now, as a grown man, doesn’t find her or relationships any less intimidating.

With the past tucked neatly behind them and neither of them looking for anything serious, they’d fallen into a very easy, comfortable friendship until their friends challenge them to a summer of commitment. Tad and Candace’s pride won’t let them turn it down. They are thrust into a fake relationship with each other that has them both battling against a sizzling hot attraction and that even hotter old flame. Will winning the bet mean losing everything all over again, or are they about to be dealt one lucky deal?

A little more about Kelli Evans:
Kelli Evans is a bright new voice in the contemporary romance world. She sets most of her books in Michigan where she lives with her husband, their cat, and their pony-sized dog. When Kelli’s not writing she can be found spending time with her sitcom-esque family, boating, fishing, crafting, or enjoying her first love – a good book.

And as a little teaser, to titillate (and fair warning, this one is titillating, spicy, and lots of fun ;-) and motivate you, an excerpt:
Bimonthly poker night was a time-honored tradition. These guys had been playing for years, and just recently added Shea, Reed’s daughter’s boyfriend, and Candace to the group. Candace was added mostly because she was Tad’s roommate, and she brought the poker table to the equation. It was used as Tad and Candace’s dining room table every other night of the week.

“Where’s my shirt?” Tad walked out of the bathroom with nothing on but that towel slung low and wrapped around his hips.

“Why did you wait so long to shower?” Candace pushed the sleeves up on her lightweight brown shirt. “The guys are going to be here soon and you’re going to be walking around naked looking for your clothes.”

“It was that or sit around all night smelling like a gym bag.” Tad lifted a cushion on the couch and peered under it.

“You’re going to do that anyway.” Tad looked up at her and made a face. She smiled sweetly back at him. Taking pity on him when he went to the freezer and peered inside it, Candace rolled her eyes and sighed. “You are the worst searcher on the planet. What would your shirt be doing in the freezer?”

Candace came up beside him and leaned against the counter. The freezer was billowing out visibly cold air, and when Candace’s gaze slipped to Tad’s hardening tan nipples she reached out and closed the door. “What shirt are we looking for?” She blinked.

“You know the one.” He motioned to his naked chest. “The one—you know, it’s—” Then something must have caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. “That damn dog.”

Candace didn’t know what had happened, but she winced and slowly turned around just in time to catch Tad pulling out his black Ramones T-shirt from beneath Sara. Sara reached out with her teeth and grabbed ahold of it. She was obviously not ready to give it back. Tad tugged on the shirt and Sara tugged back, thinking it was a game.

Zeke, apparently not wanting to be left out on any of the fun, pulled on Tad’s towel. Since Tad hadn’t secured it very well, off it came in one easy tug.

“Shit,” Tad cursed, dropping the shirt and reaching around to try to grab back the towel, but it was too late.

“Hey,” Joe, Reed, and Shea called from the doorway as they entered the house. “Joe brought the beer. I picked up a pizza, and Shea’s packing Red Vines.”

“Holy hell.” Joe laughed.

“What’s going on in here?” Reed chuckled “Did we interrupt something?”

“Um…” Candace was trying not to stare but she hadn’t seen him naked in close to ten years, and damn, the years had done him some good. He was nothing but rock-solid, hard, sinewy muscle and … impressive.

“Dude!” Shea held a hand in front of his face, obviously trying to block Tad’s privates from his line of vision.

Candace quickly reached forward and grabbed her fuzzy purple pillow from the couch and tossed it at Tad. He caught it and used it to hide his man business as he backed up toward his room. “I’ll be out in a minute. And anything on four legs better be in hiding.”

Once he was gone, Candace took it upon herself to tell the guys in vivid detail about the double tug-of-war that left Tad bare-ass naked in front of everyone. They all were laughing until tears were spilling out of their eyes. When Tad emerged he was straight-faced. Obviously he didn’t find the incident nearly as funny as the rest of them did.

“All right, if we’re done laughing, can we play some poker? Please?” Tad took his seat next to Candace.

“Hey, don’t get hard, Peter, we’re just playing with you.” Joe smirked.

Tad shook his head, rolled his eyes, and just focused on dealing out the cards. “Hey, cut him some slack. It is a little drafty in here,” Reed joked. Candace knew it must have been a joke because there had been nothing small about it. She shook the thought from her head and tossed in her ante.

When the games were over they usually sat around and drank another beer and bullshitted for awhile, but Tad was still acting ornery. “All right, boys, see you tomorrow.”

“Kicking us out?” Joe laughed, getting up and pushing in his chair, nearly stepping on a snoozing Charlie in the process.

Rudy was scratching at the back door, wanting to go out to sniff and pee around. Candace got up and whistled, sending all five of them out for the last time that night.

“No, they just want to get back to doing what they were doing when we walked in.” Shea laughed and shoved the end of a licorice in his mouth.

“Shut up,” Tad said, but good-naturedly.

“What? You don’t think she’s hot?” Shea asked, and Candace’s ears perked up. She might not have necessarily found Tad all that attractive, nor did she particularly want him to find her attractive, but … she did want to be found attractive … even if it was by Tad.

“She’s all right,” Tad answered, and Candace decided she’d take that as a compliment, even though it could easily have just been Tad’s nice way of saying “hell, no.”

“Well, since she got a glimpse at you all naked, if the sight of her doesn’t make you want to puke up beer and pizza, I’d say turnabout is fair game,” Shea said just before he, Reed, and Joe all walked out the door. Candace had begun collecting empties and rinsing them out in the sink.

“Did you hear that?” Tad asked as he put the pizza box in their recycle container hidden underneath the sink.

“Yeah.” Candace laughed, expecting Tad to laugh too. She turned to find him looking at her pretty seriously.

“I think he’s on to something.” Tad leaned back against the kitchen counter.

“What?” She turned the water off in the sink.

“It’s only fair. You’ve seen mine; let me see yours.” He nodded at her and she searched his face, looking for a hint as to if he was kidding. She couldn’t tell, but she had that spine-tingling feeling convincing her that he wasn’t.
