New York State of Mine
Never faced an audience at BookCourt: I’ve always been the girl in the audience.
Um, guys?
My favorite Brooklyn bookstore just invited me to sit with the big kids.
And read to the audience.
Seeing your face on Nov. 20th at BookCourt means I can pretend I’m talking to the Internet without pants.
Which kinda makes for a steady voice and all of the eye contact.
Anyone up for being a front-row-joe?

Wine-shaped gush session with the lovely + talented L.A. author Claire Bidwell. She makes time to write book-jacket blurbs for indie authors like me + personally replies to all her fan mail. Oh, and THIS is who Jennifer Lawrence will be playing when she wins her Oscar in 2015 for “Rules of Inheritance.”

From Sunday Mourning...to Sunday Times
Four years ago, my name appeared in The New York Times: on the 13th line of my husband’s obituary.
Today it appears above the Modern Love essay I wrote about the journey from there…to here.
Marked the moment by gushing with Laurie
, who stayed at my girlfriend’s in Atlanta last night. Mom and I bought Sunday editions from every Starbucks in a 10-mile radius. Over breakfast, my Dad might have admitted to being proud of me.
The only person who could make this moment sweeter is the same person whose absence made this moment possible.

Hometown readings mean actually dropping sanctioned f-bombs in front of former professors, bosses, and your parents (see Mom, above right).
When they’re held the same weekend as your high school reunion, people with whom you ditched class are actually in attendance.
When they’re preceded by a write-up in the local paper, it means teachers who legit couldn’t stand you 20 years ago make a cheerful appearance.
So you seize the opportunity to apologize for being an grateful brat…but they commend you for bestowing the yearbook with its existing name.
Which kinda makes you wanna do hometown readings in every city you’ve lived in.
Because, selective memory.
