As I’m finding my happy ending these years later, I still have my moments and it’s reassuring to know that someone I admire does too. Thanks to you, your book and your journey, I feel like you’re hugging me wherever I am. Exactly when it is needed.”

Goodbye/Hello
A friend’s farewell party was held tonight at a midtown hotel bar.
In the elevator to the lounge, I realize it’s the same midtown hotel where I was staying when I met Alberto.
Last time I was here was the morning after we met.
Last time I was here, I was rush-packing so I could return to his apartment and continue our 72-hour first date.
I’m still processing this memory when I walk into the lounge, though I’ve arranged my face as if I’m completely present.
I stay long enough to toast the man who’s trading New York for Florida but leave before the bottle service goes to everyone’s heads.
Crossing through the lobby, I ditch my I’m-completely-present face.
For 10 messy seconds, I am the girl who crossed this lobby in May 2005.
I am the girl wearing last night’s cocktail dress at 11am.
I am the morning-after-my-first-spanking-from-a-stranger.
I am the girl who doesn’t know she’ll marry this stranger in four months.
As the lobby doors open, memory cedes to reality.
In my not-cocktail dress, I head toward the subway.
And encounter a sign that keeps me in goosies all the way to the same apartment where I rushed eight years ago.

Meet You on Long Island
Thanks to fellow Tumblr, Lauren, I’ll be speaking and reading at a Smithtown library mid-August.
If we haven’t met at a book club or Tweet up—or even if we have—let’s make some Long Island-shaped memories. Also, drinks somewhere afterward, because summer.
Event is free but space is limited, so R.S.V.P. by Aug. 15 to 631.265.3994 x.123.

You love her blog, you’ve read her book*, now...

You love her blog, you’ve read her book*, now come meet Tré Miller Rodríguez in person at a reading and discussion of her memoir Splitting the Difference. It’s a great chance to meet fellow NYC tumblrs, while supporting a writer who started telling her story right here in our online community.
Please shoot me an email to RSVP so I can get an idea of the guest count in advance. I’m really excited to be hosting this event and look forward to meeting everyone!
*If for some reason this is not true, GET IT NOW!
Hotels are where I wrote 50% of this memoir, so I’m pretty giddy about Stacey hosting a Tumblr book club at the Lucerne. Bring yourself (and a friend) and I’ll read you stories over a glass or two. Books will be signed (and sold) and IRL memories will be made.

Splitting the Difference IN REAL LIFE.

Splitting the Difference IN REAL LIFE.
I love Tumblr. It provides endless hours of entertainment at work and I’ve made a great group of IRL friends (holla @ my tfam!). But more than anything, it keeps me in the know about the Best Life Things - like Doctor Who or microagression education or Queen B gifs…or White Elephant in the Room.
Here Tré shares the story of life after her husband’s sudden death and it. is. heartbreaking. It’s something I would never want to experience but the elegance and open vulnerability she shares while grieving is what I love most about her.
Tré, I am SO GLAD we finally met last night! It was well worth the three hour drive and dragging out my girlfriends to support you. Thank you for making the trip out and sharing your heart with us! All the heart shapes for you
P.S. YOU’RE THE PRETTY ONE!
Moments like this one with you, girl, re-enforce my belief that the Internet is made of friends I need to meet IRL. Thanks for bringing your girls, braving the 405 and most of all…cheering me toward that stage these last two years. Giant X and Giant O.
