My story just became an animated New York Times...

My story just became an animated New York Times video.

Specifically, a Modern freaking Love video.

It’s a 2-minute collage with my and Laurie’s voices and it spills off the screen and makes a pool on your desk.

Oh, wait.

My face is to blame for the tearwater pool.

Thank you New York Times and NPR for floodgating the feels.

"Thank you for writing a book about something so painful to live through, let alone write about...."

“Thank you for writing a book about something so painful to live through, let alone write about. I’ve had issues with grief but my usual method is just to bury it. ‘Splitting the Difference’ is helping me overcome that, especially the part about letting go of the guilt. This story is not ‘chick lit’…it’s ‘human lit.’”

Let's Get Awkward

image

Officially landed a position as a columnist for the soon-to-launch ModernLoss.com, a kitsch-free, religion-free resource for all things grief and loss. And the site founders are just as determined to talk about the awkward stuff as I am.

(Still can’t believe I’ll get paid to write in my own voice, but that’s what they tell me.)

My first column is about how we deal with the possessions left behind by the deceased. How long did you wait before you cleared out drawers and closets? Did you store, sell or give to charity—a combo of these? Did you ask a BFF to help or just open a box of wine? If the responsibility of this task fell to you & you’re open to inclusion in the article—first name & city—I’d especially love to hear from Tumblrs under 40. Feel free to reply via notes or message me.

Good grief,

Tré

Tumblrs + Tumbleweeds

image

You guys ever hear of Palmdale, California?

Sixty miles north of L.A., it looks like the set of “Breaking Bad,” but with more 7-Elevens and extra mufflers.

It’s also where I went to high school and where my brother is buried.

And it’s where the local college is hosting a coffee-shop reading for me and a 30ish female professor on October 12.

If you missed my L.A. launch or haven’t been to the edge of the Mojave Desert lately, come the hell up, Tumblr. We’ll get caffeinated amid the tumbleweeds and hit a nearby roadhouse.

It’ll be just like high school.

But legal.

Southern Hospitality in Charleston?

image

Fourth week of October will find me visiting Laurie in South Carolina.

With a wing and a pineapple-shaped prayer, it could find me reading from “Heart-Shaped Memoir” at Blue Bicycle Books downtown.

If you’d attend an evening reading on Oct. 24th, will you do one of these things?

Like Blue Bicycle’s Facebook page and tell their Wall you’ll come to Tré’s #heartshapedmemoir reading on the 24th?

Follow/Tweet @BlueBikeBooks about #heartshapedmemoir and @tremillernyc?

Reblog this for your Charleston friends?

Got 48 hours to prove strong attendance to the bookstore and just like every milestone this year, nothing happens without Tumblr. With your signal boost, I’ll be hugging all the Charleston faces six weeks from now—and co-reading a certain adoption story along with Laurie Rae.

"When I started reading your story, I was afraid to get involved with a much older man out of fear..."

“When I started reading your story, I was afraid to get involved with a much older man out of fear that death might cut our marriage short. Alberto’s untimely loss made me realize none of us have a guaranteed shot at old age and we need to grab happy moments when they come come around. I want you to know that I married my much older man…thank you (and Alberto) for giving me the courage to love fearlessly.”
