If your past and future were turned into a TV series, who would play you and your daughter?
Coulda spent the past two years dreaming on this, but I didn’t.
And unbelievably, I have a meeting next week in L.A. with an agent and TV writer to discuss it.
Um, Tumblr?
H-E-L-P.
The Tré character needs to be a recognizable actress who can do dramedy and carry a series. She also needs to play a 30-something who could feasibly have a teenage daughter. (So Emma Stone is out. Sigh.) Laurie’s character would likely be cast as a younger version of whoever plays Tré.
Bearing all this in mind—and forgiving my 3rd person narration—anyone got ideas for casting this Tré character?
Put another way, who the hell should play me on TV?

“Catching up on your blog and OMG: there’s a post about me…with my picture on the High Line! I jumped and laughed when I came across it. Thanks for your special words about my visit. I love you and the time we spend together too.”

“Last Saturday I went to a concert with my fiancé and a happy song was played…a happy song that I also associate with a good friend who died three months ago. Last Saturday, as Frank Turner sang “Long Live the Queen,’ I sang along and cried unashamedly in a crowd of a thousand people. Thank you for helping me see that grief can be expressed amid joy and without guilt. Thank you for showing me how to embrace grief.”

What the Dead Leave Behind: Save, Sell, Donate, Delay?

In the year following Alberto’s fatal heart attack, I gave one of his Donna Karan suits to a homeless guy, gifted his Prada coat to his mother and invited his friends to choose what they liked from his walk-in closet.

My latest Modern Loss column explores how 20- and 30-somethings approach “Grieving & Purging.” Includes tips, lessons learned and a glimpse into the experience of fellow Tumblr Laura Parker (thelandofla).

“Although I’m not a widow, you’ve helped me realize it’s OK to tear up in the cheese aisle of the grocery store where I drove my late Grampy for groceries every week. And it’s also OK to cry when I see a van from the company where my father-in-law worked and be sad that he’ll never meet his future grandchildren. (He passed away Sept. 28 cancer at age 58.) You have showed me that it’s OK to have a moment in public and the hell with anyone who stares.”
