Convictions Cause Convicts

I mentioned yesterday my love of unintentionally amusing signs. I hate poking fun at anyone’s language skills, but the unintentional message regarding awareness of what we belong to in the world as opposed to not leaving your stuff unattended is too good.

We all want to belong to something. We just ask that you be aware of that fact.

Rock Port Is Now Advertising In Omaha

I was in Omaha recently and was surprised to see billboards advertising Rock Port, Missouri fireworks. I’d never seen billboards for the before, something quite that in the open. People did that for years, but I guess they hide it less now.

Seriously, they used to inspect cars and confiscate. Not enough, but some. Of course, Omaha legalized many fireworks on the fourth now that were not legal in previous years. They sell them all over town now…making Rock Port pretty useless.

Rock Port is quite a drive from Omaha. Not huge, but enough. People went down there to get the “good stuff.” In fact, the billboards mention this. Good stuff used to mean the stuff you couldn’t get just outside of Omaha, now in town right next to the billboards. After years of trying this, I think it’s crap.

What is the good stuff? All I can think of is bottle rockets and M-80s. That’s all I ever found in Rock Port that the Omaha-area (now Omaha) didn’t have. However, the M-80s weren’t real M-80s anyway, just bigger crackers than Black Cats but nowhere near as big as a real M-80 is. I’m sure there were other things, but not noticeable to someone who didn’t know legal classifications. As such, why bother? Why drive all that way when you can pretty much get everything right in town?

Frankly, I think it’s kind of a scam. People have conned everyone in Omaha into thinking they can get stuff that’s more fun in Rock Port when it’s really not that different. It’s a business, like anything else.

Personally, I’d just buy stuff in town.

Have You Noticed My Posts Start Getting Very Cursory When I Go Out Of Town?

Have you noticed that my posts start getting very cursory when I go out of town? Almost as if I want to schedule them all before I go so I don’t have to worry about them? Lots of animated gifs and quick, lame jokes?

There’s no reason I’m mentioning this after the last four days or so. I’m just wondering.

I Love Making A Meme Almost No One Gets And Fewer Like

Take one celebrity who was big 30 years ago. Combine with a reference that is totally unrelated to the celebrity and comes from a sporting event with a less than universal appeal that occurred even longer ago. What you’ll have is a meme that perhaps 10 people get and at most 5 people find funny.

I Really Have To Wonder If Facebook Revenues Are Down

I really have to wonder if Facebook revenues are down. All of a sudden, I’m getting tons of “notifications” from them separately for each page I run (I have a page for each of my books as well as an author page) trying to get me to boost posts.

I wouldn’t mind one or two, but all of a sudden there are a ton of these. One some pages I’m getting them 7-10 times more than I’m getting any actual notifications. That’s way too much, always making me get on to clear notifications way more often than anything is going on for the page. The pages are minor things to begin with so I’m not boosting anything, and I know how crap a thing boosting is from hearing how much people have spent with little or nothing to show for it (usually nothing other than the expense). I don’t know if there’s a way to shut these dumb things off, but they’re making the pages way more bother than they are worth. Thinking about deleting the pages if Facebook doesn’t cut out suggesting I boost posts so often.

It just seems so desperate.
