You know that company that gives you the best possible search results and makes a pretty nifty social layer? And you know that company that puts design of their computers and other devices before all else?

Wouldn't it be nice if those companies applied that sort of dedication in making a decent book-publishing experience?

Beer... with a smattering of books!

Normally we make a quick mention of our beer, then discuss books and publishing. This time we're calling on our natural ability to do things totally backwards and will mention what we're reading these days, then discuss beer for the whole show! Yes, beer. What kinds we like, why we drink it, and anything else that pops to mind. Tune in and ask us any questions you might have about this tasty, tasty beverage!

Books & Beer is a weekly video show for indie authors and by indie authors. Plenty of digital publishing goodness … and we drink beer! Follow us on Google+ at https://plus.google.com/u/0/105236277208554710444/posts and go to our page during this time to watch or join in!

Intrigued? Check out http://booksandbeer.com for a complete archive of all our previous shows!

Author Pro-Tip #875.

If you're actively using Google+ as an author (and if you're an author, you should be,) don't forget to add your freshly published book to Google+ ASAP. Someone will likely catch wind of the noise you're making (or others are making for you) and start searching your posts and profile to find it. Do you make it easy?

I do. And I eat my own dog food, having just added my fifth book to my Google+ profile. Here's how to do it:

1. Select "Profile" from the pull-down list on the upper left corner of your G+ stream.
2. Click "About" from the choices on top of your profile.
3. Scroll down to "Links"  and click Edit.
4. Add the book name and the link to the marketplace you think will sell the most books for you. For me, that's Amazon. And it's probably the same for you, unless you have evidence to the contrary.
5. Position your mouse to the left of the entry fields, and you should be able to click and drag your new entry to the top of the list.

Hit save and you're all set!

Just when you thought it was safe to walk in the gas station...

Go ahead and delete your cookies. Feel free to sign up for DO NOT CALL lists. But if you walk into a gas station -- sorry, petrol station -- owned by Tesco in the UK, they'll scan your face and figure out your demographics!.

And if that's not creepy enough, dunhumby (yes, that dunhumby) is aggregateing the info and doing advanced segmentation. http://goo.gl/2mh12C

The good news is that I won't have to worry about anyone using my phone number to steal my Fry's points. The bad news is that they will probably FIND SARAH CONNER.

You are seriously losing your mind, +Google+!

Lots of people I know have bitched about the scrambled timeline in their G+ stream. I've largely ignored it (being an unabashed G+ fan,) though have found it odd that things from thirty minutes ago can sometimes outrank things from 2 minutes ago. Hey, it happens. Popularity of posts, etc. I get it.

But... this? Holy crap, Google. What possible reason would you have of surfacing a post of mine from seventeen months ago in my own "All" stream, mingled in with things from this hour?

Sorry, but I gotta call you out on this one. You might want to give +Matt Cutts a call to see if you can figure out your "freshness" algo. 'Cuz what you have is way way off base.

I'll start with +Jay Baer's closing argument:

"[T]he age of the brand as media company with an emphasis on owned assets will be a short one..."

This new GPC is one incarnation of cooperative content, though it's a little different than what Jay is talking about.

My own experiment into minimalistic publishing is another, though also quite different from Jay's concept.

And that may be the whole idea. Cooperative content will take many forms, and none of those are predictable in nature.

Time for a new(ish) headshot. This one is from a photo shoot about a year ago. Like it?

What's the best business book summary/abstract provider?

I've got a new (and rather cool) job function that requires me to be more well-versed in the current business literature. (If that makes you die a little inside; you're not alone. I'd much rather dig into some far-future SF escapism than read some fad business trend.)

Hence my desire for service that summarizes/abstract-izes those books.

I'm only looking for personal recommendations. I know of a few already and am familiar with google as a verb. Here's what I'm looking for:

* Platform independence -- I may read on my Kindle fire, phone or screen.
* All you can eat -- I don't want to be limited, as I plan on reading, dumping, and moving on to the next thing.
* Newest and coolest, not just hottest -- While popularity has a place, I'm looking for more cutting edge stuff that you may not see on Colbert.

Who can help?

5 things my doctor learned on my Beer Diet!

Don't just take my word for it. Here's a 5:00 video from my doctor, +Terry Simpson, that shows what he learned (more reinforced) on my month-long beer diet, three years running.

[Evo's note: Dos Equis and Fat Tire? I don't think so, doc!]
