Fourteen-year-old Breena Taljain’s dreary existence in the slums of Purgaire comes to a sudden end when a chance encounter with a criminal mastermind known as the Patriarch goes horridly wrong. His assault on her for refusing to pay for her mother’s addiction leaves her comatose and teetering on the edge of life and death.

Galbrecht Atalir is a washed-up doctor struggling to overcome his inner demons through alcohol and aggression. He never quite recovered from the unsolved murder of his family seven years prior. When he discovers Breena as his newest patient, he knows at once that the Patriarch is the one who eluded him for almost a decade.

The medicine Galbrecht gives Breena draws her into a heavenly paradise. When it ebbs away, though, the recurring trauma plunges her into treacherous hinterlands. There, Breena must learn to find power in courage, hope, and love to overcome fiends of hatred bent on permanently ending her existence.  With justice burning in his heart, Galbrecht begins a race against time to seek out the Patriarch in the underworld before Breena loses her struggle against the ever-darkening terrors of her mind...

Entrelacen Review

Life isn’t always easy.
And it certainly isn’t easy for April or Logan.
I am lucky enough to be friends with Dani and her and I have had numerous talks and share sessions of this story. She’s done a fantastic job of taking a bit of truth and twisting it, turning it, forming it into a life of its own.
I laughed, I swooned, and I cried. I don’t want to gush about how much the story affects me or how much I love the author, so I’m shutting up about that.

April.
She’s honest and shy, fun and caring. She had a crap upbringing but made the best of it and turned out better and stronger for it.
She becomes an adoptive mom. Being a stepmother myself, I LOVE THAT (and Dani, because she is too!). It’s no where near an easy job, being a parent of any kind is tough as hell but rewarding in so many ways.
Magic is her. She is magic.

Logan.
He’s troubled, he’s swoonworthy, and he’s exactly right for April. He doesn't come without his own struggles and baggage, either.

When these two get together, and get it right (it takes them a while and it’s not entirely their fault), they’re amazing.

I think you should read it, not just because my friend wrote it, but because it’s a fantastic story. Love, hope, fear – it’s almost real. It’ll definitely keep your attention. <3    Buy link - Amazon

Stages Of Grace by Carey Heywood (Blog Tour)

I know this girl named Carey, we talk about all sorts of things. From our love of sweedish fish to our book hugging habits.    Author Bio:Carey Heywood lives in Richmond, Viginia with her husband, three children and nine-pound attack Yorkie. In her spare time, she transports her children from one extra-curricular activity to another while maintaining her day job in the world of finance. Right now, she is probably eating Swedish Fish.  I’ve got an excerpt and interview to share with you! EEEE!!!  We'll start with the interview! Hi Carey! Welcome! It’s so nice to finally have you here!
Hey Rachel!!!Thank you so so much for having me on your blog :)

So, first question. I know Swedish Fish is your first choice for snacks, is that the only snack you write with?

When I'm writing I usually don't snack that much but I always have fizzy water on hand...or rum...

I LOVE LOVE music, do you create playlists accordingly with your Works In Progress?  I do! The playlist for Stages of Grace is going to be featured onhttp://letsgetnerdy.blogspot.com/ One song from it is Hunter by Dido.

Can you recall what you were doing when Stages Of Grace invaded your mind?  After Googling ways to deal with grief for a friend who had recently lost someone I noticed that the emotions for dealing with the death of a loved can be the same as the death of a relationship.

Do you have a favorite scene in Stages Of Grace?
My favorite scene is when Grace and Ryan go out on the jet ski.Ohhhh… loved that scene too!!

What's your inspiration to keep writing?

I still feel like I have something to say.
Do you write with visual aids? Music? Total silence?

Background noise is okay, but I prefer silence when I write.
If you didn't have a day job, what would your writing schedule look like?
I'm not sure. I've become accustomed to writing at night. I had a week off recently, I thought I could write all day. Not so much.

What is your absolute dream writing atmosphere, anywhere?  I'd love to be near water. Maybe on a lake or river, sitting in a comfy chair on a screened in porch.
How did you come up with the names for your characters?
The structure of this book was inspired by the stages of grief. I thought Grace would be flow well, plus it's my daughter's middle name. Otherwise I just pick random names I like.

Releasing your book baby is exciting and terrifying. What is something you do to keep calm?
I'm not sure I'm that calm. Nope, not really calm at all. I think I'll feel nauseous for the next couple of weeks. I'm willing to listen to any ideas... Yea, I’ve got nothing in that department.
Can you tell us about anything you're working on currently?
My next WIP is called Him and is with my editor right now. It's about a girl named Sarah and the boy she's been trying to forget since high school. I'm currently writing another novel called Better.

Last question! ;) When are we making our Swedish Fish Lovers clothing line? Haha!  Soon! Very soon! Lol! <3
Thank you Carey!

Here’s a little something for you, just to get a taste of the awesomeness! Excerpt-

I lean up against a wall and fidget as I watch passengers filing out in all directions. I try to look at every face as they pass, but there are way more of them than there are of me. Ryan sees me first."Hullo!"I look around, trying to place where his greeting is coming from when he's suddenly right in front of me, pulling me into a hug."Well, you're a sight for sore eyes."I laugh. "Long flight?Ryan nods, not letting me go. I swat him on the arm. "Can I take you out for a burger?"He just nods and grins down at me. Ryan only has a small duffle bag so we head straight to my car. Before we get outside, I stop him to see if he’s brought a hat. He hasn’t and is touched when I pull out a beanie for him. Once he has it on, I have to admit it looks pretty good on him. Seeing Ryan's reaction to the cold, I hurry to my car and get the heater going."Grace, why does my ass feel like it’s burning?""Oh, sorry. I turned on the seat heaters." I reach over to switch his to low."Next time warn a fella.""Will do" I laugh, trying not to think about his ass."So where're you taking me?""To Swensons. Awesome burger, but it’s a drive in. Do you want to eat there or bring the food back to my place?""Can we take it back to your place?"Once we have our food, I drive home. It’s weird to think that after tomorrow I won't be able to call it that anymore. I warn him to watch his step on the way up the stairs. Ryan does fine. I slip twice. Damn stairs. Once inside, I give him a quick tour: pile of stuff, empty room, empty room, air mattress, kitchen, and bathroom. Ryan laughs at my descriptions, and after setting his bag down, goes to the bathroom. I unpack our food onto the kitchen counter, grab a roll of paper towels, and make a picnic for us in front of the TV. I am switching on the news to get the next day's weather when Ryan walks out.He pulls off his beanie as he walks into the front room, making his hair go crazy. He looks at me in confusion as I bring my hand up to my mouth to keep from laughing. Walking over I finger comb his hair back down as he looks down at me. Whoa. I take a step back, almost knocking over my drink to put some space back between us. Ryan notices my reaction and gives me a half smile as he sits down to eat.   So there you have it!Stalk Carey - TwitterFacebookBlogGoodReads Also, you can purchase her previous books - these are the Amazon links - A Bridge Of Her Own and Uninvolved Also, there's a giveaway HERE

Holding On by Emma Hart Review

Emma has yet ANOTHER book out! Well actually it's her FIRST novella! Holding On

Living in London after spending almost twenty years in a town with a population of three hundred would be hard on anyone – and Alec Johnson is no exception to the rule.
When Alec followed Lexy to London, he knew his life would change drastically. He just didn’t know how much. With Lexy’s friends and admirer to contend with, he has to show there’s more to the country surfer boy than is ability to ride the waves. With his own shameless admirers, he has to keep Lexy’s trust – and despite her love for him, that’s no easy task.

Beneath her tough girl exterior, all Jennifer Mason has ever wanted to do is paint. London’s School of Art can give her that, and she couldn’t be happier she’s finally breaking free from Lilac Bay. What she’s not happy about is having to leave Carl behind – or his reluctance to visit her while she’s studying.
Their relationship is put to the test as living on her own for the first time and university take their toll on Jen. After all, three hundred miles is a long way to be away from your boyfriend when you’re eighteen years old.
And it’s even harder when you can’t keep your eyes off your best friend’s older brother.

Purchase at Amazon today!

Here's my review!

Holding On… That’s exactly what I’m doing.
No really.
After you read it you’ll feel the SAME way!
Don’t take the above statement and shy away. You’ll love this novella! It’s a quick and easy read that will definitely leave you wanting more.
I’ve told Emma from the very beginning, “I need more Alec!” It’s absolutely true. Alec is wonderful, Lexy is a doll, Bing is… Well Bing is just Bing, and Jen is HILARIOUS!
You’ll definitely burst out laughing at least once, okay, maybe more.
Must Read, skip adding it to a list, just get it – a few hours max, depending on how fast you read.

Meet the lovely author and my fabulous Critique Partner!

Having grown up in both the cold, quiet town of Topsham, Maine and the steamy, southern hospitality of Mobile, Alabama, Michele is something of a enigma.  She is an avid Yankees fan, loves New England, being outdoors and misses snow.  However she thinks southern boys are hotter, Alabama football is the only REAL football out there and sweet tea is the best thing this side of heaven and her children’s laughter!  Her family, a doting hubby and three little minnions, have planted their roots in the middle of Michele’s two childhood homes in Charlotte, North Carolina.   Never Let You Fall is Michele’s first novel and she is beyond thrilled to have finally followed up on a dream she has held for over 20 years!  God willing there will be many many more books to follow.

Blog Stop: The Love Game by Emma Hart

First… You need to look at this…

Here’s a bit about the book :)

Synopsis

His challenge? Make her fall in love with him.
Her challenge? Play the player.
Until life changes the rules of the game.

Maddie Stevens hated Braden Carter on sight. Arrogant, egotistical, and the playboy of the University of California, Berkeley,he's everything her brother Pearce has taught her to despise. So why, when the girls challenge her to play the player, doesn't she say no? She doesn't know either.
Braden wanted fiery little Maddie the second he laid eyes on her - and he'd do anything to have her, hence why he's agreed to make her fall in love with him. After all, it's the only way he'll get what he wants. Sex.
But,as Braden discovers, there's more to the girl from Brooklyn than he ever imagined - and he can't help but care about the broken girl behind those pretty green eyes.
Maddie finds Braden isn't just a walking erection - he actually has feelings. He can be sweet, funny and his good looks don't exactly hurt. That means trouble - but when her brother Pearce turns up in Berkeley begging for her help, she realises Braden and Pearce aren't so alike anymore.
And maybe, just maybe, they're exactly what each other needs.

Purchase it here - Kobo     Amazon

What did I think?
I love it. For several reasons.
The challenge – believable.
I’m in my twenties and a few friends I have are “players” I’ve seen it happen. One love interest gets under their skin and they either straighten up or they get worse – trying to forget THAT ONE.
The characters – as I was reading, I could picture every single one of them, hear their voices, see the motions flit across their faces, feel the anger, the humor and see the Starbucks just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from campus.
Emma Hart has brought this storyto life with her bad ass talent. Again.
This story has COFFEE! I was so excited by that, you have no idea. I’m weird. *pushes wanting a vanilla caramelfrap to the back burner*
As with everything else, we all have our favorite people, their favorite lines, their favorite scene, etc.
For me?
Braden. Oh…. Braden. You won abit of my heart dude. He's the finest kind of caveman there is ;)There's definitely more to him than meets the eye, just the same for Maddie.
But Emma knows that Braden is my #CavemanBraden
As much as I love the Caveman, and the coffee… I have to say Megan was my favorite.
She’s sweet, kick ass, and she is the ultimate best friend. She knew her best friend/brother Braden needed something, or rather, SOMEONE to change him.
Now, I’m a firm believer in people only change if THEY want to. It’s that whole self-help thing, you don’t get fixed by someone - you fix yourself. And even then, you’re not fixed. Anyway,I’m off topic.
Megan had a “sister’s intuition” moment that was spot on. She knew that if he got played, he’d learn that what the was doing was wrong.
Before I get all spoilery, I’m going to stop myself.
Keep Calm And….

Love #CavemanBraden
Need I say more?

Now I have something special just for you!
My interview with the one and only Megan :)

Hi Megan :) so nice to meet you!

Hi, Rachel! Thanks for having me.

How long have you known Braden?

I’ve known him for as long as I can remember. Our moms met in college, so he’s kinda always been there.

What was it like growing up with him?

He was always getting me into trouble! No, really, he was. I swear, I was a good girl. *smiles* although, when Tom Harvey tried kissing me in fourth grade, I punched him in the nose and Braden took the wrap for it. So I guess I got him into trouble.*grins*

Tell us a funny story of you and Braden as kids. Please?

I have so many stories, but I’m unsure if any of them are really that funny.Apart from when I wanted a poodle when I was seven, and he shaved his mom’s cat to look like one. It was funny until our parents found out, anyway.

How did you meet Maddie?

I met her in English class! I was late on our first day, and the seat next to hers was the only empty seat.

After getting to know her, did you want to play matchmaker?

Absolutely. I love getting people together.Just call me Cupid.

When the challenge presented itself, were you 100% on board with it or were you more torn?

Absolutely! After a few weeks I knew they were what each other needed, and it gave me the opportunity to get them together.

How did you think it would turn out at the beginning?

Maddie was so against it being anything more than a challenge that I thought she’d actually carry it out. I’m kinda glad Pearce came to Berkeley, though, because I think that’s when she realized Braden isn’t like Pearce at all.

Love is very important to you, and so is Braden. Are you worried Braden will react like a barbarian and try chasing him off?

*sighs*I know Braden will do everything in his power to see me single until I die. One day, though, he’ll have to give it up.

Fun and easy one, don't worry. ;)
You and Maddie visit Starbucks a lot, what's your absolute favorite? Or do you mix it up sometimes?

I mix it up! I like so many I can’t ever pick just one favorite.

Do you have eyes for anyone in particular?

*blushes* I’m not saying a word. You’ll have to wait and find out.

Last question, it's of the fun variety as well. If you could choose to be any supernatural being or creature, what would it be and why?

I’d be a mermaid. I love The Little Mermaid.

And here is the badass that brought these amazing characters to life …

By day, Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old and cooking baby, due September 2013. True Connection Tease

I think I may just post teases on Wednesday, blogger seems to cooperate better.
Anyway...

I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on these revisions! It’s a wonderful feeling!
I should be done soon and editing will pick up again. I’ll pick a release date at halfway mark with edits. Shouldn’t take terribly long, just longer than I originally planned.

Okay…. I won’t ramble on anymore. Here’s what you’ve come here for! :)

*Note, this snippet is subject to change or removal. Unedited*

True Connection (Book one in The Soul Mate Series)

The class phone rings, shattering my thoughts.
“Jasmine?” Mr. Hare calls as he hangs up the phone. “You’re needed in the office.”
I stiffly nod and try to keep my fear of the empty hallways at bay. He smiles and hands me a pass as I walk to the front of the room.
Whoever built this school must’ve been a demon’s best friend. I’m currently on the second floor of the school in the South hall. The office is on the first floor in the North hall. I groan, and briskly walk to the stairwell.
I make it to the office just fine and grab my English book from the secretary. Choosing the closest set of stairs, I run up the flight of steps and push open the door to the second floor. Footsteps echo behind me, thundering down the hall towards me, after passing just two doors. My breathing kicks up as I push myself into a faster jog and try unsuccessfully to swallow my panicked fear.
The footsteps get faster and sound closer, threatening to catch me. Hairs on my arm begin the raise as my panic rises.
I turn the corner and take off in a sprint to get to the other end of the hall to my class.
The footsteps are running after me and I can feel eyes on my back. I glance over my shoulder and nearly scream when I see an empty hallway. My body chills, goosepimples spread over me like wildfire, the temperature around me drops significantly. It’s like I’m sitting in an ice bath. Seeing my classroom, I pant as I slow my run and slide into a locker just before the door to my class, feeling my skin crawl.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s teaser and I hope to see you back next week!
<3
Have a fabulous week! Emma Hart's The Love Game blog stop will be here on Easter Sunday! :) See you then!

Excerpt

JEN

I stand, walking towards Bing. “Tell me this is some kind of ass wiping joke?”
“I wish,” he replies, looking down at me. “Believe me, spending my evening with you wasn’t in my plan.”
“So change it,” I hiss. “There is no way I’m spending all of Saturday night smiling and hanging onto your arrogant arm, Samuel!” Although, it is a very pretty arm.
He sighs. “Look, Jennifer, I don’t exactly want you on my arm, but it’s too late to change it. Mum has already ordered matching outfits.”
“Are you fucking kidding?” I deadpan. “Not only do I have to go with you, everyone will know I’m with you because, what? Your tie will match my dress?”
“Oh, and there’s the brains she used to get into university,” he responds snarkily. “Yes, Jen. My tie is the same material and colour as your dress. Believe me, I’m not damn happy.”
I heave in a breath. “This is gonna be as about as successful as Hades in the North Pole.” I throw my arms up, and turn back to Lexy’s bed. I throw myself face down on it.
“I wouldn’t lie like that,” Bing says. “You have no idea what’s happened on that bed.”
I get back up and growl. I push past him, moving to stomp down the stairs.
“Hey, I was just saying!” he calls, following me.
“Go away, Samuel. I want to see you as much as I want a shard of glass in my ass.”

Haha. Gotta love Jen!

It's finally time for a Tuesday Teaser!

Okay, so I had a wee bit of trouble picking out a teaser.
But! My horrible decision making skills finally so fit to decide!
I’ll shut up and tease!

*Note, this may change before publication

He takes a step towards me and I take one back. But I forget about the log and end up landing on my ass with my legs draped over the log.
I burst out laughing and Seth laughs, too.
He reaches out his hand to help me up. With him laughing this hard it’s easy to knock him off balance and pull him down to me. So I do.
It feels nice having him like this, the pressure of his body on mine. I have one hand on his chest, the other grips his bicep.
Suddenly we aren’t laughing anymore. We’re just staring into each other’s eyes. He starts to lean down towards me and I bite my lip again. He groans and closes his eyes as he gets closer to my mouth.

I hope you enjoyed the tease :)
In other news, my writing nook is complete! I took it for a test drive last night while I revised!
So comfy. I’m happy! :)
Speaking of revisions…. They’re coming along nicely, I’m still behind, but I’m catching up.
Being sick really took a lot out of me. Ugh. So happy to be on the mend!
Another happy note?
I have started purchasing swag items for giveaways!
Of course my lovely, talented CP Emma Hart has claimed a few things for herself, but that’s okay, it’s all easily replaced and you all won’t miss out!
Promise!
One last thing!
Next month, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for a certain release…
*zips lips*
That’s all I’m allowed to say right now!
