Wayne Grossman woke up at 6:30 a.m. to the sound of silence. He lay in bed for several minutes, wondering if, now that he was retired, perhaps something was wrong with his hearing. Had he gone deaf overnight? Just then a distant siren wailed to confirm that his hearing was not faulty. He sat on the edge of the bed to contemplate this odd development. Usually his wife was preparing breakfast by now, but there was no breakfast odor, no clatter of dishes in the kitchen. He became aware of Helen lying on her side, facing him, one arm outside the blanket. It appeared as though she was fast asleep but there was no color in her face, no rise and fall of breathing.Wayne sat there for some time, wondering what to do. Finally he said, “Helen.” When there was no response, he raised his voice a little. “Helen. Helen.” He bounced a bit on the edge of the bed. “Helen! Helen!”When Helen still didn’t respond, he grabbed a handful of blanket and pulled. The way her arm was wrapped around the outside of the blanket caused her entire body to move with the blanket in an unnatural fashion. There was no separate movement of limbs. Helen was stiff as a board.Wayne went into the bathroom. When he reappeared, he was freshly showered, shaved, and dressed in a dark brown suit, a white shirt, and a dark brown tie. He noted that Helen’s position hadn’t changed.A creature of habit, Wayne went to the front door to find The Los Angeles Times. He tucked it under his arm and stepped out into his Toluca Lake neighborhood. He ate breakfast promptly at 7 each morning but since there was none waiting for him this morning, he went in search of breakfast.

~~ABOUT THE AUTHOR~~
freed F. Collyer Reed was born with the help of a doctor who certified the health of prostitutes in a Nevada brothel. Raised by his mother and numerous “aunts,” he remembers times when he awoke at night to see his mother engaged in her trade.
Eventually she married a wealthy miner client and they moved to San Francisco. His stepfather died when he was eight. In less than a decade his mother’s life had transformed from working at a rural Nevada brothel servicing mine owner-operators and ranchers to a life in the wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco where her son was a reminder of the past as well as a social liability. She sent him to various boarding and military schools, including a British finishing school, a Christian Holy Roller school (his words), Catholic Reform, and state reform school. In Reed’s words, “I’m lucky to have lived through my youth. Any drug I liked I used in excess, and I liked them all.”A sober Reed and his artist wife live on a cruising sailboat in the San Francisco Bay Area with her pit bull and a cat. When not writing, he’s an avid motorcyclist and shares his passion for bicycles and sailing with his wife.

There’s something about that one person we date in our teens but never become intimate with. Why does a sexless relationship render us unable to stop carrying that person, the what if, with us into our adult life? For Heidi Johnson, Shane Hughes is her “one that got away.” Through the years, he has stayed in the back of her mind while she became an adult, a mother, and her own person. Meanwhile, Shane has lived a life of regret that he let Heidi go for the wrong reasons: fear and a misguided sense of not wanting to hurt either of them. When they reconnect online, the memories they've tried to suppress over the years return, reigniting the feelings never explored ‘back in the day.’ Will a school reunion in their home town of London, surrounded by old school friends, help the pair address the questions the years apart left unanswered? Or will they still be left with wanting more?

For almost half an hour I sat at an abandoned table by the wall, smoking my cigarettes one after the other. Apart from a few voices filtering out through the open doors, I sat in complete silence. Not one other person came out, but I could hear voices. It seemed most of the smokers were outside the front, leaving me to feel like I was the only smoker in the building.
Leaning back against the wall, I let the soft breeze play over my flushed face and was savouring a bit of peace and quiet when I looked at my watch and jumped. I hadn’t realised that it was so late—time certainly does fly when you’re having fun. Which I had been having, before the need to escape into the dark overtook me. Crushing out my cigarette in the huge metal ashtray, I stood to go back inside. I stalled when I caught sight of Shane making his way through the crowded downstairs room of the pub, walking in the direction of the beer garden. Towards me. Crumpling back down onto the seat, I lit another cigarette, my hand shaking from nerves, and . . . something else. It was okay sitting close to him in a crowded room surrounded by people, but the garden was deserted and dark. He spotted me pretty quick thanks to the glowing orange tip of my lit cigarette.
“Nice spot.” He pointed to the overhanging branches of ivy that partially hid the table. Without speaking further, he sat down next to me and took my face between his warm, strong hands. All I could see were his beautiful eyes locking on me—right before his lips crashed into mine.

Emily Portman loves her job. A writer for Breakout! Magazine, she shadows and showcases up-and-coming bands. When her next assignment takes her to Austin, Texas, she can’t wait to add the city to her map of places she’s visited. Places she’s left without looking back. Her plan is to keep moving on, and the last thing she needs is a man holding her back. She’s not going down that road again. Tyler Macy is stuck in a rut. Despite his exceptional talent as a musician, he has chosen to take a backseat with his music and let others grab the limelight. Wounded and mistrustful, he doesn’t appreciate his friends’ efforts to bring him back to center stage. Emily comes onto the scene and sees his full potential, but he fights to stay in the shadows, shutting her out before she can add to the scars another woman gave him. For Tyler to find his music again, he needs to accept the help that Emily and their friends offer. When he discovers that his muse lies underneath Emily’s skin, it is still not enough to keep her from walking away. Neither will admit what they really want until it is too late. Emily is once again thrown in Tyler’s path when she is assigned to join them on tour. Despite the pain in his past, Tyler sees that she is worth it, even if she’s stolen both his heart and peace of mind. In order for them to be together, they both must discover whether the music and their passion are enough to overcome the obstacles that separate them. Maybe finding love is worth the risk.

~MY REVIEW~

"Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. No Maybe about it."
These were the words I left on the Ms. Johnson’s Facebook wall the moment I finished reading her latest offering. This contemporary romance is a fairly quick read, not because it’s short, but because it sucks you in and doesn’t let you go.
It’s riveting.It’s gut-wrenching.It makes you FEEL.
Maybe is the story of a Emily Portman, a music journalist whose cross-country travels have her crossing paths with the penultimate ‘rockstar’. Tyler Macy (later dubbed Mace Face by Emily due to an amusing misunderstanding) is gorgeous, a handyman, fantastic on the drums, and liquid sex when he takes the mic.
All things Emily has sworn she would never fall for. She never wanted to be ‘that girl’ … the band groupie. After her childhood dreams of being a ballerina were shattered with a knee injury, her goal in life was to be good at her job and get lost in the music, nothing else.
In the past Tyler opened his heart to a woman, and after she destroyed it, he swore he’d never fall in love again. He never counted on meeting Emily, and certainly never thought he’d feel the music within again.
Funny how love works.
Ms. Johnson will take you on a musical literary journey with her style and quick wit. Her story is told in first person present tense, not a style that is easy to pull off without it becoming a hodge podge of telling instead of showing. Yet she does it brilliantly. You feel the turmoil within Emily as she fights the growing attraction to Tyler. You experience the power of their physical touches. You soar with delight when things work out, and you cringe in despair when they don’t.
Maybe is an emotional  powerhouse and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
**I was given an ARC by the author and TWCS Publishing House in exchange for an honest review.**

Walking toward him is like trudging through the deepest mud, but I hold my head high, my hands in my pockets and strides long. When I'm less than a foot away, his head turns toward me without lifting his chin, and he looks up from under his brows. The white smoke from his cigarette causes his eyes to nearly close before he pulls it from his lips and exhales upward into the air. I'm struck by how incredibly handsome he is in black wool and new jeans. I want to know if his skin feels hot under his clothes and if his back feels the same when I scratch fingernails across his spine. My fists clench in my coat pockets at the thought. This is going to be so much harder than I'd been prepared for.

RELEASE BLITZ & GIVEAWAY: Ashes to Sparks by Jeanine Binder

blogcover AshesToSparks-ebook-web
Synopsis

Fire alarms, car accidents, and wildfires.  Those used to be the biggest things Ryan had to worry about.  Not what he was going to have to say to a judge in order to be able to see his own daughter more than once a month.  The politics of divorce only served to spin up his temper and make him a cold-hearted bastard to his fellow firefighters, his friends, and even his family. In the middle of all of this drama, Ryan found a friend.   A friendship which exploded in his mind once he found out she was a widow; her husband having been killed while deployed in the Middle East.  Ryan felt like Lindsay was a living piece of his soul. Can Lindsay hold him together through the trials of having his daughter abducted?   Can she show Ryan that love is what binds people together, especially during a time of strife, showing him the way to happiness?
Excerpt
His cell phone rang at ten minutes to eleven that evening. “Jeffries,” he said answering it.He couldn’t understand the person on the other end. They were intermittently yelling and crying – all he knew was it was Wendy’s voice on the phone. So he waited patiently for her to finish whatever fit she was having at that moment. It was normal for her to just scream and yell on the phone, not making a lot of sense until she thought she had said what she wanted. He could live a long life without her constant drama scenes.“You done?” he asked, when the voice was quiet.“Yes,” she said. “I want you to bring Kristen home to me tonight.”“She’s sound asleep and it’s eleven o’clock,” he countered. “I’ll drop her off at school in the morning.”“I’ll call the police. I’ll tell them you kidnapped her.”The threat didn’t even faze him. “Go right ahead, Wendy. I’ll have Kristen’s school come and testify that you continually neglect to pick her up after school. It’s starting to become a habit with you. What the hell is that all about?”“Fine,” she said, a huffy tone in her voice and ignoring his question. “You’re an asshole, Ryan.”She hung up the phone and Ryan smiled to himself, knowing he had won this battle, small that it was. He leaned his head back against the couch, closing his eyes against a raging headache. Never again, he said to himself. I will never let a woman in my life again. Just not worth it. Ryan was thirty-three, six-foot-five, two-hundred-twenty pounds, with red hair and green eyes – not like he had issues with women admiring the way he looked. He’d catch women watching him all the time; he just wasn’t ready to jump into anything after all of the chaos he’d gone through with Wendy. It would take a very special woman to change his mind. He liked being able to do as he pleased without having to worry about any repercussions.

RELEASE BLITZ: Infinite Completion by Michelle Dennis

blogcover

Synopsis    Abbie Bennet is a twenty year old bookworm who considers herself well-balanced and sensible. Her heart and intuition agree on most things and she has no intention of upsetting this for anyone. When she ventures out of her comfort zone to join her friends at a local bar, her balance is knocked way off course by a stranger who is everything her mother, and intuition, have warned her about.

Phillip takes Sarah’s hand and leads her through the crowd toward the bar.‘So, I guess the lead singer is the band manager too? Abbie, go and ask him for his card,’ Ethan gestures at him, the man who made my knees turn to jelly.‘Um, no, not me... you go,’ I shout quite loudly. I have a lump in my throat. I can’t talk to him.‘You’re closer, just go and get a business card,’ Ethan says, as he turns his back to me and continues canoodling with Hannah. I sigh and turn to the bar. Here goes.‘Um, excuse me!’ I say, as loudly as possible over the thumping of the music. He doesn’t seem to hear me. I touch him on the shoulder lightly. His skin is hot through the dampness of his t-shirt. I pull my hand back quickly when he turns. He smirks and shows his perfect white teeth. ‘It’s okay, I don’t bite,’ he shouts out over the music.I step back a little and he moves toward me.He bends toward my ear. ‘Do you wanna dance?’ he says loudly.Instinctively, I move back again, bumping up against another girl. ‘Oh, um, no thanks. Your friend said you may have a business card?’He lifts an eyebrow and continues standing way too close. He looks a little confused. I assume he doesn’t get turned down very often. He leans towards me again and says, ‘You might like it.’ I feel my cheeks burn and when I glance at him as I move away, I notice him looking at my neck.Stepping back, I clear my throat to make sure my voice works and shout over the music, ‘I don’t think so.’He moves closer again and I feel my heart jolt. ‘You looked like you were enjoying yourself before.’ He’s grinning and looking me over. ‘I promise to be gentle.’‘I, well, no thanks, I’ve had enough for one night.’ Did I just say that? I sound like my mother.‘Okay,’ he shrugs, ‘your call.’ He glances around and leans against the bar, his shirt stretching across his chest. ‘What can I do for you?’I must look a little confused or dazed, or something. I’m trying to place his very slight accent. Irish? But, he looks Greek. I gulp and try to sound calm. ‘My friends and I would like to book your band for a party.’ A smile plays on his lips and I can see he’s watching my mouth as I speak.‘Sure, but I don’t have any business cards available.’ He turns away from me to ask the attractive girl behind the bar something and she quickly hands him a pen. I notice the gleam in her eye and feel an unexpected pang of jealously. Then he writes on a napkin and hands it to me. ‘Here’s my number.’‘Er thanks...’ This is my comeback? Absolutely no grace and now he probably thinks he’s made my heart flutter.I push my way through the crowd and back to the safety of my friends. Shoving the napkin into Ethan’s shirt pocket, I try to look unflustered, because there’s no way I’m calling this guy.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW: Burning For Her Kiss by Sherri Hayes

Burning For Her Kiss (Serpent's Kiss, Book 1) by Sherri HayesGenre: BDSM Erotic RomanceRelease Date: February 12, 2015

Book Summary
Beth Davenport has no interest in getting involved with another man for the foreseeable future. To say her last relationship ended in disaster would be a colossal understatement. The only reason she agrees to put in an appearance at Serpent’s Kiss, a private kink club in downtown St. Louis, is because her best friend, Nicole, won’t quit nagging her. When she walks in the door that night, the last thing she expects to do is meet a man who will have her reconsidering her ban on men.
As a captain with the St. Louis Fire Department, Drew Parker is used to being in charge. His crew relies on him to make sure they know what they’re doing and return home to their families after every shift. It isn’t, however, what he wants in a relationship. Drew decides to join Serpent’s Kiss to see if what appeals to him in fantasy is something he wants to explore in the real world. He’s also hoping that he’ll be lucky enough to meet a woman with whom he can explore his desires. The night Beth walks into the club, he is intrigued. Drew has to get to know her better.

After what happened to her, Beth is reluctant to get involved with Drew. It doesn’t matter that he is sweet and charming. She’s been burned before and Beth doesn’t think she can survive having her heart crushed again. Drew, however, won’t take no for an answer. He wants a relationship and is determined to chip away at her defenses until she relents. Will she give him a chance, or did her ex leave her with scars too deep to heal?

My Review:

I want to stand up and applaud Ms. Hayes for tackling a femdom series. Not for the kink factor, but to demonstrate another facet of the BDSM Lifestyle. One that demonstrates that healthy, “normal” people can also find an inner-submissive whether they are male or female. When dominating or submitting, gender doesn’t matter, it’s the feeling and desire to do so that counts. Whether sex is involved or not.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. About a third of the way in, the story did lag a bit as Beth waged a continual inner war with herself. For a Domme, a ‘woman in charge’, this wishy-washiness just didn’t jive with me. I understand that she had trust issues from her previous relationship, but at no point is she given any reason to continually doubt Drew the way she does. His background is thoroughly researched as part of the membership to the club (Serpent’s Kiss), and corroborated by another Domme, Beth’s best friend, who works in the same circles as Drew outside of the club. He doesn’t disappear on business trips. He doesn’t make excuses or present himself as anything but sincere. Drew doesn’t hide anything, not even his clear intentions to be around as long as it takes Beth to be comfortable with their budding relationship. I’d go so far as to call the man a saint with his level of patience. And who doesn’t love a man that cooks and gives foot rubs?
Burning For Her Kiss is well-written, and properly researched to give an accurate account of the BDSM lifestyle. If you like steamy scenes, you won’t be left disappointed either. Hayes gives you the goods with this novel. Hot kisses, UST-building teasing, and explosive bondage scenes await. More than that, however, it is the story of two people coming to terms with who they are and what they want out of life.

Author Bio
Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.
At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.
Nearly eight years later, Sherri is the author of eight full-length novels, and two short stories. Writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. You can find a current list of all of Sherri’s books and sign up for her monthly newsletter at www.sherrihayesauthor.com.

After losing her husband unexpectedly, Katrina Mayer decided to open Serpent’s Kiss. She wanted it to be a place where she and her fellow kinksters could play and socialize.
Five years after the doors opened, the club is everything she’d hoped it would be. On Friday and Saturday nights, Serpent’s Kiss is filled with men and women who share a similar desire to explore the pleasures BDSM has to offer. The club has continued to grow, and over the years, many of its members have become friends.
The one thing Katrina didn’t expect when she’d decided to open a club was the human drama that came with it. Learning to balance her life as the club mistress has taken some getting used to, but she wouldn’t change a thing.

t1 The night was young and Tyler asked me to stop by the club. I knew I was going to see her and I thought tonight would be the perfect moment to talk to her. For some reason, the idea of interacting with her made me nervous. My whole body transformed into a whirlwind of anxiety and excitement. There was a possibility that she would reject me but I had my ways of seducing a woman. I was going to give everything I had.The music of the club was so loud that I could hear everything from my car. My hands were moist and trembling. I had never reacted this way for a girl, not even for a first date. This woman had gotten under my skin. As soon as I was inside, my eyes immediately searched for her and she was looking at me as Tyler welcomed me in. I could see the surprise in her eyes. Tyler wanted to talk about some legal questions he had. I was his unofficial lawyer, free of charge. Working in a firm wasn’t my thing, but I still got a kick out of helping and sharing my knowledge. All this talking had taken time away from my plan to speak with her. I watched her for a couple of minutes and she seemed to be having a great time. Her smile, her eyes and her sex appeal, I liked everything about her.''Can I get you anything?'' she asked, taking the mess off the counter. I hesitated. Do I ask for a drink or not? Do I ask her out? No, no that’s too soon. If I do that, I’ll just scare her away.''A smile. Give me one and I guarantee you’ll get the biggest tip tonight.'' Really, Levi? That’s all you got?''You don’t want a drink? How about some water??'' She blushed. My words had surprised her, but she kept on rolling with her job. She was good at controlling her emotions but I knew there was something there.''No, just a smile. You're the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and I’d be satisfied with a smile.'' I ran my hand through my hair getting nervous about what her reaction would be to this. She didn’t say anything back but she gave me a smile. Not just a tiny one, a freaking loving smile. Fuck, that girl was beautiful. Her name tag said Phoenix, and I was thankful that I had the time to look before leaving. I didn’t want to stay longer. My goal was to leave her questioning herself. Walking away now seemed like the best idea.''Thank you, Princess. You just made my night.'' I said over my shoulder. Her eyes burned holes into my shirt and my heart threatened to escape from my ribcage. The sound of her voice resonated into my mind and the sight of her beautiful lips haunted my mind.Phoenix didn’t know it yet but soon, she would be mine.
