Humanoid Horror: What Are People Seeing Out There?

The stuff nightmares are made of, and it's real life. Tall thin humans howling like wolves, pale white humanoids and an occasional glimmering entity. What have you seen?
I recently found the following personal encounter accounts on social media:

"I’ve heard of many humanoid creatures/legends, but this one has me stumped. The last time I visited home, my 60 year old stepfather shared this experience he supposedly had quite a while ago but had never shared before. Since then I’ve thought about it quite a bit, and I get the most chilling feeling. I also want to mention that my stepdad is a very stoic, no-nonsense, extremely intelligent, logical person. Hearing this from him shocked me. Here’s his story:

My parents live in Southern Maryland. One day around dusk my stepdad was driving home from work along a highway that is lined by forests not far from our home. While driving he saw two tall, pale, slender figures emerge from the forest. He said they looked at least 8 feet tall, and that their bodies appeared to be exoskeletons. As he drove by he said that one of them looked at the car, and he felt as if it was looking at him right in the eye. When he looked in the rear view mirror they were quickly retreating to the forest.

What the hell did he see? Is there any lore to back this up?" JK

:A few years back my boyfriend was on his job site and he called me late explaining that he had seen something that looked like it was trying to “cloak” itself but failing to. Kind of glitching in a way. It was near a hedge and he told me he could clearly see the outline of what appeared to be a human figure. He said it was there and then it was gone almost as soon as he looked away.

I have had recurring dreams of see through, or “mirror people” that have become unsettling and stressful to the point I don’t want to sleep and this has only been happening recently (last 2 months) They are all basically the same. I’m in the river near my home, surrounded by these beings or creatures, and I feel very vulnerable and scared. It’s so realistic it’s almost like a lucid dream or OBE. Very strange and happens weekly.

The topping that made me want to post, is that last night my boyfriend has seen this weird translucent thing again after years of not seeing it or thinking of it. Now, I haven’t told him about my dreams and still don’t plan to just yet so I find this timing to be so odd and a bit frightening. I’m a HUGE believer in almost all other worldly things so I’m a bit on edge.

He said it was by our back hedge against the fence, and there was a clear outline of where it was standing. He said it glimmered and it’s body kind of waved, he described it as looking at a reflection of our hedge in water. He has been backing up slowly from it and when he glanced away for a second it was gone. He then came into the room and woke me up and I’ll admit he looked really concerned and a bit terrified, and he’s not one to really believe in these things.

Has anyone had any experiences or have heard of this? I’ve found one article with a google search of a few witness accounts of almost identical creatures but nothing substantial. I’m very curious about this and am dying to figure out what it could be." ES

"So I live in an apartment, northern Michigan, and this happened ten years ago. It was early summer, my pug dog woke me at around 2 am to go out to potty. While I'm standing out with him as he does his business, I notice that a neighbor across the way was having a party, but the sounds were muffled as their windows must've been closed. I found this odd, it was a weeknight, and surprised their neighbors weren't complaining of the noise. There was a group of 5 people standing across in the parking lot, I thought nothing of it until I realized these people were really tall. And thin. So tall and thin that it wasn't normal at all, so of course I was staring in their direction. They noticed my staring and four of them bolted to the right into darkness, while the other ran to the left running behind a building, and under a street light and I could see it very well. Not only super tall and skinny, but ran unnaturally fast and awkward. Then I heard what sounded like a wolf howl. And as they dispersed, the "party sound" immediately stopped. Of course pug and I ran back inside and locked the door. I've witnessed many paranormal events and have no problem sharing details with others, but not this event. It was too odd. I still have no clue what that was." AS

Dogman / Cryptid Canids in New Mexico's Four Corners

For many years Jc Johnson described several types of canid cryptids that roamed the Four Corners. The following personal account offers a possibility that these creatures may be more than flesh & blood.
In May 2012, Jc Johnson of Crypto Four Corners posted a video titled Wes and the Wolfens. After watching the video I left a message for Jc to contact me. Well, in a few minutes, Jc was calling back. He explained that this video from 2008 had been lost and recently found. He added updated information in the beginning and at the end of the presentation.

I was interested in Wes' sighting of a 'dogman' creature in a residential section of Farmington, NM., as well as the smaller wolf-like animal he encountered while playing in a field in the Four Corners area. Wes' description of the 'dogman' was somewhat similar to those sightings in Michigan and Wisconsin as described by researcher/author Linda Godfrey. At the time, Linda and Jc confided that they believe these particular creatures are natural and terrestrial. I have, for the most part, leaned towards the interdimensional 'side of the fence.' Though I am open for all arguments.

Jc explained that the Four Corners has had a variety of canid sightings (natural and supernatural) other than the typical foxes, dogs, jackals, and coyotes. NOTE: any wolf sighting in the area would be remarkable in itself since the species was hunted out over a century ago.

A Skinwalker is a person (witch) with the supernatural ability to turn into any animal he or she desires, though they first must be wearing a pelt of the animal, to be able to transform. These are commonly described as wolf-like beings though it can be shapeshifted as any past or present indigenous animal. I have previously posted several first-hand accounts at Skinwalker Chronicles

The Weir is similar to a lycanthrope, a supposed mythological or folkloric human with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf-like creature. Whether the change is made on purpose or the result of an affliction is unknown. The difference between the Skinwalker and the Weir, in my opinion, is little more than interpretation. Those people who have witnessed these creatures tend to place a distinction between them.

Dire Wolves are classified as an extinct carnivorous mammal closely related to the smaller extant gray wolf. Some of the modern sighting reports are of huge wolves with varied markings, some as big as an average sized horse. The American Alsatian was bred to resemble the ancient Dire Wolf in many respects, but the sightings tend to be of a much larger canid. Are these natural or supernatural beings?

The Dogman is an enigma, basically because all the evidence has been anecdotal to this point. There have been legends, hoaxes and everything else in between. Most of the information that is available can be found at Linda Godfrey's blog and in her writings. As I stated earlier, I tend to believe these are interdimensional beings. Jc mentioned an interesting tidbit to me. Though the Dogman's strong back legs are like those of a canid there have been reports of a 'spur-like' appendage at the back of the foot that gives this creature a tripod structure in which to stand.

Jc also talked about a particular sighting from a few years ago on the Navajo lands in the Four Corners. The witnesses stated that their sheep and goats had been let out to graze during the day. When the herd started to return early they were concerned that something was amiss. When they conducted an inventory, one sheep and one goat were missing. The witnesses climbed into their vehicle and drove to the grazing area.

When they arrived, the carcasses of the sheep and goat were located, though there was very little left other than spines and skulls. On a distant rise the witnessed could clearly make out the shape of a large canid standing on two legs. There was also a much smaller juvenile canid accompanying the adult. The fact that there were multiple witnesses, it was daylight and that there were defleshed carcasses tends to give the 'natural' argument some leverage.

I first heard the word Wolfen after reading Whitley Strieber's 1978 novel The Wolfen in which a New York City cop investigates a series of brutal deaths that resemble animal attacks. So, what is a Wolfen? In the book, the Wolfen was a superior predator, not a spirit. Though there could have been a supernatural aspect to it. Basically, the Wolfen was a mystery.

NOTE: Research and investigation of upright canines / dogman has become more widespread since the time this article was originally posted. Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research continues to track these cryptids throughout the state of Pennsylvania and beyond. Lon

Bigfoot Observed While Fishing at Lake Barkley, Kentucky

The last thing you expect to see while spending a quiet day fishing is a Bigfoot moving about on the shoreline and throwing rocks. A Kentucky native describes her frightening encounter in April 2001.

"Hi Lon,

I currently live in southern Illinois with my husband. I grew up in rural Lyon County, Kentucky and at home in the woods and around the water. My Dad and I spent many weekends fishing.

One early April 2001 morning, when I was 14, we pulled the boat out of the slip and headed south into Lake Barkley. It was an extremely overcast day with a heavy fog. In fact, we almost cancelled that day. About an hour after we moved into the river, the sun broke through the clouds and the fog started to lift, so Dad said he wanted to try out the brush piles in one of the shallow bays off the Land Between the Lakes area.

Dad pulled in into one of the bays and dropped anchor. We then started fishing off the brush piles. I can remember that we were landing crappies and were having a very good morning.

After an hour things slowed down, so we decided to have some lunch. We sat in the boat eating about 100 ft from shore. I think it was close to noon, but I'm not positive.

We had finished eating and Dad started to pull the anchor when we heard a loud splash. We looked towards the brush pile and, again, there was a large and loud splash. Dad thought someone was throwing rocks, so he said that we needed find another location. We started to pull off towards the main lake, when I happened to catch a look at a man walking along the shore after it walked from behind the brush pile. Then I noticed that this was not a man because it had hair over it's entire body. It was a Bigfoot. I yelled at Dad and he looked as I pointed towards it. He cut the motor off and we sat there watching the Bigfoot throw rocks into the water. It looked like it was trying to hit something.

We watched for several minutes as the Bigfoot moved in and out of the brush on shore. Dad wanted to get closer so he could take a picture on his phone, but I was scared and begged him to leave. The water was shallow and I was afraid it would get mad and attack us. He tried to get a photo, but for some reason the phone wasn't working correctly. We then noticed that there was smaller boat heading towards us. There was a man on the motor. As he came near, he cut the motor and looked towards the Bigfoot. He definitely saw it because he looked back at us with a surprised look on his face.

Dad was alarmed and said that we're leaving. By this time, he was upset that someone else had seen us observing the Bigfoot. He recognized the man in the boat. My Dad was well-known in the area and he was worried what would happened if his name was associated with a Bigfoot sighting.

When we got home that evening, we told Mom what we saw. She was upset as well. That's as far as the story went. I was told to never tell anyone what we had seen because it would create problems. I told the story to my husband not long after we were married. His reaction was favorable and he has showed interest in what we saw. I guess we can refer to ourselves as Bigfoot enthusiasts.

That's my story. I wish to remain anonymous, mostly because of my parents' fears of ridicule. Thanks for reading." DE

NOTE: I contacted DE in order to get a description of the Bigfoot. She states that it was about 6 1/2 to 7 ft tall and very broad in the shoulders. The hair was very thick and dark brown. She could not estimate a weight. I asked if it was bipedal the entire time she observed it, which she acknowledged. She believes that they viewed the Bigfoot for almost 10 minutes, which I believe is remarkable. DE was not aware of the supernatural lore of the area, particularly the Beast of the Land Between the Lakes. Lon

Small Living 'T-Rex' Dinosaur Sightings in South Texas

Small T-Rex cryptids have been reported in south Texas in the past. These particular accounts, each forwarded by the witnesses to me, best describe the phenomenon. What do you think is going on?
A few weeks ago on Arcane Radio, Ken Gerhard and I were discussing the 'small T-Rex' phenomenon reported in south Texas. I received several requests to repost these accounts:

Hello Lon - A couple of months ago in summer, my friend actually saw a small dinosaur here in town, on a main street! It was evening when she saw it, probably around 8:45 pm. She was driving and noticed the dinosaur cross the street! She saw the shape clearly as it passed another cars headlights on the opposite side. She said oddly that the other car didn't seem to notice as the creature passed. She tried to call me but her phone was out of minutes.

Just a couple months before I had actually heard a creature I could only describe as a dinosaur. I had been asleep, it was night, maybe around 1 or 2 am. I had awoken and just at that moment I heard an unfamiliar screech of something running by my window. We have an AC unit in the window so the window is basically open. I heard its footsteps as it ran by and it was heavy whatever it was. I could hear it clearly on the ground. As it ran further away I could hear it screech again! It was like nothing I've ever heard in my life! It was loud too and I wonder if anyone else heard it or saw it. I live in an apartment complex. I just laid there in bed completely bewildered by what I had just heard. I questioned my sanity and if I had heard what I thought I heard. So when my friend saw the "dinosaur" she was excited and wanted to tell me because of what I heard. I'm only sad I didn't get to see it too. We both questioned our sanity. Hello - I noticed your article about small dinosaurs in Hebbronville, Texas. This witness was not exaggerating because I have seen an unknown animal in a field here in Hebbronville.

It was April 2011 and I was walking along W. David St. to my friend's house on Randada Rd. at about 5:45 PM. I had just gotten off work. On the side of the road where I was walking, I saw dust being kicked up into the air and moving along the field. Then the trail of dust was heading toward the road in front of me. I stopped walking not knowing what may be exiting at the road.

About 40 ft. in front of me was what I can only describe as a little T-Rex dinosaur, about 2-2 1/2 ft in height. It didn't stop running as it dashed across the road into a smaller field. It was light reddish brown, stood on two legs and had a long tail that was straight out as it ran. There is no way that this was a lizard known to live here. It looked very much like the photo of the toy I found online.

No one wanted to believe me. My friends and family think I mistook it for another lizard, but I know what I saw.

Until I read your article, I thought I may be going crazy. I do believe there are very strange creatures around here. My ex-husband used to talk about huge birds and walking shadows that he and others would see on a ranch south of Hebbronville. At one point several cattle would go missing without a trace. He would never stay there at night.

Hello Sir - this morning I was told by my neighbor that you had received reports of small T-Rex dinosaurs seen in Hebbronville, TX. and you mentioned it on a radio show. I live near Falfurrias, TX which is about 18 miles east of Hebbronville. I and others have seen those creatures. My neighbor and I saw a pair in December 2012 on the roadway behind our houses. We were scared to report our sighting. I know other people in this area have seen the same creatures.

A family member from Sabinas Hidalgo in Mexico told me that he saw a 'big lizard' the last time he visited us. He saw it while he was driving near McAllen, TX. He described the same thing we have seen. It was 2-3 ft. tall with a large head and long tail. It ran on 2 legs and was very dark in color. The two creatures we saw were dark brown and walking quickly on 2 legs also. It was about 4:30 pm and we watched them for about 20 seconds as they moved towards the dead end of the road. We got a very good look. For a few nights after that, we heard short shrills coming from the brush at the end of the road.

A couple of weeks later, my son told me that he and his friends found many quail feathers and deer bones scattered by a tree in the same brush. I did contact a wildlife authority about the remains but didn't mention what we had seen. He said that it was probably coyotes, though I have not heard or seen coyotes for long time. Another neighbor lost a dog about the same time. Again coyotes were said to be the predator. No remains were ever found. My husband was alarmed and had a high heavy duty steel link fence built around the yard so that our grandchildren and pets are safe.

My neighbor said that she thought these may be Chupacabras, which I did not believe in. I don't know now what to think now. Do you think these are real dinosaurs or maybe a Chupacabras? Our dog (Rottweiler) has been acting strange lately. He acts calm and fearless sometimes, but hides and whines other times. This always happens at night. I think these creatures are around again. LM

Alien Being Killed by Rancher After Cattle Mutilations

After a night of cattle mutilations, a rancher decides to guard the herd. During an abduction attempt, an alien being is killed and then preserved in a jar. Whatever became of this specimen?

Hi Lon - In 1986, my Dad and his sister owned a cattle ranch in northern Puerto Rico. One morning, after finding several head of cattle mutilated under strange circumstances, Dad decided to guard the ranch during the night armed with a rifle, along with myself (I was 15 at the time) and two of his friends.

A few nights later we noticed movement about 100 metres east of us. There were five short grayish beings with very large heads emerging from the ravine and approaching the cattle. The beings quickly entered one of the pens and proceeded to float a calf out. The floating calf was very close to the ground and the beings walked alongside it in a shuffling manner.

At that point, Dad and his friends began firing at the creatures. One of the beings seemed to be hit and fell to the ground shrieking loudly. The calf also fell to the ground while the other beings assisted their wounded companion who was writhing in obvious pain. The men fired again on the beings who then ran quickly into the woods leaving the injured being behind. The wounded being attempted to run away but was shot in the back by my Dad's friend. It lay silently on the ground dying. My Dad then struck it on the head with the rifle butt caving in the top of the head. It died very shortly.

Pictures of the dead alien being were taken and hidden away. My Dad preserved the body in a large jar filled with alcohol and formaldehyde. He stored it in the cellar of our home and told me to never mention it to my Mother and siblings. I remember seeing it several more times after the incident.

In 1999, my Dad suddenly passed away. His friends think he was killed by the beings since he disappeared for several days before his burned body was found in a remote area. I do feel that my Dad's death was related to the beings we witnessed that strange night.

The body of the being is supposedly being kept by one of my Dad's friends who fears the local and US authorities would somehow prosecute him for his involvement in killing it. I now live in Texas and, honestly, I hope I never see that body again - though I do believe it should be disclosed that it exists. JG

Possible Alien Abduction

I was walking home from school about 3:30 or 4:00 in the afternoon sometime in 1955. I was ten years old. I saw a large sort of cigar shaped aircraft in the sky south of my house moving north. It was fatter than a cigar, moved silently and has window along the center of the side facing me.

It hovered over me and I felt a strange sensation. Later I assumed that I had been probed.

When the sensation passed I ran to my house to tell my mother what I had seen but by the time I got there I couldn't remember any of it. Some of it came back to me in the next few days, but by then I was sure that anyone I told would think I was nuts so I kept it to myself.

I never heard of anyone else having seen what I saw that day. There was nothing in the paper and none of the kids at school talked about it. It was years before I mentioned it to anyone. Then when I went to a MUFON convention. There was a speaker who had a drawing of the aircraft I had seen and it freaked me out so bad I decided to do a hypnotic regression to find out what had happen that day.

In the regression I discovered that the aircraft was searching for children who had not yet had any of the usual childhood diseases and because I had they removed my memory of their probe and moved on looking for others who met their criteria. I have no idea what would have happened if I had not already had measles and chickenpox. I didn't hear anything about children disappearing or anyone with lost time.

It was all very strange and I still feel uncomfortable when I talk about it even now. RM

Bizarre, Frightening Humanoid Encounter at Home

A series of events leads to an encounter with an unknown humanoid at the witness' home. Was it a 'Rake?' Or possibly a 'Wendigo?' The lack of aggression seems to suggest neither. Read the account for yourself.

An experience from the the past and something that happened tonight that scared the sh*t out of me. Sorry if some of what I write doesn’t make sense because my adrenaline is through the roof because my fight or flight instincts are going nuts.

For a few months now something weird has been hanging around and outside my house. The first time it became apparent was one night I was in the basement. Outside the window is a porch and there is a light switch for the lights by the door. I went upstairs for a bit when I realized later I left the lights on, so I went downstairs to turn them off. When I came down the porch lights were on. Now my father has tried endlessly to hook them to a timer with no success. I assumed that he had finally figured it out and paid the lights no mind. What I hadn’t know was my dad had given up weeks ago and put in an average light switch. Next morning I go down and see the lights are still on. I assume the timer didn’t work so I go to shut them off, and the discover to my shock it’s a switch. This causes me to panic a bit because that meant someone had been out there while the rest of my family was asleep last night and quite likely they could have been watching me.

A few weeks later I’m sitting downstairs on the couch. I’m home alone, it’s dead of night and my dog. Suddenly she perks up and looks to the window. out of habit I look with her and see something hunched and white dropping down over our fence and run past the windows. Thanks to the dirty windows and the glare of the lights I couldn’t even hope to make out what I saw or how big it was but I yelped panicked and called my buddies. They were skeptical and told me it was probably a raccoon and I ended up agreeing.

I went outside with my dogs, an older chocolate lab and my German puggle (German Shepard/Pug/Beagle mix) the one who had been with me. I went out trying to see what it was. Right away my dogs had two very different reactions. The Lab was pacing, sniffing and looking around and being very anxious. The other was wagging her tail and looking at the trees the way she does when I have treats. Suddenly from said trees I hear a loud groan. These are big strong old trees and they don’t groan, not unless something is on them. I ended up going inside cause my Puggle was moving between the trees with the same look while my Lab seemed to be getting increasingly anxious but now was staying away from the trees and just watching them. I wasn’t seeing anything. But all night I heard weird things. The worst was a loud slam. it was like a tree branch had fallen but there was nothing there. My Puggle kept going to windows and acting unhappy about being kept in. But the rest was like the sound of something on the roof, pebbles being thrown at the window, and the return of a woodpecker who should have been dead after my cats got the poor thing with a vengeance.

It's been a couple of months since that incident and I have mostly forgotten about it. Occasionally I'll hear something weird on the front porch or footsteps or the porch lights will get turned on mysteriously. But these are small things. Tonight I was with my sister and face timing with a friend in the basement, when we hear a screeching sound. I run to the window in the next room where I believe I'll be able to see whatever it is from a safe distance. But I instead let out a scream and a flurry of curse words. Outside standing taller than me for sure (I'm 6 ft) was a gaunt white humanoid figure with its back turned to the window. When I got back to the window and looked back out it was nowhere to be seen. I at first thought it was my mind playing tricks on me. There was snow on the ground and I was dying for a rational explanation because it scared me. I was shaking. I told my sister and she laughed at me.

I went upstairs later that night and got everything ready for the night and locked up. When I went back up front I froze. I could see my cat, who seemed agitated, on the garage roof looking at something on my porch. That something was the same white figure with its back turned again except this time it was squatting and looking at my cat. It didn't seem confrontational itself. But then for God sakes, this sent me into tears. It turned its whole body (twisted) and it seemed to kind of straighten as it did. I can only think of a meerkat as an example. But it was so sudden I was sure I heard bones crack through the window. I never saw the face. As soon as it turned my flight or flight kicked in and ran into my room as fast as I could. The last thing I saw of it, as I slammed my door, was it on the railing as it leaped towards what I assume was the nearby tree.

Ever since then I've been my room shaking and wheezing in a hysterical fit. I like paranormal stuff but it's hard when you are experiencing it. Now, that I calmed down enough to type I've been thinking about its actions (and back to the previous events). I'm trying to explain this to myself. I at first drew a comparison to the 'Rake' creature. But this thing seemed calm and relaxed most the time. I don't know what I saw and it's freaking me out. JP

NOTE: I suspect that fear played into these events, but I have no doubt an unexplained entity was present. Corporeal or a manifesting energy is the real question. Lon

Bigfoot / Upright Canine Activity Increasing in Northeast Pennsylvania

It's become apparent that northeast Pennsylvania has become more active over the past few years. Bigfoot and upright canine activity has substantially increased. The following accounts were recently posted on social media. The Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research team is in search for a reliable and seasoned cryptid investigator in this part of the state. I thought I'd post this on the odd chance that someone else in the Jackson / Susquehanna / New Milford /NEPA (NorthEast Pennsylvania) area had similar experiences. My brother-in-law - my wife's brother - lives basically in the woods. There are other homes nearby but you really can't see them at all when the leaves are on the trees. If you look at a map, look at the area between Susquehanna and Jackson. That's where he is. There's a large State Game Land 35. He told us - if I've got the story right - that he saw the head a figure peer in the back window, and it banged on - hit- the back wall of the house with, presumably, it's hand. The thing is, the back window is up high, like 8'+ high because there's a good 3-4' crawl space under the house there. And the spot he heard the bang was up higher than that, probably 10' or more. So it couldn't have been a human. The creature must have been close to 8' tall. He's a guy that likes a good-hearted joke but he's not a prankster, and if he did pull our legs about it, he would have come clean shortly after. He's a serious guy mostly, so for him to tell this story seriously and stick to it - I believe he had an experience. RN

My best friends dad told me a story about an encounter he had as a young man around NEPA, if I remember correctly it was out by Camp Acahela or in that general vicinity.

He and some buddies went out on a camping trip one weekend to fish. They were following a utility line cut through the woods and they saw an old refrigerator on the ground. For whatever reason, some of them decided to pee on it. They got to their camping spot a while later, set up and had a fire before heading to bed.

At some point in the middle of the night, he was woken up by what he described to me as the scariest sound he's ever heard, something that started as a super low howl that transitioned into a long scream. What scared him the most was how close whatever this thing was sounded. He's an avid hunter, has spent a lot of time in the woods of NEPA and has never heard a sound even remotely similar since.

They woke up the next morning and every single one of them heard the sound but was too afraid to get up and see what it was. The rest of their trip was uneventful until the walk out when they passed the old refrigerator that they had all peed on, except now, it was all the way off the ground and stuck in a nook of a tree.

Just theorizing of course, but maybe whatever it was took the scent of their urine as an attempt at marking territory and was pissed because of it.

Take it with a grain of salt, of course. I trust this guy but I wasn't there to see it myself. My brother was a scout at Acahela though and he's heard talk about bigfoot in the area, and it wouldn't surprise me at all cause that area is pretty remote. FS

I’m from Montrose, and I’ve spent a lot of time in the State Game Lands 35 in Hallstead (for those that don’t know, it’s 7772 acres of untouched land) and have had a number of those silent moments where not even the creeks or birds are making noise for some reason. I’ve never seen anything really mysterious but over years of hunting and hiking in those game lands, I have zero doubt that there’s plenty of room for literally any cryptids to live comfortably without human intervention.

I’ll add that I have seen and heard things that were super disconcerting, but nothing I can identify as legitimately a possible Sasquatch. Even carrying some pretty powerful guns and hunting black bears, there have been some moments, especially before the sun comes up, when I’ve been seriously convinced something was following me. It’s got the same scary mystery that the ocean does. JB

Cape Winged Humanoid Encountered Near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport

I recently received a telephone call from an eyewitness who stated that he and and his son observed a cape winged humanoid in Bensenville, Illinois
The eyewitness 'Brian' said that one evening in August 2006 he and his adult son were sitting on the back porch of his home in Bensenville, Illinois. This location is a village that borders the southwest edge of O'Hare International Airport.

The eyewitness' neighbor has a large pine tree in the adjacent yard. Both Brian and his son were looking in that direction when a large dark being quickly 'dropped' to the ground from the tree and grabbed a squirrel with its talons. The squirrel was literally screaming during the attack. The dark being then quickly jettisoned up into the tree. Both witnesses could hear the being moving up the tree, but neither caught sight of it again.

Brian described the humanoid as having strong and long 'grasshopper-like' legs with muscular thighs. It seemed to have cape-like wings that were wrapped around the body. These wings were never unfurled. He estimates the height of the humanoid at 6 ft or so. There was no distinct head or eyes, but the overall size and form was too large to be any bird that the longtime resident has ever seen or heard described. Both witnesses were shocked at what they had seen. I asked about not getting a photo, which I was told that the event happened so quickly that they never had a chance to do so.

The witness decided to come forward after his elderly mother in Wisconsin read about the Chicago sightings and urged him to contact me.

I believe that this is the first report to definitely state that one of these winged humanoids actually attacked an animal. This is also one of the better descriptions of the legs and talons on these beings.

2 Recent Bigfoot Sightings Claimed by Arkansas Man

I recently spoke to an eyewitness in Arkansas who claims to have had 2 separate Bigfoot sightings at 2 different locations during the past 2 years
'JW' states that in October 2019 he and his wife were in the market for property. They were in Faulkner County, Arkansas and driving on Plum Creek Rd. JW was the front seat passenger.

Several hundred feet in front of them 2 large dark figures cross the road. JW said that it looked like a large 8 ft. (possible female) Bigfoot accompanied by a 5-6 ft juvenile. Both were across the road in 3-4 paces. Their coloring was black. They continued driving for a few more minutes, when his wife (the driver) commented, 'Did I just see what I thought I saw?' She had questioned JW's earlier sighting. Now she had seen it for herself.

His earlier incident occurred near Mount Holly, Arkansas in Union County in October 2017 while deer hunting. This was a location JW was very familiar with. He states that he was sitting along the creek bank one early morning while watching a game trail. Then suddenly a 7 ft black hairy being crossed in front of his shooting lane. JW mentioned that the Bigfoot was moving swiftly and that he was impressed with the immense size, especially the width of the shoulders.

The BFRO has 1 reported incident listed from Faulkner Co., AR and 4 reported sightings in Union Co., AR.

My Experiences With Gnomes

"When I was about ten years old, I went on a drive with my parents into the English countryside to a place called Camberley in Surrey. We were going to lunch with Mum's long time friend Jill & husband Harry, and we met them on the way at a country pub for pre-lunch drinks.

As children my brother and I were allowed to go around to the back garden and we sipped lemonade and ate crisps, then the adults brought their drinks outside. The garden of this pub had a row of handmade miniature houses at the bottom of the garden. Each one had its own pathway, gate and door. I wandered over to take a closer look, and to my utmost surprise, the doors of these tiny houses opened and a small gnome exited from each one, and came to talk to me.

One, in a red hat, was leaning on his garden rake chattering away. I can't remember what they spoke to me about, but the vision of them has never left me. Of course when I walked back to tell my parents I just received a pat on the head, and my Mum said 'that's nice dear"!

I had another experience when I came to Australia in the early 1980s. My partner and I visited a tea-room during winter in the mountains. They had a lovely garden but no flowers were out anywhere and the wind was quite cold.

All of a sudden, I saw a small gnome with my inner vision and he started talking to me. "Let me show you my flowers I look after" he said. Again, looking around I could see only stalks and bare rose bushes. Anyway, I followed him along a pathway and then he turned a corner. There, just around the bed was a small bush with beautiful white perfumed flowers on - and no other flowers in sight ! he was very proud of his flowers and bush and thanked me for allowing him to show me. We also had a gnome called Tom in our backyard in Sydney who used to pop up now and again giving suggestions to help different plants.

So, that is my experiences with Gnomes, and they are just gorgeous!" Trudie

Fortean Feature: Recollections of the 'Pontianak'

The 'Fortean Feature' series will highlight the readers' favorite and most read posts from the past 15 years on 'Phantoms & Monsters.' Each featured post will be updated to include new information that is relevant to the subject.

I offer a few archived Pontianak reports that I have accumulated over the years. In Indonesian and Malayan folklore, the 'Pontianak' are women who died during childbirth and became 'undead,' then seeking revenge and terrorizing the living.

"Towards the end of my national (Singapore) service, my service support group was sent in to the new SyangKong Camp to prepare stores for the in-coming battalion for their reservice.

I was in charge of 20-odd of them. They were on unfamiliar grounds as most of them did not have full basic military training because of their medical condition.

SyangKong Camp is in the middle of reclaimed Tekong. It sits on a sandy/rocky terrain, flank by rubber plantations. The camp was made up of series of single level barracks spread across the field surrounding a center square. Its big enough to house one full infantry battalion. So our first impression when we reach there was, it was a big and empty camp.

Those 20 odd storeman got down doing their stuff, equipping each barrack with the necessities. Foldable beds, pillows, blankets...the list goes on.

Soon after, once everything is in place, they all got back to their barrack. It was a long barrack with windows on the longer sides and entry at both end. There was a double door and a steel gate on the outside.

It was around 8pm and it was already dark. They were all resting. Listening to their MP3s, squinting their eyes on their PSPs. Some rowdies were playing outside. Taking photos on top of a stationary bulldozer, basically just enjoying the time in the middle of the jungle with no officer to scream at them and with only a sergeant who couldn’t care even if they kill each other.

I was too tired to entertain them. After giving them the last instruction for the day, I dozed off on my bed. Strangely, I dreamed of the exact same barrack that I was in. In my dream I was lying on the exact same bed looking on as my men run around the bunk from end to end in total chaos. They were all terrified. The door was opened but the gate was closed. Soon amidst the chaos, I saw a woman in a white cloak with a long hair. The face was horrible but I can never remember how to describe it.

She was a Pontianak...a classic blood sucking bitch who is apparently dead and alive again to struck shear fear in every Malay's life. (I personally think she’s over-rated, but she got her credentials.)

So that explains why the guys are running around in chaos. ‘She’ was flying above our barrack, circling the roof top, jumping from each end to the other trying to gain entry into the barrack. Only the gate was in her way.

So that was the dream I had. It sounds stupid, didn’t it? But it was scary as it was in the middle of Tekong, and having your brain corrupted by the constant stories of Pontianak since you were young. I woke up in a sweat. It was barely an hour since I dozed off.

The barrack was still lighted. The guys who were on their PSP and MP3 had already dozed off. Those from outside had came in. There was an unusual silence amongst them. The doors were shut. I could sense something was wrong. I turned to my man beside me and told him my dream. He kept quiet and went on to sleep. That night, I tried to put myself to sleep. I managed to after awhile. Unexpectedly, it was a sound sleep.

Next day, the man whom I told the story, told me that while I was sleeping earlier last night, they sighted a Pontianak on top of the bulldozer.

As the battalion came in the next day and continue their training for the week, there were a few other happenings and sightings which was more disturbing."

"This story may sound a bit silly, a bit lame even, but I swear it is true!

My friends and I had decided to watch a movie at the Mall. The movie was “Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam”. Its quite a new movie, maybe you’ve heard of it?

Anyway, the Mall (yes, that’s the name of the shopping complex. Imaginative huh?) is built right in the middle of the a busy commercial district, the town center you might call it. It;s brand new, completed just this year, and as far as I know, no supernatural going-ons have happened in the area.

Anyway, as I was saying, we were watching the “Pontianak” movie, the late night showing. I happened to be at the end furthest from the aisle. The few seats from mine to the wall were all empty.

In the middle of watching the movie, my neck felt stiff. You know how that feels right after staring up at the movie for quite a while? So I stretched out, turning my neck from side-to-side to get rid of the stiffness.

To my shock, the empty seat beside me was no longer empty! There was a lady in a white dress with long black hair sitting there, seemingly absorbed in the movie! I turned back to the movie, frozen in terror.

I couldn’t stand it anymore and was about to go crying to my friend (who was sitting right beside me but didn’t seem to have seen something strange). I glanced back at the extra person, but she was gone! I went crying to my friend anyway. She didn’t believe me, but didn’t mind switching seats with me. Needless to say, I wasn’t very much interested in watching the movie after that. I mean, who needs a movie when you’ve seen the real thing?"

"This happened when I was on the way back home from work. At that point of time, I was working at Boat Quay as a chat operator. So usually we knock off at 3am. My in-law was staying at Tiong Bahru. Sometimes my hubby would fetch me from work and we would walk all the way to my in-law's place. As our normal routine just like when we were still dating, we like to travel by foot (considering its not that tiring to walk to the destination) and talk about lots of things.

Narrow things down, we reach this 4 block area where it's just 4 story high or 5. Can’t clearly remember. Rumors said that the HDB wants to pull it down but now I see that its being made as a rental place.

So before we reach Tiong Bahru Plaza, we will pass by this place. A few metres before we reach this block, (this happen before the HDB carried out the renovation to upgrade this vacant 4 story block. So it's really run down and been years nobody actually live there) I popped a question to my hubby, "Isn’t it scary to look at this building? It's been vacant like years and I’m sure there’s like 'those things' in there..a lot!". Wile talking, my hubby eyes was fixed to the 3rd story of this building. I tap him gently and ask him what is he looking at.

He turned to me and ask me to look straight. "Sorry sayang", he suddenly said. "Why are you apologizing to me"? I ask. He then answered "Thanks to me, now that thing is already at the bushes across the road. Just don’t look now. Just now, that pontianak was at the 3rd story looking at us. Thanks to me looking at her back, she knows that I spotted her and now she is walking the same line as us just that she’s across the road".

I turn my head slowly and fix my eyes right at the bushes. True enough, there is no wind and nothing across the road (it"s just metres away...so near) the bushes are rustling and moving. It seems like someone or something is walking behind or in the bushes parallel with us, following us from the other side. I calm myself down and just walk straight.

I was praying hard that we would reach home quickly but thanks to the shoes that I'm wearing, I have to go slow (it's a new shoe, so yeah). All of the sudden, my hubby grabs my bag and hand, he pulled me and we both ran. I was clueless at that time but in my mind I did have this thought, "is that thing behind me? Chasing us and wanting to kill us?"

We finally reach a bus stop and sat down. Hubby said it's safe. I really needed to sit down after that dash. Being impatient, I ask my hubby to explain why the sudden dash. Hubby insisted that we reach home and talk about it. Back at my in-law's he explains.

"I saw that thing from the 3rd story while you were talking. At first it didn’t see me looking at it. Then the Pontianak spotted me looking at her. So it was like too late for me to pretend that I never saw her at all. I thought that the Pontianak would just stand and look but she suddenly came down and followed us from the other side. The reason I pulled you was she was about to show herself because I saw the Pontianak emerging from the bushes. I saw her white dress and black hair already so I rather we ran than having you see her that close up".

Since then, whenever I pass the building then and now, I never want to look at it. It just reminds me of the incident. Even now, since the renovation, trying to walk past the building at night, I walk at the back of the building. Who knows what you may see or even meet."

"This guy named Ismail was returning home from his cousin's house as it was during the Hari Raya. I think it was 2 years ago. His cousin's house was in Yishun and he was heading to Pasir Ris that where he lived. While riding along Punggol, he was feeling strange all of a sudden. He continued to ride until there was a Malaysian plated motorcycle. When they were side by side, this old Malaysian guy turned to him and then speed faster. Ismail didn't care and just kept on riding until he was again riding side by side with a old man. He was riding a Vespa motorcyle. The old man turn to look at Ismail and again the old man speed faster. Ismail thought that he wanted to race.

After a few minutes, he looked at his side mirror as he felt as if there was someone riding behind him. He look at the mirror and saw a white dress. He again looked at the mirror and saw a woman with long black hair and then it strikes him that there was evil riding behind him. Ismail says “I did not disturb you and you please...do not disturb me”. He was in total fear!

When he reach a junction at Pasir Ris, he was getting ready to stop at a red light. This 'thing' pulled near and began to laughed. Ismail didn't care weather it was a red or green light, he just sped off until he reached home. Without even taking the key and parking at the correct spot, he rushed to his house. Reaching his house, he tells his elder brother what happened. His brother said he was lying.

They both get on their motorcycles together...Ismail rode behind his elder brother. When they see the motorcycle, the Pontianak was sitting and smiling at them. Ismail scolded his elder brother for not believing him. His brother quickly shouted prayers and the 'thing' was gone. Ismail rushed back home leaving his brother alone.

When the brother reached his way home, he scolded Ismail for leaving him alone, "what if the thing attacked me." Beware riding your motorcycle alone at night."

"One Friday night, all of my friends and I are chatting at a nearby coffee shop. It was a boring night, one of my friends suggested we go clubbing at Boat Quay but we ignored his suggestion. I suggested to have some fun with the spirits as it was the HUNGRY GHOST FESTIVAL.

We planned the things that we needed, e.g joss sticks, candles, apples and a comb. We proceeded to the destination planned. Upon reaching, we set up all the things we bought. The candles were used to make a pentagram and we put the joss stick around us. Together there were 6 of us including one girl. We were suppose to sit at every end of the pentagram and one person in the middle. The girl sat in the middle and she was supposed to comb her hair while chanting some spell.

It`s almost midnight and we started to chant the spell my friend taught us. After a few minutes nothing happen. I started to feel that its a waste of our time. I got up and kicked all the candles and joss sticks, and walk away. Suddenly it happened. The girl who was combing her hair started to scream. She ran towards me and started to bite me. At first I thought she playing around but she wasn’t. My friends tried to pull her away from me but to no avail. Then she released me and started to say words that we could not understand. My friend who is a religious type, started to chant some prayers and the possessed girl started to scream again. The screams then began to fade and she fainted. All of us then witnessed a white object flying above the bushes behind us. We became alarmed, picked up the fainted girl and ran away to the nearest HDB block. From there we went back to our home.

I told my mother about the incident...she was so mad that the slap me on the face. She said that I had disturbed the resting place of a PONTIANAK. I swear to myself not play with spirits again. As for the girl she knew nothing about what had happened to her.

This really happened at Serangoon Park Connector."

 

‘Pontianaks’ or vampires are basically the most notorious group of paranormal entities and their popularity is evident through their portrayals in horror films and fiction movies. In this story, Ahmad, a man in his mid-twenties, claims to have encountered these strange entities while driving home from Tutong Town. This unfortunate incident triggered months of restlessness and paranoia but yet here, he recalls the sequence of events leading up to that fateful night as he faced his worst nightmare.

Driving down the highway, Ahmad tried to adjust his focus and eyes on the road as fatigue and lethargy took control of his body. The long working hours at his new job had taken its toll and left him practically exhausted. After several failed attempts to keep himself awake, Ahmad finally gave in and decided to stop at the side of the road to get some shuteye before continuing his journey. As he turned to make a stop, his eyes caught sight of a strange looking ‘object’ in the middle of the road that seemed to resemble a log but simply shrugged it off as nothing out of the ordinary. However, as Ahmad peered closer at the weird object, he could make up some facial features but it was too dark to tell whether his imagination was beginning to run wild. Despite the warning which echoed in his mind to ‘run away’, he simply refused to steer clear of whatever was on that road.

Curiosity got the better of him and he took out a torch light out of the glove compartment to investigate what it really was. As Ahmad approached the ‘object’, it laid so disturbingly still as if waiting to strike. He suddenly stood frozen in his tracks as the ‘mysterious object’ lifted its head slowly in his direction and let out an ear-piercing cry. Fear overtook the very core of Ahmad’s mind and he knew instantly what the ’strange’ object was. He struggled to summon his inner strength to face the terror staring him right in the eye. “This was something that you could only see in horror films,” Ahmad said. He watched the terror unfold as the paranormal entity, commonly known as ‘pontianaks’ to the locals, crawled to the side of the road and began creeping towards a lamp post. Within split seconds, it swiftly moved towards him and all he could do was recite prayers to ward off the spirit. The ‘pontianak’ stared at him intently before disappearing into thin air. The memory of such a disturbing image, till this day, seems difficult to erase and has changed his philosophy on the existence of paranormal entities.

“I think it’s a good idea to share my experience with fellow readers on this issue. Whether they choose to believe it or not, is of course up to them. However, this is not something you simply make up. It took me quite a while to try and forget this horrifying incident but I decided to instead use it as a lesson in life,” he said before concluding his story.

Legends of old have it that an individual who possesses a fragile spirit will most likely encounter supernatural entities and although no evidence of such a claim exists, some have unfortunately experienced it firsthand for reasons they cannot phantom. This story revolves around an American expatriate who was kind enough to share his ordeal before leaving the country for good.

David loved Brunei and considered it as his second home. He even planned to settle down with his then fiancé living in Kuala Belait and thus, frequently traveled back and forth to visit his better half. Working in a highly demanding field, which required every ounce of his expertise, commuting from the capital to the Belait District daily was painstaking and inconvenient but he longed to put a balance between his work and fiancé. Days and sometimes, even months at a time, the pressuring demands of his career began to take its toll on their relationship.

One fateful night, they got into a heated argument and his fiancé threatened to commit suicide. After several attempts to call her hand phone, which went unanswered, he grabbed his car keys and drove hastily to Kuala Belait. “Please answer the phone, please,” David pleaded. He then began blaming himself should anything unforeseen happen to his fiancé and could not imagine life without her.

He then approached the one-lane road and focused on the dark, eerie highway, where no street lamps were erected. Suddenly, the radio reception started to deteriorate and David simply thought it was due to the location. A few minutes later, the car engine began to quiver and decelerate from 120 to 80km/h. “What in heaven’s name could possibly go wrong now?” he exclaimed as it was a brand new car. “Do not break down here please, of all places!” David said while glancing around at the pitch-black darkness without a single soul in sight.

He pulled himself together and tried to dismiss all negative thoughts coming to mind. As he attempted to lean on the arm rest, David caught sight of what seemed to be a ’shadow’, in the corner of his eye. Without thinking, he turned to confirm his worst fear and indeed, there was a weird ‘figure’ sitting beside him in the front passenger seat. The entity’s long black strands of hair covered its face as ’she’ repeatedly let out a blood-curling laugh. Shivers ran down his spine and a thousand thoughts raced through the businessman’s mind. Given the fact that he is a free-thinker, no religion or prayers could save him then as he knew none. David thought of calling someone, practically anyone but his phone was in the middle of the dashboard. Terrified that the ‘entity’ would grab his hands, he continued driving, hoping, praying that a street lamp would appear with some visible ’signs’ of life.

A few minutes on, David’s instincts sent a warning jolt through his body. He could sense that the ’spirit’ was staring at him and his heart raced with sheer trepidation. Straight ahead, visible strokes of light could be seen and he stepped on the gas pedals hoping to reach the area before something happened to him. That seemed to only make things worse.

With the streetlights, he could clearly see his ‘uninvited passenger’. The events that followed would remain embossed in his memories forever. The ’spirit’ extended its arms to grab his shoulders. He immediately stepped on the brakes and ran out of the car. David refused to turn around for fear that ‘it’ was nearby but decided to fight his fear after remembering his fiance.

“After I saw it was gone, I went back into my car and drove off like never before,” David said. After reconciling with his fiance, he retold his frightful story and later discovered that the entity was in fact, a Pontianak. “This has altered my complete outlook in life and I now refuse to travel anywhere alone if it’s 3 in the morning,” he said while giggling but behind the laughter, the impact of that encounter could be visibly seen through his eyes.
