Possible Giant Ground Sloth (Mapinguari) Incident in Belize Jungle

A couple touring the Mayan ruins in Xunantunich, Belize may have encountered a Mapinguari, a prehistoric giant ground sloth.

The following account was reported to me in 2014:

"Hi Lon,

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Belize. Kind of like a 2nd honeymoon, so we spent most of our time on the coast and in Belize City. It was very enjoyable, and I recommend Belize as a vacation spot.

We used one of our days to visit Xunantunich, the ancient Mayan ruins west of Belize City. I am into the paranormal and like to visit historical sites known for strange activity. Xunantunich is Mayan for 'Stone Woman.' In the past, there have been sightings of a woman, dressed in white, ascending the stairs of the El Castillo temple-pyramid. She is said to have red eyes and disappears within the stone walls of the structure. We had hired a private guide who told us that some people believed that the Stone Woman had been sacrificed and that she appears when the energy is high at the temple. He told us that in his 15 years as a guide that he had briefly seen her once while with a tour group after someone pointed her out to him. He said the woman was dress in a long white traditional tunic and that she had black hair. He later took us to the spot where he had seen her.

As we stood on a grassy ledge on the temple, there was a loud crashing sound coming from the jungle below us. We could see small trees being push about as this thing moved through the thick vegetation. I looked at the guide and he had a confused and fearful look on his face. He said that we need move in the opposite direction. We descended the steps and walked quickly towards the plaza area where the tour Jeep was parked.

When we reached the vehicle, he made a call to someone on his radio. I don't speak Spanish, but my wife said that it sounded like the guide said 'cow.' Well there is no way all that noise was caused by a cow or even several cows. We got into the vehicle and waited for the driver. After a few minutes, he arrived, and we headed back to Belize City.

I asked the driver about what we had experienced and if he had any idea what it could have been. He said he wasn't familiar with any animal that big in the jungle. To me, it seemed he wasn't being completely honest, but I dropped the subject.

The next day, I got online to see if anything that big was known to inhabit the Belize jungles. I found a brief mention of a 'cave cow', a type of legendary large ground sloth that was said to live there. That's all I found. Since my wife thought the guide said 'cow' when he was on the radio, that may be what he was referring to.

Neither of us saw what this creature looked like, only that it had to have been very large and powerful." Gary

Human-Like 'Lycan' Encountered in São Paulo, Brazil Eucalyptus Plantation

A Brazilian man has a scary encounter with an 'human-like Lycan' while jogging in a Eucalyptus plantation. Very bizarre account from São Paulo, Brazil.

I recently came across the following account:

"My father likes to frequent the sports club of the local university where he teaches to run and exercise. It is a large sports area, with swimming pools, soccer and basketball fields etc. He still goes there every now and then. This place is at the exit to the next town and close to where we live in State São Paulo, Brasil. He goes there walking and cuts the way along a trail that goes up a ravine, passing beside a large eucalyptus plantation. Through this shortcut you can avoid walking half a kilometer uphill to the main entrance. A lot of people use this shortcut, including local employees.

One day he went for a run a little later than usual, at around 6:30 pm. About an hour later, sun already gone and just a few more minutes left of daylight, he was exhausted so decided to return by the same shortcut as usual. Would not be much of a problem since the full moon was high in the sky. When he reached the edge of the woods, he noticed a figure in the middle of the trees that looked like a horse inside the eucalyptus enclosure. He first ignored it and kept walking, thinking if he should try to communicate someone around about it. Mind that this place is surrounded by farmers that own horses.

He kept walking but started to fell eerie, as if someone was watching him. The feeling soon became stronger, a few more steps and he realized that the “horse” was walking alongside with him, so he looked again between the trees and saw that it was behind a tree. He thought that was strange, a horse hiding? Also, it managed to stand facing the tree between them? He just shook it off and continued the trail. He was already halfway down but the unsettling fear was increasing so he looked at the horse again and, as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he could see it a little better. Now it didn't really look like a horse, because he saw the animal jump from behind a tree to another, by the way it jumped it seemed to be a very tall and strong person. He stopped in shock and stared at the animal, still behind the tree, and noticed something swinging, what he previously thought was the horse's tail now looked like a man wearing a long coat, but the darkness and shadows of the branches were too confusing to figure it out.

He decided to ignore it and move on, thinking it was maybe just his imagination. He kept on track but, at the end of the trail there is a point where his path and the path where the animal was would cross each other. He started to freak out and decided to go back to the field and take the avenue, so he started walking back, paying close attention to the animal. He even thought it could be a friend trying to scare or make fun of him. Going back towards the field where the lights were now on, he could better see its silhouette, a massive muscular thing, hunchback, apparently covered in thick fur and what seemed like pointy ears in its head. He stopped in disbelief, but the creature kept walking towards him, not worrying much about hiding anymore. That's when his blood ran cold, the animal was approaching from the side as if it wanted to trap him. He tried not to run in order to display confidence and avoid attention, so he fast-walked back towards the field, distancing from the trail, when he took a last glance. The animal was there, still, lowered in a bush on its 4s like a gorilla. It looked like a huge human-dog. When he they were around 100 meters apart, my father ran to the main entrance at the avenue and was relieved to see that the animal did not follow. He came back by the avenue, still on high alert, sh*tting his pants.

Now every time he goes there, he makes sure he doesn’t stay past dusk." HG

'Skinwalker Valley': Elder Ute Recalls Evil & Death

An elder Ute man recalls his experiences in Skinwalker Valley, in the Uintah Basin where the infamous Skinwalker Ranch is located
I received this narrative from a native Ute who lives on the Uintah / Ouray Reservation. It is a revised entry from a previous post:

Hi - I am about to tell you a story that's absolutely true. My grandpa lived in Myton, Utah and he told stories about skinwalkers and how they could take the form of any animal or anyone you knew. I asked him one day "Did you ever meet one?" He told me "Yes." I asked "When?" "A very long time ago, before you were even born. Before your mother was born. It was when I was young and foolish. I went to the valley...the Skinwalker Valley. It's a valley where life never enters...not even the crows, the very guardians of death, will never go there. They too fear the evil that lives out there." He continued with his story. "I went out there to show people that nothing evil existed in the valley...nothing but their fears. But I was wrong."

He went on that he had gone to the Skinwalker Valley, in his old red Ford truck, to prove to everyone that what they thought they knew were just stories used to scare them. When he reached the valley, he remembered the grass was black as if it had been burned and survived the fire. The trees looked dead, but were still alive. He told me he had seen a house not far from where he stood. It was old and the roof was caved in. The door was gone, so he walked towards it. There were strange marks on the sides of the house. Animal skeletons were strewn about around the property, as if it were a sacred burial ground. Then he heard her...his grandmother. She had died long ago, but he heard her. The spirits were calling for him, for his life, for his skin, for his blood, for his soul. They were the lost souls they could change form...from man to beast. They chased and scared him...and told him that they would never forget him.

Whenever I visited my grandpa he would show me something that was brand new, but had been broken the next day. These spirits would kill his animals, so he finally stopped keeping his dogs outside. It got to the point where I snapped at him...telling him that his stories were lies. I told him, "prove it!" He turned around and pulled his shirt up. All I could do was gasp as I looked at his back. It was torn here and there, not one part of his back was unmarked. There were wide claw marks...too straight and to far apart to be made by a human.

I was scared and started to cry. I remember my mother running to see what was the matter. She screamed and ranted at grandpa as she held me, but he did nothing but stare at the field across the road from his house. She finally gave up and carried me inside. But as I looked over my mother's shoulder, I saw it. A large black dog with white eyes. It was watching grandpa and he was watching it as if waiting for it to attack him. It never did. I never saw that dog again.

My grandpa died 2 months later. The doctors said his heart gave out, but I knew that was a lie. His arm had fresh claw marks. That was 42 years ago.

No one has ever believed me, but it's a true event. So I'll tell you, so that the world will know. Never look into a skinwalker's eyes...it will never forget you. If you do, sooner or later it will have your soul. You can fight and refuse to give into the skinwalker's power...but if that is the case, then I hope you're not afraid to die. Name Withheld

'Skinwalker' Warnings From the Navajo

2 different accounts of Skinwalker experiences by Navajo people on the New Mexico reservation. They both warn of evil and death.

“Hi Lon, I am Navajo and a Christian, but I do believe in the devil and I believe that Skinwalkers are demons.

I grew up in the rural community of Crystal, New Mexico. It’s full of trees, mountains, and hills. The houses are scattered. The nights are pitch black at times, especially when the moon is low. My family is very humble, thankful to God for our success. We help and appreciate others, as all people should be treated. Sometimes we are tested.

One night I had a friend sleep over. We were in my room talking and hanging out. It was around 11 p.m. or so. Nice summer night, so my window was wide open and it was very dark outside. My dad was in the living room watching TV. As usual he fell asleep on the couch. My mom had already gone to bed. My friend and I were talking, when all of a sudden we heard the screen door open and slam shut. We thought it was my dad. While that happens, my mom claims she heard footsteps going through her room toward the restroom. She thought it was my dad, but then she soon realized that she was unable to move as if she were paralyzed.

Still in my room with my friend, we soon heard the screen door open and slam again. The slam woke my dad and he came to my bedroom to check on us. He wanted to see if we were still there and not into mischief.

My mom told us the next morning about what she heard, and how she could not move. She also told us that the second time the door slammed, she then heard horse hooves run by her bedroom window.

A few nights later, I was in bed asleep. I woke because something outside my open window was making noise; like a loud stomping sound. I was too scared to get up and close the window. I stayed still and continued to listen. Then I heard something running away. I slowly got up and walked over to the window. As I pulled it shut, a large dark shadow formed outside. I ran back to my bed and pulled the covers over my head.

The next morning, my dad told me that there was a Skinwalker visiting at night. This was the first time he ever mentioned a Skinwalker to me. He told me not to fear it; our faith will protect us.

I don’t know what was on the Skinwalker’s agenda, but what I do know is that my family was stronger than it. Our faith is strong and we know our savior will provide protection for our family. Every year we hike up the mountain to a high point and we pray for our community’s protection from evil. JK”

"My family never mentioned Skinwalkers or witches to me so I knew nothing about them. My grandpa died a few years ago so my parents sent me to live with my grandma to help her around her ranch on the reservation. I brought my cat along. Well just after two weeks of living there my cat went missing. I figured that he would come back but he never did. I called him and looked for him but nothing. So I went to go put some hay behind the barn for the horses when I saw my orange cat's remains. I thought maybe something attacked him like a coyote so I picked it up and I saw that there were no bones just skin and the outside of his fur there was red and yellow even white paint on the outside of him. I couldn't figure out what it was.

I buried him behind a hill with a little stone with his name carved on it. I was so heart broken. My grandma said she could get me a new cat but I didn't want a new cat. Pretty soon enough I kept hearing meows outside the hogan and scratches at the door. My grandma doesn't have any other cats so I would open the door and find nothing. Then one day, I went to go check on my cat's grave and dig it up to make sure he was still there. He was gone...but his bones were there. I just couldn't believe it! Why were his bones there? I thought I buried his skin? Ever since I have lived there I have experienced some of the strangest things in my life. I don't want to go back. I can't even share what kind of crazy things happened to me because from there I drew the line. I was confused and scared about these people but at the same time I knew I was one of these people. I have a greater respect for the Navajo people which is why I don't think getting involved with Skinwalkers is a good idea. Just don't mess with them and they won't mess with you." JJ

'Wolfman' in the Backyard: Cleveland County, North Carolina

A girl and her cousin encounter a wolfman or werewolf in their grandfather's backyard in rural North Carolina. It later vanishes without a trace

“I have really enjoyed your Phantoms and Monsters ebooks and blog the last few years. I just finished the most recent book, which had a number of dog and wolf humanoid encounters. I like reading these encounters because it makes me feel better to know that there are others out there who have had encounters with something that they can’t explain. I decided that I would send you my weirdest story, which happened to me as a child. I have seen and felt strange things since then, but this encounter was both the strangest thing that has ever happened to me and, I believe, a catalyst for other unusual things in my life and an interest in them. Several years ago, I sent this encounter to another well-known researcher, but I never heard anything back. I’m not surprised, as it is pretty odd and seems made up, but it did happen. What it was, I have no idea.

When I was a little girl, my Papaw lived in an old farm house in the upper end of Cleveland County, NC. We used to go visit with him every Saturday. My dad, my mom, my baby brother and I, along with usually several of my dad’s brothers, his sister, and their assorted children, would congregate after lunch at Papaws. Us cousins would play together outside and out in the woods, which ran behind my Papaw’s farm and stretched for probably 10 miles to a dirt road, beyond which was an apple orchard and a cattle pasture.

This was the early 80’s in a rural area, back when kids could take off to the woods for hours and it was ok. We would all have dinner together, and then hang out until bedtime for us kids, when we would all head home. At the time, I had just turned 8. My cousin J was 6. My brother and J’s sister were both small toddlers, barely walking. The night in question, J and I and our little siblings were the only kids present at Papaws. He and I had spent the day playing in the woods as usual, and out in the yard where J was trying out his prized brand new skateboard. After supper, we hung out in the back bedroom watching TV until our parents informed us that it was time to go home.

Papaw’s house had a glassed-in porch which also served as a laundry room on the front, right outside the kitchen. This porch, because of the way the lot was laid out and the house was built, was fairly tall and looking out the windows gave you a panoramic and slightly elevated view of the back yard. I would speculate that the porch windows were about 20 feet off the ground, and the backyard sloped away from the porch.

The backyard was lit by two large lights, one which was mounted on a pole to the left of the yard, the other mounted on the side of Papaw’s shop, which was to the right. They were very bright, and each light lit up a fairly large area. The only really shadowy part of the backyard was the area where a large tree stood, casting a shadow that fell between the shop and the greenhouse which was to the far left of the yard. It was under this tree that J had left his skateboard when we stopped playing to eat supper, and he and I decided that we should go out to get it while our parents were still saying their goodbyes in the kitchen.

The wolfman was in the backyard. We saw him at the same time, as soon as we entered the porch. He was man-sized, and he looked exactly like a werewolf from a bad b-movie. He had a shaggy, dark brown wolfman head with long pointed ears and a lighter brown muzzle. His hands were human-like as best I can remember, though they were covered in dark fur and he had long claws. He was wearing a red and black checked flannel shirt and blue jeans. I don’t remember anything about his feet, whether he had shoes or claws, but his legs were straight, like a person’s, not bent backwards like a dog. He was walking back and forth in the yard, almost robot-like or as if he were on a track.

I can’t really describe it well; it was like his legs were moving a little, but not enough to actually count as walking; it was more like he was gliding, but in a jerky way. His body was human in proportion. He would move from the edge of the light near the greenhouse across to the light near the shop, stopping when he reached the end of the illuminated area and turning around in a strange jerky way and gliding back. His eyes were red and glowed some, like one of those laser lights that you use to tease cats, that color and about that level of brightness.

The only time he was out of our sight was when he passed into the shadowed area of the tree. He seemed to be showing off for us, wanting us to see him, or at least that was what it felt like. The feeling that he carried with him was of overwhelming malevolence. I felt like he knew we were there and could see us watching and feel that we were afraid and he was glad. Not sure if that makes sense, but it was what I felt at the time; dread and fear and like he was aware of us and doing what he was doing on purpose to scare us.

Of course, we freaked out and started screaming for our parents. And of course once they all rushed out onto the porch only to hear us hysterical because the wolfman was in the backyard, they said the usual parent things about overactive imagination and too much Scooby Doo. Because, even though he was there walking back and forth right in front of them and we could both see him, none of the adults present could.

I remember pointing and saying “it’s out there!” And being really frustrated because they couldn’t see it. Finally, my Dad, determined to put an end to the nonsense, announced that he was going to go out into the yard and get J’s skateboard from under the tree. We tried to stop him, but he went anyway. At that time, the wolfman was still doing his strange gliding walk back and forth. When my Dad opened the porch door and hit the steps that led from the porch to the yard, he triggered the motion sensor light which was on the corner of the porch awning, lighting up the shadowed tree area.
Just before this happened, the wolfman had stepped into that shadowy area and disappeared from view in the dark; when the light came on, lighting up the tree area. The wolfman was just gone. It was as if he had vanished into thin air, as they say. We never saw him again, though we became mildly obsessed with werewolves for a while after that and started hoarding silver in case we needed to make silver bullets. When you are a child, it is pretty amazing what you can consider normal. We were scared at the time it happened, but it’s like afterwards it didn’t feel completely real because it was so...bizarre...and we sort of made a game out of it.

A few weird things happened to us in the woods after that, but nothing that could be considered paranormal beyond doubt, and nothing like seeing the wolf man.

Years passed, but I always wondered about what we saw that night. My cousin J forgot about it all together; I asked him about it just a few months ago, and he didn’t remember it at all. What really brought it back to my memory was the story in Linda Godfrey’s ‘Real Wolfmen’ about the girl who saw the hitchhiking werewolf wearing clothes. Before that, I’d never seen a serious report of a canine or lupine humanoid wearing clothes in any publication. I don’t often tell anyone about the wolfman we saw, because it sounds so completely crazy. Of course, my parents and J’s parents never for one second believed we saw anything.

I don’t fully know the history of the land around Papaw’s. I know that there were lots of Catawba Indians in that area before colonial times, and that there are several strange formations in that part of the county that people claim are Indian mounds, though none of them seem to be officially recognized as such.

There have been several Bigfoot flaps in that county as well, and there are black panthers there. I have seen both Black and Tan panthers, as has my father and many hunters he knows, though they are not, in my opinion, anything supernatural, just regular animals. I have no idea, to this day, what it was that we saw in the backyard, I find it hard to believe that it was actually a werewolf, but I feel like it was something paranormal. Seeing it caused me to have a lifelong interest in cryptozoology and Fortean phenomenon.

I’ve thought a lot about it, and I sort of feel like John Keel was right when he suggested that there is something out there that messes with us, just because it can. Like maybe something that wanted to be scary, and knew that a stereotypical werewolf would frighten some little kids. I’ve even wondered if it could have been someone dressed in a costume playing a prank, but that wouldn’t explain the weird gliding unnatural way it moved, or the way it was able to disappear so fast, or the fact that apparently five adults couldn’t see it even though two kids could.

Just thought that this might interest you because of the novelty. It sounds so ‘out there’ and frankly made up that I doubt anyone would believe it anyway. I have told maybe four people my entire life about it, including my ex-husband who did not believe me. I have never even mentioned it to my current husband, because it’s just so weird.

I would however be interested to know if anyone else out there has experienced anything similar, either a werewolf type form dressed in clothing, or something that they felt was “something” pretending to be something that it really was not (for whatever reason I feel strongly that this is what was happening). Scary Bigfoot Incident Near Daniels, Maryland

A woman and her son have a frightening encounter with a roaring Bigfoot in the Patapsco State Park near Daniels, Maryland
Please note: The following encounter took place in the Patapsco State Park in Maryland. This is in the same park where I had my encounter in 1981. Through the description of the location provided, it is the area around Daniels, MD, which is about 6 miles downstream from my encounter. The mill town was washed away in 1972, during the floods from Tropical Storm Agnes. The local legend is that Daniels is a ghost town and that several strange encounters have occurred there over the years. Lon

“My son and I had an experience with Bigfoot. We were walking in an unpopular part of Patapsco Park in Maryland. At first we were searching for ruins of a town washed out in the seventies. He was fifteen at the time and we were not having luck. Right from the beginning I got the creeps. We are in the middle of Nowhere Forest and we come across an empty ball field with metal bleachers and a shack that was open with dated equipment in there. As we were walking through the field I felt scared, like there were eyes on us all around. I said nothing.

About thirty minutes in, we realize were in the wrong area. I was thinking; “Oh great, I failed my angry teenager again. He is going to forever think I can’t do anything right.” We see a burned-up pine tree and I stop to take a picture. My son says; “This is lame, let’s go.” This is where things get real fast.

We turn around, walk twenty steps. He picks up a stick and bangs a tree. I look down and see deep footprints in the semi-dry mud. Those tracks were not there when we walked up. We take pictures. I jump up and down to try to recreate the indentation and I can’t do it. I then realize that we are being followed. Panic sets in. I declare a swift departure. I think to myself; “is my child safer in front of me or behind me?” That is a shitty thing to have to think. I push him in front of me. He has a machete and I have a stupid stick. We start to run walk back. This is what we hear.
Rustling along the side of the path, my son sees an arm. We hear the sound of a jug. You know the sound you hear when someone is blowing on a jug top. We see two different sized prints, small ones and large ones. We run by what looks like bedding in thick cool grass. We start to feel safe getting closer to the car. My son beats a stick against a tree. At that point a giant roar scream erupts behind us. So I grab the stick and scream at him “Stop hitting the effing tree we know it works, RUN!”

We make it back. I’m repeating the words I wish that never happened to us. He’s repeating ‘that’s the best thing that ever happened to me.’ We get home and I am virtually paralyzed with stress. My son said we have to tell someone. Oh man I think. I can’t deny it, my son was with me. Thus began my contact with a Bigfoot specialist and a cryptozoologist. I would say to my husband; “If the Bigfoot person calls, tell him I’ll be back by seven thirty.” It was 2 years ago. I have thought about it a lot. I believe them to be real and not real at the same time. Somehow I think they are spirits of the forest. I also no longer care if people believe me or not. It happened and I have nothing to gain from the story. Also I told the Bigfoot people to stop telling people to bang on trees. They hate it.” MM

Weird Winged Cryptids Seen in Kentucky

2 different witnesses observe weird winged cryptids in Kentucky. They both wondered if they had actually seen the Mothman

“Last night on November 26, 2019, my best friend and I were driving from Washington DC to Louisville, Kentucky. We had just passed the "Welcome to Kentucky" sign and it was very dark. Then, we saw it. The best way to describe it is that it looked like a combination of a Pacman ghost because of its head shape and eyes, it was glowing white, and it moved like a squid or jellyfish does in water. I didn't see legs. It was huge. The length of it was at least 6 feet and seemed to be gigantic when it spread it wings, for the lack of a better adjective. It was about 20 feet in the air above my car. At first, I was pissed because the environmentalist in me assumed that someone had threw trash out of their window until it spread its wings and hovered in mind air before it shifted directions. We both yelled "WTF"! I thought I was the only one to see it.

We were on the phone in the car with another friend and she was scared after we both yelled in shock about what we had just seen. It was so scary at first. My legs and hands were shaking for hours. I asked the guy at the toll booth if he had ever seen anything white flying in the sky and he started telling me about Mothman. I had never heard of Mothman in my life. I believe that it was protecting us so we wouldn't get in a car accident. I was wide awake, alert, and very cautious as a drove toward my hometown to visit family. I'm still shaken up a bit. I strongly believe that Mothman is not evil or a monster unless you are and I did not see red eyes but we did see something otherworldly. What we saw was Mothman It is real! I'll never forget what I saw and it was no crane.” SS

“Saw Mothman myself three years ago (2014). Just as you described, didn't flap it's wings, just flew/glided effortlessly. I saw it not long after the sun had gone down. It was a summers evening in central Kentucky, clear sky, I opened the double doors to the back garden and stepped outside to get some fresh air. As I stood there just outside the entrance, I slowly scanned the stars from the horizon and slowly looked directly above me taking in the evening sky. It was one of those evenings where the sky was like a blanket of stars, no clouds.

Just as I looked directly up is when I saw it swoop down from the roof of the house. It passed over me within a few metres and flew/glided across the back garden at head height and disappeared over the rooftops in the distance. It's wingspan was approximately five, maybe six metres, the wings did not flap, it sort of glided effortlessly with no sound. As it was going away from me, I saw what looked like two red glows, which I thought were rear lights as they appeared to be on the back of its wings, only they didn't seem like lights, but more of a red glow. It also had a human body shape, slightly larger than normal, its legs were together and straight and I saw the shape of a head. Of course, I only saw it as a dark shape and silhouetted against the night sky. The first thing I thought of was a giant human-like bat, as it was a sort of bat-shaped, like batman. I know it sounds crazy, but I know what I saw and what I have described is the best description I can give.

After it disappeared, I stood there for a while thinking about what I had just seen, staring into the direction it went hoping to see it again, not to confirm what I had seen, but more out of amazement and curiosity. I did think about reporting it, but then I wasn't sure the police would have believed me and the last thing I wanted was to be on the local looney toons list. I've told close friends about it and received a few raised eyebrows, so I decided to do my own research. The closest thing I found to it is the Mothman stories and here I am. Now I don't know if what I saw was the Mothman, because until now I haven't found anything else that fits its description; my reason for pointing this out is because I'm not aware of any disasters taking place when I saw it. It's also possible that any accidents/disasters are not directly related to the Mothman." NT

'Crawler' Humanoid Chases Sisters in Gulf Shores, Alabama Nature Park

2 sisters are chased by a tall skinny humanoid, that drops to all fours, while skateboarding at night in a nature park in Gulf Shores, Alabama
I recently came across the following account:

"About five years ago my older sister and I went to a nature park, a wetlands so to speak, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Of course we went at night so we could skate board around cause you aren't allowed too. But you know, a 14 year old trying to look cool in front of her 24 year old sister. Well we went just around as the sun was setting.

For a little bit we got lost since the park was so huge and condensed with a thick woods. We were trying to find the bridge, a 20ft or so bridge so we can hang out just above the rushing river. By the time we got there the sun was hardly visible over the mountains. I looked around after drinking my water and here is where the creepy stuff happened.

As I looked at the other side of the bridge I saw a tall skinny human-like figure. I first shrugged it off like it was a person, maybe a ranger of the park. But then it got on all fours and walked away. I didn't say anything at first, mainly because I thought it was maybe a bear. I looked back at my sister as we chatted about boys and along many other things. Then I looked back at the end of the bridge.

My sister did too and we both saw the figure this time. At this point I was totally freaked out, mind you it's still not dark out the sky was purple and orange so it wasn't like we were seeing things like when your mind pictures figures in the dark. No. It was right there and getting closer.

I told my sister to get the hell out of there. Her going first off the bride and down the hill. I went second. And as I turned to look at the bridge again it was 5 ft in front of me on all fours once again. It stood there as me and my sister skated off and this isn't even the end.

I told my sister to head to the main building since there is cameras and lots of light. We skateboarded for what seemed like hours, every minute seemed to last eternity. As we finally get to the main building we finally stopped riding our boards. Out of breath and scared we both looked around. By this time, it was pitch black outside. We made a mad dash to the car taking a path we have never seen before but it was outside the park which made us feel safer.

After we got to my sister's Jeep we both got in, hearts racing and scared out of our minds. And when we tried to leave the gate was locked. Meaning we couldn't leave since there was only one way in and out of the park. We got even more scared. We tried everything to get out. We even thought about just leaving the car behind and walking the 2 hours home. But we drove onto the sidewalk and got out of the park.

To this day I won't go back to those wetlands ever again. Even in daylight. Whatever that thing was I never want to see it again. I can't stop thinking about it. And I'm almost 19. You can think this is just a story but it really did happen. Me and my sister don't even talk about it to this day. Something changed between us, I could feel it after that day." DL

'I Saw the Mothman': Newly Reported Encounters in West Virginia, Louisiana & Wales UK

3 different encounters with the Mothman or similar winged humanoid in West Virginia, Louisiana & Wales UK

"I grew up in Point Pleasant, WV and lived in the Camp Conely area which is a couple miles from TNT plant (West Virginia Ordnance Works). There are 5 or 6 roads that people live on the right side of Camp Conely. I lived on the last two roads and there’s a small grove in between these two roads. This is where I heard Mothman.

The first time I was just cutting through the grove to get to my aunt’s house and I heard this screech that didn’t sound to far off...similar to a bobcat (which do live in the area). I start to slightly panic because I don’t want get mauled by a bobcat, so I high tail it out of there. Once I’m on my aunt's porch I turn around and look back to the grove. I see these red eyes looking at me through the trees. That’s when I first heard it, but didn’t really see him...just the eyes. I did see all of him once.

Me and my family were going home from my mawmaw’s who lives on Plants Ridge in Mason County. The quickest way from there to home is cutting through TNT area. It’s around 10 pm and I’m looking out the window trying to see some deer. Then I see the red eyes again, in front and to the left of our car by the road in a curve. Our headlights catch him and it's around the 6-8 foot range. It has grayish black skin with darker patches on his wings. A second after it's in the headlights it takes off and makes that same screech from before. Shortly after all of this we moved to North Carolina. But, yes, there is a Mothman" FJ

"I've never told anyone this or talked about it to anyone besides the people that were with me that night. My best friend claims to have seen it at a different date, that I didn't know about until I described my experience to him. I lived in a Bastrop, Louisiana with my cousin and his wife. There's not much to do in Morehouse Parish besides drive back roads like we've done thousands of times before.

Then one night in 2015 we were leaving a church we used to clean. It was around 2 am or so. We were in my cousin's 1990 GMC Sierra single cab 4x4, so we decided to ride back roads. So we're cruising while talking and listening to music. His wife was asleep in the middle seat when we turned on a paved road 5 miles or so outside of town. We come around a curve and there it was, something we had never seen before. I'm a avid hunter been in the woods all hours of the night and day. I was also in the Army, but had never been more freaked out by something than what we witnessed. There was something dead in the road and something was eating it when the headlights hit it. It looked up. It was about 2 and a half to 3 foot tall while kneeling over whatever it was eating. It had intense red eyes and it stood up so fast that it seemed like a millisecond. It was 7 or 8 feet tall with pitch black bat skin wings. In one fell swoop it leapt, its wings opened and it flew into the woods on the side of the road. It had to be moving over 50 mph. This was wildest experience of my life.

I've always been cynical when it comes to paranormal stuff, but I know what I saw that night and so does my cousin." B

“I'm one who needs to see to believe. I have heard some rumours of a similar being to Mothman appearing near to where I'm from in Wales, UK. My mother has claimed to have seen a similar being while she was in a car with her sister. She claimed to have seen a "shimmering cloaked-like creature." When she told me this, it immediately made me think of the 'Grim Reaper.' She said it came out of the darkness and followed beside the car on the passenger side and then went over to the driver's side, then finally it goes above the car and stopping in its tracks. Without knowing about my mother and her sister's sighting, there have been about 4 more people to have seen a similar being at the same area.

I want to believe in the supernatural but reported sightings aren't enough for me. Also, there have been few deaths on these roads. One was a cousin's girlfriend and her friend who drove their way onto scaffolding pipes and impaled. The driver behind them said they just swerved off the road straight into the pipes, but the car didn't seem to lose control. It was if it was done intentionally. It makes me think if they saw IT. I honestly don't know.” TR

Snarling 'Crawler' Humanoid Encounter in Huntington, West Virginia

2 witnesses have a late night frightening close encounter with a pale white crawler humanoid in Huntington, West Virginia
I recently received the following account:

"On a summer night at the end of the July in 2008 we were camping while working to sell our wares at a flea market in Huntington, West Virginia. It was hot in the camper so I got up and walked outside where I found my nephew sitting and texting on his cell phone. It was about three in the morning.

Deciding to take a walk in the night air we made our way about a hundred yards to the end of the long flea market building and sat down on a concrete slab. The light that was on top of the building illuminated the area where we sat. To our front there was a big open field and behind the field there was a tree line that led to a forest. A large billboard on the highway cast a sliver of light across the ground but the rest of the field was pitch black.

As we sat there chatting, I saw something white about 75 to 80 yards away squatted down on the edge of the tree line. I looked at my nephew and asked if he saw what I was seeing. He said he did but neither of us could determine what it was.

The creature started to emerge from the tree line, it came out about 20 feet almost crawling to stay close to the ground. When it reached the edge of the sliver of light that was streaming across the field, it paused for a second, never breaking its gaze on us.

When it reached the edge of the light it leaped, elongating its body to move through the light in one movement and landed in the darkness on the other side still maintaining his stare. The time in the light allowed me to see it more clearly, its body was long, gangly, slender and pale white. At this time, it was about 10 yards away from us having cleared half the original distance. It started to inch closer pausing in a stealthy, curious manner, inching toward us as we sat there shocked and frozen at the sight of it.

Now it is about 3 yards away and it stayed in that position for a longer time. At that point I had time to take in its features in greater detail. Its stature was 4-5 feet tall, very lean and skinny, pale white skin with no hair on the creature at all. It kept itself in a hunched position when still. Its knees folded backward like an animal’s hind flank. Its arms were long and skinny, reaching down to hands that had very long, thin fingers with claws.

It had big black, almond-shaped eyes, very small pointy ears that were close to its head. It had very long, pointed, interlocking teeth that were always exposed and lips that were so small they barely showed around the huge teeth. Its nose turned upward like a bat and laid close against its face.

Crouched, it slowly walked to the edge light we were enveloped in. Within 2 yards now. It was looking at us, making a low snarling sound as it breathed. That was all I could hear over the pounding of my heart which was now in my throat. It was staring at us and cocking his head from side to side as if it was trying to figure out its next move.

As I sat there wondering what could possibly happen next, it sprang into the light with its arms up and mouth open wide making crazy, screaming, growling sounds running toward us. Coming to within a foot of us, I leapt to my feet, putting my fists up in a defensive posture. It looked up as if noticing I was larger than it originally thought. Then, it quickly turned and ran away kicking dirt and gravel up in my face. It was off through the field and I watched as it ran toward the forest. Then I heard the rustling of the brush as he moved through the woods." RE
