The Booker Award: My Five Favorite Books

Sounds fancy, right? Both the lovely Kate Warrenand the fab Angela Quarles have nominated me for the Booker Award. The award targets literary and book-centered blogs. The rules are simple: post my top five books of all time, post the booker award icon, and nominate other bloggers to do the same.


Checking in on other people’s lists, I’m feeling a tad intimidated. I don’t have anything particularly high brow or traditionally classic on my list of faves, but these are books that stick in my memor...

Lemon Thyme Shrimp Linguine

Lemon and thyme is one of my favorite flavor combos and it goes particularly well with shellfish. This recipe is super easy and can be relatively healthy if you cut the butter and keep it to olive oil.


The goods (for two servings)



½ pound of shrimp, peeled and de-veined
An 8oz package of fresh linguine or angel hair
½ teaspoon of minced garlic
A lemon
5 sprigs of thyme
Olive oil
Salt and pepper

Optional:



Butter
Mushrooms, chopped (I use oyster or cremini)
Grape tomatoes, halved
Splash of white wine

Six Sentence Sunday #27

Dia dhaoibh, sixers! That means “hello” in Irish, and is pronounced “jia yeeve.” You might not believe it, but I was once fluent in the Irish language when I lived in the old country as a wee lass. And we don’t call it Gaelic! Today’s salutation is in honor of my delicious Irish pastry chef, Shane, hero of Turn Up the Heat. Shane has just bounded over to Cara’s table to make trouble and she’s giving her first impressions.
