Once a Bagger ...
Last week, Brian and I went to Hellmart to gather my supplies for my Great Day Green Country TV segment. Brian didn't want to be there. He never wants to be at Hellmart, but on this particular night he was coming off a three-day sinus infection that had laid him flat. Once my list had been checked twice, we went through our new self-checkout. I'm not sure what it is about the self-check out, but dang if it's not fun, right? There's power in that scanner, y'all.

Christmas Break 2013-2014, Day #2,561
You know when you were a little kid and wished that Christmas would never end? It's happening. It's happening right now. It's a million degrees below zero out there and, initially, the kids were totally all about it.
Now? We're over it. We're Okies. We like our one-time snow day. We like our one-time snow/ice storm. After that? We're done.
Of course, this weekend the temps will be in the 50s. It's Oklahoma. We're where Mother Nature comes when her hormones bottom out.
So, what will we do today o...

January 6--Beans! Beans! The Magical Fruit!
(Are beans even a fruit?!)
Today is Bean Day. It's also Cuddle Up Day. If you get the chance to stay in jammies all day underneath a big warm blankie, I suggest you just do that. If you eat beans, I suggest you cuddle only with people who have had beans or dogs. You can blame your toots on your cuddle partner or the dog. But that's just my opinion. Do whatever you want to.
For Bean Day, we're making a big ol' pot of beans. For New Year's Day, I baked a spiral ham and kept the bone (this is some...

Sister Sleepover
"Can we have a sister sleepover?" Daughter 2 asked as she bounced around the living room. Knowing that she had not had good sleep since the last day of school and knowing that she'd likely be driving her sister nutso, I passed the buck to Daughter 1, who would have to be sleeping with her.
"Can we have a sister sleepover together?" Daughter 2 asked her sister, who was sitting on the couch, half dozed and quite possibly with drool coming from her mouth since she hadn't had good sleep since the...

January Challenge--Week .5
My two goals for this month are to wake up at 6:00 in the morning and walking a total of twenty miles.

Six in the A.M. is about forty-five minutes earlier than I normally do. I want to do this because I feel like I could get a lot accomplished during this time, like yoga, writing, knitting, showering by myself, fixing lunches, being out of my bed, crying in the middle of the living room because I'm tired. Plus, I think it will help me be more in control of other things in my life i...

Happy New Year, Take Two
Seriously, my alarm must not be working. I really only want to wake up at 6:00 a.m. and get some writing or yoga or mediation or a shower by myself worked into my day. I've set my alarm every single day to do this and so far, I've woken up at 7:42, 9:33, and today at 8:24. I'm not hearing my alarm. Brian assures me that it's going off. He also assures me that I'm turning it off. I have no recollection of this mess at all. Brian also says that maybe I'd hear the alarm if I went to bed before m...

So ... Happy New Year.
Instead of making resolutions, I decided to participate in monthly challenges. The problem with setting resolutions is that they are unknown destinations without a map. Saying that you want to lose weight, but not having a clear plan how that will happen is not going to be a successful venture. So, my monthly challenges will be lifestyle changes that I'll attempt for 30 days. Or 31 days. Or 28 days. You get it, right?
The first one for this month deals with my morning routine, or lack thereof....

2013, You've Sure Been Good
I love the New Year ... a time for new beginnings. That's always a welcome event, unless you're winning and the game isn't over and someone calls "Do Overs" then that kinda ticks me off. Nonetheless, I love the New Year.
In anticipation of this fresh start, let's look back over the year.
SourceIn January, D2 celebrated her ninth birthday, and I harassed my cousins.
In February, I taught my kid the definition of rectal, and I took pole dancing classes.
March brought us strep throat (hallelujah!),...

My Favorite Things: Lazy Sundays
During the school year, there are very few Sundays that don't require my attention to something school-ish. (There's a special place in hell for people who think teachers only work 8:00 - 3:00 Monday through Friday nine months out of the year. And that special place is filled with ADHD kids who are out of meds and their helicopter parents.) Where was I?
Oh, yeah. There are only a few Sundays during the school year during which I have nothing to do. Today was one of them.
I still have a to-do li...

My Favorite Things: Laughing
The great philosopher, Buddy The Elf, once said, "I just like smiling. Smiling's my favorite." This is where Buddy and I differ. I do like smiling, but I like laughing better. And this morning, I had a great laugh.
Brian had been at the YMCA swimming his laps when he came in from the cold morning air and said, "I need your help" on his way to the back of the house.
I followed him thinking of worst-case scenerios. Was he having a heart attack? Could he breath properly? Were we in the...
