How Relevant is the Pope?
The election of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio to become Pope Francis was a momentous occasion in the wake of Pope Benedict XVI’s controversial decision to step down recently. While Benedict was criticized by some for exiting on non-traditional terms – the first pope to resign in 600 years – it’s interesting that the Catholic church is excited about how, well, non-traditional Francis appears. However, it is how he stands out in other ways that will determine his effectiveness.
Pope Francis, from Arg...

Latest Features On The Forever Saga
As the month of March continues to fly by, I find lots of important things staring me in the face – taxes, church events, my wife’s birthday, etc. All good things, but it’s easy to let them pass by without any sense of appreciating them (well, as much as you can appreciate taxes, in particular). That’s why today’s post takes a second to appreciate, and give some shout-outs to, the websites and blogs that have recently featured The Forever Saga: Flash.

March and April will be pivotal for The Forever Saga – there are currently 22 features (including reviews, interviews, and other woot-ness) lined up for Flash and I on various book blogs online. Writing What You Know
If you’ve ever written anything (and who hasn’t?), there always seems to be a point where you get set to write, and nothing really comes to mind. Or, you know what to say but aren’t sure how to say it. What’s more, you’re probably working with constraints like “write it in APA style,” “this poem has to rhyme?!” or even “I want this to sound good so I don’t look stupid.” How do we find a unique voice in the midst of outer and inner limitations? Read on…
Write what you know.Let’s start with the...

Feb. ’13 Monthly: The Avengers

Last July, I rounded up a group of buddies and went to the theater to see the most anticipated superhero movie of the year. We settled into our seats, completely amped to watch what would be the result of years of buildup and hype. Yet over two hours later, I ended up with acceptable, but convoluted, entertainment that just gave me a big headache. That movie was The Dark Knight Rises.
It eventually dawned on me that the main reason I wasn’t wowed by it was because of that other superhero movie...
