Giving Back
As Thanksgiving week rolls on, a curious thought about the true nature of gratitude struck me today:
True thankfulness means giving back.
U.S. Thanksgiving is an opportunity for rest from work, for family to gather, for tasty food to be eaten, and for football to be watched. Cranberry sauce tumbles out of a can, potato mashers get put through their paces, and turkeys meet a glorious end on a festively-decorated table. Often, family and friends take time during dinner to share what they’re thank...

Why You Should Never Quit
You know the term “overnight sensation.” It often refers to an instant rise to stardom for movie stars, athletes, politicians, and the like – think President Obama in 2008 or Jeremy Lin last season:

Hi kids, I’m Jeremy Lin. Did you know my last name is Chinese for “absolute boss of your face?”
An overnight sensation comes out of nowhere, as the media loves to frame it. But talk to any such person and one of the first things they’ll say is this: I didn’t come out of nowhere. I’ve worked hard for...

Monthlies – November 2012 – Transformers: The Movie (1986)

Think back to a time when your life was carefree, and everything you experienced was new and exciting. Now imagine that something in particular fully captured your imagination. It made you feel strong emotions, stayed in your thoughts, and made you dream of things you never had before. The younger we are, the more this tends to happen: we get hooked on a story that helps define who we are.
With this first entry in the Monthlies feature, I selected one such story from my life – Transformers: Th...

Lockouts and Literature
[image error]
Spoiler alert: I love writing, and I also love hockey.
Between the two, I definitely took to hockey first, back in 1992 when the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings were beginning their streak of consecutive playoff runs (still active today at 21 seasons and counting). Ironically, the Red Wings lost the first game I watched on TV, but the collection of memorabilia, goalie equipment, and memories since then have cemented hockey amongst one of my favorite things about life.
Fast forward to today: while the R...

Kirkus Review of “The Forever Saga: Flash”
“The first book in a sci-fi series uses its android princes and societies hidden under Antarctica to explore broad theological questions.”
So begins Kirkus Book Reviews’ verdict of The Forever Saga: Flash, awarding Sean C. Sousa’s debut novel a positive review.
“It’s an impressive bit of worldbuilding,” the piece says of the characters and locations established early in the novel. “The shining secret world fits perfectly with the real world Earth, where most of the action takes place. It also h...

ForeverBlog: Sean’s Thoughts on “Flash” Launch
A week after The Forever Saga: Flash launched on Amazon and other online retailers, I’ve found the entire experience to be just as exhilarating and tiring as I imagined. Thus far, I’ve spent nearly all my waking hours promoting the book, scoring reviews and interviews, and resisting the urge (somewhat) to obsessively check sales numbers.
So far. the response has been overwhelmingly positive! 5-star reviews from readers have popped up on Amazon, and over 35,000 people to date have seen Stanley...

Video – Early Release Packing Party
A few weeks before the official release of The Forever Saga: Flash, Sean C. Sousa and friends gathered to package and send out early release copies to everyone who backed the Kickstarter project to launch the book.
Sean and crew spent several hours prepping the books – signing the inside cover, inserting a bookmark, wrapping the novel, sealing it in an envelope, attaching the mailing label, and piling them in boxes to be picked up by USPS.
With that task complete, and Flash now available, Sean...
