DID YOU KNOW?? Hervé Villechaize, famously known as “Tattoo” on “Fantasy Island,” was a French actor, artist, and photographer. He was born with proportionate dwarfism, resulting in a height of 3 feet 11 inches. He also had a talent for painting, starting at a young age and having his work exhibited at the Museum of Paris by the age of 18. Villechaize also appeared in the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun” as “Nick Nack,” a henchman to the villain Scaramanga.

He’s also a character with a few quirky fun facts, including the use of a fat suit by Sorrell Booke to make him appear larger than his actual size. Booke was also a highly educated individual, fluent in several languages and even a graduate of Yale and Columbia.

BUT DID YOU KNOW?? “Dr. No” was the first James Bond film, released in 1962. It featured Sean Connery as Bond and was directed by Terence Young. The film’s opening sequence, featuring the gun barrel, was a last-minute creation designed by Maurice Binder. Interestingly, Ian Fleming initially wanted his cousin, Christopher Lee, to play Dr. No. But he ended up as “SACARMUNGA!”

BUT DID YOU KNOW?? Sylvester Stallone described the cryogenic freezing scene as the worst five hours he’d ever had on a movie set, saying he was terrified. Stallone initially wanted Jackie Chan to play the villain Simon Phoenix, but Chan declined and Wesley Snipes stepped in. And in the movie, Taco Bell is the sole remaining food chain, a prediction of franchise wars that may have seemed far-fetched, but not impossible… given that the Waffle Taco breakfast was recently introduced!!

DAMNATION ALLEY, Birds, Treasure, Medusa & STILLETO Concept!

HAPPY EASTER everyone and Good Morning from AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE! Today, we reach into the past (and the future) at the same time with Fireball’s LANDMASTER from 1977’s DAMNATION ALLEY! Back in ’77, Post Apocalyptic films were rampant, but the best cheese came from this film! And it was awesome…

DID YOU KNOW?? Damnation Alley was an original novel by Roger Zelazny. Directed by Jack Smight and original music composed by the infamous Jerry Goldsmith, the film starred George Peppard, Jan-Michael Vincent and a young Jackie Earl Haley! Poorly received with critics and audiences, it has since achieved a cult following. “No duh. Let’s blow up the world so we can drive this thing built by Dean Jeffries!!”

And meanwhile… ON PLANET FIREBALL, the ball goes birdwatching in Ventura, spots this stunning and large FALCON BIRD OF PREY! We wouldn’t want to be a Rat when this thing was out! PLUS, the Ball Brothers on set for NATIONAL TREASURE 2!!

Today’s CONCEPT CAR?? The infamous 1958 GM FIREBIRD 3 broke a number of legendary GM designer Harley Earl’s styling rules, and that’s one of the reasons it became such an important design. It had very little chrome and no parallel lines. The vehicle also put the ultimate twist on tailfins!!

Hittin’ Thursday AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE like a Moose to Turd Pie!! Let’s do this… with an all-new HOT WHEELS CUSTOM CORVETTE MASTERPRINT and MUGSHOT! Let the RED HEADS outta the bag, baby!!

DID YOU KNOW?? According to Hot Wheels lore, because of the fact that Harry Bradley worked for GM shortly before moving to Mattel, he snuck out copies of the blueprints into his cane (he had polio) for the real ’68 Stingray and used them as a base for the Hot Wheels model! SPY MODE ACTIVATED!! Since he was a designer there, he knew exactly where to get the materials for designing these new “Hot Wheels” in 1967; when the casting was released, GM “was not happy.”

When the first 16 Hot Wheels debuted in the summer of 1968, the Custom Corvette was one of them. And the cat was out of the bag, as Chevrolet’s 1968 Corvette was not due out for another few months still. This worked out in a good way, as it created more hype for Chevrolet and the Stingray from both kids and adults alike.

DID YOU KNOW?? Sylvester Stallone had asked his Propmaster to create a knife that audiences would never forget. The knife was so sharp that Night Slasher actor Brian Thompson would often cut himself by accident! WUPS. One of these moments was caught on film, in which he tests the blade on his hand while saying, “She’s mine.” And the movie has a rare workprint also… which contained 30-40 minutes of footage not found in other versions, including all the X-rated material removed from the final release! PACHOW!!!

CHiPs, Oysters, Lowriders & GROUND BASED TACTICAL FIGHTERS!

Buff Tuesday and Welcome to AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE! Today features Fireball’s new “CHiPs” BIKE ART for those that loved chasing down nere-do-wells weekly on the Classic TV Show. Ponch and Jon did their best in DTLA to rid the streets of crime… and now you can do it with a MUGSHOT!!

DID YOU KNOW?? CHiPs was filmed in the Los Angeles area, including back roads and sometimes on almost-completed freeways. The show also featured real-life CHP officers donating blood for injured officers in the line of duty. Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, briefly replaced Larry Wilcox as Jon Baker after a salary dispute. In the early episodes, Ponch’s probationary status with Jon as his supervisor was used to explain why the two officers were riding in pairs.

And meanwhile, ON PLANET FIREBALL… The Ball hits Ventura Icon JOLLY OYSTER with CSS Tommy Scalera (and Custom Gardner Squeeze Holly) at the beach for a very unique SoCal Shuckin’ Experience, thanks to Kim Wachter of THE DAY SPA OF OJAI!
