Fireball drives the 2013 BMW X1… to the Backlot
As cars show up at my door, the challenge becomes… “Where do I test these vehicles?” Now, there’s tons of canyons out here in Malibu, tons of cool roads and tons of places to shoot cool shots. But, with this 2013 BMW X1, I had to think different.
It was a Holiday week and everybody and there mother was out doin’ their thing and getting ready for the weekend. So, I had to take this 240hp mid-sized SUV somewhere where there weren’t people. And out of that persistent desire, an idea was born.
What not the Universal Backlot? Empty streets, as long as they aren’t shooting. Quiet. BOOM.
You see, the key to working on any backlot is to appear like you belong. And… not walk around and stare at things for too long. (How I got on the lot is another story) Once I was there with this 34mpg German rock, I slowly and quietly, found some good places for shooting. New York Street was the easiest as the cameras were shooting a little ways off.
At one point, a security guard approached me and I thought, “This is it. I’m busted.” But… he came right up and asked ME, what this was and if he could take a picture of this cool car. Of course, I said “TAKE A HIKE, BUDDY! I’M WORKIN!!” No, not really. I calmly said “Sure, go for it.”
He did, resulting in smiles and conversation all around. Another example of GIVE COOLNESS, GET COOLNESS, IT’S THE LAW. He asked all about the car and I’m pretty sure I made a sale. And at about $30K, this solid diamond is totally affordable. Probably with a payment of about $300 bucks.
This X1 is seriously solid. Not just put together. But BMWs are known for this. They are built with rigidity in mind. Not as in the ride, but as in the quality. They don’t skimp on anything which is why it seems you could take a mallet to anything and it wouldn’t even budge. (I wouldn’t recommend that, as your hand would suffice.)
Now, being on the lot, I didn’t risk bringing my phat SONY equipment and opted for my camera phone. Stealthy and does the job in a pinch without sending you to the Universal Pokie.
But all in all, the 2013 BMX X1 sDrive28i (It’s a mouth full) is a completely reliable friend that has enough pump to beat all LA obstacles, safe like BIG BROTHER status and roomy enough to give your friends a lift and make you proud, unless you fill the car with all your crap. So don’t. Keep it clean and it will give you more than you expect. It will give you JOY. Joy in knowing that this car will last a very long time and run like a thin rhino in a set of Nikes.

GOLF FORE GROWTH Event hits off Wednesday
Good friend and inspirational speaker Ted Silverberg (also of the Malibu Insurance Group) has put together a great event at The Malibu Country Club and Golf Course for tomorrow, Wednesday.
It’s called GOLF FOR GROWTH, creating a unique and fun networking opportunity for business professionals in SoCal to get together, talk, network and have fun over a few rounds of golf. I’ve done this before with Ted and we had a blast and created some great new relationships.
If you’re a business owner, entrepreneur, entertainer or sales professional… or even a wack-job like me, then this will be great hit through. And even though I won’t be playing, I’ll be on hand to meet new peeps and talk opportunities to support Ted in making a difference.
Plus, this won’t be the only one! It’ll happen two times a month on Wednesday afternoons! This event even includes a dinner mixer… so the 9-hole scramble plus chow is only $50 bucks. If you want in and to create some really great networking charm, then email Ted today, right quick, for tomorrow’s hit through. He’s at ted@malibuinsurance.biz. Include your name, email, phone, occupation and skill level.
Malibu Golf Course is located @ 901 Encinal Canyon and tee off starts at 3pm, so get there early!

FAST & FURIOUS 6… Everything a movie is supposed to be and MORE…
Ok, so with that said… why do I really need to mention more?
Easy, …there’s a reason that movies work and why they don’t. Some filmmakers know this and some… don’t. You know who they are and you have to at least give them effort for trying. But as you know, there are a million ways to kill a movie in Hollywood from the writing to the editing… and everything in between.
But Director Justin Lin knows how to make a film. Never mind that the final scene was shot on a 20 mile long runway. He didn’t try to get away with it but wanted to help you grasp more. Never mind that the stunts, jumps, chases and crashes were completely unreal because he was simply trying to get you to remember what it was like when you pulled out your hot wheels as a kid and did THE THING.
No stone was unturned with Lin and his crew. They knew how to bring you into a film and keep you there, but not because of the CRASHES, ACTION and HOOPLA. He knews how to do this because of the basics. The MOST IMPORTANT parts of a film.
What’s that?
The People. We have to relate to the people. Heroes we want to be. Strength we hope to have. Lines we wish to come up with in just that moment. The people is THE SCRIPT… and keeping it solid throughout filming no matter what the studio said to cut.
Each character, you liked. Even the bad guy SHAW. You hated him because he was so smart and drove a wicked 4-wheel steering F1 Race Car that scooped other cars into the air. He thought of that and you’re jealous because you want one. HOBB’S (Dwayne’s Johnson) arms were so huge that it just made you laugh until… they brought out someone even BIGGER that dropped your jaw. And Dwayne just smirked. His reactions were laser pointed.
The Furious Team was all about family, taking them on an adventure that finally landed them in a place that was completely unexpected. 1327. What’s that? Oh, no… not from me.
And then… when the film was over, Lin threw one last thing in that rocked your world upside down, bringing in someone completely unexpected and opening the gates of hell. Who was it? Oh, no… not even gonna go there.
FAST & FURIOUS 6 is for those who haven’t lost their sense of humor in going to the movies. Those that realize that to criticize is to infect the very soul of their own good. This is a FUN film with characters, lines, situations and cars that just keep coming in completely unrealistic scenarios. Pushing the limits of creativity and dynamics. Clear on what entertainment is supposed to be. It’s the best one yet…
And now, FF7 is heading to Dubai, but with a different Director. Let’s hope Lin is at least available for some advice.
Sunday Cosplay is a FEMME MARIO…
Sunday DRIVERS you can’t drive… but want to play with
What?? Cars you can’t drive? Is there such a thing?
Of course,… when they’re LEGOS. Lego Movie Cars to be specific. Oh, and there’s a minor other issue in that you have to build them first also. Sorry I neglected to mention that.

PORSCHE BOXSTER appears @ The Fireball Pad @porsche #porsche
Ok, so there I was, minding my own business when this dood named Bubba walks up to me and says… “Hey, you look like a guy who should be driving a brand new BOXSTER!” I stand there… stunned. Awestruck. CONFOUNDED! Why?
Because HE’S RIGHT! I SHOULD! And… voila!!!! He hands me the keys right there in front of my own house! Can you believe it??? I know! Blew my mind, too!!
I mean… I nearly soiled my shorts… had I been wearing shorts. But, I was wearing jeans, so that didn’t happen. BUT, it could’ve!! Instead, I took the key… fob, clicked it, and the car beeped… as if to say, “Hey Fireball! LET’S DO THIS THING!”
So.. we are. For this week, Let the coolness begin.
Wanna see it? Come to tomorrow’s BOOK SIGNING @ The Spectrum Club! No… you can’t have the keys because they will be locked away tightly in… in… in my pocket. But, you can have a smoothie, so that’s nice.
POSTER: Stallone and Ah-nuld create an ESCAPE PLAN
From the Release…
ESCAPE PLAN is directed by Mikael Håfström and written by . Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone), the world’s foremost authority on structural security, agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called ‘The Tomb.’ But when he is wrongly imprisoned, he must recruit fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever built. Jim Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D’Onofrio & Amy Ryan also star in the film which Summit releases on October 18th.
So… no action at all in this one.
