EXCERPT:
Greyson answered the phone with a grunt. He was so damn tired, he'd left Samuel to finish closing up the bar. They closed early on Mondays and he was excited. It would mean he could catch up on sleep.
“Grey, hey, I need your help, man.” The voice of his close friend sounded in his ear.
“Tiny, dude, I was sleeping, or about to.”
“Listen, Greyson, I need you and Samuel to meet me at your house. I am heading that way now. And get the first aid kit out.”
“Shit, man, what happened? Are you hurt? Samuel is on his way home now.” Greyson knew his friend, Tiny, who was anything but, had a flare for the ladies and at times poached in areas he shouldn’t have. A southern gentleman he was, to about everyone, but when he set his sights on someone, it was like a bear seeking honey.
“I’m fine, I have a friend who needs help. Don’t call anyone.”
“Sure, we will be here. How long are you from the house?”
“I’m about twenty minutes out now, but I can make it in ten if I have to.” Something in Tiny’s voice told him it was bad. He agreed and hung up the phone.
Taking a deep breath, he rolled out of his nice warm bed, pulled on some jeans and a t-shirt before heading to the bathroom to wash his face and check over the first aid kit. Before he did though, he needed to call Samuel.
“Hey, Grey, thought you went to bed?”
“I did, well except Tiny called, seems he’s got a problem and needs our help. How far from home are you?”
“Well, I just pulled in.”
“Great.” He disconnected the phone. As he looked over the first aid kit, he wasn’t sure what he might need. Tiny had been in a few scraps, but being he was a medic in the military before he and Samuel opened their bar. He didn’t want to stay in permanently, as a bear shifter it was hard to maintain his aggression when it came to seeing women and children hurt. After two tours he left, he and his partner in crime, Samuel, were looking for something more. Together they opened their small bar, Grizzlies, and settled down.
He heard Samuel enter the house walking into the living room as he waited for Tiny.
“Any clue what type of trouble he is in? Shit, the first aid kit, damn it. It’s going to be a long night.” Grey nodded.
“Well, let me get some Vodka, he may need that too.” Grey nodded once again, letting his brain go over all types of situations in his head. The sound of gravel from their driveway had him standing. He went and opened the door to see Tiny walking around the other side lifting something out of the passenger side.
“Please tell me that’s not some dog you hit.” But as Tiny turned to face them he saw a small woman in his arms with blood and bruises covering her face, and by the looks of her—unconscious.
“Shit, Tiny, get her in here.” Samuel was next to him within seconds as he stated it was a woman. He ran over to his first aid kit and started laying things down on the table he might need, while Samuel helped Tiny lay her down on the couch. He was lost in trying to make sure he had the items he needed, that he missed Samuel growling at Tiny.
“What the hell, dude.” Grey looked at his best friend who was now taking a possessive stance next to the small woman.
“She’s my mate.”

But the universe is a fickle thing, and she will be tested yet again when danger comes calling right to her front door.
Byrne and Danel have given their mate space, space she needed to heal and to see they would never be a threat to her. But a man can only stand on the sidelines for so long. And time for their little mate has just run out. This Luhpyne and Ahnjel are going to claim the woman they love.
Love conquers all, but it may not be enough to stop the threat coming for Briar. This time though, she’s taking a stand and won’t allow her life, fresh and new, to be torn apart ever again.

Excerpt
Of course, Valentine’s Day. A day made by the candy and card makers so very long ago. Of course it would be Valentine’s Day when she saw them next after her breakdown in her shrink’s office, or breakthrough as her shrink told her.
Briar actually had to hide her smile, something that not many were used to from her around here. “So Sylvester got his claws into you and now you want me to see if I can what?” Kiss it and make it better? If you had asked her three weeks ago if she would be willing that would be a big fat hell no. Now, well, now Briar wasn’t so sure that it would be just that.
“Get up on the table. I will grab supplies and yes, you will give me blood to ensure that there are no nasty parasites in your system from the attack. Stranger things have happened, you know.” Like her smiling. Or more so, her reaching out and touching Danel’s arm as she walked past him to go to her office for supplies. Yep, stranger things indeed.
When she returned both men were staring at her, unblinking and looking confused. Byrne was by the door to the hall, well away from her, ensuring he was never too close. Danel was sitting on the table, as she’d ordered, and had paused all motion in mid-scratch of a mark on his neck.
“You okay, doc?” Byrne asked her. “Not complaining or nothing, because really, when you’re around there’s no need to ever complain. But you seem, well…” He looked to Danel and shrugged as if to say, what the hell am I trying to say here?
“You seem rather relaxed given we’re within twenty feet of you,” the Ahnjel said quietly. It was his way, he was usually quiet. Unless he was arguing with Byrne or one of the other Luhpynes, then it tended to get loud. Didn’t matter the species, all guys thought they were always right even when they were just so very wrong.
“I’m fine, Danel,” she told him quietly and pulled on the gloves. “I am just working through my issues.” They all knew what her issues were, every single damn one of them, and it drove her nuts that everyone knew. But it was a good thing, too, because that way they didn’t ask her questions she didn’t want to answer. She did look over at Byrne and smile. “That was sweet of you to say, very much so.” And holy shit there was a blush on her cheek when she turned back to Danel. “So wanna tell me what happened?”
They were staring at her again, like she’d suddenly grown another head. “I’m not sweet you shouldn’t start rumors like that,” Byrne said. “And he got into a fight with a cat.”
“It wasn’t a damned cat.” Danel’s voice rose a bit.

Series Spotlight for Author E.A. Reynolds
[image error]
The amazing author E.A. Reynolds stopped by to talk about her series True Psy.
_______________
About the True Psy Series
Dangerous Games is the fourth book in my True Psy Series. It’s the continuing story of the Psy cop Atienne Mandarin and his lover Psychic Doc Kinsey Lane as they attempt destroy part of what they call the regime. The regime is built of two visible figures, Sands, the High Councilor and his side-kick Jenkins. Their accomplice the Joker makes a triad of trouble.
The series has so far mostly focused on Jenkins and his desire for power at all costs including betraying those who think he is their ally. Jenkins has a long history with Kinsey and it is Jenkins Kinsey and Atienne are out to bring down in this thrilling action installment of True Psy.
The True Psy Series itself is a spinoff of Psychic Docs and was inspired by my fascination with the ability of the human spirit to triumph over oppression. The series seems dark and full of violence but it is about men finding love amid that violence and betrayal. The intention is to show the complexity of human nature as well as the will to survive in spite of oppressive odds.
The series is built on two distinct factions of the Psy community. The Separatists who are merely gay men living under their own governmental rule in small communities called colonies. The other faction is the True Psy or the mainstream Psy community that is straight and gay. The mainstream society seeks to destroy not only the GLBT of the Separatist community but the GLBT of the mainstream Psy community as well. Therein, a war has begun that can only end one way and mass genocide is only part of the story.

EXCERPT
Kiri disabled the system from the edge of the lawn and Atienne interrupted the dark magic webs. Kinsey scanned and found three minds on the premises. The minds were beat squad soldiers.
“Anyone inside?” Kiri asked.
“Four minds,” Kinsey answered.
“Let’s get to work,” Atienne said grimly as they headed up the driveway to the house. A few towering trees cast shadows over the grass, but there was no cover as they made their way up to the house.
Kinsey stared up at the narrow windows and saw a woman looking down at them. She would inform Jenkins, but what did that matter. If he came running so much the better, but he doubted Jenkins would show.
Once they reached the front porch, Kiri said, “We can do this one of two ways. We can set charges here at the front of the house, or we can break in and go around back and set charges there as well.”
Kinsey frowned, but he saw the privacy fence that was nearly obscured by bushes. “I want them all the way around the house, he said. “Atienne and I will take the back.”
Atienne gave him an approving look and Kinsey smiled feeling determination flood.
“Okay,” Kiri said with a nod. She nodded to the man standing to her right. “Watch their backs. Are we using spells and crystals for explosives?"
“We are,” Kinsey agreed.
“Best thing we can do is a controlled burned,” Kiri said. “Keep the neighbors from losing their property. So, we can do the flash fire bomb spell or we can do the dragon’s breath spell.”
“I don’t know the flash fire spell,” Atienne said. “I’m prepared to do the dragon’s breath with a cayenne kick.”
Kiri nodded. “Then, I’ll use jaspers to mimick the effect with the crystals. I’ll set my timer for five minutes?”
“Five is good,” Kinsey said. No matter what he wanted this place gone. The fire would help to purge the grounds a little. “Can you do a cleansing a later?"
“I don’t do those,” she told him. “I’ll send a two person team that does.”
Kinsey headed around back with Atienne ahead of him and Kiri’s man’s at his back. He could feel the malicious energy waiting to attack them. Mentally, he prepared himself for what he was certain was to come. He’d have to kill the portal opener. Jenkins would certainly be using one to ensure this place was not destroyed. It had been as close to a sanctuary as the man could have.
They rounded the back to find four beat squad soldiers waiting for them. Kinsey immediately cut off all thoughts and went into battle mode.
The first shot was a pyrokinetic one, and Kinsey moved to take point against her. Atienne deflected her fire.
Kinsey moved turned to dual with a metokinetic fire bronze at them. He sent a stream of hydro-kinetic energy straight to the ground after ducking and directed it up in a hard jet that slammed into the attacker’s shoulder. It turned to ice that was sharply driven into the man’s shoulder. Kinsey moved to one side to avoid a bronze spike and found himself being telekinetically shoved to the ground. He rolled came up firing at the kinetic, but the man was already down. He turned his attention to the metal thrower who was firing off shots at the witch. He sent a spike of ice into the male’s leg before sending shards of icy into his chest.
The metokinetic let out a harsh cry and collapsed to the ground.
“Too easy,” the witch said.
No sooner had the words left his lips than kinetic energy was fired at them from the roof and a portal shimmered into life behind them. Kinsey waited until the portal opened and commenced firing icy jets of water.
The first one through was a female who fell immediately. Kinsey moved closer to the portal while the fighting raged behind him as Atienne and the witch dealt with the shooters on the roof.
****
“Do not close this portal,” Jenkins ordered Marcus Oaklyn.
“If you do I will kill your ass right here.” “If you don’t quick fucking with me, I won’t have the focus to keep it open,” he snapped back.
Jenkins moved in behind the team, he was going to take care of Kinsey Lane once and for all. With the distraction of the soldier’s he’d never see the telepathic attack coming.
He sent out a strong telepathic blast and heard Lane’s cry. He saw him through the portal as he clenched at his head. A malicious grin played on his lips as he sent out a harder blast. This one should knock out his shields.
He heard a scream and saw one of his soldiers fall.
“No,” Marcus said. “Get back!”
Jenkins ignored him. “Shut the fuck up coward.”
Marcus knocked him out of the way and Jenkins growled as they hit t he ground, but his eyes widened as the team members left in the portal collapsed.
Ice began drifting back toward them hard and fast. “Close it!” Jenkins ordered. The damned blast would end them both.
Marcus didn’t have to be told twice, but before the portal closed ice cut across Jenkin’s face burning into the skin making him howl in agony.
“I’m going to kill that fucking bastard!” He snarled as he got to his feet.
“Yeah, I bet,” Marcus said as he moved back to the monitor.
Jenkins joined him and watched as Kinsey and Atienne laid charges around the base of his sanctuary.

Eight Things About Lucy Kelly!

Today we have the great pleasure of welcoming author Lucy Kelly to our spotlight. Let’s find out more about this amazing author.
______________
Lucy could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I come from a large family with lots of sisters to play with. My brothers were all older and out of the house when I came along. I remember playing outside til the street lights came on, fighting over who was going to get off the couch to walk to the TV and change the channel, and those black dial telephones. Both of my parents read to us regularly so we all developed a love of reading from an early age.
______________
When did you first start writing?
For years I’d take my favorite books and talk to my friends about how I’d continue the story or change it. My family was always telling me to write. As a single mom though I never had the time. Also as a math geek I never thought my writing skills were good enough. I became friends with a writer, Jana Leigh, and she pushed me to write my own stories. I’ll always be grateful to her for that.
______________
What drove you to writing?
Wanting to tell my own stories. And having my characters pushing me to tell their stories. I think my writing has improved. At least the files don’t come back from the editor with as many changes as they used to – LOL.
______________
What genre do you prefer to write?
My first series is sci-fi romance. I have a race of aliens that have come to Earth to find a crashed ship. They find the ship, and they also find the answer to the lack of women on their own planet. My next series, the first book is coming out in July is a shifter series. Should be interesting writing both series side by side.
______________
What type of books do you like to read?
I read romance mostly and also mysteries. I started out with Nancy Drew and read only mysteries until the mid nineties. Now I’m catching up! I devour books and like to read at least one a day. That’s the only really hard thing about writing, it cuts into my reading time!
______________
Which of the characters that you have written do you feel the closest to?
While I’m writing their stories, they’re all close to my heart. But I think I’ve taken another step with the new book coming out in July, Laura’s Secret. Laura is a special person because she’s vulnerable. Usually my females kick ass! In my latest sci-fi release we have FBI Special Agent Jo March. She’s tough with a vulnerable side, eldest of all her sisters she watches out for them.
______________
If you didn’t write, what other career would you want to persue?
Well, I’m not a full time writer yet. I’ve only put out five books. So by day I’m a math geek. I work as a corporate controller.
______________
Tell us where you got your inspiration for your latest book.
Dreams mostly. I have always had extremely vivid and bizarre dreams.
______________

EXCERPT
Earth…
“Are you going to introduce me to your guys, Aimeé?” asked Jo, taking a bite of her food.
“This is Tonne and Jorne Jors. They work for Kern & Walthers Software. Only Kern retired, so it’s only Walthers now. They have two older brothers named Margan and Trake. Our family is all girls and theirs is all boys,” Aimeé said.
“Tonne, Jorne, this is my older sister, Josephine. As I explained, we, my other sisters and I, all call her Jo. She’s with the FBI, and that’s why she always gives our boyfriends the third degree. Prepare to be interrogated. Be nice, Jo,” she told her sister.
Then each man stepped forward to shake Josephine’s hand. She had gotten up from her chair when her sister started talking. Now she sat back down again.
“Don’t worry about making any food, Jo. I’m going to phone for Chinese. I’ll get extra crab rangoons and pot stickers, if you’re still hungry after the eggs. We were going to do that later, anyway, because I haven’t had time for grocery shopping with everything that’s been happening…and the cupboards are practically bare. It’s a good thing there are all-night Chinese restaurants or they’d starve. I can’t keep feeding them breakfast. I think you used up the last of the eggs,” Aimeé said.
Jo went back to her eggs before they got cold. The menu for the Chinese restaurant had been found; the various items decided on, and the order phoned in, Jo was finished eating. They were all sitting awkwardly, not talking.
“So, since I found you guys naked in the bath, I’m guessing you’ve been having sex with my baby sister. Have you mentioned you’re aliens from another planet?” asked Jo, dropping a conversational bomb in the room. She was starting the interrogation her sister had mentioned.
“What the hell are you talking about, Jo?” asked Aimeé.
“When I was in Wisconsin on a case, I was told our birthmarks prove we descended from aliens who landed on Earth about ten thousand years ago. These men have come from a distant planet to find those descendants—us—and mate with us, because there are almost no women left on HeVan. HeVan is the name of their planet and they call themselves the Nephilim,” she said to her sister, casting looks at the men.
Josephine turned from her sister to look Tonne and Jorne in the eye.
“Have I left anything out?” she asked blandly.
“Actually, there is one more thing,” said Tonne, as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. As always, Jorne was unruffled, he was better at hiding his feelings.
“You mean she’s not joking with me? You three haven’t gotten together to cook up some story?” asked Aimeé, her voice getting high and tight. She got out of her chair and backed up to the counter.
Jorne turned to confront Josephine. “You’ve scared her! Why did you blurt it all out like that?” he accused.
Tonne got up and, before he’d taken a step toward Aimeé, she held out a hand, palm out, and told him to stay away from her.
Now Josephine’s anger came out. She stood herself. Pushing her plate out of the way, she leaned over the table to get into Jorne’s face.
“No, you should have waited to jump into bed with my sister until everything was cleared up. You two are the ones taking advantage of her. If you cared for Aimeé, you would have been up front with her. You have hurt her and no one hurts my family!”
HeVan…
Suddenly, the transport bucked. They all went tumbling, and the alarms sounded.
“Engine is off-line. Attempting to start emergency secondary engine. Stabilizers at seventy percent,” the computer said.
The transport had gone into a dive, and the computer’s attempts to stabilize were tossing the passengers around like a fist shaking dice. Bracing his feet and grabbing onto a door handle, Justyn reached out with his other hand and pulled Grace into his body. The blanket was tangled up around his legs, and Jett was trying to move it out of his way so he could get into the command chair. Jalen had hit his head, knocked unconscious as his body continued to tumble with the motion of the transport.
“Stabilizers at forty percent, twenty seconds until terminal velocity. Unable to change trajectory to avoid populated area, self-destruct in fifteen seconds. All passengers must eject before self-destruct,” the computer said.
“How do we eject?” Grace asked urgently.
“We have to put on the emergency ejection suits. They have built-in parafoils,” Justyn said.
“Bring it on,” she shouted.
The computer was counting down to twelve seconds.
“There’s not enough time,” he said, holding her through another shake and role of the transport.
“Jett, do something,” she cried.
He had worked his way into the command chair. They were down to eight seconds. Jalen was hung up on one of the seats, which had popped out of its stowed position.
“I’m trying…got it!” he said, and the transport leveled off.
“Oh, thank God!” she said. Justyn shared a look with his brother. They knew this was only a temporary reprieve.
“The emergency power has only bought us another ten seconds. After that, we’ll be in free-fall until the self-destruct,” he said.
“I can teleport us, hurry up,” she said.
Desperate, she wished they were back at the palace in their bed. She felt the momentary feeling of otherness, a disassociation with her body and mind. Blinking her eyes, she saw she was lying in her bed, still wrapped in Justyn’s arms. Looking beside her, she saw Jett. She sat up. “Jalen!”
She tried to jump up. “Let go of me, Justyn!” she yelled as she pounded him with her fists.
“He’s gone, honey, you did the best you could,” he said, holding tight.

Today we have a real
treat for all of you, Tonto from author Harley McRide's Bed of Roses is
visiting with us. So let's dig in and find out more about this smoking
hot man!
Describe yourself:
I am six foot, two inches, weigh 220lbs. with shoulder length dark brown hair,
slate grey eyes with enough tattoo’s up both arms, across my chest, and on my
back. - If you look at the picture above I'm the buff dude on the right.
_________________
What are your likes?
I like bikes, booze, boobs, and babes.
_________________
What are your dislikes?
Just about everything else.
_________________
Can you tell us something about yourself?
I am from the Cherokee Indian tribe and am proud of my
heritage. My brothers and I ride to keep
the Cherokee Nation strong. Some of our
earnings go to the tribe to help our people with housing, school, and jobs. We work hard to protect our community, and to
keep drugs off our streets.
_________________
What are your hobbies? How do you spend your free time?
Shit. Well, I guess
since this is an interview I should tell you something most people don’t know
about me. I am a huge Garbage Pail Kid
Card collector. They came out when I was
a kid. We used to pick up cans for
enough change to get a pack each week. I
still have a binder full I keep in the safe at the clubhouse. Now don’t go telling people that or I’ll have
to hunt you down.
_________________
What is your type?
Before if you asked me that question, I would have said
tits and ass. But now, my type is
Rose. There isn’t another woman in the
world that can stand up next to her in my eyes.
_________________
Sorry these next questions might be a bit personal. But
the readers (and me) really want to know.
What was your first sexual experience like?
I was fourteen and my babysitter was nineteen. She came in wearing this little pink skirt
and tank top. I fucked her across the
kitchen table, and grinned all through dinner when my mother got home and sat
with us to eat.
_________________
What is your favorite sexual position?
There is nothing more powerful than bending a bitch over
and ramming it home from behind. That
being said, the same goes for a hot piece of ass to climb on and ride me like a
bull too. ;)

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I’m the president of the Devil’s Savages. I don’t get embarrassed. But… this one time we were all blazing down
the highway one day and someone had dropped off puppies at the side of the
road. I stopped and loaded them all in
my saddle bag and took them home with me.
The guys still give me shit.

Excerpt
Kysha was still trying to process everything. She was pretty sure she heard her dad say he was an elf, which made her one too. Kysha had read a lot about elves and other mystical beings, but she never dreamed they were real. Her brain was going a million miles an hour trying to process everything that was going on. She hadn’t even realized her father had put her in the car and they had started driving until they were pulling up at a house. She grabbed her bag and got out of the car. She waited by the door for her mother, then they both showed her up to her room.
She was shocked at the size of the house; it was giant for just one person. It looked like it had a basement and an upstairs. The kitchen was twice the size of the one they had at the apartment, but so was her bedroom. Her bedroom was painted the exact way she wanted the room at the apartment painted. The walls were a lavender color and it had a strip of different colored flowers going across the top of the wall. The bed in the room was bigger than the one she had at the apartment too, and the bedding was a light teal color. Kysha loved pastel colors, but she wasn’t much of a fan of pink, the room was absolutely perfect for her. Her mother and father walked into the room as she was unpacking her clothes.
“Kysha, was there anything you wanted to ask me?” her father asked. Without really thinking, she looked up at him.
“What am I?” she asked.
He smiled at her. “Well, I am an elf, and your mother is a sorceress, so you are a mixture of both of us,” he answered matter-of-factly.
“So, I have pointed ears and can move stuff without touching it,” she returned.
“You can do a lot more than that,” her mother answered with a smile. “You’ll come into more abilities as you get older, sweetie,” she added.
“Okay,” Kysha answered, still obviously in shock from it all. “So elves and sorceresses and all, that is real?”
“Yes,” her father answered.

EXCERPT
Waking up slowly, Bri groaned. Her mind was fuzzy, her head throbbed, and it felt like something had died in her mouth. God, why did she let Charlotte talk her into doing stupid things? And it would be Charlotte's fault. Her sister constantly pushed Bri out of her comfort zone. And drinking alcohol didn't agree with Bri. Why did I drink so much?
Because Charlotte had everything Bri wanted and might never have a chance to get. A pang of guilt wormed its way into Bri's thoughts. She loved Charlotte and wished her every happiness, but Bri would admit to having a streak of envy running through her heart, too. The perfect sister with the fairy tale wedding, a dream Bri gave up—no, she wouldn't think about it. Not now.
Blinking open her eyes, she winced when a sharp jab shot through her skull at the light, then instantly stiffened—though not from the pain. She didn't belong here. The warm beige walls and the dark, heavy furniture were nothing like those in her room. Oh, God. Where am I?
Bri shifted, trying to get a better look at her surroundings, but a strong arm around her waist pinned her to the mattress. A soft sheet draped over her, kissing her skin and Bri realized she wore nothing. Heat along her back, and a firm, naked erection pressing into her had a prickle of nervous awareness skittering down her spine. Her pulse beat wildly and she struggled with the implications. Oh, God. What had she been thinking? She could have gotten hurt…again. No! She wouldn't think about that.
She muttered, "Geez, Bri. What have you done, now?"
Cupping a hand over her mouth, afraid she may have woken the man behind her, Bri sighed in relief when the stranger grunted but remained asleep.
Pulling herself gently away, making sure not to rouse him, she slipped out of the bed. Her knees shaking, she inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly until the wobbly feeling decreased. Turning to inspect her bed partner she gave herself credit, he had handsome features. Thick blond hair, slightly longer on top to frame his eyes, and a chiselled, angular bone structure, the term masculine work of art came to mind. With the sheet draped to just below his hip, his hard, muscular body seemed huge against the white linens. Oh, wow. His erection peeked out from under the heavy cotton, long and thick, and almost begged for attention. Dampness pooled between her legs, surprising Bri. She'd never had such an instant reaction to a man before.
It scared her.
The sudden need to run became too hard to ignore. She trembled at the thought of him waking up and things turning ugly. She couldn't let it happen again. Bri fought for breath, sudden fear suffocating her. She hated being afraid. Hated feeling weak and helpless
Grabbing her dress, she quickly pulled it on, before picking up her underwear, clutch, and shoes. Tiptoeing to the door, she glanced back, taking one last look at the beautiful man lying in the bed. Regret pierced her heart for a guy she didn't even remember, but so did an overwhelming sense of terror.
"One of these days, you're going to stop being so afraid," she said to herself.
Slipping on her shoes and stuffing the rest inside her clutch, she exited the room, then raced home as fast as she could. Home was good. Home was safe.
*****
Stretching his arms up above his head, Josh let them fall back by his side. Patting the space beside him, he opened his eyes and turned his head. Empty. He lay there dumbfounded for a moment. Josh thought he and Bri had really hit it off, but it seemed she didn't feel the same. Judging by the coolness of the sheets, he guessed she'd left some time ago.
Josh gazed at the ceiling wondering what had gone wrong. He had sensed something, knew it had her more cautious than most, but then she opened up a little. He assumed she had become more comfortable with him. Christ, he had spoken more to her than he had any other woman in his life.
"Nice one, Josh. She took you for a ride." He should have known better, but it had been nice.
No woman ever wanted to talk to him that much, most just tried to get into bed with him. They all assumed good looks and a cowboy hat equaled not a lot upstairs; he was just a cowboy after all. Bri clearly thought the same as those women, and that hurt. Josh actually thought they'd made a connection, one that could maybe go somewhere. He felt like a fool
