Rough Ride Romeo
Crawley Creek 2
Cowboys don’t cry, but Roman “Romeo” Freemont certainly has enough tragic history to spend his days teary-eyed. Instead he’s turned to women and liquor in an effort to soothe his aches and pains, but when a petite brunette with a feisty temper comes crashing into his world, he realizes what he’s been missing.
Francesca “Franki” Scott has walked through fire herself. Nowadays she just isn’t a people person, and she’s definitely not interested in a wannabe playboy ranch owner either. She has a mission and it could mean life or death for someone close to her if she gets distracted.
Closing the gap between these two wounded souls could mean surviving yet another tragedy. Will their determination to hide their pain from themselves be their downfall, or will they come through this rough ride together?

ASA Episode: RECON
[image error]
Chapter Ten (Episode 10: Recon)
Riggs wasn’t happy about them separating. But Lacey was pissed at him. He was glad she cared enough to be jealous, but he didn’t want her to worry that his intentions towards her were less than genuine.
As he moved through the crowd on the upper level of the club, he kept one eye out for Professor Jotham and one eye on Lacey. She was beautiful and sexy tonight. A lot of men were noticing her. She didn’t seem to have a clue. But that was one of the things that he loved most about her. She wasn’t fake or pretentious.
She glanced up searching for him but then when their gazes locked she quickly looked away. He needed to pull her aside and let her know that she was the only girl for him. He suddenly stopped moving when someone on the dance floor caught his attention.
It was Professor Jotham and Ms. Krebbs. They were dancing close together. Jotham had his hands all over her but she actually looked like she was trying to push away from him.
Riggs signaled to Lacey that he spotted Jotham. He wanted her to stay out of the way while he made his way back downstairs. He frowned when he saw that she wasn’t going to wait. She tapped some guy on the shoulder and said something. Then the two of them headed towards the center of the dance floor.
What the hell! Riggs rushed down the stairs not caring that he was shoving people out of the way. He squeezed through the crowd on the dance floor and felt a jealous rage overtake him when he spotted the stranger’s arms wrapped tightly around Lacey’s waist.
Riggs tried to keep his cool. He glanced around and saw that Jotham and Ms. Krebbs were still dancing about fifteen feet away. He turned back to watch Lacey and had had enough when he saw the stranger move his hands from her waist down to cup her ass. That’s was it. No one touched his girl!
*****
Lacey was about to tell the creep that she was dancing with to remove his hands from her butt or she would remove them for him. She glanced up and caught sight of a furious Riggs storming their way. “Oh shit.”
“Get your hands off my girl!” Riggs growled at the man that was dancing with her.
She was torn between telling Riggs to go dance with one of his regulars, or throwing herself in his arms. He was jealous over her dancing with this guy and it was kind of a turn on to know she meant that much to him. Some of her anger and resentment about him knowing the girls who worked at the nightclub faded a little bit. She shouldn’t blame him for having a life when they hadn’t been a couple or attempted to be a couple until now. She needed to extricate herself from the guy dancing with her before the started a fight.
“Thanks Vance…” the guy was rude enough to interrupt her.
“It’s VANN.”
“Right, Vann. Thanks for the dance, but my boyfriend is here now.”
“You didn’t say you had a boyfriend when you asked me to dance.” Vann didn’t look happy about being dismissed.
“I didn’t say I didn’t either. My boyfriend was late and I wanted to dance. I appreciate your time. Have goodnight.” She didn’t wait around for the man’s response. She launched herself into Riggs’ arms keeping him distracted.
“Are you going to dance with me or not?” Lacey asked with a husky voice. That got Riggs’ attention big time. He turned his full gaze on her. Those dark eyes of his always seemed to see right down to her soul.
She shivered in pleasure as their bodies rubbed against one another. She leaned up and nipped at his chin making him growl. Lacey thrilled at the thought of being able to drive him crazy like he did her. She didn’t even care that they were surrounded by a large group of people.
“Baby you are so sexy. The only one for me. I swear it.” Riggs nibbled on her neck.
She knew it, she felt the truth when he spoke. She couldn’t erase his past with other women, but she could become the sole center of his world right now. Like he was for her. That’s what she wanted. She felt like she was finally ready to take things to the next level.
He bent his head and kissed her. Their lips were warm and needy. She felt his hands roam her back and when his hands lightly touched her ass, her reaction was much different than it had been with Vann. She wanted Riggs, wanted him with a passion. They pulled apart slightly and she planned to let him know that he was the only one for her and that she would let Blayne know.
“Riggs I…”
“They’re moving.” Riggs told her as he danced them through the crowd.
It took her a moment to have her thoughts refocused. Right, she almost forgot they were here to spy on Professor Jotham. She looked for signs of them and saw that Jotham and Ms. Krebbs were getting a seat at a table on the other side of the dance floor. Riggs moved them until they were close enough but not easily seen.
“We won’t be able to hear anything from here.” Lacey whispered in Riggs’s ear.
They watched as Jotham left Ms. Krebbs at the table while he went to the bar. He took a seat next to a man in a blue suit. The man in the suit looked completely out of place in the club.
Riggs turned to her. “You stay here and keep an eye on things while I try to make my way closer to the bar to overhear the conversation.”
“Be careful.” Lacey hated parting ways. She watched as Riggs snatched someone’s baseball cap from the table and put it on. He then walked closer and took a seat further down the bar.
Who was the guy in the suit? He didn’t seem right to her. Something about his appearance bothered her. Everything in her screamed to get out of there. But she wasn’t going to leave Riggs. He needed her.

NEW Sci-Fi Romance from Jessica Anderson

New Sci-Fi Romance from Jessica Anderson!!
VIXEN
They walked until night. Lexy knew he was following her but he was good at following without ever being seen. They would follow travelers and stay far behind until they fell asleep then they would go rob them of all the extra supplies.
Lexy and Alyce camped in separate tents. They always did. Yes Alyce was Lexy’s younger sister by adoption and best friend since before that but Lexy liked her privacy. She often spoke in her sleep about stuff she didn’t want Alyce to hear.
Lexy pitched her tent and went straight to sleep. They would be home with the other girls they were going to set sail with tomorrow. It was going to be a long day. She sat in her tent for what felt like hours but she just couldn’t sleep. All she could really do was keep herself from thinking about him.
She waited for him to try and approach her again but he never did. She got out of her tent still exhausted and packed up quickly. She was so tired she was completely oblivious to the extra sleeping bag sprawled on the ground until she tripped on it. She fell and hit it hard. The groan that came from it was familiar as he peeked himself out from it.
“Just dying to get on top of me again huh?” Shane asked sleepily.
“What the hell are you doing here?” She asked angrily getting to her feet as quickly as humanly possible.
“I went and got him.” Alyce answered coming out of her tent Alyce’s blonde hair was freshly brushed and unlike all the others that did something that would piss her off her blues eyes still shined bright and showed no fear. Alyce knew that Lexy would never do the things to her that she did to the other people that bumped heads with her and right now she was grateful for it. She knew that if she were anyone else she would have been shot for that. “Sorry sis but you wouldn’t tell me what happened so I had him then I had him come back here to tell you.”
“Alyce he’s a con artist he lies like it’s his job.” Lexy returned.
“So are you and I don’t expect you to lie to me all the time.” Alyce said stubbornly. “Just please listen to him.”
“Fine.” She answered moving her dark red hair behind her ear as she crossed her arms across her chest.
Her dark green eyes stared at him intently, it was almost like he could see the fire from the hatred burning in them.

EXCERPT:
Maxim growled. “I’m not going to make it much longer if you keep moaning like that.”
She pushed his plate of untouched food towards him. “Eat. It will help us pass the time.”
he took a sip of her champagne. He still insisted on feeding her, so she fed him too. Every time he took a bite from her hand, he sucked her fingers into his mouth. She was so ready to leave.
“The sun is finally setting,” Maxim said, pointing to the horizon.
Streaks of red and gold danced across the sky as the sun set.
“It’s beautiful.” She turned to look into Maxim’s dark eyes. He wasn’t watching the sunset; he was watching her.
“There is nothing more beautiful than you. You are sunshine itself.”
“Thank you.” He was so sweet. She leaned up and kissed him softly on the lips. But it wasn’t enough for her. She wanted more. He pulled her into his lap and captured her lips. She felt his arousal pressing through his jeans. She wiggled against him and couldn’t help but smile when he moaned with need. She was feeling a little lightheaded from the kissing.

ASA Episode 9: Deception
Alliance Space Academy Episode 9: Deception
“If you don’t step away from her, I won’t be responsible for my actions.” Rigs warned him as he approached. He had never felt such rage as when he saw the man touching Lacey. Not even when she was dancing with Blayne did he react like this. He started forward with angry strides.
Professor Jotham took a step back from Lacey raising his hands up. “Am I going to have to call security Mr. Lawson?”
Before Rigs could respond a new voice called out from the doorway. “I don’t think that will be necessary Greg, unless you want me to speak with security about what I just saw.”
Everyone turned and watched as Professor Toler entered the room. “Of course, you can claim that you were only assisting Miss Clark and that myself and Mr. Lawson misinterpreted what we both witnessed. But then there was Miss Clark’s request for you to let her go. That alone would warrant an investigation. You wouldn’t want that, now would you Greg?”
Jotham stepped further back glaring at Toler. Toler addressed Lacey and Rigs. “You two run along now. I have some pressing matters to discuss with Professor Jotham.”
Lacey picked up her backpack. Rigs put his arm around her and walked her out of the room. They had gotten a few feet past the door where they weren’t seen before Lacey stopped.
“Let’s go Lacey.” Rigs whispered.
“No, I want to make sure that Professor Toler is okay.”
Rigs glared at her but she crossed her arms over her breasts defiantly. He sighed. “Fine, but you stay close to me.” He reached for her hand and pulled her around the corner to where the second entrance to the lab room was located. The door was cracked a little so Rigs carefully opened it up further so that they could see into the room. They were at a back angle so neither man could see them, but they wouldn’t have anyway because of the arguing going on.
“You have no room to charge into my lab they way you are doing!” Jotham yelled.
“What’s wrong Greg, you have something to hide?” Toler taunted him.
Jotham struggled to regain his composure, and then he gave an evil smile at Toler. “Good old Abe, faithful and reliable Abe. I know what this is all about, you’re jealous about me stealing the lovely Ms. Krebbs from you?”
“First of all, you never stole Alice from me to begin with. We were never an item. As she explained to me clearly, she had always only seen us as friends and if I had wanted more, I should have told her. Which is true, I should have. Secondly, if I had been seeing Alice you sure as hell would not have been man enough to steal her from me. Third, Alice decides who she wants to be with, even if I do not agree with her choice I will support her.”
“How magnanimous of you. So you came her to tell me how it doesn’t bother you that I am fucking the woman you are in love with?”
Both Lacey and Rigs cringed and looked at Professor Toler as his face paled. But he kept his shoulder straight and didn’t show any other signs that what Jotham said bother him.
Toler shook his head. “I was on my way here to question you about your whereabouts the night of the bombing.”
Jotham turned away and Lacey and Rigs had to step back so that he wouldn’t see them. They could hear his reply.
“I was having a very intimate dinner with Alice at the time. You could ask her if you don’t believe me.”
“Oh, I will most definitely be asking Alice to verify this.” Toler turned to leave then he stopped. “One more thing Jotham, if you ever lay your hands on Miss Clark or any other student, I will personally see you thrown off campus and your tenure revoked. Have a good day.” Then he walked out of the room.
Rigs took Lacey’s hand and was trying to pull her along but she halted him. They listened as it sounded like Professor Jotham was on the phone with someone. They could only hear the one side of the conversation.
“It’s me. No I’m still on campus right now. Something has to be done about Toler. He’s asking too many questions. I don’t think he has that much information but the longer he is not kept in check, the further risk there is of exposure. I can try to garner information from one of his students, but at this point anything I do might be under scrutiny. Yes that’s right. I will be taking Alice there this evening. No, that’s too open and public; she’ll never go for that. Fuck! Fine I’ll get her there. Hold on let me write the address down. No I don’t know where it is because I’ve never been there before! Okay, Cool Runner 1202 Rochester Street, 9:30 pm. Got it. Fine. Bye.”
Rigs and Lacey quickly ran down the hall leading to the nearest outside exit. When they got around the corner of the building they stopped to take deep breaths.
“Do you think Professor Jotham is involved in the bombing?” Lacey asked between breaths.
“Yeah I do.”
“Holy shit! What do we do? Should we tell someone?” Lacey twisted her hands together nervously.
Rigs shook his head. “I don’t know. We don’t have any proof that Jotham’s involved.”
“But the phone call we just heard…”
“We are the only two that heard it and we only heard one side of the conversation.
“But it sounded like something was going down tonight. We can’t just let Jotham get away with it. What about Ms. Krebbs, do you think she has a part in all this?” Lacey was shaking with fear.
Rigs pulled her into his arms. “Easy honey. It’s going to be okay.” He kissed the top of her head, then her forehead, then and her cheek. He trailed kissed down her face to the edge of her lips. He only meant to distract her from her fear, but the moment their lips touched spark ignited. God how he wanted her.
Lacey kissed him back early before pushing him away. “Stop distracting me with your expert kisses. I can’t think straight when you do that.”
Rigs kept her in his arms but laughed. “My kisses are that good huh?”
No, his kisses were that amazing. But she wasn’t going to tell him that because he already had a big ego as it was. “What are we going to do?”
“Tonight is our first date, maybe we’ll make an appearance at the night club he spoke about.”
She frowned and looked up at him. “How do you know what kind of place it is?”
“I’ve been there a time or two. It’s a dance club type of place.”
“Dancing...with or without clothes?” She narrowed her eyes at him.
He laughed. “With clothes honey. But if you want to go without I won’t complain as long as I am the only one that sees you.”
She blushed. “Shut up. Pick me up at 8:30 then?”
“Absolutely. Did you want me to walk you back to your dorm?”
“I need to go to the library.”
He took her hand in his and started walking in that direction. “Come on, I don’t want you to make up any excuses like you have to finish a term people or something and can’t go out with me tonight. This is my chance to sweep you off your feet.”
She smiled. He already had done that. She was filled with butterflies but this time it wasn’t about her date with Rigs, it was about what Jotham might or might not be up to. She hoped that Ms. Krebbs was not involved.
*****
Later that evening
“Why did you wear that?” Rigs stared at Lacey’s outfit for the evening.
Lacey sighed. “I didn’t, Caroline came over and helped pick out the outfit. Why, does it look bad?”
Bad? No, that was not the word that Rigs thought when he looked at the short sleeveless wrap dress. Hot, sexy, nearly indecent might be better words.
“Did you tell her other people would be seeing you like this?” Rigs reached over to run a finger along her delicate bare shoulder. She felt so smooth and soft.
“It’s too short isn’t it? I knew it. I told her I shouldn’t have worn this. Do you want us to leave?”
“Honey, I want to be alone with you so that I and I alone can enjoy you in that dress. You look sexy and almost illegal.”
Slowly his words penetrated and then her face lit up with her smile making her go from pretty to absolutely gorgeous. Rigs’ breath caught. He had to work to get air to his lungs.
“So you like how I look?” Lacey lifted her arms up and did a slow turn for him. His eyes devoured every inch of her. The tight sheath dress clung to a surprisingly well endowed chest, it hugged and squeezed her tiny waist, then it stopped just a few inches short from her well rounded ass. If she bent over it would reveal whether or not she wore panties underneath. Oh God the image was in his head and would not leave.
“Damn it Lacey, I…” He turned towards the wall and adjusted his cock, which was swollen and uncomfortable in his tight jeans.
Lacey watched curiously. “What are you doing? Oh.” She blushed as she saw the evidence of his arousal. “Did I cause that?”
Rigs pulled her into his embrace. “Yes you did you little minx.”
They started to kiss but were rudely interrupted by the bouncer. “Move the line along, get inside or move out of the way.”
Rigs put his arm around her shoulders and walked into the dark nightclub. They both hand stamps on their hands indicating that they were minors and could not drink. The place was filled with a mixture of students and adults.
“Come on honey, let’s see if we can find Jotham in this place.”
“What will we do if Ms. Krebbs is involved?”
“That’s for the authority to decide, not us. Let’s go babe.”
Lacey took a deep breath and went inside. She never would have gone to this place if Rigs hadn’t been with her. He held her hand sending her warmth and strength. With him by her side, she felt like she could do anything. Nothing could touch them.
“Look girls, Rigs is back!” A blonde girl barely dressed dancing in a cage hanging from the ceiling called out. Then three more girls called out greetings to Rigs and a few other suggestion comments. Lacey turned angry eyes on him.
“What? I haven’t been here in a while. Come on Lacey don’t be like that.”
She yanked her hand from his and missed the comfort immediately. Damn him and his playboy ways. She wanted nothing more than to storm out of there and back to the safety of her dorm room. But she couldn’t leave now; she had come all this way to try to get answers about Jotham.
She held up her hand to stop him from his explanations. “We’ll discuss this later.” She saw how crowded the place was and knew it was going to take time for them find Jotham. “You take the lower level since all your girlfriends want to talk to you. I’ll search for Jotham on the upper level.”
“Wait Lacey!” Rigs called out to her but she was already pushing her way through the crowd and away from him. Damn it! He should have come her alone or with one of the guys. He really fucked this date up.

ASA Episode 8: Betrayal
[image error]
Episode 8: Betrayal
Something is wrong with Professor Toler. That was the thought running through Lacey’s mind since the moment she had walked into his class early that morning to help him prepare the next lesson.
It had been almost a week since the bombing and things still had not returned to normal. Quite a few students had been pulled from this semester by their families. More may be pulled if the bomber is not found soon.
She had called out to him. “Good morning Professor.” He was sitting at his desk staring out the window. “Uh, Professor Toler?” She walked closer to him. He wasn’t moving. He breathed in and out but otherwise there was no sign that he knew she was there. She walked up to his desk and stood there before him. There was no expression on his face.
“Professor Toler, are you okay?”
He blinked then looked at her. “Miss Clark? I did not hear you come in.” His voice was really rough.
“I noticed. Are you okay? You seemed to be in your own little world.” She looked him over. He didn’t look good.
Professor Toler was a forty-five year old but looked like he was in his thirties. His dark hair only had a few streaks of grey on the sides and had always made him look very distinguished. But right now, he was not looking his best.
Not only was his skin pale but he was a bit unshaven, his tie wasn’t straight and there was a sadness in his eyes. Professor Toler was always clean cut and presentable. Her gut told her that his physical state was tied into his emotional state and probably had everything to do with Ms. Krebbs dating Professor Jotham. Damn them to hell for hurting such a good man. Her heart hurt for him.
“I’m fine. Well, not fine. No, definitely not fine. But that’s my personal business and not for my students to worry over. If you could take this stack and sort the worksheets out for me I would appreciate it.” He reached for a stack of papers next to him and handed them to her.
“Of course.” She picked up the stacks and went to her normal workspace. She quickly organized and sorted the worksheets.
It didn’t take but thirty minutes. She smiled thinking that a lot of students thought Professor Toler was outdated for using paper instead of computerized worksheets. But he insisted that despite the advancements of technology, that people should not forget where they came from and that every intelligent species at one point, had used a written form to communicate. His famous quote was, “It connects us all to one another.”
She moved the stacks to the side. “I’m done Professor. Is there anything else that you needed?” She walked back to his desk. He was on his computer.
“Thank you Lacey. Yes, could you come take a look at these findings from the bomb site that I uploaded. Remember that this information is confidential.”
“I would never reveal anything confidential. I know how important it is to find the people responsible for the bombing.” She shivered thinking about how things could have turned out much different for her and her friends. One or all of them could have been killed. The thought of losing her friends was devastating. She touched her heart for a moment and had to fight the emotion that was there almost choking her.
Professor Toler stood up from his seat and moved back so that she could sit down. She looked at the screen. It was the samples from the wreckage including DNA remnants. A list of all the students that had been in the dorm for the party had been supplied and medical records with each student’s DNA was provided to compare and eliminate suspects.
“There are similar DNA patterns detected on the cellphone that matched the area where the bomb was located. They don’t match any of the students’ DNA.”
“That’s right. Note the DNA that we uncovered later that was in the underground tunnel directly where the bomb was.”
Lacey looked closely. “It matches the DNA from the cellphone and the area at the bomb location. So if the DNA belongs to the bomber, and does not match any of the students, then that means that the bomber is …”
“... not a student. It had to be an adult staff member.” Toler provided for her.
She frowned. “Could it have been someone visiting campus?”
Toler shook his head. “No. The campus has strict rules about visitors after hours. Every visitor must sign in at the gate and must sign out before the gates are closed and locked for the night at 21:00. Every visitor that checked in had check out for the night. The bomb detonation time is estimated for 23:00. The bomber had to be on campus in the building at the time.”
“So definitely had to be a staff member. One that came to the party with the cellphone then since it had the same DNA.” Lacey couldn’t believe it, someone on campus that could be a teacher, maintenance personnel, or any adult worker for the campus could have done this horrible thing.
“Did the dorm have any security cameras?” Lacey asked.
“No, not inside the building. But there were outside campus cameras set up. I will contact security to review them and to look for someone that entered and left before the bomb went off.”
“I hope they find this person.” Lacey stood up and reached for her backpack.
“Me too.” Professor Toler sat back down and pulled up another file of results.
“Professor Toler I …” She wanted to say something to comfort him. But what could she say.
“Yes Miss Clark?”
“Let me know if you need my help for anything.” She was a wimp to not say something.
“I will. You are one of the brightest minds on campus, or of anyone that I have met. It’s why I trust you implicitly with this information.”
She blushed. She wasn’t used to compliments. “Thank you sir. Have good day.”
She left the classroom heading towards the exit. She had planned to go to the library so that she could do some research before her afternoon class. She stopped walking when she heard someone call out her name.
“Lacey!”
She turned to find Professor Jotham walking towards her. Crap, why did it have to be this asshole? “Yes Professor Jotham, did you need something?”
“My dear, please call me Greg. I am not nearly as old and stuffy like most of the professors here on campus.” He gave her a wink.
“Was there something that you needed?” She didn’t call him by his first name. He was acting very inappropriately. It wasn’t necessarily against campus policy for students and professors to mingle or even date. But it was frowned upon and frankly, it was just plain gross in her opinion.
“Could I borrow you for just a moment? I have some extra credit work I think you might be interested in that could be applied to your academic record and go towards you graduating early.”
The thought of being alone with this man gave her the creeps but if what he was offering was for real, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity for extra credit. “Sure, just give me a minute to let my friends know that I’m going to be a few minutes late for lunch.” She walked a few feet away from him and grabbed her cellphone. Who the hell should she text and what was she going to say?
She scrolled through her friends’ numbers. There was only one person she really wanted at that moment. She pressed his number and typed, “I need you. Come to Professor Jotham’s lab.” She hit send. She hoped he got it and that he wasn’t too busy.
“Ready?” Jotham motioned for her to follow him to his lab.
She really wasn’t but what else could she do without looking rude? “Sure.”
*****
“Pay attention Lawson!”
Rigs glared at Captain Ray. They had been going over drills for the past hour and twenty minutes. Physical Defense Class officially ended twenty minutes ago, but for some reason Captain Ray was running them through their drills hard.
“Okay, we’re done for the day.” Captain Ray finally dismissed everyone walking off without saying anything else.
“Thank God.” One of the students whimpered as a group of them fell to their knees on the ground completely exhausted.
Rigs wanted to do the same thing but if he did, he wasn’t sure he’d get back up. He needed to grab a quick shower and get back to his dorm room. Then he could crash for the next three hours since this was the last class of the day for him.
He started walking off and Trevon half ran half limped over to him. “Heading back to the dorms to crash?”
“Yeah, I’m beat but I want to crash in my own bed.” Rigs told him.
“That sounds like a good idea. I’ll do the same.” Trevon said as they walked to the showers.
Ten minutes later Rigs was dressing when he heard his cell phone alert that he had a text message. He wasn’t planning to respond but he glanced down and saw that it was Lacey. He read the message.
“I need you. Come to Professor Jotham’s lab.”
What the hell was she doing in Jotham’s lab alone? He slipped his shoes on quickly stuffing his cellphone in his back pocket. He raced to the door.
“Hey man, where are you going?” Trevon called out.
“I’ll see you back at the door, I need to do something first.” Rigs told him before disappearing out of the building. He just hoped he wasn’t too late. It sounded like she was in trouble.
*****
“I’m not sure what you wanted my help for Professor Jotham.” Lacey shook her head as she looked at the telescope slide. She tried to move back but found herself suddenly trapped. Jotham had moved his body right behind hers, too close to her. She didn’t like it. She spun around to face him. He was tall and she had to look up.
“Call me Greg, please. I know the samples here are not as exciting as what Professor Toler has you doing. With the investigation and all. Have they found the culprits yet?”
“I can’t discuss the investigation with anyone not approved by Professor Toler.”
“Stuffy Toler? I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. He trusts you implicitly doesn’t he? How close are you with ole Toler?” He reached up to run a finger across her cheek.
Lacy jerked away from his touch. “Professor Jotham!”
“Lacey, you’re a very attractive young woman. I’ve noticed that you have been noticing me as well. You watch my every move.”
“What? No, no I don’t. I pay attention when you teach because you’re my teacher. That’s it.” She felt her heart racing and a dark fear creeped inside of her. “I...have a boyfriend.” She thought that might make him finally step back from her. But it didn’t. Just the opposite, he stepped closer to her, crowding her.
“I never see you with anyone. Who’s your boyfriend Lacey?”
“I am.” Rigs growled from the doorway.

ASA Episode 7: Illusions
Lacey said goodbye to Rigs as he left to go to his dorm where and and Trevon shared a room. She changed directions and headed towards the dorm where Blayne was. She felt guilty for not checking on him earlier.
She needed to also talk to him about their situation. She wasn’t sure that she could date two guys, especially when she had stronger feelings for one than the other. Maybe the best thing to do would be to end things with Blayne before they got too serious and someone got hurt.
She walked in and smiled seeing Bay asleep on the sofa. She looked over at Blayne who gave her a dazzling smile.
“How are you feeling?” She whispered pulling up a chair next to his bed. She was trying to be quiet so as not to wake Bay.
“Much better. I am ready to get out of this bed for sure. How about you?”
“I’m fine. I think you took the brunt of the blast. You did that on purpose didn’t you?”
Blayne blushed. “I tried to protect you the best I could.”
“Thank you Blayne. I remember landing on top of you and then kind of bounced off and hit my head. It would have been much worse if you had not cushioned my fall.” She reached over and pulled the blanket higher on Bay.
“How did your class go?” Blayne sat up.
“It was interesting. Professor Toler took the class over the bomb site to show us how to investigate a damaged area. I came a little later on and helped review some of their findings.”
“And what exactly did they find?”
“Nothing that will pin point to anything or anyone. A few suspicious things though. They did find a cellphone that may have been used as a remote detonator.”
“Do they know who did it?” Bay asked.
Both Lacey and Blayne looked over at her in surprise. They had thought she was asleep the whole time. But she had been laying there watching them and listening.
Lacey nodded. “They suspect it is the Gorads.”
“But how could the Gorads get on the planet and in the academy? It has the most advanced security system in the solar system.” Bay asked sitting up.
Blayne answered before Lacey could. “They had help. They must have had someone already on the planet, already with access to the academy, and probably someone no one would question.”
Lacey nodded her head. “Yeah, that’s what is suspected. It makes the most sense too.”
Bay shivered. “I can’t believe someone here, someone we may know and see every day could be a traitor.”
“I know. I just can’t believe it. I feel like I will be looking at every I see now with suspicion.” Lacey admitted. She wanted to change the subject. “How’s Trevon?”
“He’s doing fine. He’s a worse patient than Blayne to have to deal with. Such a baby about everything.” She laughed but it turned serious quickly. “He saved me. I could have been really hurt if it wasn’t for him.”
“I’m glad he was there for you. Blayne saved me too by cushioning my fall.” Lacey smiled at Blayne.
Bay punched her brother’s arm gently. “My brother the hero. Who would have thought it?”
Blayne felt uncomfortable with all the attention. “Has anyone heard from Caroline?”
“Yeah. Rigs and I saw her on campus after our class.” Lacey wasn’t sure how much Caroline wanted the others to know about her. But she didn’t tell her not to say anything.
“Did she say where she had gone to?” Bay asked.
“She said that she had gotten a call that her...girlfriend had tried to commit suicide. She rushed to the hospital to get to her. In the process she lost her phone so she couldn’t get hold of any of us. Then she had a hard time getting security to let her back on campus.”
“Girlfriend?” Bay was shocked. But Blayne didn’t seem to be phased by it.
“She’s gay. I didn’t know until today. How about you?”
Bay shook her head and looked at Blayne try to turn his head in the other direction. “Did you know Blayne?”
Blayne sighed. “I’ve know for about a year now.”
“How?” Both Bay and Lacey asked at the same time.
“I was at a club one night with the guys and she was there, with a girl. They were slow dancing and kissing. I didn’t say anything about it because I wanted to respect her privacy. I figured she would let everyone else know when she was ready.”
That was one of the things Lacey loved about Blayne. He was always considerate of other people’s feelings. He was just a good guy all around. It made her feel even more guilty for kissing Rigs earlier.
“I’ll be right back. I need to use the restroom.” Bay stood up and left the room to go down to the communal bathrooms. It left Lacey and Blayne alone.
“So, you hung out with Rigs this afternoon?” Blayne asked.
“Not really. He walked me back to my dorm.” She fidgeted in her seat.
“When are you two going out?”
“Tomorrow night.”
“I would like a do-over.” Blayne told her.
“A what?”
“A do-over date. Ours didn’t turn out quite how I planned it. Don’t you think I should have a second chance.”
“Blayne, what happened wasn’t your fault. Of course you can have a do-over.” Lacey bit her bottom lip worried. Was she being fair to Blayne? She had very strong feelings for Rigs and she basically couldn’t control herself whenever he was near her. Was she leading Blayne on? “Blayne I…”
“No take backs. You agreed to a do-over and I am holding you to your word. Either way, you with me or you with Rigs, if it’s meant to be then nothing and no one can stop it.”
That made sense. Plus she did feel like she owed Blayne. He saved her and Rigs had messed up their date night. “Alright, a do-over it is.”
*****
“How are your friends?”
Caroline turned away from the hospital window and looked at her girlfriend Abbey. “What?”
“I asked how your friends are? Did anyone get seriously hurt?”
Caroline shook her head. “No. Some bumps and bruises. Blayne and Trevon got the worst of it.”
“And what about the others? Rigs, Bay, and...Lacey?” Abbey asked.
“They’re all fine. I saw Rigs and Lacey together on campus.” She poured a glass of water and handed it to Abbey.
“I can’t believe a bomb went off. You could have been there and gotten hurt.”
“I left in time. But don’t worry about that. Just concentrate on getting better.”
Abbey sipped her water but she kept her eyes on Caroline. “What’s wrong? Something has been bothering you since you’ve been back.”
“Rigs thought that I had something to do with the bombing.”
“That’s ridiculous. I can’t believe they would think such a thing.” Abbey tried to sit up further. Caroline came over and calmed her down.
“It’s okay. I guess I just have a terrorist personality or something.” She tried to make a joke out of it but deep down it did hurt that those closest to her would think so little of her.
“Bull shit. They were just scared and needed to point the blame on someone. You were their scapegoat.” Abbey defended her.
Caroline smiled as she sat on the side of the bed. She leaned down and kissed Abby’s lips softly. “My defender.”
“Damn straight.”
They stared into each other’s eyes. Caroline gently brushed Abbey’s hair out of her eyes with her fingers. “You should have told me things were getting worse for you.”
“I thought I could handle the dreams.”
“Can you remember them now?”
Abbey shook her head. “Not really. I hear a man’s voice whispering to me.”
“What is he saying?”
“I don’t know. I never know what he’s saying. But he’s telling me to do something I don’t want to do. But I can’t refuse him. When I try, there’s all this pain…”
“You couldn’t take the pain so you cut yourself?”
“It’s one of many things I have done to try to escape his voice and the pain.” Abbey admitted. “The dream seems fuzzy but the man’s voice is so real at times.”
“We’ll get you help. I’m here for you and I am not going anywhere.” Caroline reassured her.
Abbey reached up and caressed Caroline’s cheek. Caroline leaned into her palm. “How could your friends think anything bad about you? But then again, you put on a show for everyone else to make them think you don’t care.”
“You saw through that though didn’t you baby.”
Abbey smiled. “It’s a way to protect yourself so that others couldn’t hurt you. I, more than anyone, could relate to that.”
“Are you going to be okay at home or do you need to stay here a few more days? I have classes that start next week that I can’t miss if I want to finally graduate.”
Abbey sighed. “Honestly, I think I need to be observed a few more days. I feel this uneasiness inside of me. I’m afraid of what I might do.”
“Okay then. I’ll speak with someone to see if they can extend your stay.” Caroline was relieved that they would be someone to watch over Abbey. Her episodes were getting worse and worse. It really shook her up and she faced the fact that she could have lost her for good this time. She would do anything to protect Abbey, anything.

EXCERPT:
“Why are you here, Luke?” she asked softly, tipping her head to look up at him. In the shadows of the night, he looked lethal and sexy as hell. His granite sharp jaw working with tension, and his full lips pursed in thought.
“I needed to see you again.”
She shook her head, “Why? Didn’t we say everything we needed to say last night? You’re a young, sexy, single guy looking for a one-night stand, and I’m a tired, single mom. That’s like trying to mix oil and water. It won’t work.”
“You think I’m sexy?” he asked, the corner of his mouth curving up. She laughed, and shook her head. “Look, Tavi, I don’t know why I’m here, or honestly how I ended up here.” The genuine look of confusion on his face concerned her, but it was the honesty in his eyes when he lowered to a crouch in front of her, that really stole her heart. “I feel like there’s something in my chest that’s connected to you. When I try to stay away it pulls me back. I don’t understand it, and I don’t know how else to explain it, but it’s there. I don’t know shit about relationships, so I can’t promise you more, but—”
“Did you hit your head, Luke? I have a daughter. I don’t do one-night stand, and I sure as hell don’t do them with men who stalk me.” She interrupted, frustrated by the deep desire in her heart to say yes.
“Stalk you?”
She gestured around them, “Well I don’t see you visiting so often for the ambiance.”
“I’m not trying to stalk you. Shit. I just want to spend some time with you.”
“So what, you’re going to get to know me out of curiosity?”
“No! Yes. Maybe? I don’t know.” He looked so confused and frazzled that it made Tavi’s heart ache for him. She wasn’t sure she wanted him to know how strong the feelings in her own body were right now.
“When you do know what you want, you know where to find me.” She stood and turned to leave, only to run smack into his hard chest. With a startled yelp she clutched his shirt to keep from falling over. She had no idea how he’d moved so quickly, but she didn’t have time to ask before his mouth came down on hers.
She might have chalked up yesterday’s physical reaction to a fluke, but as he pulled her in close and ravished her mouth she felt her heart pounding in her chest. This was no fluke. This was passion, and a perfect feeling of rightness in the world. Luke fit her like a puzzle piece, and together they were explosive.
Pulling back, she ended the kiss with a gasp of fresh air and a groan of disappointment. There was no way she could keep putting him off if he kept kissing her.
“Luke, I can’t.”
His eyes flashed in the shadows of the night, and she could see his jaw muscle clenching in frustration. “Why?”
“I’ve already told you why. I don’t want either of us to get hurt. You aren’t what I need in my life.” She backed away from him, pulling her coat tight around her chest to combat the icy cold air on her scorching hot body.
“How do you know that if you won’t even get to know me?”
She shook her head and fought back tears. “I’ve already survived one man who convinced me to listen to my body instead of logic.”
A heavy silence settled between them, and Tavi felt torn. Her instincts were telling her to throw herself back into his arms and hold on for dear life. She wanted to spend eternity wrapped up in his embrace. But it just wasn’t the right thing for her, or her daughter.
“I’ve got to get back to work. Go home, Luke, and forget this ever happened.” She made it to the parking lot before he spoke again, but his words echoed in her head for the rest of the night.
“I can’t. I wish I could baby, but I can’t.”
