WATCH: Home of South Carolina Judge and Former State Senator Burned to the Ground — 3 Hospitalized | The Gateway Pundit
South Carolina Judge Diane Goodstein and Former State Senator Arnold Goostein’s beachfront home in Edisto Island was burned to the ground on Saturday, sending three family members to the hospital.
The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is estimated to be worth $1,155,200.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. According to FITS News, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel suggested that they are looking into possible arson.
South Carolina Chief Justice John Kittridge said, “We do not know whether the fire was accidental or arson.
Until that determination is made, Chief Keel has alerted local law enforcement to provide extra patrols and security.”
Goodstein was first elected by the South Carolina General Assembly as a Resident Circuit Judge in 1998, according to her biography.
Husband Arnold Goodstein, who was transported to the hospital with broken bones in his hips, legs, and feet after leaping from the burning home, previously served as a Democratic South Carolina State Senator and State Representative.
Video from the fire shows the entire house engulfed in flames, leaving just a pile of ash.
Watch below via WCBD News 2:St. Paul’s Fire District said in a social media post that emergency crews accessed the scene using kayaks to rescue occupants, who jumped from an elevated area to escape:
The SPFD received reports of a structure with entrapment on Edisto Island from our automatic aid partners, Edisto Beach Fire Department. Engine 1403 and Tender 1403 along with Battalion 1407 were first due followed by Edisto Beach Engine 14 and Ladder 14.
Due to our strong working relationship with the EBFD, crews went right to work extinguishing the fire and looking for occupants. This area is located on a barrier island with significant challenges such as limited water supply and tight areas.
The first arriving crews worked flawlessly together to ensure the safety of the occupants which escaped via jumping from and elevated first floor. Due to the remoteness and layout of the lot, the occupants had to be rescued from the backyard via kayaks and brought to Colleton County EMS where they received medical aid.
SPFD Engine 1407 caught a draft from a nearby pond to secure water supply. Additional units from the SPFD responded for manpower as well to include Engine 1408, Rescue 1401, Tenders 1401, 1402, 1405 and 1407 along with Battalion 1401. Due to the large impact of this incident, most of our units had to relocate to ensure the SPFD residents still had adequate protection during this time.
The Charleston Fire Dept. was requested to help backfill some of our stations to ensure we remained fully covered during this incident.
This incident showed that your SPFD and its surrounding partners are willing, able, and competent, to handle any type of call for service due to the commitments we have along with the strong working relationships we have built to respond appropriately.
Your SPFD prides itself on producing adequate water supply in remote areas and delivery the best possible service to all of its citizens and surrounding neighborhoods. Strong work by all.
This is a developing story.

Senator John Thune Weighs in on Government Shutdown – “Democrats Just Need to Open Up the Government. Right Now, We Are at a Stalemate” (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit
Senate Majority Leader John Thune was on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo to discuss the Democrats and the ongoing government shutdown.
“Where do the negotiations stand today?” Bartiromo asked Senator Thune.
“Well, there is not a lot to negotiate, Maria. The Democrats just need to open up the government. Right now, we are at a stalemate. They’ve now voted four times. We’ve given them the opportunity, a clean, non-partisan, short-term funding resolution that continues government funding for the next seven weeks, and on four occasions now, they have voted against it,” Thune said.
“What’s happening here is the Democrats are trying to hijack a short-term, non-partisan continuing resolution to fund the government merely for seven weeks to give us an opportunity to get the appropriations process done to try and get one and a half trillion dollars of new spending, make healthcare in this country, free healthcare available to non-citizens in this country,” Thune said of the Democrats.
“The Democrats need to come to that realization and understand their option in front of them here is to open up the government and then we can talk about all of these other things they want to have a conversation about,” Senator Thune said.
“There are expectations out there from analysts that this shutdown could last weeks, not days. How long are you expecting this to go on?” Bartiromo asked.
Senator Thune explained that getting the government open depended on Democrats willingness to vote with the Republicans to get at least the minimum of 60 votes to pass legislation.
“I think it’s just as long as the Democrats want it go to on. I mean, they are the ones, they have the controlling card right now,” Thune said.
“All we need is another five Democrat Senators to join us to get the 60 votes that are necessary to pass legislation in the Senate,” Thune continued.
Senator Thune also explained that the leadership of the Democrats in the Senate is responsible for the shutdown because they are controlled by interest groups that are on the far-left.
“This is a Schumer shutdown. Chuck Schumer instigated this at the behest of a bunch of far-left, liberal interest groups, but there are Democrats who are reaching out to Republicans, having conversations about how we might be able to get the government opened up again,” Thune continued.
“This is a very costly endeavor for the Democrats to take because it really does hurt people across this country,” Thune said.
“Have you identified five more that you think could actually vote with Republicans?” Bartiromo asked.
“There are conversations ongoing Maria, where Democrats who I think realize this is a losing strategy for them and it really ends in a dead end, want to find an offramp here and are talking to Republicans,” Thune said.
“I think right now their leadership is stuck because these left-wing special interest groups are so adamant in their desire to fight President Trump,” Thune explained.

Trump reallocates $1.8 billion in foreign aid —$400 million for Hispanic America— aimed at curbing cartels, authoritarian regimes, and Chinese influence
The reallocation of $1.8 billion in foreign aid by the Trump administration, including $400 million for Latin America, represents a key opportunity to advance U.S. national security through a strategic and disciplined approach.
Resources must be directed toward dismantling criminal networks, countering authoritarian influence, and protecting American interests, prioritizing concrete actions to maximize impact.
The strategic priorities to follow are:
• Target the cartel-state nexus (Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua).
• Counter Chinese influence through alternative financing and infrastructure resilience.
• Block narco-terrorist logistics (maritime and aviation interdiction).
• Confront authoritarian disinformation campaigns.
• Strengthen institutions and build partner capacity in governance, prosecution, and compliance.
Target the Cartel-State Nexus
Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles, designated a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization in July 2025, demonstrates how state power fuses with organized crime.
Nicaragua’s Ortega-Murillo regime and Cuba’s intelligence services also benefit from drug trafficking, illicit mining, and human smuggling. Aid should be used for sanctions-ready investigations, financial tracing, and prosecutions.
Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned the Cartel de los Soles as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

Counter China’s Influence in Hispanic America
China has expanded its presence through loans, port access, and telecom infrastructure. The 2025 SOUTHCOM Posture Statement warns that Beijing’s projects create long-term security risks.
U.S. aid should:
Provide transparent alternatives to PRC infrastructure and port financing.Help governments audit and renegotiate predatory loan terms.Secure digital networks against PRC-controlled telecom providers.Block Narco-Terrorist Logistics
Cocaine, fentanyl precursors, and weapons move through regime-protected maritime and aviation corridors. The DOJ indictment of Nicolás Maduro and senior officials highlights the depth of state-criminal convergence.
50-something countries around the world do not recognize Nicolás Maduro as the rightful president. He’s not the president of Venezuela. That’s a title he’s given himself. –@SecRubio pic.twitter.com/pYpfLMkmuT
— Department of State (@StateDept) September 16, 2025
Redirected aid should:
Expand maritime and aviation interdiction intelligenceDeploy radar, drones, and sensors across Caribbean chokepoints.Support quick-turn forecast cells for interdiction partners.Confront Authoritarian Disinformation
Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua amplify hostile propaganda with support from Russia, China, and Iran. Aid must fund:
A Spanish-language disinformation monitoring hub.Programs to strengthen independent media resilience.Integration of disinformation tracking with sanctions and cyber defense.Strengthen Institutions & Build Partner Capacity
Authoritarian regimes thrive on corruption. Aid must strengthen institutional resilience while empowering allies. GAO has documented weaknesses in counternarcotics oversight.
Train customs, port, and procurement officials to detect corruption.Support auditors and prosecutors handling complex financial crimes.Deliver OSINT and compliance training for prosecutors, coast guards, and banks.Build maritime and aviation interdiction capacity across partner nations. This debate is not about how much the U.S. spends, but how aid is used. Redirected resources must:
Disrupt cartel-state economies.Counter Chinese and authoritarian influence.Stop cocaine and fentanyl flows at their source.Strengthen partners against corruption.Every dollar must weaken adversaries and protect American families — or it is wasted. Redirected aid must not be misused for partisan or ideological projects.
It is a strategic weapon for national defense, and America’s safety depends on it.

BREAKING: Judge Holds Emergency Hearing on Trump’s Deployment of California National Guard Troops to Portland – GRANTS MOTION TO BLOCK ALL NEW TROOPS | The Gateway Pundit
US District Judge Karin Immergut held an emergency hearing Sunday evening after President Trump circumvented her previous order halting troop deployment to Portland.
Last weekend, President Trump authorized troops to Portland, Oregon, and other Democrat-run cities to protect ICE agents from Antifa terrorists and other radical far-left groups.
“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump previously said on Truth Social.
Right on cue, Democrat-run Oregon sued the Trump Administration to stop the deployment of troops.
Judge Immergut, on Saturday, blocked President Trump’s National Guard deployment to Portland.
On Saturday evening, Judge Immergut, a Trump appointee, issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and blasted President Trump’s decision to deploy troops.
The TRO will expire on October 18.
The judge warned that Trump’s justification to deploy troops to Portland may send the country into a constitutional crisis.
On Sunday, President Trump called up hundreds of California National Guard Troops to Portland to circumvent the judge’s order blocking Oregon National Guard Troop deployment.
Trump is also activating up to 400 Texas National Guard troops for deployment to Oregon, Illinois and other states amid violent, anti-ICE protests.
BREAKING: Trump deploys California national guard that is under federal control to Portland & Portland files a second TRO. Court has set hearing for 7 p.m., which should be now. 1/ pic.twitter.com/J0UggupZkN

California joined Oregon’s request for a second TRO to block the latest troop deployment.
Judge Immergut fumed during Sunday night’s hearing before she granted Oregon and California’s motion to block the new troop deployment.
BREAKING: Immergut has *granted* Oregon and California’s motion to block the new call-up of Guard troops to Portland. She says this effort to bring CA and TX troops to Oregon is in “direct contravention” of her oroginal order.
— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) October 6, 2025
The judge blocked ALL troop to deployment to Oregon.
15/ Plaintiff: Appropriate to issue a second order with broader scope to incorporate reasoning, “exploited” b/c TRO limited to Oregon, so we want to prohibit stay federalized members of any national guards of any state or district of columbia. Judge: That’s what I will do, I will…
