Eight Things meme

Two people tagged me in this today, and I do try to be obedient to the tag!

One Insecurity: Disappointing people. Pretty typical, I
guess.

Two Fears: Spiders.
It’s a big enough fear to count for two

Three Turn-ons: Intelligence, humour, and that magical,
illusive happy medium between hopeless loser/”nice guy”/always “friendzoned”
because he’s actually an insecure creep, and arrogant asshole who poses next to
his car on tinder. Just – someone who seems like a normal person, not a typical
anything.

Four Life Goals: Well, having lived a bit already, I’ve
already accomplished a few of them. I’ll add: getting my novel finished &
published, conducting the choral version of Barber’s Adagio for Strings, going
back to the Middle East, and becoming properly
fluent in German.

Five Things I Like: Martin Freeman, autumn, conducting my
choir, teaching (English or voice lessons), ducks

Six Weaknesses: Six?? Six seems like a lot, is all I’m
saying. :P Okay: I have a weakness for other people’s dogs. It’s very difficult
to resist the urge to pet them. I’m also a bit of a procrastinator, which is
aided and abetted by my naturally contrary personality. If I know that I have a
specific time set apart just to work on one project, my contrary self will
decide we’d rather do basically anything but that. But then I do get other
things done, so – all good? It often happens at, and this is my fourth one, the
expense of getting enough sleep, though. I’m really good at getting by on not
much, but I know it isn’t healthy. I’m bad at remembering to drink enough
water. And I have a bit of a temper – though, to be fair, I have zero ability
to hold a grudge. One flash of temper and then it’s over. :)

Seven Things I Love: Benedict Cumberbatch, Johnlock
(the ship & both characters), sushi, going to the beach, my dog, my mom,
writing

Eight people to tag: @myladylyssa, @librarylock, @like-a-best-friend-but-more, @jezebelgoldstone, @agenttanha, @anotherwellkeptsecret, @dallonginsberg, and @alavecia. (As ever, I never know who to tag, so I just look at my activity and tag the most recent people to have left notes or reblogged my posts or sent messages. It’s pretty random!)

Hey folks! A friendly freebatcher needs an invite for an ao3 account to read my freebatch trilogy. She’s applied but sometimes they lose things and she hasn’t heard back. Has anyone got an invite they could send to @suchitapanda? It would be really appreciated! You can contact her directly! :)

bc & his re-used clothing

i see a lot of comments on here about BC and his ubiquitous t-shirts etc.

it reminds me that at sydney comic con in 2014 he spoke at length (amongst other things) about trying to leave a smaller carbon footprint despite his exalted life, and one way he continually uses to address this was by re-using the same clothing whenever he could….

I love him for it

Q&A With Sue Vertue by Luis Moffat about the ShSpesh!

Louis (not Luis!!) is so cute, heh. And Sue is lovely, as ever. :) Sounds like we’re not getting any backstory on Mary in the special, but then, if it is indeed an unrelated one-off as Sue says here, it wouldn’t apply to canon even if there was, so - ??? I guess we’ll see.

This is so perfect, hahahahaha! They are so, so stupid. I hate them. (I love them.) I want to help them. BUT HOW.

silentauroriamthereal:

I have a question for all of you who love Mary as a villain. This is just pure curiosity, by the way; I’m not trying to start drama or anything. I’m just wondering how you would potentially feel or react if, in series 4, Mary is not portrayed as a villain in any way, John’s forgiveness was real, and their relationship is apparently fine? Let’s just assume you’ve said all of the “but that would never happen!” type things and go to the hypothetical place of “but let’s just say that’s what does happen”. What would you think of that?

I feel that there’s been too much built up that points in the direction of her being a villain–her lack of remorse, her condescending attitude, never asking for forgiveness, the way she’s framed and portrayed, etc.. I think that just having the forgiveness be genuine would be a major cop-out and even though I have a strong feeling that Mary won’t last forever it would still be very disappointing! It would do a huge disservice to Mary’s character to have her suddenly be totally ok after this huge unresolved villainous moment that a whole episode was based around. Lots of little things are filmed a certain way for a certain reason… Maybe it’s just the meta talking but I don’t think Mary was meant to be forgiven by the audience.

But what if she’s just meant to be seen as “sassy”, or a Strong Female Character ™ and that her absolutely chemistry-less*, emotionally abusive snark-fest with John is supposed to be seen as “loving banter” or something, much in the style of Amy and -> Rory in Doctor Who? I’m just - I feel very cautious about everything, that’s all. It sure seemed that like they that Mary would be absolutely adored and revered in fan events following the release of series 3, so I just don’t even know. And there certainly is a giant faction of the fandom who do feel that way, too! (I’m scared.)

*ok, there’s some chemistry in the sense of the old-married thing, which I think comes directly and only from the fact that it’s Martin and Amanda, but there’s nothing in the way of newly-wed, head-over-heels in love-type chemistry, at least not in my eyes!!

My novel is finally rolling again! It just passed the 50,000 word mark and I know exactly what I’m doing for the rest of the chapter! This was my dreaded midway stall point and I’m so glad it’s moving again!!!
