Book Spotlight: Soulmate by Deatri King-Bey
Introducing Soulmate by Deatri King-Bey
The heart of the Precious Jewels Security Agency, Pearl Nicolas’s life has become one undercover assignment after the next. Happy, yet jealous, that her sisters are finding their soulmates, Pearl reluctantly accepts there is no soulmate out there for her… Or is there?
Tariq Suárez Anzar’s life changed when he became a single father of a teen. When a possible drug ring is suspected on his daughter’s prep school campus, the Precious Jewels are called in to find out exactly what is going on. But Tariq discovers so much more—Pearl. From the first moment they met, everything within him screamed, “She is your soulmate!”
Timing would be perfect for Tariq to go after his soulmate except one tiny thing—his daughter is Pearl’s only lead in the case. Patient as much as he is determined, he will not let this once in a lifetime chance slip by to have the family he wants.
Excerpt:
Amber had never been more right in her life! Pearl continued staring at the headshot of Tariq Suárez Aznar in the Newton Academy’s staff gallery on the school’s website via her iPad. Teachers were not supposed to look like this. Had Professor Suárez been her math instructor, she wouldn’t have learned a thing from dreaming about him all day.
Sincere hazel eyes to gaze into, strong facial features to admire, lips plump enough for kissing, short wavy hair to run her fingers over—if his body were half as nice, she’d never solve the case from drooling over the man.
Resisting the urge to conduct a background check on him, she turned off her tablet and put it away. He’d hired them and deserved his privacy. This was business. Plus a man like him had to be married. Then again, what would she do with a boring teacher anyway? Good looks be damned, she needed a man who could keep up with her. One whose lifestyle matched hers enough that they wanted to share their lives together. She wanted someone who didn’t exist—her soulmate.
Disheartened, she walked from the bench in the main office over to the bulletin board. Pep rally, fundraiser, Halloween party, volleyball game schedule, football game schedule, math club meetings, science club meeting… nothing out of the ordinary.
“Excuse me, Ms. Nicholas?”
That soft, sexy voice had to belong to the new star of her fantasies. Much calmer than she felt, she turned and smiled politely. “Yes. Oh, Mr. Suárez.” Following Spanish tradition, she said his middle name, which was his father’s family name.
Appreciation burned in his bright eyes as he took her in from head to toe. She knew when a man was attracted to her, and Mr. Suárez definitely was.

Rockin' Reads

Hello All!
I hope all is well. It's release day over here! Yay! Now I get to take a little break and get to do some reading of my own. So far this year I've read quite a few books that have rocked and today I'm going to share them with you.
I've read a lot of books by my friend and sister writer Christina C. Jones! Her Serendipitous Love Series and If You Can Series are my favorite.
I also read Liliana Hart's latest two books in her MacKenzie Security series, Sizzle and Crave. Very good suspense romance.
Brenda Novak's latest book in the Whiskey Creek series, This Heart of Mine was a very sweet story about forgiveness and falling in love again and I'm looking forward to the next book.
I also inhaled Melanie Schuster's book A Fool for You, book seven in her Cochran/Devereaux series which was recently released in ebook format! I'm looking forward to catching up with the rest of the series.
Finally, I got to read Brenda Jackson's final book in her Granger's series A Lover's Vow and the mystery we've been trying to figure out since book one was finally revealed.
I've enjoyed most of the books I've read so far this year and am looking forward to reading many more.
Especially the upcoming holiday reads!
What's in your TBR pile?
Make sure you keep hopping and find some other book faves for this year so far.

Checking In
Hey guys!
Just wanted to hop on and make a quick post. Earlier this evening I finished writing the first draft of Destined, book 4 in the Coalton Texas Novella series. It's the fourth full story I've written this year. So far I've written A Spring Affair, Sultry Summer Nights, Autumn Kisses. I also finished writing Just One Night, which I started working on last year. It will be my seventh publish work for this year, sixteenth over all.
I'm very happy with the story, but I've been feeling a bit...I don't know...in awe? I'm not even sure if that's the right word. The story flowed so well and I loved the way it ended up happening.
I think I may have tried to drag out writing in, because part of me knew this was the second to the last story in this series. Irresistible will be the final story in this series.
Of course I'm a firm believer in never say never, but for the time being I feel like this will be the end for Coalton. And I'm finding it hard to say goodbye. This series morphed into more than I would have imagined, and I love it so much.
I hope you've enjoyed the journey we've gone on with Coalton so far and I think you will enjoy the last two stories with Camille and Nathan in Destined and Trevor and Brooke in Irresistible.
I will be combining all of the stories to sell them in an anthology. I'm looking to publish that by the beginning of 2016.
Next on my writing list is A Winter Rendezvous (the final book in the Four Seasons of Love Series) and Irresistible. Not sure which one I will write first, but both will be bittersweet since they are both the final books in each series.
I'm feeling oddly emotional right now. Lol...I can't quite explain it. I just feel incredibly blessed to be able to do what I love and share it with readers who enjoy it. And I feel like I've got so much more in me to share.
We've barely begun to scratch the surface...

Blog Tour: Same Time Next Week by DL White
Today I'm featuring DL White and her latest release Same Time Next Week! And she will be having a giveaway! So make sure you check it out at the end!
Book Blurb
From the author of ANONYMOUS and Brunch at Ruby's comes a decadent, sexy, indulgent Interracial Romance.
In a past life, Jackson Sweeney, child star and former member of award winning male vocal group 'Boy Wonder', was more rich and famous than he'd ever imagined he could be. But that was then. Now he's returning home to Orlando to take on a new job-- Music Director to rock's reigning Prince, Rod Phillips. On an early morning shopping trip, he meets a disheveled insomniac named Shelby.
Shelby Morris is a troubled young woman in hiding and on the run. Her past involves a fiery accident, a murder accusation and an escape from Miami in the dead of night. She doesn't sleep, so she wanders until dawn. On a warm twilight morning, she happens upon music's most eligible bachelor at the grocery store.
Sparks fly, especially the next morning when they accidentally-on-purpose meet up again. After a flirty first date, they decide to meet up again the next week. And the next. And the next. Soon, Thursdays come to mean decadent chocolate cake, sweet red wine and two bodies intertwined.
Every attempt to get to know this beautiful, mysterious woman is rebuffed; Shelby is cagey, full of secrets that can't be pried from her. Jackson can't risk another relationship where he gives more than he gets... but Thursdays have become a habit that his body can't do without.
Eight seconds turns Shelby's life on end, luring an old enemy from the shadows. Jackson is poised to learn more than she ever wanted him to know about the woman she used to be. And this time, her mistakes could hurt someone she's come to love.
This summer, Thursdays will never be the same…

Excerpt:
The cage of the grocery cart rattled on wobbly wheels as he slowly pushed it up one aisle and down another. Jackson wasn’t much of a cook but he could make easy dishes if the directions were clear. He loved those one box meals– pour it in a pan, shove it in the oven. Warm up some rolls and there you have it. It was nothing fancy, but it was dinner. And if he couldn’t stop by a Taqueria in the middle of the night and get a burrito, the least he could do was have something easy to make and warm up when he got home.It was going to be a long year. The store was virtually empty; a few cashiers, an overnight manager who didn’t even look up when he walked past the Customer Service counter, stock boys refilling shelves and maintenance gliding over the floors with dust mops, emptying garbage cans, washing windows. It seemed like a peaceful job, if you were a night owl. Not a lot of people around to bug you, pretty much the same deal, night after night after night. Maybe, when he was done with all of this music industry business, he could retire and work at a grocery store, and work overnights, and make it his job to see that the windows sparkled, and the floors were clean, and the shelves were stocked.Yeah, right.Jackson heard the front doors slide open and then close again. Someone else liked shopping at 4 AM, it seemed. He’d made his way around most of the store, his cart only half full of boxed food, cereal, milk and bottled water. He stopped at the vitamin section, overwhelmed with all of his choices—One-A-Day for Men, One-A-Day for Energy, Vitamins added C, D, and E…He pushed his cart, steering it toward the next aisle. With a loud rattle and the vibrant clang of steel on steel, he collided with something he couldn’t see around the bend.“Sorry, sorry. My fault.”“It’s okay,” said a female voice from around the corner. “I’m sort of not paying attention, either.”His cart wouldn’t pull back for some reason, no matter how hard he pulled, so he had to walk around and inspect the wheels. As he expected, he’d rammed the other cart so hard that the wheels rode up and got caught in the rungs at the bottom of the other cart. The harder he pulled, the more he was melding them together.“Uhm. Our carts seem to be uh… intertwined, here.” Jackson bent and pushed and pulled and tipped and twisted, and finally they came apart, rolling away like they couldn’t stand to be near each other.“Thanks. Sorry, I guess I wasn’t looking where I was going.” Jackson stood, wiping oil and dirt off of his hands onto his jeans, reaching out for his cart before it knocked boxes off of the shelves. He redirected it and lifted raised his face to hers. “No problem. It was my fault, anyway.”She smiled back and for a millisecond everything was fine. And then he saw it, in her eyes. Recognition. That look that women got when they realized who was standing in front of them, that split second of trying to decide if they should freak out or play it cool, say something or let it go, ask for a picture or an autograph and a serenade, or respect his privacy. “Well, it was nice running into you,” she said, her smile a little wider. She had a dimple. It was cute. She was cute, despite a half up, half down messy pony tail and an inside out t-shirt. Her eyes were red-rimmed, though and she looked tired. "Maybe we’ll do it again sometime.” She was going with playing it cool. Good choice.“Sure,” he said with a chuckle. “Anytime you’re out shopping at five in the morning, I’m game.” “It’s a date. Well… I’ll let you get back to your… shopping.” He watched her back up and steer her cart around him, on her own trek through the store. He might be missing Kim but he was still a man with a libido and still knew what a pretty woman looked like. He could only imagine how she looked when she tried. He poked his head around an end cap that boasted 50% off of Flintstone Vitamins, Bayer Aspirin, and Calamine lotion and watched her walk toward the frozen food section. His eyes fixed on two perfectly formed cheeks, hugged and outlined by the fabric of her yoga pants as they moved with her slow, sexy sway across the dull linoleum. His eyes roved up her body quickly before she could move out of his line of sight to her thin waist, slight shoulders and long neck. He wished he’d paid more attention to the front of her, but the back of her wasn’t a bad view at all. She turned her head as she was about to go down an aisle. He quickly ducked back behind the end cap. Flushed and embarrassed, he pulled his cart down his own aisle and headed toward checkout. Praying she hadn’t seen him leering at her like a creepy old man.But afraid that she had.

Olivia’s dreams have finally begun to come true, as she marries the man who’s held her heart
for twenty years. Her beauty salon is prospering, and she has begun rebuilding her team, after seeds of discord were sowed and bonds were broken. Everything is beginning to look up, or so she thinks. When a scandal is leaked to the media, Olivia’s dream of expanding is in jeopardy. She must step up and play hard ball in a game with which she’s unfamiliar.
Nikki had dreams of building a beautiful family with a loving husband. But after looking at the
shattered pieces of her broken life, she is losing hope and desires more. She wants more than the shame of barrenness, and more than physical abuse from his drinking binges. One phone call gives her courage to escape the deadly clutches of her husband. Yet, when she finds strength in another’s arms she finds herself spinning more lies. Nikki’s web of deceit is going to cost all those who are close and it could just cost her, her life.
When deception is the name of the game, who all will have to share the pain?
EXCERPT:
The pain was easing up somewhat as Nikki and Wesley entered the breezeway at his apartments. Unlocking the door, his eyes softened when he looked at her face once again.
She saw a mixture of anger and compassion nestled there.
“What?” she asked when he continued to stare at her longer than what she deemed comfortable.
“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head. Wesley led her into a galley kitchen and pulled a sandwich bag from one of the cabinets, filled it with ice, and then wrapped it in a paper towel before applying it to her face.
She was in awe at the tenderness with which this man handled her. Every time he touched or said a word to her, it was with such protection, like she had never known. This was a side of Wesley that she had not seen in the five years of knowing him.
“Come on,” he said, grabbing her by her free hand and leading her to the back of the apartment. She looked around at his bedroom; not at all what she would have expected for a single man. Decorated in oranges, greens, browns, and yellows, it had a Caribbean look and feel to it. The room was small, but neat and exhibited a nice décor. The full-sized bed sat directly opposite the black-framed, chestnut-colored dresser. To the right of his bed was a small nightstand in the same black framing and chestnut top as the bed and the dresser. To the left of his bed was a double-paned window, with orange, brown, and green curtains blocking out the midday sun. He walked over to the window and opened the curtains halfway and then opened the blinds to allow the sun to stream through.
“I’ll be right back.”
“Where are you going?” she asked with a look of apprehension in her eyes.
His eyebrows lifted slightly. “Just to the bathroom, Nikki. I’ll be back.”
Exhaling a deep breath, she realized that a new fear had come over her. In all the altercations she had endured with Carlos, he had never left her for dead. Why did he leave like that? What if the neighbors didn’t come? I could’ve died in that bathroom, she thought.
She tried to fight back the tears, but they betrayed her. Sucking in her sobs, she stood and walked to his dresser and began looking at his pictures, anything that would take her mind off her problems. There were a couple of him and his father at various stages of his life, a few of some children, and one of a lady she assumed to be his mother. She stood up and walked to the bed, staring at the amazing likeness he had to this woman.
“That’s my mom.”
She jumped at the sound of his voice; she hadn’t heard him return to the bedroom.
“Oh, I didn’t hear you come up. Are you always so quiet?” she asked as he came and stood beside her. She still had not looked at him, wishing she could make the tears disappear from her eyes and face.
“No. Are you always so scary?” he teased. He regretted the words almost the moment he said them. Her body tensed up, and she looked down. Her fear had come as a result of the relationship she was in. She was always tense and on edge, because she never knew what fuse Carlos was about to blow.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m sorry. Here, look at me,” he said, turning her face up towards him. “Why are you crying?” he asked as he wiped her tears away with his fingers.
“I’m sorry. I just...I don’t know.” She couldn’t explain if she wanted to. No one would understand her confusion or pain. She could forgive Carlos if he just had not left her. Didn’t he love her? Didn’t he want to work things out? Maybe he didn’t love her, after all. If he did, he would not have left her there like that.
“Don’t be sorry. You haven’t done anything wrong. I have the feeling you have spent many years apologizing,” Wesley stated.
He lovingly caressed the bruise that had formed on the right side of her face.
“Too beautiful,” Wesley said, being drawn into the power of her presence in his bedroom. “Huh?”
“You. You’re too beautiful for this. I don’t want you to be scared every time people come near you. Relax, okay? Just be...I promise I won’t ever do nothing to hurt you,” he said as he drew her nearer to him. Looking down into her big, dark brown eyes, he felt himself getting lost.
Nikki didn’t know what she was feeling or what was happening between the two of them. And she couldn’t contain herself as he pressed his full firm lips against her soft, lush ones. As their foreheads touched, he continued to gently apply pressure to her lips, asking for permission to enter in.

"Do you want to dance?"Her voice was like a caress against his skin. He turned and came face to face with the gorgeous beauty who he'd been watching dance the night away. They'd locked eyes every once in awhile and she would give him a seductive grin before she spun around and got lost in the music again. Now she was standing in front of him, asking if he wanted to dance with her. He'd turned down every other woman who'd asked. But he was drawn to her unlike any other woman in the club. He downed the rest of his drink before he spoke. "I don't dance much."She gave him that mischievous grin she'd been giving him all night and reached out and grabbed his hand. "That's okay," she said and pulled him out of his chair. She spun around, and shimmied from side to side as a new song began to pulse through the speakers. She turned to face him and pressed her body against his and placed one of his hands low on her waist. "Close your eyes," she whispered into his ear. He felt a little apprehensive at first, worried that he might make a fool of himself, but as if reading his mind, she added, "Don't think, just feel the music and move to it."And then they were dancing. Their hips moved together in time with the sensual music; rolling, grinding and gyrating to the beat. Then she would turn her body, so that her back was facing his front. There was no hiding the desire that she was stirring up inside of him, but she didn't seem to mind as she continued grooving with him to the beat. "I've been watching you dance most of the night," he murmured into her ear."I noticed.""You're quite the dancer.""Thank you. You're not too bad yourself.""So, are you going to tell me your name?" he asked. "No.""No?" he repeated with a raised eyebrow. She shook her head and smiled. "What's the point? We're just sharing a dance.""Well...what if I want to dance with you again sometime?"She pressed her body against his again, and pressed her lips to his ear. "If you find me again, I'll tell you my name."And then she was gone.Dylan Baxter turned around in every direction, and then shoved his way through the crowd searching for his mysterious dance partner, but it was as if she'd disappeared into thin air. He hurried to the exit and looked up and down the street of Ocean Drive of Miami Beach. His first night back had certainly been interesting, but there was one thing he knew for sure. His gut told him that he would see her again. And his gut was almost never wrong.

Dylan let out a frustrated sigh.He yanked the knot out of his tie that once again had ended up looking a mess as he stood in front of the mirror."Come in," he shouted, when he heard the gentle knocking at the door.Julie stuck her head in the room and smiled and it was like a balm to his soul."You're here," he said in a relieved tone."I don't want to get in the way," she said. "I just want to say hi before the ceremony started–"He grabbed her hand, pulled her inside and wrapped his arms around her after slamming the door shut."Dylan, what's wrong?" she asked, pulling away."This stupid tie," he said, holding the fabric up. "I can't get it right."Julie held her hand out. "Give it to me."He handed it over and watched as she effortlessly tied his tie for him. He turned and looked in the mirror and saw that it was perfect. "Now," she said, looking at him through the mirror. "You want to tell me what's really bothering you?"He closed his eyes and hung his head. "I shouldn't be the one doing this today.""Giving your sister away." She rubbed his shoulders that were filled with tension. "You miss him.""I hate that he's not here to see this, to be a part of this.""Dylan...he is here. You and mother have made sure that he is not forgotten on this day.""What if I screw up?""Walking her down the aisle? How could you possibly screw that up? You're just putting one foot in front of the other.""What if I trip over my own feet? Or step on the train of her dress? Or–""Didn't you practice last night at the rehearsal dinner?""Yes.""And did you have any problems then?""No, but–""Dylan, you will be fine. It will all be fine. This is your sister's wedding day, you aren't going to let anything ruin her day. Not even you."Dylan pulled Julie into his arms again for another hug. "I love...that you're here."He wanted to say it. But he wasn't sure how she'd react, so at the last minute, he'd changed his words. "I'm glad to be here too." She took a step out of his arms and headed for the door. "You'll be fine. I'll see you after the wedding."

Julie sat behind the counter off to the side of the studio, absently watching her grandmother teach an adult ballroom class. Her mind wasn't all there though, since she was thinking of Dylan and the kiss he'd surprised her with. It had been several days, yet every time she closed her eyes it felt like he was kissing her right then. Her lips tingled at the thought. Her grandmother's words brought Julie back to the present."Now, normally I have my granddaughter, Julia, present how the waltz should look. Unfortunately, my male student teacher Emilio is out sick today so I guess..."Dottie's voice trailed off and her face broke into a smile. Julie looked out the storefront window to see who her grandmother was smiling at and beckoning into the studio and nearly gasped when Dylan walked in. Dottie told the class she would be right back and made her way over to Dylan, who was making his way over to Julie."Dylan! You walked by just in time, querido!""What can I do for you Miss Dottie?" Dylan said, grinning at both women.Dottie took one of Dylan's hands and one of Julie's and pulled them toward the students."Julie needs a partner to show the class how to waltz."Both Julie and Dylan stopped in their tracks. "Miss Dottie," Dylan started, "You know I'd do anything for you but–""He can't dance, 'Lita," Julie said, cutting off whatever Dylan was going to say.Dottie looked from Julie to Dylan, then waved her hand. "Nonsense! He's a natural."Without giving them a chance to argue, Dottie turned and made her way to the stereo. Julie turned to Dylan with an apologetic look on her face as the music started. "I'm so sorry that she's putting you on the spot like this...I–"Her words were lost as Dylan took her hand, spun her to him and then placed one hand on the small of her back, while holding the other hand with his in the perfect stance to begin a waltz. Julie looked up at him with a shocked look on his face. There was no way he just knew how to do that. His frame was too correct."I knew you could dance," she said.He pulled her a little closer to his body before he pressed his mouth to her ear and said in a whisper, "I never said I couldn't dance...I said I don't dance."And then he was leading her around the dance studio, waltzing with her. She looked up at him and he gave her a small grin."I'm glad I haven't stepped on your toes," he teased. "I'm pretty rusty at this form of dancing."But she never would have known. They were so in sync as they moved, she felt as though they were gliding. The music ended and she eased to a halt. They stood there, with Julie still in Dylan's arms, just gazing at each other. The loud applause snapped Julie out of whatever trance she'd been in and she looked around. An odd feeling began to wash over Julie and she backed out of Dylan's hold."Oh that was beautiful, you two!" Dottie said, hurrying over to them. Julie took a step back suddenly feeling overwhelmed. "Are you all right?" Dylan asked a look of concern clouding his face."I...excuse me," she whispered before turning and running toward the back.
