Sample Sunday: Irresistible

***Unedited***

Trevor loved the way the sound of Brooke's laughter cut through the night air as they raced across the country field behind their back yards on two of her parents' horses. He watched her hair blowing through the wind and he felt like a kid again. But this time, he got the girl.Watching her on top of her horse as it galloped faster and faster, filled his mind with erotic images of what it would be like to have her on top of him instead, riding him with the same passionate frenzy. He squeezed his legs and leaned forward, causing his horse to speed up and soon pass her. After they rode for a little while longer, they slowed down by the pond that was on shared property of the Sinclairs and Matthewses.Trevor hopped off of his horse, then took the reigns of both horses, leading them to the water. After Brooke got off of her horse, they decided to walk for a little while."That was so much fun," Brooke said, as her breathing finally slowed back to normal. "I haven't ridden in years," Trevor admitted."Really?" Brooke asked, surprised. "You used to love to when we were kids."Trevor shrugged. "I used to love to because you used to love to. It wasn't the same after you left.""Why didn't you tell me how you felt in high school?" Brooke blurted out.Trevor stopped walking and turned to look at her.She was staring up at him, the moonlight shining across her gorgeous face. It reminded him of that night when he'd tried to tell her she shouldn't have married Clark."Would it have made any difference to you, if I told you?" Trevor asked. "To you, we were nothing more than neighbors and friends.""You never gave me a chance to look at us as more than that, Trevor. You assumed that I could never see you as more than my friend. But you should have known me well enough to know I was never that shallow."He looked away. "Things were different then. I was different.""I know," she said, sighing. He looked down as she wrapped her soft hand around his. "It's like you said at the game earlier, though. All that matters is what's happening between us right now.""And what's happening?" Trevor asked."I'll tell you what should be happening. While we're standing here under the moonlight, which is quite romantic, you should be kissing me right now."Trevor grinned as he pulled her close to his body. "When you put it that way..."He lowered his head, and met her willing lips. He pulled away after several minutes and led her back to the horses. They hadn't tied the horses up and the last thing they wanted to do was leave them alone too long and have them wander off. After they mounted the horses, Trevor looked over at Brooke and said, "I can't wait to get you on the back of the motorcycle with me. I think you'll love it.""I bet I will," Brooke said. "But until then..."
She made a clicking sound and her horse took off. Trevor laughed and soon he and his horse were chasing after her.

Book Blast: A Gentleman's Agreement by Joy Avery

banner Genre: Contemporary RomanceA GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENTPublication Date: 10-24-2015ASIN: B0172YH9XMAuthor: Joy Avery cooltext1950058583   a_gentlemans_agreement_coverfinal When it comes to love, all deals are off! Blake Farrington knows exactly who to call when he finds himself needing crisis management. Yes, this task is outside Eunice Howard’s usual realm of responsibilities, but he’s willing to make it worth her time. Plus, she’s ideal for the role. Who better to play his pretend lover than the one woman who knows him almost better than he knows himself? The last thing Eunice Howard expects when summoned to her boss’s office is a request to play the role of his new love interest to appease his mother, restless to marry him off. Foolishly agreeing, she ventures with him to Farrington Estates for the Thanksgiving holiday. She thought she’d seen all sides of Blake Farrington, but the man who emerges is a man she could easily love. Their agreement blossoms into a connection neither expected—nor are willing to admit. When the lines between make-believe and reality blur, something phenomenal occurs.   cooltext1950057983 joy_avery1 Joy Avery is a contemporary romance author who loves watching her imaginary friends fall in love. When not crafting her next love story, she enjoys reading, spending time with the family, playing with her two dogs, and cake decorating. She’s the author of the novels Smoke in the Citi, His Until Sunrise (book 1 in the Indigo Falls series), Cupid’s Error-a Valentine’s novella, and His Ultimate Desire (book 2 in the Indigo Falls series).
excerpt   The second they rounded the corner, Eunice snatched her hand away. “What the hell was that?” she asked in a whisper. “What?” He wasn’t truly that clueless, but played so. She released a heavy sigh and hiked up the stairs. Inside the bedroom, he was on her heels—right until the moment she stormed into the bathroom and slammed the door in his face. Blake leaned against the door jamb. “Are you upset?” “Yes. No. I mean—” She cursed under her breath. He couldn’t understand why she’d gotten so distressed. Okay, maybe he’d gone a little overboard, but… Eunice continued. “I don’t know. Did you—” She yelped once the door slung open and he was standing there. He flashed one of his award-winning smiles in hopes of lightening the mood. She pushed him out of the way and moved toward the bed. Her hair was pulled into a high ponytail, and she wore a simple white nightgown shirt. It was sexy as hell. “Did you have to take it that far?” she said. “We’re supposed to be a believable couple, right?” She narrowed her eyes at him. Had she been a bull, he had a feeling this was the moment she would have charged. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize my words would affect you so…deeply. They were pretty poetic, huh?” Eunice snatched a pillow from the bed and hurled it at him. What was with him and women with pillows? “Enjoy the floor, Mr. Poetic.” Blake barked a laugh. Eunice climbed in bed. He sobered. She pulled the covers to her chin. Blake pulled his hands to his waist. “Eunice?” When she didn’t answer, he rested his hand on the back of his neck. “Come on. You can’t be serious. You’re really making me sleep on the floor?” “Goodnight, Prat. Sweet dreams.” There was a hint of laughter in her tone. Frankly, he didn’t find anything funny. “Seriously, that bed is the size of a small island.” “In that case, you should feel privileged. You have the entire ocean to yourself.” Every damn body is a comedian in this house. “Okay. I’ll remember this.” This time, humor played in his tone. “See if you get a Christmas bonus.” He escaped into the bathroom, did his before bed rituals, then returned and made a pallet on the floor. Using the remote, he shut off the lights, then attempted to find a comfortable position. “Blake?” Ah-ha. I knew she’d feel sorry for me. “Mmm-hmm,” he hummed. “Your story… This is going to sound strange, but it actually happened to me in Central Park. Weird, huh?” Not weird at all. Unlike her story, his had been steeped in truth. All except for the approaching her part. Unbeknownst to Eunice, he’d seen her in the park doing exactly what he’d stated. He’d also wanted to ask her out. But before he could, he discovered she’d recently started working for his company. Imagine his surprise when they’d bumped into each other at the annual Spring Fling he threw for his staff. “Huh. Yeah. That is weird.”     cooltext1950060718 download (5) connect socially

Book Review: I'm Losing You by Chicki Brown

If you're like me, you've been waiting with bated breath for the fourth installment of the Stafford Brothers series, I'm Losing You by Chicki Brown.

We've been watching Vic and Ramona through the entire series, felt the tension of their marriage and were left wondering what would happen next after Ramona's antics in book three.

We finally get their story and it did not disappoint.

Vic is the chief of surgery at the hospital he works for and he is run down. He's always on the go and Ramona is constantly trying to get him to spend more time with her and her kids. They've drifted apart in every possible way a couple can in a marriage.

You feel the stress and strain of these two and find yourself wondering what will happen next.

When outside temptations rear their ugly heads, what will Vic and Ramona do? Will they give in, or will they fight to save their marriage?

Miss Brown does a magnificent job of making the reader feel invested in the characters lives, as if you're a part of the Stafford family.

Another job well done and I'm looking forward to the next story with Nick and Cher.

Book Review: Inevitable Conclusions by Christina C. Jones

Inevitable Conclusions by Christina C. Jones is the first in (I hope) a new series.

The story takes us on a journey with Kora and Tariq. Best friends since toddlerhood, off and on lovers most of their adult life, and undeniable soul mates.

We get to watch them as they navigate through their friendship, wanting to become more, trying to become more, but one (or both of them) seeming to get in their own way. But through it all one thing stays constant. They are there for each other: for better or worse, through sickness and health.

Will they make their way to the inevitable conclusion that they are meant to be together?

You'll just have to read it and find out ;-)

Miss Jones does a wonderful job of strapping you into your seat for an emotional rollercoaster of a ride, giving you the highest of highest, dropping you down to the lowest of lows, shocking your senses on the way back up before bringing you to a satisfying stop.

Book Review: Moonlight Kisses by Phyllis Bourne

In book two of the Espresso Empire series by Phyllis Bourne we meet Cole Sinclair, who is working his butt of to revitalize his family's company Espresso Cosmetics. But standing in the way of the much need resuscitation of the company his mother began many moons ago, is Sage Matthews of Stiletto Cosmetics.

Sage's company is an up and coming brand and is taking the world by storm, much to Cole's chagrin. But Cole isn't going down with a fight. He's completely confident that Sage will jump at his offer to buy her company and make her a wealthy woman many times over. What he doesn't expect is the sensuous beauty, or the immediate connection he feels with her, throwing him off of his game a bit.

His game is put into even more of a tailspin when Sage turns down his offer and soon a bitter rivalry ensues. But even while they want to take each other down a peg, they still can't seem to resist the attraction that burns between them and they soon find themselves caught up in passion.

Secrets are revealed and a force bigger than both their companies pops up threatening both Cole's old and dwindling and Sage's new and rising companies and they have to figure out if they can put their business differences aside, while trying to figure out if they can also create a merger of love.

Miss Phyllis Bourne, as usual, keeps you entranced in the story to the very end with the witty banter, the sexual tension, the amazingly steamy love scenes and the heart-warmingness she fills between the pages of her books.

Sample Sunday: from Destined

The first day of the conference had been great. But Nathan found himself looking around often for Camille’s face. He hadn’t had any luck that first night, but his gut told him she was there somewhere. He may not have seen her yet, but he could feel her presence. So the second day of the conference he tried a different tactic. He took his pamphlet that had the schedule of seminars and scanned them to find to ones he figured Camille was more than likely to attend. He’d known Camille for over ten years, and they’d been a couple during half of that time. No one knew her like he’d known her. And he was sure that fact was still true even after having not seen her after three years. His eyes landed on a particular seminar and he circled it.“Bingo,” he murmured with a satisfied grin on his face. He looked at the time the seminar was starting and then down at his watch. He had ten minutes to get to the other side of the resort.Shoving the pamphlet in his back pocket, he quickly made the trek. He was in front of the door when someone rushed past him, knocking the notepad he was holding out of his hand onto the ground. As he crouched down to pick up his notepad, his eyes locked on a pair of long, gorgeous legs in a pair of incredibly high heels.Long, gorgeous, familiar legs. But even if he didn’t recognize those legs, he definitely recognized her scent. He stood slowly and his eyes swept over Camille.“Damn,” he exhaled, as all of the air rushed out of his lungs. He wasn’t sure how it was possible, but she looked even more beautiful than he remembered. She’d clearly been working out, because her already amazing body was now even more toned. The skirt she was wearing that stopped at her knees looked like it had been poured onto her, hugging her trim waist and sexy hips. The sleeveless blouse outline her breasts that he remembered feasting on countless times as he made love to her.Gone was the long, natural hair she’d always worn pulled back into a tight bun or ponytail and in  its place was a sleek chin length bob, that framed her beautiful brown face. And speaking of her face…His eyes locked with hers the moment she noticed him and he watched as her big, pretty brown eyes grew wide with shock. She slowed down her walk for a moment, and took him in. He stood to his full height and cautiously walked toward her.“Hi,” he said.It wasn’t the smooth greeting he’d imagined he’d say if he ever saw her again, but it was the most he seemed to be able to say at the moment.“Hi,” Camille responded.“Been a long time,” he said. Three years, four months, and six days, but who’s counting, he thought, but was definitely not going to say out loud.“Yeah,” she said, nodding. “It has been. You’re…uh…you’re looking well.”“So are you.”She looked down at her watch. “I don’t wan to seem like I’m brushing you off, but this seminar is about to start and I don’t want to miss it.”“It’s cool,” Nathan said. He opened the door for her and she once again looked surprised when he followed her in.“You’re coming to this seminar?” she asked in disbelief.“Why wouldn’t I?” he asked, smiling.“Because you’ve always hated seminars like this.”“Maybe I’ve grown to enjoy them over the years,” he said. She studied him for a moment, not convinced by his words. “Somehow I doubt that.” Then she turned and searched for a seat.It was just his luck that the room was just about to capacity and the only seat left was across the room, facing Camille. Which meant he would be able to see her during the entire lecture. He would have preferred being able to sit right next to her, but this was the next best thing. He watched as she settled into her seat, crossed her legs and sat her notebook on her lap, ready to take notes. Her gaze briefly slid in his direction, but when she noticed that he was looking at her, she quickly averted her eyes. The speaker was announced and everyone clapped as he walked up to the podium. As he began talking, Nathan found himself completely distracted. There was no way he would be able to focus for the next two hours on anything but the woman who used to be his entire world.
Or at least should have been.

Today Chicki Brown visits to share from her latest releas...

Today Chicki Brown visits to share from her latest release I'm Losing You, book 4 in the Stafford Brothers series.

If you follow my blog, you know that I LOVE this series, so I've been waiting with bated breath for this release ever since Mona's shenanigans in Don't Stop Till You Get Enough.

And you also know that I love Chicki's musical themed book titles!

Keep reading to learn more about the book and read a steamy little excerpt!
About the book :

Vic and Ramona Stafford have been together for fifteen years and married for twelve. To the outside world they have everything most people dream of – an attractive spouse, a beautiful home, two smart, good looking sons, and a half-million dollar annual income. But no one knows what’s really going on between them. Do they have what it takes to keep professional pressure, loneliness and outside temptations from destroying their seemingly perfect marriage?

Excerpt :Mona made sure the boys showered and got ready for bed before she returned to the master bedroom where Vic was watching TV. He didn’t say a word to her while she searched through her dresser for something to sleep in, but she felt his gaze on her. If only Maite wasn’t occupying the pool house, she’d go out there and spend the night. He obviously wasn’t leaving their bedroom. Once she chose an unsexy baseball-style nightshirt and retrieved a tube of make-up remover from the bathroom, she went down the hall to one of the guestrooms. No one had slept in the room since houseguests visited last year. Mona undressed, removed her make-up and crawled into the bed. Sometime later, after she’d given up on squeezing her eyes shut and trying to make sleep come, she sensed she was no longer alone. When she turned over and blinked, she saw Vic standing just inside the doorway, his tall form just barely illuminated by the light from the hall. She cringed. Was he actually coming to continue their argument? God, she was still livid from their earlier confrontation. Rather, he surprised her when he wordlessly moved toward the bed, pulled back the covers and slid in beside her without a word. “Vic, this isn’t–” she started to protest until he pulled her into his arms and his mouth came down on hers in a punishing kiss. As much as she wanted to refuse, the force of his kiss and the urgent hardness pressed against her stomach rendered her incapable. It had been months since he’d made love to her, and she couldn’t resist him. She didn’t want to resist him. The satin smoothness of his skin and the fragrance of his signature cologne, combined with a scent which was uniquely Vic, never failed to arouse her. Her hands roamed over his shoulders and back of their own accord. When they reached the elastic waistband of his briefs, her anger over his questions about Rayvon melted away. He moaned when she slipped her fingers under the band and ran her hands over the firmness of his butt then rolled onto his side and undid the buttons down the front of her nightshirt. Automatically, she rose up so he could get it over her shoulders and arms. As soon as he tossed it onto the floor, his mouth left a searing trail of kisses down her neck and finally to her breasts where he lingered. Damn him! He knew what she loved and what made her crazy. The sound of him sucking at her nipples sent an automatic signal to her legs to open wide. No matter how wildly she wriggled her hips, he angled his body away from her so his erection pressed against her thigh and not where she wanted it most. Finally, he tested her readiness with two of his long expert fingers then growled against her ear, “You’re so wet, you can’t tell me you don’t want this.”Cursing herself for her weakness, all she could do was purr and mimic the movement of his fingers with her hips. It felt so good, and it had been so long since they had been together. She closed her eyes and imagined her body floating on the wave of rhythm he’d created. When he raised his body above her and lifted one of her legs onto his shoulder, it was clear he wasn’t getting ready to be gentle. He plunged into her in one hard stroke, going so deep she uttered a loud gasp and hooked her other leg behind his. For a moment, the force of his strokes shocked her. With each one, he sank into her then withdrew almost all the way. Her hips lifted off the mattress to keep him from leaving her body. Rough lovemaking wasn’t typical for him, but it excited her so much, she dug her nails into his shoulders and surrendered to his passion. Every time she tried to kiss him, he pulled back, and when he sensed she was on the verge of climax, he withdrew and took his time changing their position. Finally, after he’d done this three or four times, he flipped her over, wedged a pillow under her hips and pinned her hands against the mattress so she couldn’t move from beneath him. In all the years they’d been together, Mona couldn’t ever remember him being so aggressive. He was so hard he didn’t even need to guide himself into her. Doing it this way put him at the perfect angle to hit her spot. Vic knew her body so well. A few short minutes later, his name filled the room as she screamed her release. In a few seconds, he uttered a roar unlike anything she’d ever heard from him. Thankfully, the boys’ rooms were at the opposite end of the floor. When it was all over, Vic didn’t pull her back against him so they could spoon the way they used to. He fumbled around on the floor with one arm for his briefs then sat up and pulled them on. He got up and glared down at her with such a cold look in his eyes it sent a chill down her back. “He’ll never be able to make you scream like that.” He walked out leaving her body still quivering and her mouth unable to form any comprehensible words.

Sample Sunday: That's How You Kiss Your Lady

From A Winter Rendezvous, coming December 23, 2015

***unedited***

It was the perfect evening with the perfect stranger. Laurel Hunter sang a plethora of holiday songs full of romance and it set the mood for lovers. All through the evening Chrystal found Jackson's hands subtly touching her. He'd placed his arm around the back of the booth and would absently run his finger up and down her arm. She felt her body swaying to the music, continuously brushing against his body. At one point, she glanced in his direction only to realize his attention was fully on her and not the performance at all."I don't think I've told you yet, but you're absolutely stunning this evening," he whispered into her ear. She'd smiled, and turned back to finish watching the show. When Laurel finished her set, everyone stood to applaud her. The crowd watched as Rowan hopped on stage and held a piece of mistletoe over her head, before pulling her into his arms for a deep kiss. Then he took her hand and they ran off stage.Chrystal and Jackson sat back down, and turned to face each other."That was amazing," Chrystal said. "I've always loved her music, even when she sang under the name Sapphire Woods. But I think I may like her even more now.""Yeah," Jackson replied. "She's a very talented singer.""Oh, aren't you two just the sweetest looking couple."Chrystal and Jackson turned to see an older couple staring at them. They glanced at each other before looking back at the couple."Thank you," Jackson said."Harold," the older woman said, pointing over their heads, "Look! They're sitting under mistletoe!"They looked up and sure enough, the little plant was dangling over their head. The older man, Harold, wrapped his arm around his wife, and grinned. "They sure are, Doris. Hey young man, go on and give your lady a kiss. It's tradition you know."Chrystal's eyes grew wide with surprise. Jackson wrapped his arm around Chrystal then smiled at Harold and Doris."My lady is a bit shy when it comes to that sort of thing in public.""Oh come on!" Harold encouraged. "There's hardly anyone in here anymore."The restaurant had cleared out fairly quickly after Laurel finished her show."Go on," Harold said. "Give her a little kiss."Jackson looked at Chrystal with a raised eyebrow, silently asking for permission and when she grinned at him and gave him a slightly nod, he moved his arm from her shoulders down to her waist and pulled her closer to him.His other hand cupped the back of her head, his fingers grazing the thin layer of hair at the nape of her neck. His touch caused her to let out a shudder of breath and when she did, Jackson slanted his mouth over hers.He pulled away and stared into her eyes for a moment, before leaning in to kiss her again. His lips fused with hers, and her hands slid up to wrap around his neck. When his tongue slid into her mouth, tangling with hers, a tiny moan fell out.The sound of Harold's boisterous laugh caused Chrystal and Jackson to break a part."So much for being shy. Now that's how you kiss your lady. You two have a great evening," Harold said, wiggling his eyes suggestively. They barely noticed the other couple leave as they continued to stare at each other.Jackson's eyes drifted down to Chrystal's lips, then they traveled further down. Even through her sweater, she knew he could see how hard her nipples were with arousal. She watched as he licked his lips, then ran his hand across his bearded jaw."Perhaps," he said, in a low voice. "We should finish this somewhere more private."She didn't even hesitate when she asked, "Your suite or mine?"
Jackson turned, found their waiter and held up his hand. "Check, please."
