Was Boehner's House actually *too active* on something? New lawyer to make the case
SCOTUSBlog's Lyle Denniston brings us an interesting development:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday chose a Harvard professor of constitutional law, Vicki C. Jackson, to argue that the Court does not have the authority to rule on the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. She will file a brief and appear to argue the two procedural issues that the Court itself had raised in agreeing last Friday to consider DOMA’s validity.
Jackson, who joined the Harvard faculty last year after se...
NOM can't even do its year-end graphics right
Look at this graphic that NOM is using for its year-end fundraiser:
Don't even concern yourself with the stated among given. When it comes to financial reporting, NOM is like the less credible little brother of the boy who cried "wolf." I'm convinced they just input the figures at will, with the money coming in dependent on those secret donors and not any sort of grassroots. Their financial certainly shows that to be true.
What I really find ridiculous is the graphic itself. I mean, why the sc...
Brian Brown's ActRight vows to stop President Hillary Clinton
Well this didn't take long. Far-right conservative Republican National Organization For Marriage president Brian Brown has already turned his far-right conservative Republican side organization into an anti-Clinton-in-2016 attack group:
Hey, did you hear she was actually born on Saturn?

Video: Is this how's NOM's Next Generation will sound?
All year, NOM has been teasing a "Next Generation For Marriage" project which Cultural Director Thomas Peters is planning to launch and MarriageForNextGen.org. But as we know, the vast majority of young people support marriage equality, most of them in a benign way that wonders why this whole thing is even at issue. To say NOM will have an uphill slog with this project is like saying Rudolph had a tough time transcending all of the other reindeer's first impressions.
So what will NOM have to r...
'Clarence Thomas' writes for 'The Onion'
Go. Read. Ha:
I Get To Determine Whether Gay People Can Marry
BY CLARENCE THOMAS
Last week, the Supreme Court decided to take up a pair of cases related to gay marriage, cases that will for the first
time determine the constitutionality of laws denying marriage rights to same-sex couples. As a member of the nation’s highest court for the past 21 years, I can remember few rulings of such consequence as these two, which will affect the lives of so many people. So as the time approaches, I ask all...
Maggie reboots
It seems Maggie is going to spend 2013 with an increased role at the American Principles Project (another project of NOM co-founder Robby George). She has just rebranded 2012's traction-less "Culture War Victory Fund" effort as "Maggie Gallagher for the American Principles Project," which is now housed at MaggieGallagher.com:
I eagerly await the midyear post that simply reads: "Damn."

NOM moves forward with 'Gays Against Gay Marriage' meme
Remember those GaysAgainstGayMarriage domain names that I revealed for HRC's NOMExposed project? Yeah, well—check out the subject line that NOM's own Jennifer Roback Morse is using for her latest email blast:
(h/t: Lurleen)
The subsequent text is exactly what you'd think. This National Organization For Marriage outlet (Roback Morse's Ruth Institute is a project of NOM's Education Fund) is trying to convince America that there are all kinds of conservative gays out there who oppose marriage equa...

Video: HRC heads past and present talk history and its right side
Elizabeth Birch was the executive director of the Human Rights Campaign when the egregiously mislabeled Defense of Marriage Act made its way through Congress.
Chad Griffin is currently occupying HRC's top office and himself has a long history with Proposition 8.
Chris Matthews is a student of American history and knows that equality always wins out eventually.

I fully agree with NOM's Peters—it's a good day for marriage!!
The National Organization For Marriage's Cultural Director, Thomas Peters, is very excited for this "very good day for marriage":
[Twitter]
Couldn't agree more! My husband and I will soon enjoy full federal rights and benefits, millions more couples will soon enjoy the right that Andrew and I enjoy, and our nation will move closer toward its promise! It's a good day that is setting the stage for a great year!!!
