Ryan Anderson: Anti-gay Kansas bill stops Jim Crow–style coercion
I'm not going to take on his new piece, because he essentially repeats his same arguments from yesterday—the same ones that everyone in his movement is making, in one voice, as hopeful strategy to derail marriage equality—and I've already responded to them in length. However, I do want to note this new claim that the Heritage Foundation's Ryan Anderson, a young man who has admitted that he believes gay people should remain "chaste," who is seriously claiming that the wacky Kansas bill that se...
IN: Desperate pro-discrimination group NOM seeks activist judge willing to thwart people-elected legislature
As you likely know, the Indiana legislature all but killed the chances of ever passing a discriminatory marriage amendment in that state when it altered the language in a way that will necessitate at least a two year waiting period before such a bill could ever find its way to the ballot. It was one of the weirdest wins in our community's recent memory, since the GOP-led legislature did, in fact, pass a marriage ban. But it was a win nonetheless, since the changed language delayed the whole p...
Catholic 'ex-gay' advocate to high school students: Same-sex adoption is as 'similarly mean' as abortion
In a speech to Kapaun Mount Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita, Kansas, a speaker from the Catholic "ex-gay"-ish organization Courage, Dan Mattson (himself a gay man who chooses not to be gay), told the young folks that same-sex couples' adopting is "a huge act of selfishness" and downright mean. In fact, he said it was "similarly mean" to abortion:
Dan Mattson of Courage: "The short answer is that I would say no. I don't think they should be allowed to adopt kids...I'll tell you what. I h...
Mark Regnerus: Same-sex marriage will grant straight men 'permission to stray,' anal sex
In an hour long speech to the very Catholic Franciscan University of Steubenville, Mark Regnerus, the researcher who is now most known for the political opportunism and mountains of flaws in his "study" on same-sex parenting, continued to prove the advocacy that steers his work. You can listen to the full speech here, but this clip felt worthy of singling out:

What cultural power we have! Not only is Mark determined to make the married gays among us seem like we neither value nor see...

How long before Sen. Cruz demands to see President Obama's marriage certificate?
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Obviously) has been on a bit of a gay-hostile press junket the past few days, appearing on all of the usual attack shows (Tony Perkins' Washington Update, Janet Mefferd, Wallbuilders Live, etc.) trying to sell his silly little bill that hopes to sneak the Defense of Marriage Act back into law. In every appearance, he's said some variant of this:
[Politico]
This president has made a huge deal about how "living above the store" is the best perk of his job since it allows him to b...
Let us flout nondiscrimination laws, or else!
More than a few locales have passed nondiscrimination laws that include LGBT people. In areas where such laws are in effect, business owners must respect that protection, just as they respect protections that apply to race, gender, national origin, religion, etc.
These laws are not suggestions. The reason why LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination laws exist is because the people who passed them want to—wait for it, wait for it—PROTECT LGBT PEOPLE FROM DISCRIMINATION! It doesn't matter the personall...
NOM endorses man who doesn't want gays seen as 'fine and dandy'
Back when he was fighting alongside NOM to pass a constitutional amendment in North Carolina, pastor Mark Harris admitted that he didn't want gay people to be seen as "fine and dandy." Here's that:

Now this same Mark Harris is running for U.S. Senate, and the org. that denies the obvious animus that drives its movement is jumping at the chance to endorse him:
Fine, NOM. And dandy. The more you pal up with folks who are decidedly, clearly, and proud...
Claim: People who fight LGBT rights for sport are costing GOP national elections
In an uncharacteristic moment of "journalistic" candor, the American Family Association's One News Now site chose to run the following claim, even though it is a direct repudiation of what the AFA does every single day:
Dr. Charles W. Dunn, professor emeritus of government at Clemson University, says there is a major problem with a survey of only conservative activists.
"Conservative activists don't elect presidents," Dunn claims, "and if conservative activists select their candidate for presid...
In everyday supporter with no political role or weight, FRC finds new hero
The love him again!
[FULL: FRC]
If only they could run this Mitt guy in a national election against a historic figure who took the principled step to come out in favor of marriage equality. That would show us!
Oh wait.
*Reminder: Romney reached out to FRC back then. Here's a video I made at the time:
