While the site was down, we won another state #Oregon

As you know if you tried to access G-A-Y today, the site was down due to another DDOS attack on the host. But it's 2014 America, which means that there's a good change that something major happened on the equality front in just one afternoon of absence. And sure enough:

6:13-cv-01834 #119 - ORDER by Equality Case Files

Congrats, Beaver State! I already used my best lines on Twitter during the site outage, so I'll just repeat them here:

One of the least self-aware snips of commentary you'll read today (this week? this year?)

Read this collection of thoughts from conservative columnist Gina Loudon (who fills in for Bryan Fischer on his viciously anti-gay radio show) and then I'll get back to you:

What if the Obama daughters’ careers were picketed and boycotted because their dad is a radical statist traitor who was wholly unaccountable and lied while people died in Benghazi? Would that be OK with those condoning the radical bigotry of HGTV right now?

We all know what would happen. There would be outrage! There would...

Does the 'same position as Pres. Obama' canard make social conservatives feel better? B/c it's completely wrong

Every time one of these situations in which an anti-LGBT person is vaulted into the spotlight for stating anti-LGBT views that he or she (or they) try to dance around rather than own, social conservatives jump in with the ridiculous lie that the person or persons in question "has the same position President Obama had just a few years ago." In an exchange with anti-LGBT Fox News reporter Shannon Bream, Concerned Women For America's communications person, Alison Howard (who you might remember a...

Read: Arkansas Family Council's (go-nowhere) advice for countering pro-equality ruling

Begin by asking God to become a warrior for conservative politics, then acquaint yourself and disseminate the very spin that keeps losing in courts of law. This is the basic advice of the Arkansas Family Council, the state org. dedicated to keeping discrimination in state law, as they consider how to counter Judge Chris Piazza's recent decision smacking down bad policy:

Peter LaBarbera's org., long a liability to its movement, claims 'earlier trauma and/or emotional deprivation' creates homosexuality

You have to say one thing for Pete LaBarbera and his crew: they really don't care how much their honest airing of their true views hurts their broader movement. Because it does, and yet they still do.

Latest bit of unfiltered nastiness comes via Pete and one of his board members:

201405181937Same-sex “marriage” is an absurdity (Pope Francis calls it anthropological regression), which even “gays” joked about in the ’70′s. Proposition 8 was the people’s initiative opposing institutionalizing a man’s using an...

Drawn that way: 'Dragon' character to animate his way out of cartoon closet

Screen Shot 2014-05-18 At 7.48.57 PmThanks to Frozen's earworm of a hit song, the phrase we most associate with modern animated film is "let it go." This will likely to continue into the next year, once the social conservatives catch wind of this development:

Looks like there'll be a coming out moment in How To Train Your Dragon 2. According to the film's director, Gobber the Belch, voiced by Craig Ferguson, will reveal that he's gay in the upcoming sequel.

There's a gay character in 'How to Train Your Dragon' [Towleroad]

The "com...

Jim DeMint: Marriage equality makes people 'angry, resentful of their country and of the people who are pushing it'

Screen Shot 2014-05-16 At 6.30.02 PmTo an anti-gay conservatives like Jim DeMint, my rights as a husband, father, and tax payer are something he and likeminded Americans should be free to deny me simple because he thinks they are "definitely wrong." And because me and my allies in government are uppity enough to see ourselves as equal, people like him are going to start "resenting" us.

Here's your closing thought for the week from the up-is-down world of American conservatism:

"No one’s fallen out of love with the ideal America,...

They think this is our first time at the rodeo

Whenever someone's anti-LGBT-iness raises his or her national platform, we know it won't be long before they start using the expected talking points. "Traditional values." "Why can't I have my opinion?" "Free speech." "Who's really the intolerant one here?" "Agenda." "I'm not against anyone but..."

What I find funny is how many of these folks seem to think they are original when they attempt to use these lines. It's as if they think they've stumbled on some previously undiscovered escape claus...

NOM's latest 'March for Marriage' speakers: Man who's spent 2014 fighting trans kids, guy who tells married couples they're not really married

I've already given you the lay of the land regarding the previously announced (and quite hostile) speakers. Here now, the latest two to be added to the National Organization For Marriage's speaking roster for its upcoming "March for Marriage" (June 19 in DC)

Screen Shot 2014-05-16 At 2.02.22 Pm

Frank Schubert is of course the man who spearheaded all four of the losing marriage discrimination campaigns of 2012, as well as the mastermind for the now-rendered-unconstitutional fiasco that was Proposition 8. He's also the guy behind t...
