Synopsis: Folks in town call him a monster—say he’s dangerous. But I know him simply as Elijah Hays, the quiet, gentle giant who works with the horses on my ranch. I can feel him watching me, that steady intense gaze making me crave things I don’t quite understand, burn in a way that frightens me. He’s always kept his distance…until that night.I remember him coming to my rescue, me following him into the barn, giving him his first taste of a woman, and his inexperienced yet barely reined touch turning me to ash.

Now all I can think about is exposing the dark desire I see deep inside him—having him turn those dark desires on me. That low, gritty voice rasping orders in my ear. Those huge, rough hands holding me down when a storm blows in.

I want his surrender. His control. I want to break him…and have him break me…

Virtues
Megan Mitcham
(Base Branch, #8)
Publication date: September 6th 2016
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
Once they’re gone, can you ever get them back?
As a CIA spy turned traitor to her country, Cara Lee kissed her virtues goodbye long ago. After seventeen years, her retribution ended with the burial of her enemy and a fresh start with her daughter. If only she could forgive herself enough to rebuild their relationship.
Luck—her daughter’s fiancé—wasn’t Cara’s only attempt at atonement. She took Marina Sorensen off a Swedish street corner and schooled her in the art of survival. Too bad the girl sold her and Luck out to the thugs of Brödraskapet.
Her disciplined nature prods Cara to tie the loose end—one way or the other. But the commander of the UN’s special forces has other plans. The last thing she wants is another government job. Given an ultimatum—and a babysitter—she plays along.
Tyler Grace should have been a farmer in east Texas, but the universe had other plans. A tactical expert for the Base Branch, when he finds a problem, he seeks the best way to fix it. Cara presents an obstacle he’s ill prepared to conquer—but he’ll die trying.
Struggling to sort through her past, Cara clings to the one virtue she has left, while Tyler dares to prove she never lost them.

22710047 EXCERPT:Cara’s POV:
“You’re damn determined to get frisked.” The stranger called Bulldogger by the soldiers standing next to him held his hands loose but ready at his sides.
“And you’re determined to lose a part of your manhood.” Cara glared.
Bulldogger stepped into the line of the lasers dotting her stomach. His angry green gaze left her and found his cohorts. He raised his index finger and whirled it. She looked back long enough to see the two men frown and then give her their backs. “You too,” he barked. Luck and Rin balked. “Now.”
When they turned, Cara faced the cowboy. “What about you?”
“So you can sever my spine? I don’t think so.” His nod was slow, his eyes steady.
He’d demanded more privacy for her than she had reason to expect, and they’d wasted enough time. Cara unbuttoned the snap of her slim fitting tact pants, freed the zipper, and pushed them over her hips. Gravity made quick work, plunging them to her ankles and giving her access to all her weapons. Too bad they didn’t work anymore. The black lace of her bra hadn’t enticed him. She doubted the matching boy shorts could. At forty-five, she’d officially lost her touch.
Ever the gentleman, the stranger didn’t leer, but then again, his gaze didn’t leave her body either. Probably scared of losing a ball. And rightly so.
She unbuckled the double straps from her taut thigh and tossed the sheath and two small knives to the floor. Cara hitched her shirt, unwound that strap from her middle, and tossed it and the single blade down with the others.
“Satisfied?”
“Turn.”
Cara glared a hole through his forehead. He whirled that index finger again, while his neutral visage maintained a clinical interest. Still, it felt too intimate to be standing before only him in an open room full of people and guns. She slapped her long blond ponytail over her shoulder and swiveled on her heels, determined not to make anything of her unusual vulnerability. When her gaze lost his, and the mostly bare ass cheeks leveled on him, the humid air inside the old warehouse condensed on her back once more, threatening to give her away. Her feet shifted to complete the 360 with her pants around her ankles. The sooner, the better.
“Stop,” he ordered.
Damn.
“I charge by the minute,” she growled.
“Huh.” The rumble of his harrumph rattled its way across the shell of her ear from mere inches away. Her ruffled ponytail shot over her shoulder and smacked her collarbone. Heat centered her spine as the back of his hand clamped the dagger strapped to the clasp of her bra, running up the center of her back.
“I charge by the inch.” The rumble of his growl reverberated against her cheek. He dragged the hot metal from its sheath, pulling the damp material away from her skin. Gooseflesh spread across her shoulder blades. The sharp point skimmed along her spine.
A shiver zipped every which way, except the way it should’ve…which was no-damn-where.

BEFORE ANYONE ELSE
The Hashtag Series #8
Happily-ever-after.
That’s what happens when you get married.
Right?
Turns out sparkly rings, cake and a fantastic wedding do not automatically grant you that, not even when it’s all you truly want.
I’m even starting to doubt the bottomless, unconditional love I share with the man I married will be enough.
I can’t have happily ever after, know why?
Because I can’t give Romeo what he truly wants. I’ve tried. So hard. I won’t be happy unless he is and something is missing. Someone.
Paparazzi are in my face. The flashing cameras and prying eyes are everywhere. My secret is getting harder to hide, and I know the second the scoop is dished the grip I have on the fraying rope of that happily ever after will snap right in my face.
In our face.
I can’t let that happen. No matter what.
Because with or without a happy ending, Romeo comes Before Anyone Else.

Rebekah L. Purdy
Published by: Swoon Romance
Publication date: September 14th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult
Payton Carter is one of six kids (all of which are named after famous football players), not to mention the only girl in the Carter household. With this much testosterone and no mother, it’s no wonder she’s absolutely clueless when it comes to makeup, dances, and talking to guys she’s crushing on. And now she’s about ready to start her freshman year of high school, which is nerve wrenching enough, but when she ends up running into her crush, Chance Montgomery, at her dad’s sports restaurant, she finds out that the quarterback for their rival team is moving to Aller Falls. This is nothing short of fate.
Payton realizes she has to find a way to impress Chance and get him to ask her out or at least know she’s interested in him—preferably without dropping a plateful of fries on his head, like she did last time. After taking her two oldest brothers’ advice, she decides to go out for the freshman football team, figuring that between practices and games she and her crush will surely be able to talk. And maybe talking will lead to something more permanent or at least to a first kiss. Only this plan backfires in ways she never imagined, when she beats Chance Montgomery out of the starting quarterback position. Now not only does she make him the laughing stock of the team, but also has to figure out how to avoid the snotty cheerleaders, a traitor best friend, not to mention winning games for her team. Too bad this is just the beginning of her freshman year.

Stacey Lorenzo has finished treatment, but is still devastated by her past as she enters college. With drugs and alcohol so readily available, so much freedom, and barely any supervision, Stacey falls back into old habits. Soon it’s a daily dose of partying, self-medicating, and having sex with lots of different guys. As her relationship with Eli destructs, she falls for Jesse, who just so happens to be a drug dealer. Goodreads / AmazonEXCERPT:“Your nose is bleeding.”I brought my hand to my nose and nodded.
Ugh. I snorted coke last night.
My whole body contorted and I ran to Derek’s bathroom as quickly as I could. I made it just in time. Blood and acid trickled from my nostrils, vomit spewed violently from my mouth, and tears poured from my ducts.
Eli caught up with me, closed the door, and pulled my hair back into a neat bun. His soft hands rubbed my back gently until finally, after what seemed like years, my body stopped betraying me and calmed. The stress Eli felt was written all over his face; he couldn’t imagine the idea of me being hurt, sick, under his watch. He handed me some tissues for my nose and held me to his chest on the tile floor. He didn’t say a word but I knew that he was worried; he felt betrayed by my choices. I hated that I had let him down again. I cried so hard I threw up again.

TeriLyn's thoughts: **Last Kiss of Summer generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Last Kiss of Summer
turned out to be just okay for me. It started off slow and the romance never really picked up. The story seemed flat and their were a lot of games being played behind the scenes that became overwhelming for my reading tastes. Disjointed transitions and some choppy writing in spots were things I fumbled over. Although overall I think the third person writing gave good perspective to the story. However, feeling connected to the love story between the hero and heroine is obviously major and there wasn't a point for me that I thought "oh they belong together forever", something felt disingenuous about their coupling. More engaging were their individual stories coupled with the infused humor, friendships, and good will of several secondary characters.

The connection between Luke and Kennedy just never accelerated and then the end and resolution came so abruptly I couldn't justify it for myself. The premise of the story held interest and I enjoyed the small town vibe we get from secondary characters, the settings, and the values of everyone involved. Fi and Paula were bright spots as well. And there a some genuine moments between Luke and Kennedy where I felt respect and friendship between the two but I just never felt the spark to get me completely invested in their relationship. Many friendships developed very thoroughly throughout this book though and I found those to be very sincere and great reading spots. Destiny Bay has lots happening and there is lots of potential for Luke's partner, Hawk, to have a very interesting story.

Book Review: Crave

Crave (Splendor #2)by Janet Nissenson (Goodreads Author) 4.22  ·   Rating Details  ·  9 Ratings  ·  7 ReviewsThe next chapter in one of the most romantic love stories ever told

Luxury hotel heir Ian Gregson longed for his beloved Tessa from afar for more than two years, forced to keep his attraction towards her well hidden. But now that his feelings no longer have to remain a secret, he is free to indulge his constant craving for the woman of his dreams.
Shy, innocent Tessa Lockwood is dazzled by her handsome, sophisticated lover, and falls deeper and deeper under his spell with each passing day. But their newfound relationship will be tested by Tessa’s lifelong insecurities, and her fears of succumbing to the throes of depression that have always tormented her.
It will fall to Ian to convince her that their love is strong enough to overcome any obstacles that life might place in their way. And that now that he’s finally been able to make her his own, nothing and no one will ever keep them apart again.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Crave generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

The second book in the Splendor series picks up where book one, Covet, leaves us. Told from the third person point of view, Ian and Tessa's passionate story continues. A lot of history and backstory is told in book one that I think is a very good start to the series. However, it's also my opinion that book two could be read as a stand alone.

The characters truly make this book for me. Ian and Tessa's relationship, between their intelligent conversation, passionate scenes, and the give/take nature of their coupling, is very sweet and makes you feel from beginning to end. My enjoyment came from watching Ian foster Tessa's growth and confidence. His feelings for her are what romance books are made of and her basking in those feelings provides visceral reactions from readers. While the prose of Crave is excellent and Nissenson's writing captures those feelings so well the book gets laborious through the middle. A lot of detail and stagnancy made some sections of text boring. There were parts where Ian and Tessa sexual relationship took up too much space without the plot moving forward at an even pace.

Crave gave me two characters and writing that entertained me. I felt invested in Ian and Tessa even when I wanted the plot to move forward. I had to see where their relationship was taking them and I thought about both of them when I wasn't reading. Nissenson's third person writing style is fluid and easy to follow. I look forward to the conclusion of their story coming later this fall.

“Beck?” I managed to get his name out just before he opened the front door.

“Yeah?” He spun back to face me, his dark eyes unreadable.

I turned my face to the side so I could see him fully. “You don't have to go,” I said softly. “You can stay. Only if you want to though.”

He rubbed his hand down his face, his eyes never leaving mine, then walked back into the kitchen toward me. I stood up away from the fridge as he stopped right next to me.

Slowly, he touched his hand to my face, his fingertips teasing my hairline. His dark gaze searched mine, and my heart jumped into my throat as the usual tingles his touch sparked danced down my neck. Then, he slid his hand into my hair, allowing the blonde strands to fall away from his fingertips.

“Do I want to go home to my big-ass house with its cold emptiness?” he asked in a low voice. “Or go to the club where half the girls there still see me as a mountain to be conquered? Not particularly, Blondie. I'd rather stay here. Even if there will be a demand for movies and water and foot rubs from a tiny, sick person.”

“You can.” My voice was quiet, like his. Even if my internal screams from self-preservation and vulnerability were deafeningly loud as they told me I was a fool, that he had
to go, that this would never be enough for him.

“Do you want me to?” His question was... honest.

Raw.

Hesitant.

Like he didn't want me to answer.

“Do I want you to stay here in my tiny house so my daughter can fall more in love with you than she already is? Not really. But...” Don't be a fool, Cassie. Don't admit you want him to stay. He's just going to hurt you. “I don't exactly want you to go either.”

“For her, or for you?”

“I don't want to answer that question.”

“If I kissed you right now, would you ram your knee into my cock?”

“I'd briefly consider it, but I probably wouldn't do it.”

His lips twitched to the side. “You just answered the question.”

Then, of course, he cupped the back of my head, and he kissed me. It was slow, sweet, gentle. And I didn't consider kneeing him in the balls for a single second.

Beck pulled back and trailed his hand down my arm before he finally let me go. “I'm going home to get changed and then come back. Do you need anything while I'm gone? For CiCi? You?”

“I don't...” I sighed and chewed back my pride. “I meant to go to the store today after work to get some stuff like bread, milk... important stuff. But now I can't.”

“I can get it. Just tell me what you need.”

I bit the inside of my lip, then nodded. “Okay. Let me write it down.” I walked through into the front room with him hot on my heels and grabbed the notebook and pen from under the coffee table. A few things were already scrawled down, so I added a couple more things, including more medicine. I tore the sheet off the notebook, stood, then gave it to Beck. “Let me get my wallet.”

He grabbed my wrist, stopping me. “I'm not taking your money.”

I lifted my gaze to his. “You can't pay for my groceries.”

“I can and I will.”

“You can't and you won't.”

“I can and I will.”

“You can't and you won't.”

“I can do this all day, baby. I'm stubborn as fuck.” His eyes told me he wasn't lying. “And we all know I'm a brat about the word no. So, I can, I will, and I'm going to. If I can't help you by buying a measly eight items, I'm an asshole who shouldn't be allowed around other people.”

“You can't buy my groceries,” I repeated. It was a lame argument. I was going to lose, but I'd fight until I went down.

Beck's eyes twinkled as he leaned in. “Don't worry. If you really want to pay me back, I'll take a blow job. I imagine your lips around my cock will be a pretty good thank you.”

My jaw dropped as he backed off with a wink.

“Mouth open already, Cassie? Enthusiasm. I like that.”

I snapped my jaw shut and glared at him. “You're a dirty pig.”

“I know. But I've got fifty bucks that says you'll be sucking my dick by bedtime. If you don't agree...” He shrugged one shoulder, his lips curved in that dangerous smirk.

“If you're lucky, I'll bite it.”

“I'll take that as I'm in for a good time.”

One more wink, complete with expanding grin, and he was gone.
