Sugary Sweet Dizziness

icecream

Social life in my town is almost enjoying great feasts and late nights with a lot of celebrations. A lot of festivals and events are celebrated and enjoying food – this means, the last dish is always “Desserts” which later desert in the morning with a dizzy feels of the Sugary sweet stuff. And, I am one person who loves to eat the Desserts. I have noticed that last three times, whenever I had Vanilla with Hot chocolate, the second thing was un-easiness. Any sugary dish in excess and it’s been a shaky health. I wonder the reason and had a research on this.

I understand, Sugar cravings usually arise out of an imbalance in our body. This imbalance could be a result of eating very little food during the day. In such a case it is natural to crave for sugar as it can quickly satisfy the body’s need for calories as well as compensate for the low which such a person usually experiences. Another reason for sugar craving could be consuming very little protein.

When sugar cravings begin to rule life, we develop hypoglycemia, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, immune deficiency, bone loss, yeast infections, herpes, pre-menstrual syndrome, loss of memory and concentration, irritability, anger, mood swings, depression and more.

Sugar happens to creates mineral imbalances within the body. It borrows more B-vitamins from the body in order to get metabolized and gives nothing in return as it contains no nutrients. Therefore it is called an anti-nutrient. If we have a sweet tooth, we have to consume additional B-complex as its stores get depleted. The mineral chromium also gets severely depleted by consuming white sugar. And after the age of say, 40 +, it’s ever to take the B complex and vitamin E.

Excess of any flavour, whether sweet, salty, bitter, sour, tends to create imbalances within the body. While natural sugars like honey, dates, jaggery are rich in minerals, when used in excess, they manage to upset the body’s protein/carbohydrate balance and bring about imbalances in blood sugar. Therefore even natural sources of sugar should be eaten in small quantities.

Foods rich in protein such as soyabeans, paneer, dal, tofu, almonds help to keep the blood sugar in balance and reduce sugar cravings.

It’s watch and eat as far as Desserts are served. Especially, the Sugary sweet Crazy bites! I guess, it’s more to stop a Temptation – taste it and leave it. Or else, there you go for a run with ‘Diabetes’

Btw, A 12-week London study was recently conducted involving 58 type 2 diabetics with hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels over 7 percent. Hemoglobin A1c is a marker for long-term glycemic control in diabetics.

After 12 weeks on 2g of cinnamon per day, study subjects had significantly lower HbA1c levels, as well as significantly reduced blood pressures (systolic, SBP and diastolic, DBP).

The researchers’ conclusion:

“Intake of 2g of cinnamon for 12 weeks significantly reduces the HbA1c, SBP and DBP among poorly controlled type 2 diabetes patients. Cinnamon supplementation could be considered as an additional dietary supplement option to regulate blood glucose and blood pressure levels along with conventional medications to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.”

Also, Researchers studied magnesium intake and diabetes risk in about 4,500 men and women aged 18 to 30. None of the participants were diabetic at the start of the study.

Over the ensuing 20 years, 330 of the test subjects developed diabetes. The people with the highest magnesium intake – about 200 milligrams for every 1,000 calories consumed – were almost 50 percent less likely to develop diabetes than men and women who consumed about 100 milligrams per 1,000 calories.

The study also revealed that as magnesium intake increased, inflammation levels decreased, as did insulin resistance.

So, half a tea spoon of Cinnamon can optimize Cholesterol level.

In some other cases, my research says, more serious disruption of the blood supply to the brain, such as a transient ischemic attack or stroke, may cause dizziness.

Anxiety and panic attacks, especially when accompanied by hyperventilation, can lead to dizzy spells. These may be accompanied by tingling fingers and headaches.

Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) is another possible cause, and is easily remedied by eating some sugary food.

Other rarer causes of dizziness include:

Drug treatments

Migraine

Abnormal heart rhythms

Stress

Tiredness

Anemia

Acute intoxication

Carbon monoxide poisoning

Finally, dizziness is a warning alarm. If dizziness strikes and pass away often, do not shrug off. Go and see a Doctor.

Kinds of Poetry: Through the years, poets have developed many kinds of poetry. However, there are three main kinds that I refer here : Lyric, Narrative and Dramatic.

Lyric Poetry: The most common type – the word lyric comes from lyre, a harplike instrument played by ancient Greek Poets during recitals or shorter poems. Today, lyric means any short poem. The haiku, Japanese form, is one of the shortest types of lyric poetry. 17 syllables arranged in 3 lines. The first has 5 syllables, second 7 and third 5. Here is a Haiku of Japanese Poet Issa translated by Australian poet Harold Stewart, two lines of 10 syllables each:

In these degenerate later days, I stare

Astounded cherry blossoms everywhere!

The Ode is a serious, elaborate lyric full of high praise and noble feeling. Many odes mark important public event. Classic ode, also called the Pindaric ode or choral ode, was developed and Ancient Greeks. It consist of three parts. First two parts, the strophe and antistrophe, have same pattern of rhyme. The third part, the epod, has a different pattern. Most odes later developed which consist of stanzas with the same pattern of rhythm and rhyme.

The elegy, a common lyric, is a meditation on life and death. Mourning of friend or famous person. The Sonnet is 14 line lyric with certain pattern of rhyme and rhythm. Many sonnets are love poems . Other lyric forms include the limerick, rondel, triolet and villanelle.

Narrative Poetry : Tells stories. Two main forms are Epics and Ballads.

Epics: These are long poems with most epics describing the deeds of heroes in battle or conflicts between human beings and natural or divine forces. Many epics also tells us of the origin or history of people. The oldest surviving form of poetry, Epics were composed during the 700s B.C.Iliad and the Odyssey were the two most famous epics in Western Literature and scholars have a point of their say as these two works are traditionally attributed to the Greek poet Homer. The Iliad describes events in the last year of the Trojan War, which was fought between Greece and the City of Troy. The Odyssey tells of the adventures of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his return home after having fought for Greece in the Trojan War.

Ballads: They tell shorter stories about a particular person. Many Ballads in English Literature describe Robin Hood adventures, a legendary outlaw who stole from the rich people and gave to the poor. Some ballads date back to 1300s.

Dramatic Poetry : Tells stories like narrative poems. But in dramatic poetry, the poet  lets one or more of the story’s characters act out the story. Many plays are written as dramatic poetry. If the dialogue of a play rhymes, has repeating rhythms, or features about distinct poetic elements, the play is considered to be dramatic poetry. William Shakespeare, the English playwright is famous for being a dramatic poet. Robert Browning wrote many poems in dramatic monologue, in which the story is told in the words of only one character.

( For more on Elements of poetry, please come back soon as I have yet to work on this)

LIMERICK : A form of humorous verse. It takes it’s name from the city of Limerick, Ireland. No one knows how or where the form originated. It became known after Edward Lear made the form popular with his first “A Book of Nonsense (1846). The Limerick is a poem of five lines, with strong beat and rough anapaestic rhythm (i.e. de-de-DUMM). It is written in Poulter’s measure, a Folk Metre that consists of 13 beats. The first two lines rhyme with the fifth, the third line rhymes with the fourth.

What kind of music is red? If red was a famous person, who would red be? If you touch red, what does it feel like? What kind of animal would eat red? Who or what loves red the most? What’s the first thing red does when it gets up in the morning? What part of the school is red?

My Success Story and Fond Memories

We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face Challenges. And, these very Challenges makes one fearless in the pursuit of what sets the soul on fire.

For me, Memories are special moments and they share our story. My Journey has ever been a Roller Coaster ride. There has been Ups and Downs, Twists and Turns but nevertheless, a wonderful tale to narrate. And, as I believe, Behind every successful woman, woman is herself. Passion Projects always bring positive results. With the passion comes Work, Focus, Push, Ideas, Trial and error methods, Serve selflessly and persistence.

Thomas Edison once said, “I haven’t failed, I have found 10,000 ways that don’t work” and this itself is an experience that failing often makes you rise. When you realize you are destined for greatness, your potential haunts and this is where I drew my line – to keep believing in myself and the things I can do. Living Life Principles is more easier when you accept life unconditionally. The Gita Principle has given me the strength to keep on doing work without waiting for fruits ” Karma kare jao phal ki iccha mat karo”

Karmany eva ‘ dhikaras te,

ma phalesu kadacana,

ma karmaphalahetur bhut,

ma te sango ‘stv akarmani

Yogasthah kuru karmani,

Sangam tyaktva dhanamjaya,

siddhyasiddhyoh samo bhutva,

samatvam yoga ucyate

“Which means… Thy rights is to thy work alone, But never to the Fruits of work;

Let not the rewards of action be thy motive, nor yet be attached to inaction.

As a Journalist, maybe we help others, or uncover corruption and the abuse of power. We conduct thorough research for our stories and explain how things work, or create positive change in our communities through our stories and online newspaper columns. Being a Web Content Analyst and Content writer for Political purpose is altogather a responsibility to highlight on Initiatives of the Government and selflessly add on to build the strength and power to work for society.

My experience has been indepth and I would keep adding on. I have the chance to do the kinds of things I’ve had a chance to do. I think when I looked around the world, I’m very opportunistic about it. I’ve been a Journalist, a Political writer, an Author, running a Kids Newspaper as an Editor or Blogger/VA (Virtual Assistant) to politician and even a Tech Expert as a Women Techmaker by Google or IT Head for GCCI BWW. And, first and foremost a Home Manager. And I had seen what happens when you have a giant force that emerges and just totally changes the rules of the game. Women has Power and I have much more Power Within to do the things I can do. And I loved doing everything that came my way. Still, head on to more bigger avenues with no surprize. There is no Pause button like a Computer coz when you press the pause button on a computer, it stops. But when you press the pause button on a human being it starts. It starts to reflect, rethink, reimagine and life moves on.

Children are Observers. Be an Influencer

hridaan_observer1

You are your child’s Hero – Mom or Dad – Kids are great followers and learn more with experience. God has fitted the world’s best and largest video tape recorder in your children’s mind. The way you treat – your parents, friends, wife or hubby, employees, customers..all is getting fully taped to be played back later. So, Empty your mind – throw your anxiety, worries, problems, guilt in your Mental Waste Basket – if you don’t eliminate, they go for maths – addition and subtraction of joys of life. It is important to empty mind than empty pockets later on !!!

There is no Influence as powerful as that of a mother. In my mind, there are no bad kids or what you label brats. They have their Emotions and impulses. They try to communicate their feelings and needs the only way they know how.

Children don’t need more things. The best toy a child needs is a parent to play with. Kids are more smarter and perspective than you realize. The Attitude you have as a parent, is what your kids will learn, more than what you tell them. They don’t remember what you teach them. They remember what you are.

“Kids are rude because they’re modeling rude behavior that they see around them. “Minding manners” is a foreign concept to many children. Etiquette and respect have gone out with bell-bottoms, but unlike those groovy jeans, it never made a comeback. Kids’ manners are arguably worse than ever.

According to Alex J. Packer, Ph.D., author of the book How Rude! The Teen Guide to Good Manners, Proper Behavior, and Not Grossing People Out , good manners must be taught, discussed, and practiced. Yet manners are no longer stressed in many homes and schools. “A lot of parents would rather be their child’s friend than their parent,” he says. “So kids get mixed messages and etiquette instruction falls by the wayside.”

In a survey Mr. Packer conducted with parents for his book, he asked: “Do you think children today are more polite, less polite, or the same as when you were growing up?” Of the 70 parents that responded, three-quarters answered that today’s children and adults are less polite than when they, themselves, were growing up.

Is Our Lack Of Manners Partly A Result Of New Technology? Poor digital manners are a cross-generational issue. There are countless adults displaying rude behavior while being engulfed in devices. There are classic examples of parents ignoring their children during meals while being on their devices, which sends a negative signal and sets a poor standard for expected tech etiquette.

Do as I say and not as I do says many moms. But “Do as I say, not as I do,” when it does take the form of inconsistency, can also undermine your intentions as a parent.

be_influencer

The research points to three consequences of inconsistency.

1. First, the effects of your teaching are diminished when deeds and words are not in line. The more inconsistent you are, the more you will hear yourself saying, “How many times have I told you not to do that?”

2. Second, children can readily recognize inconsistencies, and they become more upset with their inconsistent parents than children who have parents who are more consistent. And although even small children can readily report on parental inconsistencies, they usually wait until adolescence to throw them in their parents’ faces.

3. Third, a parent who does one thing but expects or demands the opposite from a child is more likely to have discipline problems and more likely to punish a lot in the effort to overcome the influence of his or her own modeling.

4. Lastly, Never ever give FALSE HOPES. And, just say lies or even fulfil demands to make them do what you want.

The main idea to bear in mind here is that modeling—teaching by example—affects behavior far more than telling your children what to do (and far more than punishing them, too).

Adopt your Parenting style with care and this is the need of the hour. Children learn a lot by observing and they have the sharp observation skills.

Positive Parenting for Imperfect Parents – Adopt Strategy. Be Calm, Listen, Get Connected.

Sometimes we need a reminder to just STOP. NOTHING is more important than letting our children be who they are. We need to ask them why before simply saying NO. Do This and Don’t Do This often ends up to power struggles, yells, stubborn, rage flicks and Undisciplined Attitude. Discipline the child without shouting and spanking. Talk and be friendly. Divert the mind yet be firm or just let go at times if not much pricky.

Free range Parenting often works especially for smart kid and allow the child curiosity by giving freedom without going nuts with worry.

Transforming self and empowering children is need of the hour with Patience and mindful Parenting.

Shy Kids? Shy off the blues!

Parenting shy kids is often a block to overcome. Quite often parents stumble to say “My son is shy” or “He’s the shy one in the family” – This can backfire. People would often tag his as a shy one and treat him differently and reinforce his fear that something is wrong with him. Professional Football player and broadcaster Merlin Olsen almost gave up high school football because primary school classmates had labelled him “clumsy’. He felt so shy that he was reluctant to join in games. Olsen’s parents urged him to reject the labels and stand up for himself. One day, out of his annoyance, Olsen taught a child a lesson who teased him and after this incident, it was wonders that he came out of shyness. Schoolmates didn’t bully him anymore. It is here that one needs to be sympathetic and not critical to a child’s shy feelings. Boost the child’s ego. Such shy kids do have a poor self image and need special help dealing with rejection. Praise his strengths and brush off his weaknesses.

Here are some Kidsfreesouls tips to help to shrug off the ‘shy blues’ :

1. Build Confidence : Shyness robs a child many opportunities. Build the confidence. Praise his strengths and encourage him when he is a loser. Your motivation always counts.

2. Boost the Ego: Don’t let the child down. Every child lives with self esteem. Boost his ego and inspire him at every step. A shy child often back away. Instead, motivate him by saying, “Yes, you did it last time, You can do it now’

3. Teach art of conversation: Shy child often lack communication. Maybe, not. However, encouraging to talk with topics of interest may trigger innerself and they may engage in conversation to opine their views. Some children who do not speak are presumed as ‘shy nature’ whereas in real sense, they need to communicate, discuss, debate with others. This will help to shrug off ‘shy blues.’

4. Family bonds: A family bonded together makes a big difference. Let there be closeness and a unity in the family. Often the kids are keen observers and whatever they see and hear, reflects on their attitude. A stressed child is hurt out of love for the parents if there is even a slight bickering or fight between them. This may turn to his withdrawal and signals of introvert attitude and turn him to be ‘silent’ or ‘shy’ out of hurt feelings and lack of confidence.

5. Teach social skills: A simple ‘Hi or Hello’ – a wishing here and there, on occasions and even being open to thoughts. Simply let the kids engage for a while even when your friends are around instead of shooing them off to their room. Do not ever tell them, “Go to your room” while you try to teach them manners. Help them to be courteous to say, Hi and talk to the guest for some time before they leave you alone. Nobody likes to be ‘unwanted.’

6. Engage in Activities: If you find your child shying away or rather slow to communication, engage in activities that calls for debating, group activities, etc. Kinds vibe well together while they work, play or choose for creative activities like coloring, music, sports, playing computer games, etc. Children love Activities of their interest which keep them live and going.

7. Ask for help at school: Shyness often shows itself at school. Talk to your child’s teacher. Inform her of special interests about which the child may be questioned and so gradually, the teacher can encourage him to take courage to answer more questions spontaneously.

Many times, parents often get stressed with children esp. in vacations when they constantly get bored playing indoors. Call in playmates into your home instead of sending him out saying “Go to Bins House to play” . Throw parties like ‘archie reading’, ‘cartoon watching’, ‘singing hour’ – support with their favorite simple things to eat like wafers, biscuits and cookies, sandwiches and soft drinks. Children will love this and so will your child.

It’s patience that is all the way needed by a parent or a teacher to tackle with the issue of shyness. It’s understanding, patience to support and patience not to demand results. Loving way makes wonders and kids can be pulled out of his shyness, just by ‘Tender Loving Care’.

Keep the Faith!

Hands on Parenting

hoparenting

Hands on Parenting – Power is with you

Life tread on a faster trail as moms today have tough parental responsibilities to up bring children. The 21st century tech savvy kids know all and get all to the extent that they have not learnt to listen to ‘NO.’

Parents are being too protective to the child and do things for them when they should be allowed to do on their own. She turns to be a ‘Helicopter Mom’ who over indulges in petty things and hovers over the children and their activities.

Being an Involved parent is to protect kids but ‘Over Indulging involvement’ being paranoid to allow children to let them attempt to be on their own, is dangerous. Fear grips fear and suspicion leads to guilt. All sorts of negativity surfaces in children when too much of indulgence adds up to their lives as they turn to Speaking lies, rebelling, gettingdestructive, out bursting and turn to a nasty brat sort of attitude. Involving, on the other hand is hands-on-parenting being fair, consistent and allowing freedom with guidance and nurturing the genius in a child.

hands-on-parentingIt is important to instill a sense of Independence in children. Help them to be responsible. Resist to carry their school bags, do their homework for them, organize their room, carry their plates or feed them always what they want or get things when they ask without a ‘NO’ – pampering in limitless way. Over Indulgence and Over Attention are two things to keep a vigil check on, as a parent. Too much of over indulgence ends up to a disobedient, rigid or a self centered child whereas too much of over attentiveness causes a child to be unsure, insecure, indecisive, totally lacking in confidence.

This makes me mention on a study conducted by the Columbia University-based National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse looked specifically at the effect of “hands-on” versus “hands-off” parenting on tween and teen behavior. Not surprisingly, the study found that kids who live in highly structured households (hands-on parenting) were at significantly lower risk for substance abuse and other risk-taking behaviors than were children who lived in less structured homes (hands-off parenting). The behaviors examined included smoking cigarettes, substance use and abuse, and other risk-taking behaviors by the children as well as by their friends.

The research was held on youngsters ranging from 12 to 17 years. Three levels of parenting were discerned – Hands on Parenting, Hands off Parenting and Half Hearted. 27% kids reportedly lived on ‘Hands on household’, 55% on ‘half hearted’ parenting style homes and 18% described as ‘hands off’ parenting style. This particularly does not mean Indian homes are way back in Parenting style due to culture conflicts. The cultural shift is fast pacing up with indicators queries to identify parenting styles with homegrown kids more facing the brunt of ‘half hearted’ parenting and ‘hands off’ parenting styles.

Here are some Indicators used to know the Parenting Style: Identify whether it is ‘hands on’, ‘half hearted’ or ‘hands off’ – who could be the better judge than a parent!

Parents monitor what the child is watching on Television
Parents impose choice of music while listening or buying
Parents are aware of the child’s school activities
Parents monitor internet activities of the child
Parents expect to be told truthfully where the child is going with friends
Parents make a practice to have at least dinner together six days a week
Parents make sure the television is switched off while dinner time
When the child returns home, an adult is at home
The child is taught to be organized and responsible for certain chores
Parents make clear with choice of friends, habits and use four magic words ‘I can’t afford it’

How did you fare? Rate yourself. I have always been more caring, involved and observant parent. I passed in many categories but nevertheless, my ‘hands on’ parenting style did the magic for a responsible matured boy when he grew up. Hands on parenting averts the kid risk taking behavior. With new generation frustration, hands off parenting pace in way with half hearted parenting styles. With independent lifestyles after joint family break ups, working moms and other responsibilities, it is important to focus on parenting styles – preferably it has to be ‘hands on’ parenting.

It is here where parents need to build own confidence, know their own fears and anxiety and as teachers, need to know the strength and capacity of the child before expecting a lot from him. Hovering over a child is indeed making him less confident and even getting introvert. Nobody likes to be watched to told to do ‘this and that’ – Disciplining has its own way.

So, what to do? How do you help your child to be Independent and responsible? I tried my way and laid down the rules with hands on parenting and even while teaching children. Hands on parenting, a follow through consistently and participating in a child’s day to day routine. More, offer supportive approach, using involving tactics with indulgence when required need arose.

Here are some Kidsfreesouls tips to help be Hands-on-Parenting

1. Be a friend and keep the faith

2. Monitor their activities. Guide when necessary

3. Monitor their Television / Internet viewing and offer your choice

4. Provide assistance for learning but refrain from doing their homework

5. Never say, ‘My child is over-burdened’ – Instead, set time schedules. Most of the time, it happens, your unorganized time schedule clashes with the child’s routine.

6. Know their friends and show interest.

7. Learn to Say ‘No’ – the biggest mistake parent every makes is not saying ‘No’ – Explain why you say ‘No’ and be firm.

8. Encourage and inspire

9. Discipline with tact Parents and Teachers influence children. They are the ones who create Genius in a child. So, go ahead – enjoy influencing and try Hands-on-parenting – The power is within ‘YOU”

Dig your heels and do what is right. Your Child’s behavior, safety, success and accomplishment depends on care and nurture which reflects your concerns too.

Brat Kids or Lovable Angels?

BRAT KIDS OR LOVABLE ANGELS?

Sometime ago, I came across a parent who wanted to enroll her child to my Library and she labelled her child as ‘Bratatouille’ – She almost bitterly blurred out words of hidden anger and frustration as she even considered herself ‘Unlucky’ to have such a kid. She wanted me to counsel her child and help her out in teaching him right manners.

Well, as the child takes the first steps, parents often are thrilled with the experience of the little gestures and smiles of the baby. They pamper around and call nick names. As he grows up to understanding age of 4-12 years, the child becomes a brat as like a monster, shouts and screams, giggles at guests or never leave you alone. So, what went wrong? Why do they act this way? Ever wonder about their attitudes and you come closer to the answer “Why my child acts the way I don’t like’. Some reasons can be:

1. The child needs your attention. Maybe you are a working mom or too busy in your life with other things to do, the child is often neglected. Especially, when you don’t have time to listen to his sweet, silly talks. Here’s when he finds challenging to draw your attention.

2. Today’s kids are savvy. They know the tricks of the trade to appear angelic and they tell all kinds of tales to make believe. Let them feel you are much clever and can see their tricks. Do not get into arguments but nevertheless allow them to over-rule you.

3. Jealousy is always have deep roots especially siblings which turn them nasty. A child feels that the other is the apple of the eye of the parent. So, treat both equal. Do not praise much or criticize in front of the other. Pay equal attention, give equal pocket money or favor them equally. Don’t let them feel down or lower.

4. In social gatherings, don’t just ignore the child or else, he is sure to create tension while he tries to draw your attention. When guests turn up, the child may bang on the music loud or play the games on their PS2 to irritate you. Hence, occupy them in their interest and teach the right manners.

5. Kids with no activities often get bored. Books, television, friends or games – all often get them distracted after some time. Keep them busy as bored equals naughty equals brats.

6. Do not React too far. Avoid their uncomfortable questions and keep your cool. Silence and tact brings in results of good behavior. A yell, spanking is a big ‘NO’ as love, care and understanding works.

7. Don’t complain – to your family members, teachers or their friends about their mis-behavior. Every child is different and needs love and understanding. Reacting adds to hurt self esteem and further disturbs his and your peace of mind.

8. Introvert kids are often the result of neglect. Reason out and convince that you have your own job and friends just as he has his friends and school.

Some common traits of bad behavior child

Constantly Throws Tantrums
Whines from the Moment He Wakes Up from sleep
Hits, Push and pull, grabs and act funny
Acts Bossy and sometimes embarass in front of others
Acts defiant and calls for bribes
Talks rude and rubbish
Controls your life and caretakers by screams and demands
Gets bored too quick

Children who are lazy, over stimulated, ungrateful and greedy often are a breed of disorganized, over stressed, frustrated or just who’ve adopted Negative, Authorative and Permissive parenting styles.

Psychotherapist Robi Ludwig, Psy.D, Katie Bugbee, Care.com’s global parenting expert, and Nancy Samalin, author of “Loving Without Spoiling” both agree that we’re living in an age of child-centric homes. Whether both parents work and feel guilty for spending too much time at the office or they just can’t stand to see their children cry (or are too tired to deal with it). Permissive parenting has created an entitled set of kids. “Being too permissive usually involves our bribing and pleading and often giving in. “It means saying ‘No’, but they are not sure and mean ‘Probably not’ or ‘I’m not sure” which may feel loving in the moment, but gives the child too much power.” Some parents miss child’s feeling and tend to spank or be Authorative which only leads to make a stubborn child. Conservative parents are possessive to their demands and almost suspicious. They punish, yell, hit and such kids remember this experience when they grow up. Neither Authorative or Permissive Parenting instill positive approach.

Instead, Parenting with Love, care, patience and understanding demonstrate values and are considerate in their disciplined upbringing. Moreover, Parents who give Temptation is sure to invite troubles and is advisable to treat kids right. “I will bring a chocolate for you” or “I will take you to Merry go round if you do this” is like icing the cake and eventually turning sour as temptations don’t work and the child starts throwing tantrums…in comes physical and emotional verbal blows…

We don’t call children brats but it’s good parenting without guilt. Render discipline without anger and reward for good behavior. Always do not over-schedule yourself nor your child’s work. Have play time and outings together. A friendly and loving attitude establish better relationships. Enjoy.

Read Aloud – Children Love it

readaloud main

Reading aloud to children helps them develop oral language. It teaches them how to listen and how narrative is structured.

They also learn vocabulary and how print works and that it is read from left to right,” says UAB Associate Professor of education Kathleen Martin. She further says, “Reading aloud helps to develop oral language. It teaches children how to listen and how narrative is structured. They also learn vocabulary and how print works and is read from left to right.”

Scholastic Kids & Family Reading ReportTM: (http://www.scholastic.com/readingreport/reading-aloud.htm)

Fifth Edition is information on what kids want in books, findings taken from a nationally representative survey of parents and

students. You can read more about that in the post below about Reading aloud books to children at home.

Nine in 10 parents (91%) say their children are read books aloud at home before age 6, primarily to develop their child’s vocabulary and language skills and to foster reading

enjoyment.

Percentage of Parents Who Say Their Child Was Read Books Aloud at Home Before Age 6 and Reasons Reading Aloud Started

Base: Parents of Children Ages 0–17

More than half of children ages 0–5 (54%) are read aloud at home 5–7 days a week. This declines to only one in three kids ages 6–8 (34%) and to one in six kids ages 9–11

(17%).

Nearly one in four parents of children ages 6–17 (23%) stopped reading aloud to their children before age 9, most often citing reasons related to their child reading

independently.

Percentage of Parents Who Say Their Child Stopped Being Read Books Aloud at Home Before Age 9 and Reasons Reading Aloud Stopped

Base: Parents of Children Ages 6–17

75%said my child is old enough to read ; 58% revealed my child wanted to read independently; 49% wanted to promote reading independently

As a child grows up gracefully, it is normally felt that they can now read independently and do not require to be read aloud. However, many children ages 6–11 (40%) did not

want their parents to stop reading aloud to them.

In the age group of 6-8 – 48% loved – 38 % liked to read aloud at home.

In the age group of 9-11 – 43% loved – 42% liked to read aloud at home.

In the age group of 12-14 – 40% loved – 40% liked to read aloud at home.

The top reason children say they enjoy being read aloud to is that it’s a special time with their parents.

96% parents below 5 said it is important for their kids to read books for fun. 61% believed it was extremely important whereas 35% revealed as very important. From age group

6 – 17, the percentage went lower to 45% as extremely important.

89% said, Developing Vocabulary and language skills and using their imagination are the top benefits they want their kids to gain from reading books for fun. 86% for using

imagination. 76% excited about reading. 74% being successful in school and 61% for spending time away from Technology.

It is important to note that Six in 10 parents of children ages 0–5 (60%) received advice that children should be read aloud to from birth, yet just under half of parents in

lower-income households (47%) received this advice. The common advice to read aloud came from books, magazines, friends, family and pediatricians.

Reasons for Reading Aloud

read aloud reasons

At a time when reading is on back seat and Technology steps in the front with kids turning more savvy with gadget use and computers, here is some interesting information you

can find at Scholastic. State of Kids and reading, What Kids want in Books, Reading in School, etc are the other topics that you might be interested to take a peek-a-boo.

Some insights – Why Read Aloud

Swagat Children Library (http://www.kidsfreesouls.com/index.php/Swagat-Children-Library/) conducted ‘Read Aloud’ Sessions. The results are not only amazing, children wanted to read more and even narrated the stories with expressions. Enhanced vocabulary and fluency in reading was found. Also provided stage platform to break stage fear and face the audience. Voice modulation is evaluated. Short stories/lessons to be taken for loud reading. Kids friendly books, magazine articles will spark interest and discussion to add dimension to reading. Reading dramatically will draw interest to kids keeping in mind the phonics and style of reading. To add creativity, add the word cloud theme online. Just go for Creativity online for Projects – A word Art ‘Words as image’ and choose words from read aloud. Word clouds, shapes and different text, colors etc is just fun esp. when images are needed for Projects. I have used this in my Swagat Children Library classroom assignments and kids love to explore online smile emoticon Tagxedo, wordle.net, typoeffects.com and many more….‪#‎Parents‬ and ‪#‎Teachers‬ only need to explore with the children and have fun.

Why Read Aloud?
