Lead from Within – Influence People

“Leadership demands fluidity, which requires the willingness to recognize the need for change, and finally, the ability to lead change.”

It’s always wise to learn from mistakes because than your mistakes are worthwhile which eventually rectify errors. This requires to identify blind spots in leadership. Sometimes, character and attitude plays a big role. The inflated ego comes in way and then, there is lack of confidence which need a trigger shoot up to boost capabilities. Such Leaders have the tendency to be less accountable and enthrust blind trust to others. The feeling of trust and loyalty goes wane with false belief that backfires in longer run.

Here’s when three main things need to be focused:

Identifying need for change

Leading the change

Managing the Change

Influencing isn’t a cup of tea to be gulped too quick but rathar raise the efficiency and attitude to be a leader to be admired. One need to be led by example. And, this may range from puntuality, regularity, trust, belief, optimistic spirit, no gossipy or negativity, respecting others, involving them for projects and listening. This also means, delegating with vision and model the initiative by demonstrating how you can churn out results with your own expertise, strenth and guidance.

Cultural and societal influence do play a pivotol role. However, Psychologists rank the basic human need for power and status right up there with the need for affiliation and achievement. Though power (having the ability to control resources) and status (being held in high regard by others) often go together, they are not perfectly correlated.

Fragale, who studies hierarchies in groups, observed that people who have power without status have a hard time in their organizations. If somebody else is taking decisions, the boss no longer means sitting on a high chair or managing things.

Power and status too, play a role with a societal influence.Power is something people can take; status is not. “You don’t get to decide how much status you get. Status is a phenomenon that exists solely in the heads of others.

The Role of Influence in Leadership occurs when a person’s emotions, opinions, or behaviors are affected by others. It is an important component of a leader’s ability to use power and maintain respect in an organization. To influence, from a management perspective, recognize who you’re giving power to and how they’re viewed by their coworkers and subordinates. This is the tricky part but most necessary for the organization.

The key to successful Leadership is Influence and not Authority, says Kenneth Blanchard.  It is always good to ponder and start the day by thinking, “I start each by telling myself how Positive Influence I am to this world. We often talk about a good leader who lifts up others. Though, it is most necessary to lift people who walk by and stand by with you. It is not needed to heed to disloyal – naysayers who backfire your dreams or let you down at every step because in this case, You are the Problem and you have to derive the solutions.

Leadership itself has the capacity to understand and influence people to act independently with responsibility. Call it, a subset of Power, Leadership might be coersive and related to direction. If these Directions misfire, the influenced Leadership shatters to doom and a positive action requires to recharge situations.

Finally, Influence do pay a big role. And, it is tact. A word, a smile, a glance, an admiration and strategic thinking makes a big difference.

This requires a motivation, a vision and an influence as the writer shares the principles of management through real life anecdotes, charts and graphs.

A truly inspiring book that reveals wiz ways to excel and be a Leader. Interesting strips portray Leadership qualities with real life examples and sure, this becomes a quick ‘glance read’ chirping the zeal in to strife for successive climb. I’ve always recommended Management Quotes book of Pramod Batra and so is this Book on top of my Charts. Influence always make a big difference and this book implies the influential tricks to scale high to be a leader. Maxwell’s techniques prove to be genuine stuff and anyways, the picked topics speak wide :

She Means Business

Are you a women in Business – committed or planned to launch a business? When women succeed, we all win.

Around the globe in general, Women make up 40 percent of the world’s workforce. Many of the sectors that are critical for economic growth in some of the poorest countries rely heavily on women. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with female ownership represent 30 percent to 37 percent of all SMEs (8 million to 10 million women-owned firms) in emerging markets. These businesses have unmet financial needs of between US$260 billion and US$320 billion a year. This is their biggest barrier to growth and development.

Access to credit can open up economic opportunities for women, and bank accounts can be a gateway to the use of additional financial services. However, women entrepreneurs and employers face significantly greater challenges than men in gaining access to financial services.

The World Bank’s Gender at Work report (2014) asserts: “On virtually every global measure, women are more economically excluded than men.”

“Women entrepreneurs face more challenges that their male counterparts in their journeys towards business success, particularly with regard to raising capital. This is in spite of women-owned businesses accounting for approximately 40% of all privately-held business in the USA, employing more than 13 million people and generating $1.9 trillion USD in sales as of 2008.” reports Executive Producer Baptist of ‘She Means Business’ Documentary film.

She Means Business Documentary film is dedicated to shedding important light on the major triumphs, experiences and insights of women entrepreneurs today.  The film, which is in the fundraising stage via Kickstarter, explores the key challenges female entrepreneurs face and offers education, inspiration and information to help women overcome these challenges and move forward with their entrepreneurial ventures with greater success.

Though, the Gujarat and Indian Government comes with women empowerment and MSME schemes, there is a dire need and major step to be taken in addressing Gender inequality by raising the stature of women in business and making their voices heard, a very important move for our economy and our country at this time.

Speaking from experience as one who has come across many women entrepreneurs, I think, women are achieving fantastic business success today, success we wouldn’t have dreamed of fifty years ago.  They are hard working, determined and highly successful.

However, while making enormous inroads in entrepreneurial success, some women still struggle with two key dimensions: 1) successfully navigating the financial ecosystem to get funding, and 2) stepping up with confidence, perseverance and full-out commitment to achieving their entrepreneurial visions.

How long will it take to read Books

Books are considered not only the best friends but are also gifts of learning that can enrich and improve one’s lives.

With everything – information, entertainment videos and even books within reach through the internet, it is a challenge to pick up books and engage with the author, story, character and ideas presented in the reading passage or book.

Here are some all time popular books and estimated how long it would take the average reader to finish by multiplying word count by the average person’s reading speed, 300 words per minute, which will give you an approximate gauge of how long it will take any of the following great books.

Reading difficulty should be considered as well, as for most it may take longer to read an old book such Homer’s The Odyssey versus a newer text such as The Hunger Games. So, don’t set your watch with this guide – use it as a rough gauge to inform your next reading session. Enjoy the infographic!

Exclusive Children's Literature Festival is organized at Kala Ghoda in Mumbai from 2nd to 10th February, 2013.  Lubaina Bandukwala, children’s writer and editor has taken pains to curate this children’s literature festival. He says, “There is a larger variety of excellent books set in the Indian context available now, so our children can relate to and be a part of them. Yet not many children or parents are exposed to these books, these books are hardly found in mainstream stores and libraries. I thought an interactive literature fest will be the best way for children to experience the magic of books."
