Pamper your child the right way
When it comes to pampering your kids, it can be tough to strike the right balance between treating them like little princesses and princes and adequately disciplining them. We understand that you want to make them feel special as well as rewarded while also ensuring that they aren’t becoming spoiled. As parents, we all feel the vast amount of pressure to find these balances with our children. Keep reading about the best ways to pamper kids without spoiling them!
Set limits – when it comes to pampering your children, buying them gifts, and rewarding them, it’s important to set limits. These limits should be centered around how much is spent on your kids as well as how often they are receiving special rewards. Furthermore, make sure that your kids are well aware of these limits as soon as they are old enough to understand them.
Instill the right values in your kids – kiddos learn through their parents, so it’s important to teach your kids the values you want them to have starting at a young age as they will carry them their whole life through. Lead by example, treating those around you (including your kids!) with love and respect at all times. Showing your kids these values and pampering them accordingly once you see them actively displaying them is a great way to positively reinforce good behavior.
Treat siblings equally – especially when it comes to pampering your kids, you should be careful not to differentiate too much between siblings. Doing so will only encourage jealousy and rivalry between your kiddos, which is definitely not something you want to encourage!
Now for the fun part – pampering ideas for when your kids deserve a reward! Take a look below at some great ways to pamper your kids while ensuring you’re not crossing the line of spoiling.
Take them on a lunch date – make a date with your child to reward good behavior! They will love spending some quality time with you and going out to eat is always a treat for any kiddo.
Send them a note – putting a special note or card in your child’s lunch is a great way to make them feel special and loved. They’ll be the envy of their classmates and will treasure the card for a long time to come!
Treat them to something sweet – while you don’t want to let your kids eat too much junk food, letting them indulge in a sweet treat every once in awhile is a fantastic way to pamper them that they’re sure to love! Consider getting them a candy subscription that they can look forward to all month long and receive as a special reward. It’ll be something fun for them and it is a perfect way for them to feel like they’re getting the royal treatment!
Let them pick dinner – letting your kids choose what the family will have for dinner on a weeknight is a great way for them to feel special and important. Then, you can even let them help you cook so that they can spend some quality time with you all while enjoying themselves.
Have a beach day – pack up the car and bring your kids for a day at the beach! Let them splash in the water, build sandcastles, and soak up the sun. Your kids will have a ball and you’ll have fun, too! Just don’t forget the sunblock.
As a parent, pampering your kids is a fun way to give them enjoyment and also build your bond with them at the same time. Your kids will be sure to thank you for any pampering, and you’ll love knowing all the childhood memories you will be helping them create.

Master your Moods
A change in lifestyle with the new age generation has led to parenting influence with anxiety and stress. Life has changed from what it used to be earlier with no more joint families in Indian homes. A lot of pressure in upbringing the child with problems likes hyperactive, disciplining them, educating and even teaching life skills.
It has been researched that busy parents and school burden have ended up to effects of stress and anxiety on children. Though kids are better able to manage emotions and get focused, be calm and get better sleep – parents are the reverse. They often are more stressed balancing work and family. At times, getting socializing is skipped except on social networks.
Children are dependent on parents for their every need and as they grow up, it is fondness and security that calls for from parents.
It is here that calls for health concerns as stressed parent get into strained relations – in joint families, with partner, at work place, etc. Emotions are like wild cards in human intelligence. They fit into the routine of every day life and to cope up with day to day living, it often gives more stressful living.
Hence, Master your Moods. The mood cycle keeps changing and its best to ‘Think wise’ and set right the mood with simple thoughtful tips.
Get enough sleep – Sleep Less & Live more but be sure to get recharged as sub optimal amounts of sleep can play havoc with out emotions. Mood swings causing trouble to control anger if you are tired and cranky. The brain cells weaken with fatigue and ‘off mood’ stinks bubbling depressive feelings
Be Positive – Everything around us is essentially neutral; we impose the value, either positive or negative. Most of the time, a human mind impose negative thoughts, an insight that often ‘snaps’ out. Most of the fears do not turn true and those who fear generally bump into mood swings. The quick fix is simply to smile bad moods away. It becomes easier to conquer the mind and keeps you cool and relax.
Keep in touch with Nature – Banish the blues as contact with nature is thought by many experts to contribute to optimal moods. Staying in full traffic is more tiring than taking a stroll in a garden. Set right the mood by enjoying nature – the sun, moon and the stars, the birds and the trees and all beauty around. Even children love to play in the park.
Let there be Good food – Mood swings are often fuelled by neurotransmitters in the brain that are turned on and off by the food we eat or we don’t. Drinking tea or coffee with fewer intakes of food swings the mood as poor eating habits makes you cranky. Balanced food diet with limit intake of caffeine and sugar lowers the irritability. Dehydration can cause fatigue and hence, drinking six to eight glasses of water per day is must.
Entertain yourself – Listen to good music to keep you in good spirits. Relax those brain cells with soft, melodious, meditative music. Listening to Rock and heavy metal blurs the mind cells. Entertaining the children with their kids songs and rhymes.
Be active & keep moving – A brisk walk for ten minutes boosts energy and reduces tension immediately. Engage in an activity that suits your taste especially when mood swings up and it disappears with diverted attention. Being active makes a big difference as laziness only sulks you down. You will also instill a habit in the child.
Pinpoint the problem – Before you fret and fume over a problem, discover the problem itself ‘why did this happen’, what is the course of action, and things would not seem bad. A solution will find its way as anxiety disappears making you clearly see the problem and deriving to solutions or just forget – Blast the problem!
Most of the books are written on How to check Emotions in Children but I think, mastering moods of parents will help them better in understanding their parenting role and help in developing Emotional Quotient in themselves as well as the child. Of course, with the addition of SQ (Spiritual Quotient).

How to memorize and recite a poetry
Simple tips on how to memorize and recite a poetry
Charge of the Light Brigade – Cannon to the Right of them, Cannon to the Left of them, Cannon in front of them, Volley’d and thunder’d; ….I still remember this poem which we had to memorize in the classroom and as we teach our kids Literature, it is very important to explain about the poet and in which context the poetry was written. Another thing important is teaching children how to recite the poem. We almost find children saying poetry or a story with no expressions and in a hurried style with mugged up learning. It is important to know the meaning of the poem and recite in a way which becomes interesting to the listener. When a child have to recite a poem, it may so happen that he may skip off words or a line and when prompted, he continues reciting. Reciting poetry is much more than memorizing. Reading aloud confusedly mars the experience of the listener but well said poetry can carry a good emotional rapport.
When I teach poetry in the class, it is more than memorizing. Expressions have a way in recitation. So do the child learn the poetry in a manner that prompts with rhyme patterns and meter that make it easy to flash memory.
Here are some simple tips on how to memorize and recite a poetry. You can help the child with slow and gradual progress which even makes them learn and recite poetry from school syllabus. It even becomes an interesting learning and teaching experience as well.
1. Understanding the poetry: When children are taught poetry, first explain the poetry. Talk about the Poet/Author and when or why he wrote the poetry. A brief biography of the poet will make interesting poetry session before they memorize the poem.
2. Natural Tone : Maintain the voice tone. Ignore punctuation or breaks and pauses. Recite quite normally in a natural voice with no excitement or pitched up voice throughout recitation. However, to be expressive, vary pitch and volume though in a natural tone instead of being hyper.
3. Focus on Phonetics: A read aloud Poetry can be interesting with focused phonetics. Check those ‘vowels and consonants that can be spoken with clarity of voice. Using right language leave impressions and makes the child feel better to hear his own clear, well pronounced voice.
4. Be Expressive : Most of the time, children are not expressive when reciting poetry and they speak aloud the mugged learning. It so happens, they fail to remember and when prompted, they can finish the stanza. It also turn them up being embarrassed when reciting in front of an audience and they forget in-between the lines. Facial expressions and hand movements understanding the poetry lines can help children to present the recital in an interesting and confident manner. Gesture is to be maintained for effect.
5. Write and re-write revision: Children can write and re-write the poetry 2/3 times in their scrap with supportive drawing and coloring. Let them identify the parts they find difficult to remember. Help them visualize the poetry and what it is about. Help them plan where to pause and stop with smooth flow to continue. Avoid sing-song tactics.
6. Easy Recitation : For easy reciting on the stage, slow down. Speaking aloud faster tends to make the child forget as they easily get distracted at times. Slowing down helps them gain confidence and be less nervous. Even the audience will love to enjoy listening.
7. Rote learning : Some children love to learn repetition. Go back to the rote learning nursery rhymes and have fun for a while. Even sing along rote songs like ‘In a cottage, In a wood’, skipping every one line while they enjoy action. Rote learning and visualizing helps faster learning and memorizing.
8. Posture and Dressing: A well dressed child is always confident. And, the posture comes with confidence. Help the children to possess good posture and dressing while they are ready to perform. A well presented child on stage leaves impressive image to the audience.
9. Eye Contact: The most important part while reciting on stage is eye contact. Some children look down while saying the poetry. Some tend to look here and there and than get lost in imagination or get distracted. This leads to nervousness and forgetful. While recitation is on, the eye contact should be beyond the audience and even turning towards sides towards the audience as if to capture all of the listeners.
10. Never get embarrassed: Children often tend to make mistakes. Never get embarrassed and pass on your vibrations to them. Patience is always a key to success. Never tell the child to say, “I’m sorry’ as apologizing messes up and they lose interest in poetry and memorizing becomes a pain for them.
How often we run away from the things we don’t like yet have to do? When I learnt Tennyson’s poetry, I still remember those lines “Cannon to the Left of them, Cannon in front of them, Volley’d and thunder’d; ….” and smooth went on reciting the poetry and having fun too.
Well, 6th August was a day to remember Alfred Lord Tennyson and interestingly, he was known as Lord because of the Peerage titles I guess just like Lord Byron.

Heart Beats : On a Trail
My friend who always had been rocking with high spirits and an exercise freak, faced a sudden stroke which landed her up for a paralytic treatment. One wonders how can a person who kept so busy, always chirps around jovially and so determined for fitness and health concerns, hook up to such a mess signs of health disorders! I remember, she often use to complain of dizzy feelings sometimes and she had the high rapid beats of the heart. She suffered from asthma sometimes during winter but otherwise, she had a very busy schedule from morning to evening.
Later on, I realized this could be a case of AF – the Atrial Fibrillation, an ailment that troubled her since quite long. 2.2 Million Americans are facing this problem disease. With the fast tech age life, executives too, have a routine of several meetings, innumerable cups of coffee, late hours preparing power packed presentations and very little time for exercise and self indulgence. Stressed or call it over-stressed, they feel relaxed in their own state of mind. So much that people often ignore the fact that their heart beats unusually rapidly at short intervals leaving them dizzy and sweaty. Often this is brushed off as hectic work schedules, pre-occupied work hours and they tend to get agitated over trivial issues.
The heart contracts at a very irregular and sometimes very rapid rate. Blood isn’t pumped completely out of them, hence it pools and clots. If a piece of a blood clot in the atria leaves the heart and becomes lodged in an artery in the brain, the blockage of blood flow results in a brain stroke. Even, it can occur when blood flow is reduced because of a blockage in one or more of the arteries that supply blood to the brain.
AF symptoms are usually racing, uncomfortable, irregular heart beat or a ‘flopping’ in the chest. Dizziness, sweating and chest pain also can occur. In cases, difficulty in breathing, feeling of weakness and being unable to cope up after exercise occurs. The people with such symptoms always feel ‘Oh, I keep so busy and its work stress’ but since they are not aware of invisible symptoms like high BP and diabetes, they tend to ignore. A problem with lung, asthma can result to AF and ultimately the stroke that shatters finally, either bed ridden for days or fatal – one never knows.
So oft, we tend to ignore getting ourselves checked up by a Doc but this is a risk coz, a physician can usually detect AF by listening to the heart with a stethoscope or taking a pulse at the wrist. I read somewhere that there is also a cardio mapping which target areas and address the problem with some kind of waves (I am not sure!)
I guess, a stitch in time saves nine. Dizziness signals and all is not right. The dizziness disappear but it’s time to spare some moments for own health. Especially, when we are all worked up with day to day life and at the end of the day, think that its stress, less sleep hours out of living lifestyle and eating whatever comes the way – its trouble-shooting health safety.

Yoga: Mind, Body & soul
The word Yoga itself means to join, unite or merge. Derived from the sanskrit root yuj, Yoga is a science and an art. Practiced by thousands of people round the world, it integrates the body with the mind and the mind with the soul, thereby helping us to understand or own natures and to live harmoniously with people around us. Some people are aware of Yoga as the Asanas and meditation. In fact, I think it’s an eight fold path called Ashtanga Yoga (eight limbs)
The commandments are:
1. Yana:-
Ahimsa : Non violence
Satya : Truth & Honesty
Brahmacharya : Continence & self control
Aparigraha : Non accumulation of needless wealth
2. Niyama:- Personal disciplines
Saucha: Cleanliness & Purity
Santosha: Satisfaction & contentment
Tapas : Austerity, ability to bear hardship
Svadhyaya : Introspection
Ishvara : faith in god
3. Asana: Postures
4. Pranayama : Control of breadth and bio energy
5. Pratyahara: Withdrawal of the sense organs from the objects of sense
6. Dharana : Intense concentration for developing inner vision
7. Dhyana : Meditation, uninterrupted and deep concentration for a prolonged period.
8. Samadhi : The goal of Yoga, attained after the dhyana.
It is said, as a river merges into the ocean and becomes one with it, so also the individual self merges into the Universal spirit and becomes one. Peace and happiness are a way to experience as all polarities such as pain and pleasure, good and bad vanish.
When we often talk of Health & fitness, we tend to miss out on the right way of living and this comes with an attitude – Yoga is all about Attitudes and even we focus on one of the commandments, we could bring about a lot of difference!

Beat the Stress
Stress has become a normal part of life and usually comes from every day occurrences. Eliminate stress. A car skids on any icy road, jerks at a bumpy drive or its applying abrupt brakes in hectic traffic areas.
It’s apt to make your body on full alert, ready for action. You have an argument with a friend or at office, your body becomes charged up with the brain cells triggering emotions and there lo, it’s stress. However, each individual has different effects and much depends on how you perceive and cope with trouble. If every problem serve as catastrophe, the level of stress apt to shoot up. Here is when we need to check the problems in the coolest way possible.
I remember one of our business associate talking of interrupted workplace meditation every thirty minutes of working to release stress. If sitting at a desk makes one feel stiff and stressed, its way to head doorway for 30 second stretching routine or pace up and down while you attend the phone calls. Listen to music for a while, recordings of nature sounds or meditation music.
An instant calming sequence is a technique. Yoga and meditation are methods to reduce stress. Making friends, getting a pet, engaging into an activity like flying a kite or playing a favorite board game is relaxing. Get enough sleep, engage into volunteer work and truly enjoy any hobby. It’s up to us to keep a record of things that make us feel stressed and derive solutions. This record of stress will make us aware of the real stressors in our life. We permit ourselves to be imperfect and this imperfection helps one to reduce stress. For eg. I have no time to wash dishes and it’s time to rush for office or else I am late. Leave the dishes for later wash if you can’t risk the job. Understand to manage time better next time instead of getting into a stressful attitude.
Finally, get into learning ways. Endless learning is like ‘Knowledge is Power’ – An enriching, rewarding experience and building your very own Personality.

Learning to write a poetry
Parents want their kids to write Poetry and so do teachers give assignments. Imagine, can you write a poetry? How will the child be able to write?
Parents often come to me and request that their kids learn to write poetry – Just because their poetry need to be selected and they have to recite at a Recitation competition or get it printed in the school magazine. Even Teachers give assignments and want kids to write poetry on their own! Without even teaching the first steps to build vocabulary and teaching how to write.
Learning to write poetry in two to four sessions is not a miracle. Kidsfreesouls suggest Poetry Soup Ideas and here’s some simple steps:
1. Build Vocabulary – two-three-four-five-six letter words – Be familiar with words and just words
2. Rhyme words – Find all rhyming words and make a list
3. Select topics from Poetry Soup – Write on school, hobby, animals, etc.
4. Say some Tongue Twisters – To get familiar with rhyming words with pleasure when you say “Betty bought some butter, but the butter was bitter, so betty bought some better butter, to make the bitter butter, better.”
5. Let imagination swirl – Write down all your great ideas.
Now, when I talk of Rhymes, words rhyming together give a musical chime of sound and this is the reason why rhyme is so much used. I am fond of rhyming words and I think, Internal rhymes also add music. For eg.
“The Ice was here and the Ice was there,
The Ice was all around;
It cracked and growled, and roared and howled,
Like noises in a sound!”
Vowel and Consonant sound words like long open vowels and soft consonants like l, m, n, v, w, z, etc produce sweet, soft, soothing music. Alliteration is yet another way to add zing to poetry. Repetition of words and phrases in poetry not only emphasize the meaning but often give musical effect to the poem.
For eg. “In ever climbing up a climbing wave” (Tennyson) or “The western tide crept up along the sand, And o’er and o’er the sand, And round and round the sand” (Kingsley)
Another thing I observed while writing Poetry. Poets have three ways of making us see mental pictures as we let our Imagination soar higher to pen down:
1. By Description : Describing a scene, character, real or ideal, in words. Eg. Henry Longfellow’s ‘Rain in Summer’ (Search in Google Here)
2. By Figures of Speech : Such as simple, metaphor and personification. Compare one thing with another.
3. By Picturesque way : A poet can call up for a picturesque image with descriptive words like, eg. “All in a hot and copper sky, The bloody sun, at noon” (Coleridge)
Imagination and Emotions – two things to blend for an appeal. And which other poetry can go best than ‘Daffodils’ by William Wordsworth. It touches the heart as we recite to end up,”…They flash upon that inward eye, Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.”
