Time flies when you’re having fun…

“Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day.” ~William Shakespeare

The conversations in this house have taken a turn…for the worst. (Insert scary music.) When did my children warp into teenagers? Just yesterday, a woman in Guatemala was placing them in my arms; their sweet faces looking up at this strange pale woman with curiosity and wonder. The precious minutes, hours, and days of our initial bonding remain engrained in my mind. Time is a slippery slope....

My greatest blessing in 2012 was…

“His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts.” ~Isaiah 55:9

I had an overabundance of blessings in 2012. This is a house filled with a lot of love, laughter, and understanding. However, if I was forced to choose only one- the greatest of 2012- it would be this: Noah being granted his Keratoconus cross-linking procedure. His last post-surgical follow-up demonstrated no further progression of the disease! Woo-Hoo!! I have an extraordinary son who handled the e...

The unexpected…new experiences in 2013.

Matthew 5:14-16“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

The small tree shoved in the back of the hall closet was fairly sad. Pulling it out, I began the process of bending limbs down to try and fill the holes. Ten tiny...

WISE WORDS

“I’VE LEARNED…”

I’ve learned-

that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them.

I’ve learned-

that no matter how much I care, some people just don’t care back.

I’ve learned-

that it takes years to build up trust, and only seconds to destroy it.

I’ve learned-

that no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I’ve learned-

that it’s notwhatyou have in your life butwhoyou have...

Book Club Speaking Engagement

I thoroughly enjoyed my speaking engagement with the Wedowee Ladies Book Club at the home of Mrs. Valerie Morris on Lake Wedowee. Those fine Southern women had me bearing my heart in no time. They were beyond delightful!

I found it so interesting to hear their thoughts on the characters. I even learned something about Jewels, as one intuitive reader commented that Julia’s dad, John, and her ex-husband, Jackson, were similar in their emotional shortcomings. I hadn’t thought about why Jewels wou...

“Have a blessed day.”

A typical Saturday and Sunday… wake at 2:30AM…bible study…stumble…dogs…hot tea…SportsCenter…stumble…shower/get ready…scrubs…door…car…try to stay awake for my two hour trek to University Hospital…arrive to sixth floor ultrasound…look for miracles…Sunday, I found one.

“There is no such thing as a ‘self-made’ man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our...

Poverty claims the life of another child.

In loving memory of an angel…Mykerlange.

“The deep pain that is felt at the death of every friendly soul

arises from the feeling that there is in every individual something

which is inexpressible, peculiar to him alone, and is, therefore,

absolutely and irretrievably lost.”

~Arthur Schopenhauer

Mykerlange, a beautiful Haitian girl, was beloved by Donna; a dedicated sponsor who had fallen in love with a group of children, far from her home in the United States. Some of you have read the journal entr...

You don’t know me. I know me.

“For the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearance, as though they were realities and are often more influenced by the things that seem than by those that are.” ~Niccolo Machiavelli

I realized last weekend at the hospital that others tend to view me as weak, solely based on my appearance and my tendency to quietly observe. I’m not someone who loves to hear herself talk. I don’t like to be the center of attention. If I’m speaking, I feel that my words have weight. I don’t believe...
