For every Goliath, there is a stone!
Many people are unaware of the amazing story behind the song “It Is Well with My Soul” by Horatio Spafford. When you start to feel the least bit sorry for yourself and your circumstances, remember this man- this story- and feel blessed.
What is the old saying? “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.” Spafford was a Chicago lawyer heavily invested in local real estate. 1871 proved to be his downturn. After the loss of his only son, he was further brought to his knees by the Great C...

What NOT to wear and who NOT to take to the 2013 L.A. Book Festival Awards in Hollywood…
Choose your two favorite dresses and let me know by email (laurievandermark@aol.com) or post your thoughts on FB (https://www.facebook.com/lavandermark...). I have two favorites in mind- please, pick those!
Now that I have the dress situation under control, I need a date! You think Clooney or Cooper?
Bahahahahahahaha, just kidding! I’d talk to Clooney about Darfur all night and Cooper’s eyes are mighty...

“Mad Men”, lost and found, expectations, clueless, love divine, spinach, and a minor catastrophe…welcome to my weekend.

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
If I heard it once, I heard it a dozen times this past weekend. Evidently, my new look, compliments of Jesi Godwin, has men mad. “You look like one of those girls from ‘Mad Men’”. I wouldn’t know. I’ve never watched the show. I finally started responding with, “Don’t expect it every weekend.”...

“I’m sorry.” “Yes, you are.”
-Just a little humor. I’m kidding.
“It is not a gain that guilt should be wholly forgotten. On the contrary, it is loss and perdition. But it is gain to win an inner intensity of heart through a deeper and deeper inner sorrowing over guilt…one can also tell a man’s age in the Good by the intensity of his repentance. There is a battle of despair that struggles- with the consequences. The enemy attacks constantly from behind, and yet the fighter shall continue to advance. When this is so, the re...

I once knew a man…
“Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” ~ Mother Teresa
During a recent trip to Miami, a friend took me for a tour of “The U”. For those who haven’t lived in Miami, where I was born, “The U” refers to the University of Miami. Back in the day, with Vinny Testaverde as quarterback, I was an avid Miami Hurricanes fan. We moved…I moved on to Bama- Roll Tide. However, I still have fond memories of cheering for the Canes and Dolphins with my Florida...

Valentine’s Day: Ideas for the gift challenged guys…you asked for it.
“Hear my soul speak: The very instant that I saw you, did my heart fly to your service.” ~Tempest, Act 3 Scene 1
My guy friends are amazing; though some are less sentimental than others. Not to worry. Some girls are all about the tangible gifts and place less value on the thought behind them. This type of girl is certainly easier to buy for- the one impressed with your job or your bank account. The real terror comes from gals like me who could care less about the zeroes and the prestige. I’ve...

Soul Sunday
This has been a great week. I traveled far out of my comfort zone Wednesday, thanks to photographer extraordinaire Jesi Godwin. Thursday and Friday were spent catching up with old friends and making new connections. Saturday was spectacular. Sunday was soul fulfilling.
Today, a request was made for me to travel to a patient’s room instead of having the patient moved and brought to the department. Upon entering, I found her to be surrounded by the most lovely and caring family. She was battling...
