2013 has reserved the best for the last. I have three amazing shows to attend on the next months. So, i’ve decided to put out (for the very first time) a collection of old, rough, and quick drawings. The sketchbook is called Garage Days, and will be available for purchase (NYCC: $20, FIQ: R$30, Thought Bubble: £15)  in all the following shows:

NYCC – October 10-13th

Once again i’ll be at the Artist Alley (Table F9) along with the great Gustavo Duarte (Taxi, Birds, Monsters and Other Stories). Check out the new sketchbook, original art and some other goodies from Gustavo and I.

I’ll also be attending a couple of DC commitments:

FINAL MATCH: A word or two about the protests in Brazil (and everywhere).

Friends from outside of Brazil, here is the story i did, regarding the protests that are happening here in our country. People is finally taking the streets, claiming NO VIOLENCE, but yes, demanding freedom of speach.

No matter where you are, support this sharing all you can about this, and help us to make it a country we all should be proud of.

A chama reacendeu.

American Vampire: LONG ROAD TO HELL out this week!

It’s hard to explain what is like when a book you have worked for like 5 months finally comes out. The idea to see it done, colored, lettered, printed is really wordless. That’s how I feel about Long Road to Hell.

Since Scott, Mark and I decided to do the monthly AV hiatus, the idea of doing this special was on the making. It was indeed a long road. For a moment I thought i’d never be able to write these almost 60 pages. I probably wouldnt if I didnt had the support of some incredible friends. I’d like to thank them all:

Rafael Grampá, who’s which I had a great talking about writing is the first one. He read my first draft, and his opinions made me rethink a lot of what the story should be. Scott, who (you all might know) is putting a lot of books, and could find some precious time to work the whole thing with me, helped me to suit it all in the amazing universe he has conceived and made it all better. Rogê Antonio, my great assistant, who helped me out with awesome layouts when the time was short and I could count on his help to made the book come out in time,  Dave McCaig for doing the very best color work I have ever seen in comics and putting al ot of heart on it, and definitely more than anyone, Mark Doyle.

The guy not only was a sharp (and though) editor, but incredible helpful and supportive friend over the whole process. He thought me that, indeed, “writing is re-writing”. And believe me, After 5 drafts,  I’ve learned this lesson trough the hard way.

Thank you all, hope you, reader enjoy the ride, as much as we did doing it.

Rafael.

Vertigo announces “The Long Road to Hell”.

The MTV Geek, has just released an interview with me, talking about the American Vampire Special im working on: The Long Road to Hell. Not only special because its a break on the hiatus the main series is in, but also its my debut as a Vertigo writer, along with Scott Snyder.

Below a quick quote on the interview:

“This is my first time writing for Vertigo and it’s a big honor. Once it was decided we would go on hiatus, I approached Mark (our editor) with the idea of doing this special, so the fans could have a ‘taste of blood’ while waiting for the book’s return. He liked the idea and we (Scott Snyder, Mark and I) began talking about it.” (Read the full article clicking here)

The Long Road to Hell is about two young lovers,  newly turned vampires trying to fight the blood thirst inside them, travelling trough the American Heartland. They’ve got a pack of angry vampires on their tails…along with Travis Kidd.

The one-shot special, comes out June 12!

Cheers,

Rafa.

Legends of Dark Knight out this week!

Finally! The story “Adaptation”, written and illustrated by me (in my debut as a DC writer!) is coming out today, digitally trought the site COMIXOLOGY.

Thats a short (and twisted) story, where I could pay a tribute to The Killing Joke, one of the greatest Batman stories ever.

The colors are from my talent American Vampire partner, Dave McCaig,  and I couldn’t be prouder!

Check it out downloading it for only $0,99!

Cheers!

This trip in USA is being a marathon. We had a lot of fun in NY (convention and the extra vacation days we took), and now its time to fly Chicago, where im proudly attending the opening of the AMERICAN VAMPIRE ART EXIBITION, that happens in the ROGUE’S GALLERY.

The opening night will be friday, October 19th, from 7pm-10pm and the art will be there until november 26th.

I will be in attendance, signing copies of AMERICAN VAMPIRE and BATMAN. An exclusive, original 11″x17″ limited edition print will be provided free (for one night only) with the purchase of any book featuring my work.

Wine and beer will be served, so this is a good reason to come, even if you dont like my art. :)

I ♥ NYCC! (schedule updated)

Literally counting days to fly New York.

There is a while I dont go there and I really missed it. The official reason to go, is, of course, NYCC, one of the coolest conventions in USA, where i’ll be proudly sharing an Artist Alley table with my long time friend Gustavo Duarte. As usual we will have some goodies to sell:

Gustavo will have his classic indie books TAXI and BIRDS, and is bringing the brand new graphic novel MONSTROS!. An amazing book it worth to check out.

I’ll have American Vampire Hardcovers volumes 1,2,3 and the just released 4. All written byScott Snyder and illustrated by me and some top talents, such as Jordi Bernet, Sean Murphy and others and limited and signed prints.

Our table number is Z11 and can be found on the Artist Alley. Pass by!

Besides that, I’ll have some activities at the DC booth. Check out my schedule:

Thursday 10/11

8-9pm SIGNING (DCE Booth #1238)

Friday 10/12

1:30-2:30pm PANEL (VERTIGO: A View From the Cutting Edge of Comics – Room 1A23)
