C.J. Duggan's Blog, page 2
December 9, 2016
A cheeky hello
Okay, so I am sneaking a quick 5 minutes to blog which is insane seeing as I am on such a crazy deadline to finish London Bound edits. Still, I am feeling very zen, nay optimistic about how it is all coming together, but that's just me in general lately.
Maybe it's because we are all winding down to a new year? Maybe it's because I put my Christmas tree up before December? But I just have this overwhelming feeling of gratitude that when things get a bit stressful I have an inner tranquility that I have never really experienced before and I find that it is linked to one very good reason.
I have been keeping a gratitude journal.
Five minutes a day, where the first thing I do in the morning is write down (with prompts) what I am grateful for, then the last thing I do before bed is journal what made today so great and what could have made it better and all I can say is WOW! What a completely different mindset it gives you. You know how you finish the day and all you can remember is everything that went wrong or caused you stress. Lots of little amazing things probably happened too, but we don't remember those because the bad stuff is easier to carry around with you.
I will talk about this a bit more at length when I deliver my book and have some free time over Christmas. I am so looking forward not so much by a new rear but just the general on going of new projects, set new goals, learn new things, even make some mistake some doubt, but no matter what I am going to take the time to make sure that I am grateful for the little things.
Can't wait to chat more about this! Off to smash these edits, watch this space!

‘Again Ms Duggan has created a winner. Paradise City was a perfect introduction to the series and characters. I was left needing more and it had so much laugh-out-loud fun. This really did have everything from intrigue to addiction, realism of high school antics, steamy sizzles and fast paced readability. I am certainly hooked and desperately want more of all these characters. I highly recommend this to all new adult readers, fan-bloody-tastic!’ - Turner’s Antics

THE BOYS OF SUMMER
After first shift disasters, rude wealthy tourists, and a taunting ex boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come from working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer, and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love, and heartbreaking chaos.
All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.
It will be a summer she will always remember.
AN ENDLESS SUMMER
With the new threat of putting the Onslow up for sale, Amy reluctantly turns to a local tradesman for help: Sean Murphy, the very same Onslow boy who saved her life all those years ago. With his help and that of some old friends, the task is clear: spend the summer building the hotel back up to its former glory or lose it for good.
In an endless summer, Amy soon realises that sometimes in order to save your future, you have to face your past, even if it’s in the form of a smug, gorgeous Onslow boy.
THAT ONE SUMMER
Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.
Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.

THE SECRET I'VE BEEN KEEPING...

So, I have been vague-booking and talking about a REALLY big secret I have been keeping for months and months and MONTHS.
Speaking of how much I was looking forward to sharing the news with you, and that how in time I would reveal all.
Well, the time has come…
I HAVE A NEW BOOK DEAL!!!
But you knew that already because you totally just read the bold, pink, shouty capitals first didn't you? YEAH you did! Good for you, I have tortured you long enough.
So, YES!
New book deal for a BRAND NEW series, and I am beyond thrilled to have signed a three book, world rights deal with Hachette, Australia. I was so incredibly fortunate to be signed by Hachette for my Paradise series in late 2014, so to be able to work with them again on a new series is extremely exciting and I can't wait to bring these stories to you.
And the best thing about today is that I don't get to reveal just one cover, but all THREE covers AND blurbs for one big EPIC series reveal.
THE HEART OF THE SERIES
The first standalone book in CJ Duggan's HEART OF THE CITY series - a very sassy, super sexy New Adult romance from the internationally bestselling author of the SUMMER and PARADISE series.

'You're breaking up with me!'He was silent.'In Paris.'Eyes dropping.'Under the Eiffel-fucking-Tower!' I screamed.
Twenty-five-year-old Claire Shorten had looked forward to spending a romantic weekend in Paris for as long as she could remember, and now it was here - three blissful days of strolling through cobbled streets arm-in-arm with her beloved, eating copious amounts of baked goods and soaking up the culture through each and every pore of her body. Well, at least, that was how she'd pictured it . . .
Even after her boyfriend dumps her rather unceremoniously in the most romantic place on earth, Claire is determined not to give up on her dream altogether - with or without a boyfriend. She finds herself a job in the kitchen of a small hotel; Michelin-starred it most certainly is not, but somehow Claire makes a place for herself amidst the dirty dishes and the foreign misfits who run the place.
When the restaurant attracts the attention of the enigmatic - if not slightly terrifying - tycoon Louis Delarue, and Claire manages to survive his high-powered business luncheon from hell, she knows that she can survive anything, surely. But all bets are off when Louis makes a game-changing decision: he's coming back for a second course . . .

Sarah Williams is a spirited, independent Aussie who has always dreamed of New York City. So when a job opportunity arises to become an au pair for a successful businessman in the heart of Manhattan, Sarah jumps at the chance to follow her dream.
What she didn't bet on was a beautiful newborn and a distant, abrasive man whose eyes hold a million anguished secrets. Determined to care for his daughter and face the challenges of the impossible Ben Worthington, Sarah was always prepared to follow her heart; she just wasn't prepared to lose it to a complicated man like Ben.

Like so many of her university friends, Kate Brown is London bound, but unlike her friends - who had the chance to enjoy the beer, sights and attractions of the UK - Kate is instead visiting her grandmother (who may or may not be the devil).
Wanting nothing more than to be a normal, independent twenty-something living it up in ol' London town, Kate finds herself a prisoner in her grandmother's Kensington terrace, daydreaming about the holiday that could have been. But when Kate is almost run over by posh, smirking playboy Henry Baker, it leaves her wondering if being out and about is such a good idea after all, especially when she catches herself laughing at his jokes.
One thing Kate knows for sure is that she has to avoid Henry at all costs. But with her balcony facing his, you can pretty much guarantee Kate's London adventure is going to be anything but boring . . .
How beautiful are these covers?
Many thanks to the amazingly talented Keary Taylor and the lovely Hachette team for bringing my vision to life, I simply adore everything about them.

The Things That I Know
Here are some burning questions answered for you.
It's always good to take stock and do some housekeeping for the mind. I guess what I am guilty of is not thinking about some of the finer details that I know, that are locked away inside my head, the things I am yet to share, so I thought I would unload my over packed mind and lay it all out on the table, and in the process hopefully you have some things clarified in a segment I like to call...
THE THINGS THAT I KNOW...
Now bear with because I am just going to be shooting things out of my head like lazer beams, this will be a massive inner mind dump onto the page, no rhyme or reason it's just what pops into me head. So in no particular order.
FOREVER SUMMER PAPERBACKS?
YES! The paperbacks have been formatted and the full cover jackets are currently sitting with my designer. Once the cover is finalised I always like to upload and request for a a proof to be sent out, just so I can check the quality and make sure that I am 100% happy with it before it is widely available for the public. I had hoped to have had these ready sooner, but I made some alterations with the MS and had it reformatted from scratch. Now I am happy with it I can get them finalised. The second they are available I will be doing an announcement and post purchase links on all my social platforms including newsletters, don't worry you will be the first to know. The process is also the same for those wanting the 'The Onslow Boys' and I anticipate that both paperback editions will be ready pretty much at the same time, so look out for the postings.

CAN I PRE-ORDER YOUR BOOKS ON AMAZON?
At this stage no, all my future books are listed as an exclusive pre-order to the iBookstore, my books will be available for purchase on ALL platforms upon release, and once again I will always ensure that announcements and purchase links will be ready the second a book goes live.
CAN I COME SEE YOU AT A BOOK SIGNING?
I decided last year that 2016 was going to be about writing and balance. I really love meeting readers and attending events and I plan to keep on doing them after I take some time to work on my books this year. My office has just been recently renovated so it's been really nice to spend time here, fitting it out and working in my new space has been a real game changer for me. I do look forward to what 2017 will bring with picking up the event baton and doing some singings then.
OFFICE PICS?
I know I keep promising the grand reveal, but it's just not there yet. The last piece in the puzzle is new carpet, which is something I am both looking forward to and dreading. I will have to move all my furniture out again to install, and when I am mid book and on a deadline I just can't have that happen right now. One of the more difficult things was when my office was getting extended was not being unable to use it. Sitting in my lounge room, with my beats on while the TV flickered in my peripheral vision drove me crazy, I hate being away from my space and writing was a real struggle. I won't be doing that again in a hurry, but definitely later in the year. Until then you will definitely see snippets until the grand before and after posting.

THE SUMMER SERIES CAN'T BE THE END???
I get this A LOT and with every question my heart says the same thing. It's not the end. And although I am rather vague and non committal about the details largely because the last thing I want to do is give readers a ball park release date or story line to get excited about. What I do know is there is definitely something in my mind brewing, and it will most likely be for next year. That is all I can say at this stage, but never say never and it is on the back burner of my mind while I work on my other series and releases, but yes!

THE PARADISE SERIES CAN'T BE THE END???
The Paradise Series was optioned as a two book deal contract, with the option of more like with anything. But I strongly feel that the story ended exactly how I wanted it to, and the readers response was so amazing I think I felt that going anywhere else after that might feel forced when it ended on such a high. It was a tough challenge as an author to ride through the backlash of a cliffhanger in Paradise City, something that I most definitely not known for with my writing, so I was really hoping that the response with how the series ended was met well, and it by far exceeded my expectations when the response was so positive. Sometimes knowing when to draw the line is hard, but I think for now it's the best choice.

STANDALONE?
YES! As you might have seen, I recently unveiled the cover to my next WIP 'Beyond Here Lies Nothing' And hold onto your hats because it IS a standalone!! *gasp* And let me tell you I am so happy about it. Writing a standalone book has almost been like a palate cleanser in many ways. Writing a series is a lot of work and the load is heavy dealing with reader expectation book after book. So to be able to do something new and solo feels amazing to me. I can honestly say I haven't felt this giddy about a story since my fledgling days writing The Boys of Summer. Once again I find myself writing in complete anonymity, because I chose to write this book largely in secret and it is exactly what I needed. It really is a passion project, it's also different to anything I have ever written. I am SO excited about these characters, it could even be one of my favourites.

SO WHAT ABOUT THE KISS SERIES?
I am chomping at the bit to tell this story, I know exactly how it is all played out and is so strong in my mind because I have been brainstorming it for years. The release date is tentative at the moment as I have a few things rolling out this year that will determine how that series release will be effected, just know that it is definitely being released and is currently on an exclusive iBooks pre-order.

iBooks Pre-Order: http://apple.co/1S2og0tAdd to Goodreads: http://bit.ly/1R7U5VY
SECRETS?
I know exactly what you mean. I have been posting many vague posts about exciting announcements and things to look forward to (no I am not having a baby or won lotto) But nevertheless, the news is pretty epic, and exciting and I can't say much more than that, with the promise that all will be revealed and it will be worth the agonising wait, believe me I am DYING to tell you all. Ugh, aren't I the worst???

On the dotted line...
WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO CONTACT YOU?
I am most active on any of these platforms (no particular order) And I LOVE getting tagged in posts, it's the best way for me to see things as I don't always get to see everything with the way social media is controlled by the man behind the curtain. So please free to contact me or tag me in a post or review.

BEYOND HERE LIES NOTHINGWhen a big city agent wants to rent the abandoned chapel on the Bowen’s property for an obscene amount of money, it seems like a deal of a lifetime … there’s just one small catch.
Nathaniel Black.
Disgraced, broken-down, whisky-swilling Rock God Nathaniel Black is set to make a comeback, or at least that’s what his long-suffering agent is hoping.
It’s Nathaniel’s last chance for salvation, to lock himself away from the temptations of his wicked life. With no women, no booze, no drugs: only the music. The one thing he didn’t count on was forming a complex, life-changing bond with a reclusive, talented songbird, Sadie Bowen.
Eighteen-year-old Sadie has all of Nathaniel’s vinyl records under her bed and his poster lining the inside of her wardrobe door. And now he was here, in her backyard, eating her food and sharing her bathroom—a dream come true, right? Until Sadie soon realises her teenage idol is the most infuriating, arrogant man-child she has ever met.
Will seclusion lead to destruction? Or will Sadie finally get a chance to learn who the real man is behind the music? One thing is clear, despite every voice inside her head telling her to stay away, she couldn’t.
She couldn’t help it, couldn’t fight it.
Nathaniel Black was about to become her favourite mistake.

So much to tell you...
Ah radio silence, the struggle is real.
While there are a lot of things I am unable to tell you at this stage, here is something I am able to tell you.
I have a new book coming out.
It's New Adult.
It's set in Australia.
It's a stand alone.
And I LOVE IT!
Here's a clue:
There has been varying degree's of falling in and out of love along the way when creating stories. Writing is a hugely personal, creative process that takes an immense amount of mind power. In a lot of ways writers need to have a strong psychological aspect, much like an athlete does to battle their endurance, we need that kind of mental endurance in creating time and time again. Our mid sections might be slightly softer but make no mistake, it takes focus and determination, and much sacrifice. It's a rather exciting acknowledgement to make, and one I think is really important to accept. Writing is an incredible power, world building, creating stories that make you feel - awesome!
So as I set onto book 10 I am so excited to be able to say:
I am completely in love with this story.
It's the same feeling I had when I wrote The Boys of Summer. There was no pressure, no expectation, I just became lost in the story and it literally had me running to my computer to see what happened next. This is the same feeling, its new and exciting and mainly because I have kept it a secret, a bit of a passion project if you will.
Last year saw me complete two much loved series, the SUMMER and the PARADISE series. Tying up those books was incredibly satisfying and felt like an end of a huge era of my life. The Summer series was where it all began for me, a set of characters that helped me build my brand and give me a voice. They are quintessentially Australian, but more than that they are quintessentially CJ. The Paradise series was by far the most exciting aspect of my career, my foray into traditional publishing with Hachette, Australia. It took my writing to a whole new level and gave me a platform to develop a whole new set of characters. I LOVE this series, and I loved working with Hachette, they just got my vision, respected my branding and what eventually produced from our collaboration was the perfect bridge series from what I had done independently.
It's always exciting (nerve wracking) to enter new territory from a long running series, and the Paradise series was the perfect stepping stone, just like I know this book will be.
It links in with that old world feeling of complete excitement of falling in love with a story, combined with a new found confidence in publishing, the kind I didn't have way back in the day of writing TBoS.
And while I have been in the shadows working like a mad scientist on my new book, I promise there will be an end to all my vague book posts of whats to come. So far, 2016 has been an incredibly surreal start, one that takes a lot of unpacking and repacking to do in my own mind.
So here are the things I know for sure:
a) A new book is coming, a cover reveal and blurb unveiling will be happening in the coming weeks.
b) An exciting announcement is happening very soon
c) There is another secret project, one that kind of blows my mind but also will learn more later in the year.
d) The Kiss Series release is TBA due to points b) and c) but watch this space for when they will be rolling out.
e) Paperbacks for Onslow Boy Boxed Set and Forever Summer are in development. Yay!!
f) Oh, and the new office is coming along swimmingly. There are still some much needed additions, umm like carpet! But I am super excited to share more pics about the grand reveal. I kind of feel there needs to be ribbon and scissors involved, it's been such an epic change.
And while this all seems incredibly vague still let it be known I don't actively enjoy torturing you all (okay maybe a little) but be rest assured sitting on secrets KILLS me, but then I think of all the awesome that is still yet to unfold and how much I know you are going to love each development.
It's going to be so bitter-sweet, I promise. xo

The Story So Far
A bit of reflection puts all the hard work into perspective. On the days the words don't come so easy I'll remind myself to look how far I've come. #books #hachetteaus #newadult #authorlife #backcatalogue #newseries2016 #aussiena #proud #hardwork #coverlove #kearytaylor

HELLO 2016! (And what books to expect.)
Don't look at the calendar!
Okay, you just totally looked didn't you?
I know it's February and I have been somewhat missing in action, but I'm not gonna lie it has been a lovely break over January after what was a really crazy-busy ending to 2015. I even managed to enjoy some sunlight over an Aussie Summer, which is very rare for me as I am always deep in the cave at this time of year.
With the Onslow Boys Boxed Set releasing in October, Paradise Road in November and Forever Summer in December I didn't exactly get a chance to kiss 2015 goodbye with an EPIC post highlighting the year that was. Instead I was very much just taking a breath after solid months of prepping, editing, promoting and many 4am bed times.
Looking back on it all now I think that really was a schedule destined for burnout, but I think the best kind of way to replensih the soul is by taking the time post releases to breakaway from social media and spend time with the family. And I feel good, and further more excited about what 2016 will bring. There is just something about this year coming that feels different, and I know I have spoken to many author friends that share that sentiment. But then I also wonder, have I hyped this year up too much? Built it up on such a pedestal that by the stroke of midnight January 1st, 2016 that something truly magical was going to happen. Nope, no unicorns farting rainbows to be seen. Unfortunately.
I'm not ruling out a very belated, how awesome my 2015 was post, but now as I sit down in my office all I can do is think about what's ahead.
I am excited to say that my NEW office is about 95% complete, only carpet awaits and once that happens and everything is in it's place I will do a grand reveal with before and after pics to show you my beautiful new space. It was the one investment that I am the most excited about. I spend so much time in this room and to be able to have it set out in a way that will make producing my work easier will be a definite game changer.
Now's the time you want books, series, release dates. You want it all locked in and cemented and you want it yesterday.
Ummm, well…
Here's the thing.
There is so much happening in the wings of Camp Duggan. A lot of variables that are not in my control at this time and if you are like me and patience is not your thang, than I totally get that, I really do. I guess this is another reason for the radio silence, it really is so much easier to be on the down-low when there is nothing to announce…YET!
What I can say is that there will be TWO new series unfolding in 2016. This year will be a 4-5 book release year so you are going to get plenty of swoon and smexy times.
You are getting something very new, something I have never written before. This is what makes me excited for 2016.
As much as it pains be to be unable to reveal anything at this stage, be assured that there will be some grand announcements in the coming weeks and that I am BACK! Back to the grinding stone, back to all things bookish.
So if you don't want to miss out on any huge announcements, you can subscribe to my newsletter HERE!
Behind the coloured cards are super secret projects, can't wait to share more.
Oh. So. Soon.
