Inheritance Books – Donna Douglas

Today I have the lovely Donna Douglas telling me about her Inheritance Books.

Hi Donna, welcome to my blog. Tell me a bit about yourself:

Donna Douglas

Hello, my name’s Donna Douglas I’m the author of The Nightingale Girls, the first in a series of stories set in an East End hospital during the 1930s. I was born and brought up in south London, but 20 years ago I moved with my husband, daughter and cat up to the beautiful city of York (quite a departure for someone who’d rarely ventured north of...

Inheritance Books; Jane Lovering

Today, Jane Lovering, winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year award this year, tells us about her Inheritance Books.

Hello Jane. Welcome to my blog. Tell me a bit about yourself.

I grew up in Exeter, then moved to North Yorkshire, where I, sadly, continue to grow outwards, surrounded by pets of most species and a lot of children. Which are mine, it’s not like I collect them or anything… I write romantic comedies for Choc Lit, which are described as ‘quirky’, which I think is just a polite way...

Inheritance Books: Carrie Lynn Barker

This a new feature on my blog where guest authors and readers will tell me about the books they love. The idea is based on Inheritance Tracks from Saturday Live on Radio 4. Today, I’m talking to my fellow Uncial author, Carrie Lynn Barker.

Hello Carrie. Welcome to my blog. Tell me a bit about yourself.

I love to write and I’ve been doing it all my life. The first novel I read was Black Beauty. I was five. My first novel was published in 2010. My series that started with Revelations will reach t...

Goodreads Book Review: Vampire State of Mind by Jane Lovering

I haven’t read a vampire book since I tried (and failed) to read Twilight books, but I liked the other Jane Lovering books I’ve read so I downloaded the sample chapters. I zipped through them and immediately downloaded the full book (I LOVE the instant gratification of Kindle!).

Vampire State of Mind deals with Vampires, Humans and humanity. It’s dark and, in places, very funny. The world created is detailed and believable; Buffy meets Thursday Next in the best possible way. The Dead Run (a ra...

A guest post for the Romaniacs – Bunsen burners, chocolate and silly names

Today I’m visiting the Romaniacs blog. They were kind enough to ask me about the conflict betweenthe scientific and creative sides of the mind. They also asked me about chocolate, which is an important part of my life!http://tinyurl.com/cnx8f96

Inheritance Books – like Desert Island Discs, but for books

I was going to post this at the weekend, but since it’s Booklover’s day, I thought I’d post it early.

In September I will be starting a series of posts called Inheritance Books, where people tell me which book they’ve ‘inherited’ from the generation above and which book they would leave to later generations. It’s open to anyone who has a beloved book (or two) that they want to talk about. BBC Radio 4 listener’s might spot that it’s based on the Inheritance Tracks feature on Saturday Live.

This...

Goodreads Book Review: The Runaway Actress by Victoria Connelly

The Runaway Actress

The Runaway Actress by Victoria Connelly

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Connie Gordon gets sick of the pressures of Hollywood stardom and runs away to her mother’s home town and HQ of her fan club – a remote village in Scotland. Maggie runs the Connie Gordon fan club as well as the only shop in the village. There’s a playwright called Alastair who has also run away from London to live in a house in the middle of the hills.

Although there are two love stories in the book, the real story was about Maggie...

Romantic Novelists’ Association conference 2012 (Penrith)

I spent last weekend at the Romantic Novelists’ Association annual conference in Penrith. It was the first time I’d been to a full conference (I’d been before for the day only). I had a wonderful time being a writing geek and discussing all sorts of random things relating to writing and romance. I feel like I’ve been talking and laughing for 72 hours straight.

We discussed heroines, heroes, Joss Whedon, Terry Pratchett, the perfect dinner date, the man with universal appeal (doesn’t exist), th...

Film review: Snow White and the Huntsman

Snow White and the Huntsman

I haven’t written a movie review since I was at student and wrote reviews for @DailyInfoOxford. In a rare trip to the cinema, I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman last week. It bothered me so much that I thought I’d write something up. So, anyway, my take on the film was… basically… Huh?

Visually, the film in stunning. The special effects are wonderful. Kristen Stewart (the pallid girl from Twilight) does a good job of being a pallid princess. Charlize Theron is...

Goodreads Book Review: Ten Years On by Alice Peterson

Ten Years On by Alice Peterson

I picked this book up because of a Twitter conversation I had with@Alicepeterson1. (Does Twitter sell books? Yes, but not in any direct way). I read the sample chapter and it looked interesting, so I downloaded it.

This book is more about bereavement and grief than romance. Becca’s husband Olly dies suddenly, leaving her alone and pregnant with their first child. Becca must learn to cope with her loss while adjusting to the fact that she’s going to be a mother. Fo...
