Hello Lovelies, GUILT’S PLEASURE, the second story originally slated for the Dark Submissions anthology, is now available for purchase. GUILT’S PLEASURE is for those of you who like your fantasy stories with a little steam and a dash of raunchy. I hope you enjoy it. Each installment in this series is a standalone story with an HEA or HFN. No cliffhangers in sight. For your listening pleasure, check out the official playlist for this series (linked below). Each song reminds me of a character or scene from a book within the series. Specifically for Guilt’s Pleasure, FKA Twigs’ Papi Pacify reminds me of Morgan’s need for Dax to punish her. Mea Culpa: Some Bad News and Some Good News

Dear Readers, Yes, I’m starting out formal here, because what I’m about to say deserves some formality. I’ll start by ripping off the band-aid…Dark Submissions will not be released tomorrow as scheduled. Yup, if you care to know why please read on. Either way please accept my sincerest apologies. I examined every option available to me to make sure the book released on time, but unfortunately, I had no choice but to postpone it. Some people reading this may think, Laurel, “Don’t be such a drama queen.” If I’m coming across as dramatic, it is because I take my writing seriously and the time and money readers invest in my stories very seriously. So for those of you interested, here is the backstory. The book, and anthology I’m very proud of by the way, was originally scheduled to release on October 31st. The release date got pushed back due to … Continue reading

PROMO POST: Brooklyn’s Song by Sydney Arrison

Hello All, Please welcome author SYDNEY ARRISON to the blog today. I first learned of Sydney, last year after someone recommend I read “My Heart in Seoul“. The story was beautifully written and poignant, which I’ve come to realize, is Ms. Harrison’s style in a nutshell. Sydney has a new release out titled BROOKLYN’S SONG, that I’m eager to read. The book features an Korean American hero and African American heroine, which is a rare combination to come by in romance, so I’m excited to get started. Oh and did I mention the hero is a cop? Win! BROOKLYN’S SONG Available Now Amazon US | UK | CA BLURB: “Brooklyn Pierce has just witnessed an attempted assassination, and Detective Song Kai and his partner, Detective Mattice Blake, are on the case. But as the story progresses, sparks begin to develop between Brooklyn and Song, providing the reader with a storyline … Continue reading

COVER REVEAL: Dark Submissions #fantasy #paranormal #romance

Hi All, Halloween is fast approaching and I’m excited to have my first dark fantasy anthology of short stories released. Titled DARK SUBMISSIONS, the anthology contains three erotic stories that take place in the Underworld. As I mentioned a few weeks back, these stories were inspired by the the darker lore of Halloween and the Underworld. Whooowhee!  I had fun with it! For those of you who’ve read my very first book, Negotiating Skills, you know how much I love tension when it comes to romance. Well, I strove for the same thing with these stories, but upped the sexual scenes. They were so much fun to write! I joked the other day with an author friend online, that readers would either reach for their vibrators or call their priests after reading these scenes She insisted that be the tagline, and I’m being to think she might be right. I can’t … Continue reading

Dark Erotic Fantasy: Halloween Romance Inspirations

Pinterest and I have a love hate relationship. I love the multitude of images that provide boundless inspiration, but hate the endless hours I seem to lose when falling down that rabbit hole of images. However, I can’t deny that the time I’ve lost on the site has been well spent. A few months ago I was searching for inspiration for a blog tour I was helping to organize for Halloween, and came across the image to your left.  The image got me thinking about how often within romance, dark erotic fantasy is depicted within modern or contemporary time frames and ideas. Whips, chains, doms/subs and a billionaire thrown in for good measure. There is nothing wrong with this, but lately, I tend to lean more towards paranormal fantasy. There is something about sexual fantasy entwined within the realm of the supernatural that fascinates me. During the Halloween season, many … Continue reading

Sunday Recipe: Guava Chiffon Pie

Living in South Florida has some serious perks. Aside from the sun, beaches and amazing weather, tropical fruits are major players in this region. Mangos, coconut, plantains and passion fruit can be found as key ingredients to meals at almost every restaurant. My family is from the Caribbean, and I grew up with a very fruit centric diet. If if can be peeled or pitted, it can be purred, sauteed or baked. One of the most popular fruits down here, and my least favorite is gauva. That last line would normally be considered blasphemy in Florida. Oranges are the state fruit, but really in South Florida, guavas are considered the wronged first runner up. The sweet pink fruit can be found in everything from pastries to barbecue sauce. Unfortunately, the thing that makes it so popular is the thing that makes me dislike it. Gauva is SWEET. I mean super … Continue reading

Sunday Recipe: Sausage Galette

I have a lot of guilty pleasures. One of them being DIY projects, another being cooking. Mainly baking. I love any recipe that allows me to move away from the stove top and bake a dish instead. I feel like I’ve somehow cheated the cooking gods by avoiding standing over a hot stove and reading a book while something bakes instead. It can’t always be done and sometimes I make exceptions. One of them being savory galetttes. If you’ve never had a galette, stop what you’re doing right now and get one right now. It will change your life. Just learning to make the dough will add 1000+ points to your cooking score. A galette can best be described as France’s version of a rustic pizza. The dough is flaky and delicious and the fillings can be either sweet or savory. As fall approaches I’ve got variations of this tasty … Continue reading

Is Originality Gone from Romance?

I overheard a conversation the other day while waiting in line at the grocery story. “Vampires are so overrated,” someone said. I ducked my chin down to my chest and hid a grin. The person speaking obviously hadn’t checked out the the romance section in any bookstore for a while. In some respects the person’s comment was correct. Vampires as we knew them 5 to 10 years ago are indeed over-rated. Mainly because they’ve been written to exhaustion. However, that shouldn’t take away from the skills of the authors who made them popular. In fact, their popularity is a testament to how well those stories were woven. Stating something is “overrated” or “over-used” is just another way of claiming there’s a lack of perceived originality. There’s an old adage that states there are no new stories, only new ways to tell them. Sir author Thomas Quiller-Couch (that’s a mouth full), … Continue reading
