Musical Theatre Monday – Amy Spalding on Songs for a New World
Thanks, as always, to all of my amazing contributors. When I started this blog series, I was excited to share with you (“you” = “the internet”) different voices expressing love/excitement/etc. for musical theatre. I hoped by the time my book came out (still so many months away!) I could translate some of this love for musicals. But honestly I had no idea this would be so much fun for me in a super selfish way. Curating this series has been, no joke, a joy.
And let’s be honest: it’s been great...

Musical Theatre Monday – Scott Singer on Damn Yankees
Hello and welcome to another Musical Theatre Monday! Are you psyched? Guys, I am, because pun-loving Scott Singer is here. Take it away, Scott, or whatever the punny version of that command would be.
SCOTT SINGER: Although the landscape is quickly changing these days, I still feel that most people have a little shock when they learn that I, as a member of the American white, hetero, male privilegocracy, enjoy musical theater. The Wicked soundtrack is on my playlist; I watch the Tony Awards; I...

Musical Theatre Monday – Brock Wilbur on [title of show]
Musical Theatre Monday is here yet again. Like clockwork. Beautifully choreographed clockwork! On a super sincere note, thank you so much to all my contributors. I literally thought this series would be all about me coordinating it and hopefully readers enjoying the pieces. But I’ve loved curating it and seeing what a bunch of talented people have to say. But, really. Enough from me. This week we have the multi-talented great-on-Twitter super-cool-dude Brock Wilbur. And I am thrilled!
BROCK WI...

Pre-Publishing Steps I Didn’t Know About
By the time most writers get a book deal, they know the gist of it. Right? Contract, Publishers Weekly announcement, editorial letter, hard work, panic attacks, sudden new-found addiction to Cheez-It products, cover reveal, ARCs, release day. I was prepared for all of that. Sure! But here are some steps that were surprising to me.
No one cares anymore. Look, I’m all up in the inner workings of the publishing world now. Well, at least as the world pertains to me. But the rest of your people (“y...

Musical Theatre Monday – Sarah Skilton on Hollis Resnik
Happy Musical Theatre Monday! Are you celebrating it as a national holiday yet? To be honest, my advice is to live every day like it’s Musical Theatre Monday. Why not put a song in your heart and a jaunty little jazz square in your soul? (THIS IS A RHETORICAL QUESTION BUT ALSO THERE IS NO GOOD REASON NOT TO.) Today we welcome beloved friend of the blog Sarah Skilton!
SARAH SKILTON: Like all good cowards, I’m posting something weird and fanatical on the Internet years after the fact, instead of...
