Hello, Cocky!
I like cockatoos.
Sure, they screech, bite, and are notorious for damaging woodwork on buildings. Yet, in their natural state, they seem to me to be lovable clowns: and masters of all they survey.
Recently, Ron and I have watched a most diligent, big white, sulphur-crested bird, gnawing away at the base of huge dead branch of a (very) live gum tree. Day after day, we see him: creating endless piles http://margaretlynettesharp.wordpress...

It's Published: 'Encore'!
It’s with great pleasure that I announce the publication of my seventh title: ‘Encore’: a collection of vignettes and Short Stories.
Many months in the pipeline, it has finally emerged: a brand new ‘baby’, hopefully full of promise.
As its name suggests, ‘Encore’ is a celebration of what has come before it: uplifting stories of love, romance, and life. Certainly, within its pages there are echoes of its stablemates, both in terms of themes and diversity of characters. In common with all the other volumes, it’s edited by my husband, the

Written following ’25 Stories of Life and Love in Australia’ and ‘A Taste of Life and Love in Australia’, this volume continues in a similar fashion, with twenty-eight engaging tales, overwhelmingly with romantic themes.

Is it Nessie?
Today, I sat on a park-bench, overlooking a local river-baths: admiring the scenery. Everywhere seemed so calm, so peaceful. The effects of the recent heavy rain had kept everyone: and, it seemed, everything: out of the water.
Suddenly I spotted it: a small, intriguing head atop a long, lithe neck: steadily moving in the water. With no suggestion of a body, it was just an indistinct head and elegant, supple neck. Spellbinding!
Thoughts of Nessie flooded my brain! In the thirty-odd years I’d been a regular visitor, I’d never before spotted http://margaretlynettesharp.wordpress...

Getting There....
There’s nothing like reaching a goal to put a smile on one’s face.
Yesterday, I finished the first revision of my soon-to-be published book: and, as each milestone is reached, a sense of intense satisfaction overtakes me.
Doubtless, many activities in countless fields of endeavour are capable of producing such good feelings. Be it literature, music, art, sport or anything else: what beats reaching the goal, and being happy with the result?
I have dabbled in many things: in fact, all of the above: but somehow writing seems to capture my greatest sense of purpose and meaning. For me, nothing beats the glow of delight in holding a brand new title in my hands.
Part of the pleasure in this lies in the fact that it’s the end product of collaboration between myself and Ron, my husband. His role as editor and cover designer are vital to the quality of finished project: and, with customary talent, he performs these tasks admirably.
The title is still top secret: but, hopefully by February, all will be revealed.
Watch this space.

Review: 47 Unlikely Friendships

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
'Unlikely Friendships' is a collection of tales of the relationships: some very short-term, other quite long: that developed between members of different species. Dogs, snakes, monkeys, birds, fish: you name it: there's likely a story featuring it.
The photographs are charming: some astonishingly so. They form an integral part of the book, and are a good argument for the superiority of 'tree' books over e-books. Being printed on paper adds to their attractiveness.
The book is well-written, but I feel it lacks the degree of engagement that the animal stories of James Herriot so uniformly carry. Perhaps this is partly because the tales are so very short and matter-of-fact. I'm also a little worried by the brown printing which is a little on the light side to make for easy reading.
Nevertheless, this title is still deserving of a high recommendation and I am happy to provide it.
