Surrendering to Us is LIVE! (sort of)

*rings the klaxon* Surrendering to Us is now available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and for pre-order on Kobo (it will be officially available on the 9th) and you can also order it in paperback on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I'm STILL waiting for it to go live on iTunes. For some reason, they're dragging their feet. I submitted it a while ago, but I think they're backed up because of the holidays. Anywho, an angry email might need to happen, because this is getting ridiculous.
*UPDATE: You can now preorder Surrendering to Us for iTunes HERE!*

Look back and thinking ahead...
Well, I'm reflecting on 2013. It seems hard to believe that it's over, because I still catch myself writing 2012 sometimes. In February, I'll be celebrating two years of publishing. Um, WUT. Yeah, I know. SO MUCH has happened in those two years that if you would have told me about it back then, I would have laughed in your face.
Yeah, something like that.
I published SIX books (not counting the re-release of My Favorite Mistake) this year. As of February next year, I will have TWELVE books out. That is 50 shades of cray (those of you who watch Awkward will understand).
I learned a few things this year…1. Calm the f*ck down. Seriously, I need to chillax. I put SO MUCH pressure on myself to write more, market more, be a crazy non-sleeping writing robot. I need to give myself breaks when I need them because I am NOT a robot. Contrary to some rumors. I also need to ask for help when I need it and feel safe trusting other people with some of the tasks that I don't need to waste my time on when I could be writing. I also started talking better care of my body, and that's definitely something I want to continue in the next year.2. Jealousy is natural, but don't let it consume your life. Hard to believe, but I sometimes get jealous of other people. Authors, mostly. I have to stop comparing myself to others, and start working on being a better ME.3. A day that isn't spent writing isn't a day wasted. I need to have interests outside of writing, and one of those should be reading. I think of reading like taking water and filling up a well. The more water, the better. I read the fewest number of books in 2013 than I have in YEARS, and that's not a good thing. I need to take time to read and fill up my mental well.4. No matter what you do, you can't predict or "plan" a bestseller. They just happen. Even if you do the EXACT same things you did with another release, some books catch on and some don't. Not everything you write will do well, even after you have a few bestsellers under your belt. There are no guarantees.5. Take risks and trust your gut. If there is a story that absolutely consumes you and makes you feel like you're in love, you need to write it, even if it screws with your publishing schedule. I've had two books that felt like that and they are both my best sellers.
So what am I looking forward to in 2014?
Reading more. Very simple.
I want to try out some new genres. Right now I have an upper YA contemporary that I'm working on that's completely different from anything I've written. It's dual POV, and the characters stories don't actually intertwine for quite a while. The other thing I'm working on is a sci fi that is (supposed to be) a loose retelling of The Little Mermaid, without the actual mermaids. I thought the story was going one way, I had it all planned out, and then today I had a breakthrough, and now I have to rewrite the damn thing. But I know that if I try to force the story to be something that it's not, it will suck. Major.
TRAVELING! You can click on my Events/Appearances tab to learn more. I've never travelled this much in my life, and I'm scared, and worried, and freaking out, but I know that this is an opportunity that I can't pass up. To get to do what I love and get to see the world while doing it? BEST. JOB. EVER. Next year will also mark my first trip outside of the United States, which means I need a passport, huh?
Here are the books that I am planning to write/release in 2014 (as usual, this is SUBJECT TO CHANGE):
Surrendering to Us, January 9, 2014My Sweetest Escape, January 28, 2014Will and Audrey's book (Fall and Rise, book three) March/April 2014Silence (Whisper trilogy, book three), May/June 2014Dark Surrendering, June/July 2014
Those are the books I have dates, or at least rough dates for. These books don't have dates yet, but I will update:
Listen (Whisper trilogy, book three)Trish and Max's book (Fall and Rise, book four)YA ContemporaryNA Sci FiSecret Novella
That looks like a lot and it is. I might not be able to handle it, but I'm going to try. I'm planning on doing a lot of writing on the go, and in hotel rooms.
And now because I've written too much about me, here's a Benedict Cumberbatch gif…
Mmmmm… Let's have another, shall we?

Yeah, something like that.

Surrendering to Us release date sadness...
UGH. I've been putting off this post, but I'm sorry to say that the Surrendering to Us release date of January 2nd isn't going to happen. This is partially due to the fact that most of the sites I use to upload it are down during the holidays so the book wouldn't be on sale for the 2nd. BUT, I'm only pushing the date back ONE week, and if things go well, I might upload a few days early, so it SHOULD be available before the 9th of January. I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED, I SWEAR.
To make up for the fact that the book is getting pushed back a week, I'll give away 10 ecopies :) How's that?
Just comment on this post with your plans for New Year's Eve and I'll pick the winners from the comments. Contest is international and ends on January 9th. I'll also be posting another release day giveaway as well, and you'll DEFINITELY want to enter that.

Surrendering to Us cover reveal!!!!
Are you ready? No, seriously, ARE YOU READY?!
HERE IT IS!!!!!!!
*COMING JANUARY 2, 2014*
They're finally together. But the Universe seems intent on tearing them apart…
Rory Clarke might not be Lucah Blythe's boss anymore, but that doesn't mean they can sneak off to the boardroom for hot sex whenever they want. Keeping their hands off each other in the workplace is harder than they could have imagined, and that's not the only obstacle they have to deal with. Between Lucah's troublesome brother Ryder, and Rory's bff Sloane's inability to understand locked doors, they're drowning in drama.
But it's only about to get a lot worse when a blast from Lucah's past surfaces, and chaos at Clarke Enterprises threatens to take away everything Rory has worked so hard for. Can the couple weather the storm and surrender to each other, or will the challenges of staying together destroy their relationship for good?

Some things about some things...
I feel like I need to do a little update as I've been neglecting this blog. You might have noticed I changed up the theme and went with something brighter. I'm also hoping to actually hire someone to do a professional design at some point when my head doesn't feel like it's going to explode.
First, I've updated my list of events. I am traveling A LOT next year, including internationally to Australia! I've never been out of the United States, so this is a BIG DEAL for me. If you don't see a location near you, don't worry, I will be adding more events as we get closer to next year.
Second, did you know that the sequel to Sweet Surrendering, Surrendering to Us is coming out on January 2? I KNOW, RIGHT?! You have less than a month to wait before you can find out what's next for Miss Clarke and Mr. Blaine (*cough*). I'll probably be starting to do some Teaser Tuesdays, so make sure you watch my Twitter and Facebook for those. Like with Sweet Surrendering, the book will be on sale for 99 cents for a limited time when it is first released. Because I looooovvvvveeeeee you.
Third, I'm still working on getting a bunch of giveaway prizes mailed out to winners. I know I am not alone in sucking at going to the post office. It is a LOT of work to mail this stuff out, people. I wish I had an assistant, but I don't, which means for now you'll have to wait for me to get my act together.
Fourth, I am in the possession of several signed books that I am going to be giving away, as well as some other cool prizes :) One of the books is a signed edition of Walking Disaster. You KNOW you want that.
Fifth… I'm finally watching Roswell, on the advice of Magan Vernon, my Twitter Wife (if you don't know what I'm talking about, just check out my twitter feed). She had mentioned the show back when she was reading Nocturnal and I couldn't understand why, because I've never seen it. But lo and behold, I watched the first episode and there was the scene when Peter tells Ava what he is, and she makes a list of questions. Only it was between Max and Liz and he's an alien and not a vampire angel. Still, it was pretty crazy.
Sixth, I'm reading Avoiding Commitment by K. A. Linde and it's AWESOME. I've met her in person and she's just about the most delightful, bubbly person EVER. Just to warn you, this book is a total roller coaster. I'm nearing the end, and I have no idea what's going to happen. I also read Cinder by Marissa Meyer and THAT was fantastic as well. Next I think I'll actually finish Beautiful Disaster and then follow up with Walking Disaster. If you're reading anything super awesome, let me know in the comments. I take recommendations VERY seriously.
Seventh, well this is my lucky number. Oh, here's a gif…

That time when I got some INSANE news...
So I've been remiss on posting about all of the nutso insanity that's happened in the past month. I released Sweet Surrendering, my very first full Adult Contemporary Romance into the world. The story hit me like a ton of bricks, and I didn't even have time to book my cover designer to do a cover for me, so I did one myself. Rory and Lucas' story unfolded so quickly in my mind that it was one of those books where my fingers couldn't type fast enough to follow what my mind was thinking. I was IN LOVE with their story. And then I let it loose on the world, crossed my fingers and hoped and prayed and wished that other people (even if it was just a few of them) would like it.And then something CRAZY happened. The book started selling and climbing the charts, making it all the way to #8 in the entire Kindle store, and it's still in the top 100 right now. I was getting Twitter and Facebook messages and the response was so overwhelming, I couldn't believe it. I kept expecting it to suddenly stop selling and for that to be it, but my expectations were smashed. I made the USA Today Bestseller List, which was fabulous, and then I found out I made the New York Times list. Let me paint a little picture for you.I was going over to my friend Meridith's house for dinner. We do this weekly, with a few of our friends. She cooks, and we eat. It's a pretty awesome situation. I'd just pulled into her driveway, and she wasn't there yet, so I was just sitting in the car. I pulled out my phone to text her and saw that I had an email. It was from my agent, informing me I'd made #16 on the ebook list and #21 on the combined ebook and paperback list. I screamed SO LOUD, I'm pretty sure Meridith's neighbors heard me. I just sat there, screaming and throwing a fit in my car, and there was NO ONE to celebrate with. And then she showed up and as soon as she got out of the car I told her, which led to a screaming hug with lots of jumping up and down. It was pretty freaking awesome.Making the list is GREAT and very exciting, but you know what I'm MORE excited about? That others love Rory and Lucas as much as I do. THAT means the world to me.Lots of people have been asking me about what will happen next in the series, and I WILL confirm that there is a follow-up book called Dark Surrendering, which is Sloane and Ryder's story. BUT, I will have an announcement about any other books VERY soon. So get your Post It notes ready people...

$100 Amazon Gift Card THANK YOU Giveaway!
So. A lot of things have happened in a week. Last Tuesday I uploaded Sweet Surrendering. I was nervous and excited and dying to know what people thought of my first adult contemporary romance. So I waited.
And then something INSANE happened. My rank started jumping. The book started selling. I'm not going to get into numbers, but it got to #30 on Barnes and Noble and ALL the way to #9 on Amazon, and is currently sitting at #11.
I've been doing this for a week:
And this:
I made a little promise that IF the book got to the top 10, then I would do a giveaway for a $100 Amazon gift card to thank everyone who's been so supportive. I NEVER thought it would happen, but I'm true to my word, and it DID. AND IT'S ALL THANKS TO YOU. SO. All you have to do is comment on this blog with what your favorite book has been this year and that's it! Contest is international :)
