On Cliques and Cabals

Lately there has been a lot of talk about the "YA Mafia."

Now, on one hand, this is hilarious, because, come on...the idea of a
bunch of YA authors sitting around like a scene out of Goodfellas is pure gold.

On the other hand, the underlying conversation is troubling.  And the underlying conversation seems to be this:

1.  knowing the right people can help your career.

2.  ticking off the wrong people will hurt your career.

(Also, a lot of people are behaving very badly, but I won't address...

I have a last minute"appearance" I'd like to tell you about.

Chat wrap-up

Thank you to everyone who came out to last night's chat with the MundieMoms!  It was a lot of fun.  I'm especially grateful to the MundieMoms for hosting it and making it all possible.

Now I know that not everyone was able to attend the actual chat last night, but don't worry.  The entire chat transcript is available right here.  Just click, follow that link, and replay the entire chat when you're ready.

I'm not sure how long it will be up, so don't put it off too long, but it's up now and...

It's LIVE CHAT day!

Hi everybody!  It's here!  Live chat day is here!

Now, since we took down the "no spoilers" header I've noticed a lot of comments (and yes, I do read the comments) asking whether or not we could have another live chat or post where you ask questions and I answer them.

The answer is yes!  And no.

No, because I don't have time right now to do a big Q&A here like I think you guys are asking.

But YES because tonight--yes, tonight!--we're having a live chat courtesy of the MundieMoms!

As many of you...

5 Random observations from Allyville

1.  If you want to know what it's like to live and work as a novelist, you should watch the first act of Romancing the Stone, because it's mostly just hanging around your house, talking to people who aren't there, blowing your nose on Post-its.

2.  The weather is insane.  I mean, I know around here it's known for being kind of crazy, but in the past week we've had almost a 100 degree temperature swing.  Do I need Uggs or flip-flops?  Really, it's anybody's guess.

3.  Panera Bread has changed...

Spoilers

Hey everyone!

I know you've all been looking at the "Spoiler-Free Zone" announcement for a long time now, and I thank you all for being so patient and respectful of all the readers around the world who have't had a chance to read GG4 yet.

But I think the time has come to remove the ban on spoilers.  Now, I hope that everyone will continue to be gracious and courteous and be careful with spoilers.  Also, I hope people who haven't read all of the books will be careful and accept that spoilers c...

Late Valentine's Day Present

Happy (late) Valentine's Day, everyone!

Will YOU be my Valentine?  I sure hope so.  And, if not, maybe this Uncommon Criminals min-excerpt can tempt you.

UNCOMMON CRIMINALS: a Heist Society novel

The windows of the brownstone were black, and the street was empty.  There were no cars, no nannies pushing strollers or pedestrians jogging home.  It felt to Kat as if she and Hale were the only two people in New York City.  They could steal anything they wanted.

But I don't steal anymore, Kat told...

Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday, everyone!  I hope you all had a great week.  I was trying to think about what *I* did last week and came up with a great big blank.  Really, I know I wasn't unconscious last week, but it truly feels that way.  I shall try to do better this week, I swear.

I wanted to make you all aware of a few things.

1. on February 22nd I will be doing a LIVE CHAT with the awesome folks at MundieMoms.com at 9:00 p.m. Eastern/ 8:00 Central.  As many of you know, the Mundie Moms originated as a...
