Some updates

Hey Everybody!

Sorry if the blog's been sort of quiet. I'm on deadline and we just did an overhaul of the server which has resulted in some behind-the-scenes complications (including why no comments have been approved in several days--there are kinks.  And yes, that's the technical term I'm going with.)

But there are a few things I wanted to remind everyone about in the meantime...

1.  NEXT WEEK I will be in Los Angeles, CA attending the RT Booklover's Convention.  (I know many of you have...

Big blog of random

--I walked four miles tonight.  Why do I always forget that the first two miles are the HARD miles?  The last two are all endorphins and calorie burning.  So why do I stop at two usually?  Why?  Why?  Why?

--I need new glasses.  This is both exciting and terrifying.  Fortunately, I have given glasses proxy to Jennifer Lynn Barnes.  I find that, in situations like this, just telling someone else to make the decision is best.

--I don't know any details yet, but it does look as if there will be a ...

The Widget Contest

Hey everyone,

I've got an important notice today and I hope it doesn't cause too much grief and/or controversy.

As many of you will remember, for the last several book releases we've held a "widget contest" wherein readers have designed "countdown widgets" that have cool graphics and literally count down the days/hours/minutes until the new book goes on sale.

This, like all of our contests, has always been a lot of fun, but this one has also come with its own brand of drama.  Not because of...

Ally's big list of happy things

With all the devastation in the world these days it's pretty easy to get down.  But I can't do that.  I have books to finish and things to do so I'm going to focus on the positive here today and give you Ally's Big List of Happy Things!

-- The WHITE COLLAR season finale.  (Seriously, how good was that episode?  Answer: so, so good!)

--Alex Pettyfer's Abs.  (Saw Beastly with Jen Lynn Barnes.  The abs alone were worth the price of admission.)

--Smashburger.  (Do you have a Smashburger near you?  ...

How to write a novel

One of the most frequent questions I, or any writer, gets is "how do you write a novel"?

Well, there is no easy answer to that question because, of course, writing a novel is no easy feat.  After all, almost everyone will say they'd like to write a novel someday.  The number of people who HAVE written novels (published or not) is far, far smaller.

One reason it's such a hard question to answer is because there is no one, set, preferred way to do it. Some people labor over every word.  Others...
