That face plant moment

Find me on Facebook

So anyway,

If youve been in class this week youve probably seen a massive change in me. I had one of those weekends, following some of those weeks, following some of those months... and if youve read some of my blogs you know that theres been a lot of change in my life recently.

This weekend I had that face plant moment when I realised not just why everything has happened in the last day, week, month, year, but why everything has happened the way it has happened in my life. Thats a lot. Writing it down I can see why I have been a bit overwhelmed!

I understand why Im here and what Im supposed to do with my life. Sounds big, right? Well, luckily enough I did a session with the lovely Lucy Whittington who says it in a kinder way your Thing. If you personally struggle with your Thing (what am I doing with my life?!) then do check her out. Ooh if you click on this link and buy her book I might finally make a few pennies as an Amazon Associate.

I guess I do like to talk in terms of destiny and miracles and big words like that, but Lucy write about it all in very everyday ways. What frustrates you? What problems do you fix for other people?

Anyway the reason I went along to her session (and the whole weekend) was that Id been feeling that although I love Zumba and writing and all the stuff I do I dont feel like Im giving everything I can, and how do I do that!? (And it was actually my boyfriend who started talking to me about starting a travel business and I was like well, its not actually pressing the button to go on holiday that people have problems with, its all the stuff leading up to that, Id like to help people to go on holiday but I dont know how.) I knew it had something to do with coaching, then I got an invite to a free coach/consultant/trainer weekend and I knew I had to go. Then I sat in Lucys session thinking, Come on, come on, what is it that I do?

And then it hit me (and Im sorry if this sounds weird), that what I do is to help people feel alive.

Its what I love about teaching Zumba. That people think that they need to get fit in order to be happy, then come to class and realise that they found their happy and they might as well get fit as well. Or relax, or get angry, or have a safe space to feel sad and shed a few tears (it happens a lot). Because Im not going to freak out if you have an emotion (or if you happen to fart) because we are human beings having a human experience. (Actually my favourite quote which I put on my travel bag is we are not human beings on a spiritual journey, but spiritual beings on a human journey. I had it on my bag I just didnt see it (face plant moment). (And on the farting - nobody smells like roses but guys I dont freak because nothing smells as bad as being in a nightclub event with a room full of Zumba Instructors on a high protein diet. Atkins? Just dont, nobody needs to smell like that.)

Its what I love about spas. When I did organise a few spa trips one lady (who knows who she is) walked in to have her first massage. When she walked out I hardly recognised her. (This also happens sometimes between peoples first and second Zumba classes - they come in looking like a different person.) Five years younger in an hour. Who doesnt want that?!! (Reminder to self: go to spa, go to spa, go to spa.) (I learned that the hard way - six months of no massage then six months of massage every week so I could to get back to normal!) (Guess what, it costs a whole lot more time and money to fix a problem when it gets really bad!)

Its what I love about travel. Guess what, for those of you interested in losing weight. I lost a dress size in one day! How did I do it? I got lost on a mountain in China! Yes, those shorts I thought Id never wear were the only thing that fit me the next morning. (Be careful what you wish for.)

Swimming with manatees in Florida was one of the most blessed days of my life. In that moment I felt gratitude, fulfilment, really, fully truly alive.

I look back at everything in my life and understand it.

I know why I met my boyfriend, I know why I had to get into terrible debt and sort it out (theres something else I can share with you), I know why I had a job in quality management and read the 4 hour work week (to share with you how to find the time), I know why... I know why... I know why...

Its a lot.

Anyway Lucy also has this great exercise in finding your business name (I wont say what she actually calls it because its a registered trademark and its hard enough to get all my Zumba TMs right.) And I was throwing around names of what I do and how I describe it and what would I call this brand new business...

And then I had another face plant moment. The name of my brand new business???? Pearl Escapes. Except ever since I started people have been saying Oh, I thought you did Escapes. Me, no, I write books and a website to tell you how to do it. (Secretly in head oh Id love to go on retreats and do that, but thats for other people.)

And I realised the problem. Ive been trying to teach/coach/inspire whatever you want to call it, people to go on escapes, to feel alive... but I forgot the most important part - the Pearl!!! Its like me trying to teach Zumba by emailing you about the moves, the music, the other instructors, doh!!! And to get people to go on the Escapes they want, without organising them.

Goodness me, Ive had so many face plant moments that its a wonder theres not a dent on my face!!

So, whats in it for you? Lots.

Im not going to stop teaching Zumba, because I love it. (I may tweak my schedule to give me more time to do other stuff but lets put a pin in that for now.)

I am finally going to teach Aqua Zumba (hoorah) because Im going where the pools are - maybe Croatia, maybe Miami... isnt that exciting (oh yes, did I forget to say, youre coming too.) Maida Vale may be too far for a Monday morning but a weekend somewhere wonderful with me? (You see thats another thing I realise Ive been doing some things far too small for you to follow - like my cueing sometimes. Or too complicated, but I know you can do it!)

I am going to run Escapes - 3 day events where not only do you get to do some fantastic stuff with me but you also get the freedom to try your own thing, to find your own alive. An Escape with space!

Im going to help all of you who want to go to the spa to get there and have an awesome time.

Im going to help all of you who want to go on holiday to get there and have an awesome time.

(I know some of you may be thinking - but thats so easy - thats what I thought, but I know there are times in my life when Ive been exhausted and burnt out and I just wished someone would help me to get a break! Unfortunately travel agents can be about as helpful as gyms sometimes when you get that snotty look when you walk in. Come on, stop thinking about the commission... and HELP US!!! Sorry.)

Im going to write books. Way more books. Because one thing I learned from this weekend is that its okay if your books dont make a million - they are there to help people find you! And as I can (sorry, again!) write a book in around 8 hours theres no excuse for me not to. (Having said that the spa books take way, way longer because I have to double check all my facts.)

I am so going to coach you with Plate by Zumba, but in some new ways that wont mean me pedalling even more furiously around Merton (hoorah!!) I have to be in the room for Zumba, but not all the time for this one.

I want to run an Escape alongside the Zumba Cruise at the end of January (put it in your diary) just as soon as I explore Fort Lauderdale and figure out where we are going to have our Escape(s)? on the east coast of Florida. All the ZES (teacher of teachers) in the world on a boat. (Dont worry the water is warm and there are lots of lifeboats - although there are sharks hmmm...)

Theres going to be online coaching, more videos, emails, retreats, seminars, EXPERIENCES!

Most importantly I realised I am your coach, to help you feel alive, find your perfect escape, figure out your right place, right time, what your human experience could be, to help you squeeze the juice out of not just the class, but out of life, to fall in love again with fitness, eating, being touched, being sexy, having fun, swimming, sunsets, moon falls, whatever...

I know how it is to get stuck... in a job, in a relationship, in a family dynamic, in my body, in my head, in my home, in pain, in drinking too much, in eating too much, in spending too much, in working too much, in TEACHING too much!!!, in just feeling that its all too much and you cant cope or go on. I know how it is to be told something is impossible (in your face doctors, Ive beaten your impossibles at least 3 times now!) to feel that you dont have the time or the money.

Whenever I have a tough time in business I go back to these: Theyre called the Four Mantras and are in Happiness by Thich Nhat Hanh. Its so good.

He usually uses these for family erm... difficulties but I find they work for me when I get confused about my business relationship with you guys (its tricky as I feel I should be paying you for letting me be a Zumba Instructor sometimes!)

1. Darling, I am here for you. I am here for you. And I was here for you as much as I knew how to be before. Now I realise there is so much I can be there for you for... (I think thats right). If you ever asked me for something before and I shook my head or didnt step up. Ask me again.

1. Darling, I know you are there, and I am very happy. Every time, every class.

3. Darling, I know you suffer, thats why I am there for you. Every time, every class.

4. Darling, I suffer. Please help. This is my Jerry Maguire moment. I used to feel like this every day in my old job when everyone wanted everything and wouldnt do what they needed to get it done (i.e. give me the numbers and Ill make you as many pretty graphs as you want. Give me 4 hours if you want me to give you a great job.) Anyhoo, this is the moment when I say to you Help me! Help me to help you!! Help me to help you!! The moment when I say who wants a harder work out? And then I see who has their hand up (you know who you are!) and I say, okay... show up on time... bring your water so you dont have to go out for it... dance every second, give me happy knees... and most of all, please, please, please, please... STOP TALKING and let me give you 100%! (You should have seen my first Aqua Zumba class - 80% screaming stop talking and 20% actual class. Next one was 99% actual class!!!! yeay!!!! and 1% stop talking!) By the way if you ever end up in a 1 to 1 coaching session I may just let you talk for one hour - but not in a group - its not fair on the rest of the guys.

Phew - you can see why I am a bit tired at the mo. Thank goodness I have a gentle weekend planned (yes, relaxation is another big part of what I am going to share with you).

So thats it. I am here for you. Finally, fully, ready after 5 years of hanging up the Pearl Escapes sign on my door, I am ready. Are you ready for me?

And if you want to help me, now is the time. Tell me. Tell me what you need, what you want, what you dreamed of - especially, especially the ones you think are impossible. (As you know I prefer the word challenging.)

The difficult well do right now, the impossible may take a little while.

Much love, Pearl x

Free Water Bottle to Celebrate Global Wellness Day

This Saturday is Global Wellness Day https://www.facebook.com/globalwellnessday (they nicked the pic from my dance course!) And one of the ways you can join in is to use less plastic bottles, something I am very passionate about as Ive seen the damage that all that plastic can do when I visited Turtle Hospitals in Florida (cutest animal ever, but it is a reptile and is not fluffy at all!)

So, to celebrate Global Wellness Day I am going to do another Pearl Escapes water bottle and you can get one just by bringing a friend to class in June or July - so some of you already earned it! You can also earn as many as you like, while stocks last!

This wont be for the Thursday Wimbledon Guild class, as newcomers get a free first class, but it applies to all other classes in the schedule, including the chair classes!

By my conservative estimate weve saved 15,000 water bottles with the red Pearl Escapes water bottles and 15,000 with the blue ones, so thats 30,000 less plastic hazards for turtles and other marine life!

To take part in Global Wellness Day you can do any one of these things:

Walk for an hour
Drink more water
Dont use plastic bottles
Eat organic
Do a good deed
Have a family dinner
Go to be bed before 10pm

http://www.globalwellnessinstitute.com/global-wellness-day/

And heres a few more suggestions just from me to help you embrace wellness:

Get sexy (or just friendly) - have a kiss and cuddle with someone you love
Take a moment to meditate or pray - just take a moment to breathe in and give thanks for everything positive in your life right now
Stop worrying - even if just for a moment, five minutes or for the length of a movie - put your worries down, relax and then pick them up again if you want to
Book that massage youve been dreaming of
Eat a piece of fruit mindfully - stop, eat a peach, or apple or banana thinking about nothing but the taste of it, the journey it took and how much good it is doing you.
Try the Hawaiian healing practice of Ho'oponopono; focus on something in your life that needs healing or forgiveness and repeat the mantra: I'm sorry, Please forgive me, I love you, Thank you

Plate by Zumba Has Arrived

Im very excited to trial this myself before my summer holiday! By my count I have 7 weeks to see what a difference Zumba Gold-Toning plus a healthy eating boost can do for my body (I love to experiment on myself - food, exercise, clothes, shoes, massage - its a tough job but someones got to do it). Zumba Head Office are recommending that it will take some time to learn the program (and it aint happening this weekend!) but in the meantime I just wanted to share the experts behind the programme so you can get as excited as me!!

MARK HYMAN, M.D.
Doctor, Author
Dr. Mark Hyman is an American physician, scholar and an eight-time #1 New York Times bestselling author. He is currently Director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine and maintains his own practice dedicated to tackling the root causes of chronic disease.

Lisa Dorfman
Sports nutritionist
Lisa is a MS, RD, CSSD, and LMHC. Since 1983, Lisa has built a global integrative sports nutrition and performance practice, consulting to Olympian, professional, collegiate, and junior athletes. Lisa formerly served as Director of Graduate Program in Nutrition for Health and Human Performance at the University of Miami, Sports Nutritionist for the Hurricanes athletic teams, and as an instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Sciences.

Neal Barnard, M.D
Clinical researcher
Dr. Barnard is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and President of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. As president of the Physicians Committee, Dr. Barnard leads programs advocating for preventive medicine, good nutrition, and higher ethical standards in research.

I know, WOW! right?

I will be looking at ways of bringing this to you as soon as possible - like Gold-Toning Id like to trial it in some way to see whats effective and wanted before I set up my September schedule. So if you have ideas of how a healthy eating programme could fit into your life then please, please let me know!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all you guys who completed reward cards recently! I am so proud of all of you!

Esther completed 15 classes, fit and furious!

Cheryl completed 15 classes, fantastic!

Maureen completed 35 classes, thats phenomenal!

Lorna completed 130 classes, well thats amazing!

Thank You...

...for being you!

Much love, Pearl

Apologies for iPhone glitch

So sorry guys, my iPhone went a bit glitchy after I went away (well, so has everything else at the moment! Appliances in my house are blowing up on a daily basis!) So far iPhone, iPod, iMac, ay carumba! ... kettle, bike, fuses lets just hope thats the lot!

If you sent me a text message and I didnt reply please dont think I was being rude and please do resend!

I know a few people messaged me about the Zumba Gold Toning class and so just FYI I have 4 spaces left for tonight and 2 pairs of sticks left to hire out!

Meditation for Angry People

Yes, its here! My new book!

I think a lot about anger as I struggle with it and use a lot of meditation techniques to keep me calm (or calmer at least than I would be without them!)

I wanted to share these with everyone as I know how destructive anger can be when it is turned inward or expressed poorly and I really hope this book can help people around the world.

This is the back cover:

Anger is like fire. Sometimes it can be useful, sometimes it can be destructive, sometimes it can feel that we just can't get a spark started although we feel like were sitting on a powder keg.

We're all human and we all have anger, whether others see us as angry and bitter or smiling and carefree.

This book is written to help you understand your own anger, whether it stems from fear, sadness, resentment, control, self-blame or holding on to old pain. It's written to help those who feel burdened with anger that they just can't express, those who feel the pain of almost overwhelming anger or those who find it difficult to get through the day without one really good tantrum.

This book is written to help you choose how to handle your own anger, find your own peace and live your own life.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all you guys who completed reward cards recently - there are so many of you! I am so proud of all of you!

Ruby completed 5 classes, fit and furious!

Val completed 15 classes, phenomenal!

Alex completed 15 classes, funktastic!

Thank You...

...for being so sweet to the cover instructors, for welcoming me back with open arms and for all your interest and concern about my holiday. I am sorry if I surprised any of you with some of my comments; this holiday was as much of a test as a rest, hopefully I will have more positive stories to tell you next time!

Much love, Pearl

Meditation For Angry People

Find me on Facebook

Hi there,

Yes, after years of thinking on this subject I decided to squeeze it all into one little book with a couple of cute (okay home-made) illustrations.

Its an ebook so you can download it and read it instantly. The downside is that theres no back cover. If there was, this is what it would say:

Anger is like fire. Sometimes it can be useful, sometimes it can be destructive, sometimes it can feel that we just can't get a spark started although we feel like were sitting on a powder keg.

We're all human and we all have anger, whether others see us as angry and bitter or smiling and carefree.

It's written to help those who feel burdened with anger that they just can't express, those who feel the pain of almost overwhelming anger or those who find it difficult to get through the day without one really good tantrum.

This book is written to help you choose how to handle your own anger, find your own peace and live your own life.

I really hope it helps people around the world - and Ive priced it sooo very cheaply because I believe we can all use the help. (I plan on going back to it every time I get enraged.)

Im working on a paper copy too because theres nothing quite like seeing your own book in print - and I already have the back cover.

Much love, Pearl x

Zumba Gold-Toning Has Landed!

Zumba Gold-Toning starts next Thursday! So sorry for the short notice guys but I really wanted time to review the programme and the choreo for Zumba Gold-Toning and... I love it!

Yes, it will work anybody hard, so everyone is welcome - not just Zumba Gold participants.

Its a great all over body workout (dont worry were going to be toning the legs too!) In Zumba Gold-Toning the moves are slower than for Zumba Fitness and Zumba Gold (this is true of the regular Toning routines) which makes you work even harder! Also one of my personal concerns about using Toning sticks is tripping over weights people have put on the floor - but in Zumba Gold-Toning we will ALWAYS put weights to the side of the room when not in use.

If youre not entirely sure if its for you please do check with your GP, or you can take the class without weights until you feel comfortable with all the moves (and of course use weights for part of the class and put them down any time you feel tired or discomfort).

To make sure that you can give this a proper try before the summer holidays I am running a 6 week course starting Thursday 4th June (next week!) The numbers are going to be limited to 15 people as my top priority with this class (as with all classes) is SAFETY! so I am giving priority booking until the end of Monday 1st June to those who wish to book the full six weeks. If you cant or dont want to book for six weeks then please give me your name for the waiting list and I can book you in, if there is availability, from Tuesday 2nd June.

The class is 6, and you can either hire the sticks from me for 1 per class or buy for 16 (I understand the feeling No one touch MY sticks!). Either way, if you have bought the sticks and want to sell back to me for 10 or hire for 6 weeks and then want to keep your pair for 10 you wont lose out!

Call or text me on 07770 846 284 if you have any questions or want to book.

Aqua Zumba

Sadly I still havent managed to set up a class for you guys, (although I am teaching a cover class!) but...

There will be a major Aqua Zumba Pool Party on Friday 10th July in central London featuring the WORLDs TOP AQUA ZUMBA INSTRUCTORS!

https://www.facebook.com/events/947196698644593/

Tickets go on sale on Monday 1st June. See you there!

Congratulations!

Maria completed 5 classes, fit and furious!

Rachel completed 15 classes, phenomenal!

Polina completed 15 classes, funktastic!

Plate by Zumba

Another new innovation by Zumba Plate by Zumba a healthy eating class is coming soon!

The first trainings are scheduled to start in two weeks and it sounds pretty exciting:-

"For the past ten years I have been reading every book, research paper, and article about nutrition that I could get my hands on. There are many different theories and what we did with Plate was select the healthiest path. When we tested it, we found that it created sustainable change, not just short-term weight loss. Plate by Zumba changed their relationship with food, the same way that Zumba changed their relationship with exercise." Alberto Perlman, Zumba CEO

Dealing With Weakness

Recently I wrote a blog about how great it is when things break... unfortunately it wasnt the end of my string of things (and me) breaking down.

As I did my usual thing of working to the point of collapse and then collapsing on holiday, I discovered I had pushed things too far and a relaxing holiday turned into dealing with some rock hard walls that I crashed into.

It had to happen. Although it didnt have to happen exactly like that! I understand that in life we dont choose our lessons, we can choose how we learn them.

Hitting limits and overcoming them has also been a subject that has come up for me since I got back - not only thrashing through a hefty schedule, but also taking my Zumba Toning training last Sunday, where we looked at the fitness practice of overload - pushing ourselves to our absolute limit in order to create fitness gains.

Whether its mental, physical or spiritual do we really have to crash into and through our limits in order to transform our lives?

I know that there are many times when I have hit a physical limit, either through injury or exhaustion, and then worked through it (with the help of a physiotherapist) and, having gone through that limit, learned how to avoid it and get stronger and more capable. So, having that injury, that pain, that problem is part of a journey that takes me beyond it. So, is it a blessing in disguise?

Speaking of my recent holiday, I definitely hit walls with my eating and sleeping and have got back into good habits, but the biggest thing for me was hitting a huge, painful wall of emotion. It had been building for a long time and yes, I was thinking conventionally, blaming a lot of the pain on being in a long distance relationship, blaming it on my significant other, just as I could blame my back pain on doing Zumba when an old injury flared up after 6 months of taking classes. But through the kindness of my significant other, some great spiritual resources, and really looking deeply at the pain I realised that the weakness was underlying, an old pain, an old injury. While it would never have flared up to that extent if I wasnt in a relationship, the fact that it did meant that I finally dealt with it, worked through it and let it go.

One of my wonderful spiritual books Return To Love by Marianne Williamson explains it like this; The moment when the pain is the greatest is a wonderful opportunity. The ego would prefer that we never look too directly into the pain. When in crisis, theres a good opportunity we might have a slip and ask ... for help. The ego would prefer that we not go into crisis. The ego prefers that a mild river of misery run through the background of our lives, never bad enough to make us question whether our own choices are creating the pain. For more on leaving your ego at the door.

Whatever the weakness that results in pain or injury; whether it is mind, body or spirit, our greatest opportunity is to focus on it, deal with it, get stronger and move forward rather than letting it hold us back, because sometimes when we embrace our weaknesses they can become our greatest strengths.

May 7 - What Do You Believe?

Find me on Facebook
Follow me on Twitter

Hi guys,

Personally I believe that in polite company (and on dates) the Millionaire Matchmaker’s rule “no politics or religion” goes a long way, but I find myself looking at the mess that is this year’s general election and seriously, having to chat with my friends about how on earth to figure out to use my very important vote.

There seem to be so very many issues, local, national, global, so very many policies that seem to go against what I believe parties stand for, so many people saying that it’s going to be a coalition, that we are even faced with the choice of whether we use our vote to vote for the main or side dish. And then that’s without considering how much we actually trust the words of the individual politicians. Does it even matter what they say?

So I tried to take it back to what are the most important issues for me, not just personally, but philosophically, and I started thinking about feminism (or as I would put it equalism) and issues such as equal pay, equal parental leave and so on. It doesn’t matter what issues are the most important for you, but I think that sometimes, when we are confused by trying to juggle all the issues and policies, by taking it back to the single most important issue we can start to get our head around the situation.

Anyway, this combined with watching Paula Radcliffe’s goodbye race at the London Marathon and I started to think about her.

Sexism uses science. At the moment I give my boyfriend an out on forgetting things because I believe I have a bigger hypothalamus (part of the brain that deals with memory and lots of supposedly feminine traits), but the truth it’s probably got more to do with the fact I am a Zumba Instructor who is basically doing brain training all day every day (and reducing my chances of ever getting dementia by at least 76%!) I will also parrot out the things I have been taught about the differences between male and female bodies; men have an easier time maintaining muscle mass, women are more at risk of osteoporosis (which reduces with weight training - including body weight training), but maybe none of this is really true. Maybe this is about as true as believing that women have a naturally high mortality rate from childbirth, as in Victorian times, when it was really the fashion of tight corsets that caused problems, as pelvic bone structure never developed properly.

Our beliefs are the most powerful and most dangerous things we possess.

A few decades ago (and even now for many people) it was considered that any woman getting married or having a baby would give up their career. For many women who would like to keep working they still have to sacrifice because of childcare issues, and many rely on Grandma for childcare. In sports it was widely held for many female athletes that having a baby was the end of the road. The message was clear; win your gold medals now because once you put your body through a pregnancy you will never be that fit again.

I love Paula Radcliffe if for no other reason than she took the “risk” of having children (two kids!!) and came back to race. Even her fun, injured, goodbye run last weekend gave her a qualifying time for the Rio Olympics. (Are you sure you want to say goodbye Paula?)

Weaker sex, right? Anyone who says this really has no idea!

Science is constantly evolving and changing, what we believe now may one day seem as silly as believing that the sun revolves around the earth. We should challenge any science, any system, any social convention that goes against what we truly believe, even if a man in a white coat (or a politician with a nice big rosette) tells us different.

A few years ago women were thought to be too silly and hormonal to have their own bank accounts (if they were married), married women needed written permission from their husbands for birth control, doctors prescribed Valium for unfulfilled housewives, and cigarettes for pregnant women to keep the baby small so women would have an easier labour.

We also thought margarine was a health food.

What seems sensible today will seem ridiculous tomorrow. What is far fetched today will be the norm very soon. It’s worth remembering anytime someone (especially politicians) try to tell you how you should act, what you should believe, or how you should vote.

Much love, Pearl x

Three Months On From This...

Find me on Facebook
Follow me on Twitter

Hi guys,

I’m Not Happy and I’m Ashamed

So it’s a little bit more than 3 months but the wonderful news is that with the cash I’ve saved so far I’m getting on a plane to see my boyfriend!!

Things have improved - not just the massive slashing of credit card interest (and now it’s at a more manageable level they are throwing 0% balance transfer offers at me) but this is what has really changed...

I took action. I got help. I had help offered. And everything changed.

I went from living each month in desperation, fear and blind trust that the universe would provide (well, we all need that really), to feeling a sense of control, of confidence in my own ability to manage money.

I’ve stalled a little bit, I could be more aggressively transferring between cards, but I just want to wait until I’m back in case I get called by the fraud team (again!) and I know I could save a lot more money on my day to day outgoings, but I need a minute. I’ve been working hard on this for 3 months and now is my moment to go on holiday, live like a millionaire in a 4-5 star resort that I got a massive 75% off on Expedia(!) and maybe even blow some money on a jet ski. (Just a rental - don’t worry!)

Because just like losing weight and getting fit, we can enjoy the journey and the gains (or losses) but I know that I never would have done this, never moved out of that terrible position I was in, if I hadn’t had the incentive of freeing myself up from debt so that I could make plans and see the man I fell in love with last year.

Having got my act together I can finally sit down with him and talk about our future together with confidence and peace, instead of panic, in my heart.

Much love, Pearl x

On Loving Your Body

It’s my deeply held belief that in order to resolve any problem love is the answer; if we want to heal issues in our relationship, with our families or with our bodies we must love first, instead of waiting for everything to be perfect in order to love. But, as my mum would say “if it was easy everyone would be doing it”.

Even after saying to everyone at the beginning of class on Monday evening, “we come to class to fall in love with our bodies” this is the talk that goes through my head: “I should take it easy I have a whole week of classes, no, I need to go hard, I’m seeing my boyfriend in ten days, I need to look awesome, no, because I’ve put on a little weight and my boobs are awesome so I don’t want to lose anything, and if I lose more weight then maybe my cellulite will look worse...” I exhaust myself!

So I loved finding this blog online and the wonderfully honest story of the Before and After.

https://cannebodyhearme.wordpress.com/2015/04/13/the-after-myth/

If we want to be happy with our bodies, love must come first, so I am going to follow my own advice and pick up this meditation again whenever I fall from being perfectly in love with my own body: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia0w3nzR6dI

Zumba Cruise

It looks good - super good. Unfortunately I am not in a position right now to plan a trip in January (lots going on!) but if you do decide to go ahead and book (it goes on sale to non instructors on 30th April) please go use my unique instructor ID, (which is 114250) when you book and we will both get a $25 Zumbawear certificate (plus I’ll be in with a chance to win a spot on the cruise or other goodies!)

The trip includes classes with Beto and every, single ZES from around the world for unlimited classes, 2 exotic destinations (including Zumba’s private island!) in Haiti and Jamaica, an exclusive toes-in-the-sand concert experience, and so much more.

Costs start from around $699 (not sure if this is with Zumba Instructor discount) and includes all food and activities for the whole family - not just Zumba!

There are 4,400 spaces (around 4,000 instructors booked Convention on the very first day!) so if you are keen I would recommend you get ready to book on 30th April!!

Bank Holiday Changes and Closures

For the Bank Holidays due to popular request I am planning to run the Saturday classes as normal but the Bank Holiday Mondays will not have classes.
