Diego Rivera: Indian Warrior, 1931

Of all the panels Rivera made for The Museum of Modern Art, Indian Warrior reaches back farthest into Mexican history, to the Spanish Conquest of the early 16th century. An Aztec warrior wearing the costume of a jaguar stabs an armored conquistador in the throat with a stone knife. The Spaniard’s steel blade—an emblem of European claims to superiority—lies broken nearby. Jaguar knights,

Sounds fun. I sadly didn't have time to watch TOD for the anniversary as planned but I will rewatch them all very soon, I love the whole series to death. It's a shame if we get another movie it'll likely not be anything like TOD again :/ I love that movie

Oh yes, but I do like Kingdom, moreso than most, I think. I appreciate that they tried something new and different and tried to stick with the feeling of Indiana Jones. I think they actually hit all the right notes, except for the script, which was horrible. But Raiders and Temple are fantastic, perfect films in my opinion, and I love them both.

Meanwhile, in all the hullabaloo of Temple turning 30, I think it’s being overlooked that Last Crusade turns 25 today. So! A rewatch is definitely in order.

I agree with you on the Indy movies. I always loved how dark and daring TOD was compared with the rest and think it's a shame the subsequent films tried to be a lighter Raiders instead of doing new and inventive things with the character. That said, I stil

I didn’t get a chance to rewatch it today as a part of the 30th; I wanted to, but you know, responsibilities. I’ve got two kids, and that can mean a bit of corraling. However, I’m working on doing a chronological run through of the entire Indiana Jones saga, including all of the games and films. So I’m working on Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb, then I’ll rewatch Temple of Doom, then Raiders, then Crusade, then I’ll play Staff of Kings, then Fate of Atlantis, then Infernal Machine, then rewatch Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Interestingly, if you go in that order, you get two horror-themed stores (Emperor and Temple), then a trilogy of Christian-themed artifacts (Raiders, Crusade, and Staff), and then a trilogy of sci-fi (Fate, Machine, and Kingdom). It’s a really fun way to go through the franchise.

God I’m a nerd. I love it.

Hey, hope you're doing good :) Found this after doing an Indiana Jones Tumblr search. I see you're a big Indy fan, I am too, love that series! Saw on your Twitter that you feel Last Crusade is the weakest, I must agree. I love them all but I'm in the minor

That is exactly how I would rank the Indy series: Temple, Raiders, Kingdom, and then Crusade.

It’s polarizing to say that Crusade is the weakest, especially since so many people remember it with such nostalgia. I think that, for many fans, Last Crusade was a lighthearted adventure romp with laughs and father-son moments that stood out after the dark, violent thriller of Temple of Doom. I think a lot of people responded to it, like “Hey, look! Indiana Jones is back and not really crazy dark!” and in that they didn’t really look at how comical and silly Crusade was, especially when all that comedy was sandwiched inbetween really tight, really memorable action sequences. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull continued on that trend of silliness, but into more of an extreme, which is why I think people dislike it. I understand it’s a flawed film, and it is by no means near the quality of Raiders or Temple, but Kingdom is a much more entertaining and interesting film because of those flaws, and because of how high-velocity it is, and because it tries something new and different and isn’t attempting to be Raiders 2. Still, that said, I’ll sit down and watch Last Crusade and enjoy it for what it is. I’m just a sucker for Indiana Jones.

I give it two weeks tops before someone makes a really popular audio post based on this.
