Today’s snippet comes a little bit after last week’s. It is still from Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series. We discovered last week that Nikolai and Galen had an ulterior motive for seeing out Brooke, but now they are about to run into a spot of trouble…
“Nikolai froze, can you get in her head?
Galen tried to gently enter Brooke’s consciousness, but came up against a wall. It was as if she had an iridium shield where most humans had no protection.
What the fuck happened? Nikolai asked. Humans don’t have these kinds of shields.
Galen paused. This made their plan more difficult, but they’d adjust. The way she appeared to respond to their presence? They could use that to their advantage; finding answers was too important to have scruples.”
Sexy Steampunk 2 is done and now has a publication date: April 16th! Talk about scrambling to get things set up in time. I am checking my email every two seconds for the cover. I have discovered it is just a little difficult to organise marketing without a book cover;). I am starting to make progress with Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series…slowly, but steadily;).

Today’s snippet comes a little bit after last week’s. It is still from Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series. We’re leaving Brooke’s point of view and are now seeing her from Galen’s. The two men may have some ulterior motive for being where they are…
“She reminds me of an Amazon, Galen Kinvin thought when he caught sight of Brooke Deverell. They’d had pictures of her, but none had showed her vitality or the spine- tingling energy she exuded.
The way she leaned back in her chair showed her long body to its best advantage. Her butt-long, chocolate-brown hair had been tied into thin braids and he had to restrain his hands from reaching out. He could discern the skeletory cyborg implants, but she had more than enough curves to make exploring her body a pleasure feast for the senses.
His blood pumped faster, most of it going south; Nikolai stood so close, he felt bathed in his lover’s heat, which didn’t help keep his arousal contained.
Pity she’s involved in this, otherwise we could’ve combined our work with some fun, Nikolai said to Galen through their mindlink. Despite having been together for decades, the intimacy of Nikolai’s voice in his head caused a little shiver of pleasure.”
The day job has sucked up most of my week and most of my brain this week. I am still working on the final read-through of Sexy Steampunk 2, but hope to have that back to my editor next week. It all depends on how long it takes me to write the blurb. Give me a synopsis any day…

Today’s snippet comes a little bit after last week’s. It is still from Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series. Brooke is following the progress of two very attractive men across the bar while taking a com message. The two guys are incredibly attractive and keep distracting her. But then she makes a discovery.
“Galen winked at her. He turned to Nikolai and said something.
Nikolai threw back his head and laughed. He flashed fangs.
Jade, he’s a Vampire. No wonder everything in her stood at attention. Vampires had a reputation for sexual magnetism all across the universe.
She looked at the smiling Galen; nope, no sign of fangs, but he radiated power.”
I am still neck-deep in the edits for Sexy Steampunk 2 and in the back of my mind am mulling over Tangled Redemption. Now if there were just a few more hours in the day…

“The taller of the man candy raised his hand in a wave. He leaned back, gently kissed his partner on the lips and said, “Give me a minute, Nikolai,” before striding over to the other pilot. His smooth voice carried easily above the low hum of talk. He navigated the uneven splintered floors with a sleek grace that made Brooke drool just the tiniest bit.
Their kiss caused her to sigh with disappointment, but she could still appreciate.
She studied him from under her lashes, while pulling her comp off the heavy belt that separated the tight synth-shirt and pants to check her messages. She needed a job. If her M-box stayed empty, she’d be in trouble soon. Word of The Debacle during her last job had travelled.”

My Writing Process Blog Tour
Friend and fellow author Joan Leacott has invited me to speak about my process on the My Writing Process Blog Tour.
1) What am I working on?
I am currently working on Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. Sydney, a Naema we first meet in Tangled Hunger, gets into a spot of trouble with the Spaniard, a character I have mentioned a number of times in all three books. And then Jayden appears on the scene and makes both of them pay attention.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
My universe is ruled by Vampires, Naemas and Humans. I have Vampires in space;). They are just another species that follows some of the Vampire myths, but I also bring new twists to the genre. Naemas are part angel, part demon, who have to face their own challenges. And then there are Humans, who have to live in a universe where they are physically weaker, but stand out through sheer numbers and by being savvy.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I like to make s*** up and not be limited. Although I try to stick to reality, I love that if I want it to rain gum balls, I can make it rain gum balls. I am the Queen of my very own Galaxy;).
4) How does your writing process work?
I usually start with either a situation or a character. For example Rescue by Ruin started with Beatrice climbing aboard a dirigible of ill-repute to ruin her reputation. Then Things Happen.
After that I discover my character’s back story. Why? Why? Why? Goal, motivation and conflict are key. The next step is an outline. I just need to know the key steps. What happens between them the characters tell me. For my last project, Sexy Steampunk 2, the sequel to Rescue by Ruin, I put each scene on a post-it note and lined them up on the wall. That way I could remove one every time I finished a scene. I haven’t yet done this yet for Tangled Redemption, but I may do so next;).
This is me in my somewhat chaotic and still evolving nutshell.
Next Monday discover the process of two of my friends.

Today I am sharing the opening to Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series.
Hot Jade, somebody broke the mold after creating those two.
Brooke Deverell slouched in her chair and admired the man candy who walked into the bar. Her hormones sat up and danced, telling her it had been far too long since she’d had anything other than solar-powered toys between her legs.
The bar had seen better days, but that was the norm for a remote outpost like Teren. Smoke and the scent of cheap meat cooking hung in the air like a wet blanket. A handful of customers sat scattered throughout the dimly lit, one-room building, the majority of them pilots and mercenaries taking a quick break for refueling. One youngster, judging by the way he threw his credits around to entice enthusiasm out of the bored street courtesans, had just gotten paid.
Three men sat around a table close to the entrance, opposite from Brooke, dressed in flight suits scarred by experiences and battles, carrying their weapons in the open; one of the mercenaries called out, “Galen.”
I am currently working on Tangled Redemption, the fourth and final book in the Celestial Surrender series. It is fun to dive back into my sci-fi world after spending a lot of time in steampunk London. At the moment all my characters are somewhat prickly, but I am hoping once I get a little deeper into the story they will start to talk to me.
