Today’s snippet is from my new release Danger by Dalliance, a historical erotic menage with steampunk elements. It follows on closely from last week’s opening, where Sarah walked away from her best friend.

“Just about forty minutes later, her arm aching from the weight of the bag, she arrived outside his house.

Sarah paused at the bottom of the steps; even a few years ago it would have been unthinkable for a young woman like her to visit a man by herself, but progress had come to the Empire in the form of science and invention, which in course had loosened some restrictions.

Just as long as she didn’t make visiting him a daily occurrence, she would be fine.

She hated that she had to go to him with her metaphorical hat in hand, but her alternatives were unacceptable; she exhaled, walked up the stairs and used the brass knocker in the shape of a dragon-how fitting.

The door opened to the butler, a tall, middle-aged man with the pinched lips and disapproving eyes of his profession: “Good afternoon, how may I help you?”

Sarah stepped inside the large entryway. “I am here to see—”

“Jennings, who is it?” The deep voice made her shiver.

I just hit send on the first round of revisions for my steampunk Christmas novella, which means that now I am second guessing every decision I made. The only way to stop my head from exploding is to quickly get back to Tangled Redemption and have that fill my brain;).

“Miss Sarah Emma Rigdon wrinkled her nose and turned her back on her best friend since childhood. A gasp went through the crowd of people surrounding them. She wanted to turn back, show her support, be there for Beatrice. But she couldn’t afford to draw the attention of gossipmongers.

She continued on with measured steps, ignoring the whispers and stares around her. Her grip tightened on the handle of the bag she carried. Her purse over her other wrist, she walked along the path. Only a few more steps, you’re nearly there; Sarah kept her face expressionless, pretending not to see or hear anything.”

If you have read Rescue by Ruin you may remember this scene from a different point of view;).

I am hard at work at revising the Christmas novella I’ve sold to Loose Id and adding words to Tangled Redemption. I am back to needing more hours in the day and a full-time job that doesn’t require most of my brain function. Oh, and I desperately need to find a solution to my procrastination;).

Weekend Writing Warriors-Tangled Shadows Snippet 7

Today’s snippet is the last from Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series. Nikolai and Galen came looking for Brooke because they believe she has information that will save the galaxy. When they couldn’t read her mind as expected they set scruples aside and followed their intense attraction. After a night of unimaginable pleasure they leave the planet while she’s asleep, basically kidnapping her. Now they have to face the music. Brooke is the first one speaking. “Why the Jade are we in hyperspace?”

Nikolai saw the storm brewing behind her eyes; she was not a happy Space Cadet; he stroked his hand down Galen’s shoulder and took a step toward the woman who had hit both of them in the heart, “Milaya, sit down and let us explain.”

“I don’t want to sit, I want you to turn this rust bucket around and take me back to Teren.”

“Easy, no maligning the Mercy,” Nikolai wanted to bite his tongue; his instinctive response to calling his beloved ship a rust bucket was not the best way to deal with her justifiable anger.

“I’m more than happy to leave your stupid boat alone, as soon as you take me back,” she clenched her fists, her body stiff.

“We can’t,” Galen’s words stopped her in her tracks.

Brooke studied them with a narrowed gaze, their seriousness sunk in and some of her belligerence drained away, “Where are you taking me?”

“The Hamil Quadrant,” Galen replied.”

Today’s snippet comes a little bit after last week’s. It is still from Tangled Shadows, book 1 in the Celestial Surrender series. Nikolai and Galen came looking for Brooke with a plan in mind, but were forced to adjust that plan when they couldn’t read her thoughts. They have teased Brooke across the bar with glances and suggestions, giving their combined power time to sink into her. Now they are at her table and trying to seduce her…If you’d like to read more about what happens in the bar read the excerpt here.

“Brooke burnt from the inside. It was as if solar flares flashed through her, racing from one end of her body to the other. And he only looked at her.

She studied the male gods in front of her “Company?”

For a second she imagined what it would feel like to actually be touched by Nikolai and Galen. They would help her forget her worries for a few hours-guaranteed; shame they didn’t play for the right team.

Nikolai’s grin turned wicked. “What do you think, Galen, have we hit on something here?”

I am still waiting for my cover for Sexy Steampunk 2. Fingers crossed I will have it next week, so I can share that and a snippet with you. Real Life has been completely crazy and some bad news took the feet out form under me for a moment. Luckily I have good balance and I am working my way back to standing straight;).

Excerpt.

“Have you even slept yet?” he asked, his gaze turning darker as he studied her face.

Sammy swallowed and shook her head weakly. “No, not yet. I can’t seem to fall asleep.” She wondered how she could feel so tired, so weary, yet wide awake at the same time.

Josh swore loudly and moved to her.

Sammy watched as he climbed onto the bed, his big body making the mattress dip under his bulky weight. He threaded his arm under her neck slowly and drew her into his arms. At first Sammy was stiff and confused, but the more he stroked her hair and kissed the top of her head, the more Sammy found she relaxed. The pain receded slightly, freeing up her mind and Sammy was able to catch her breath again.

“You don’t have to do this,” she said weakly, but Josh just tightened his arm around her, making sure Sammy rested her cheek on his chest. His heartbeat was a strong sound under her ear and Sammy reveled in the heat his massive body gave off. They lay in silence for a couple of minutes, and Sammy would have thought it would be awkward, but the way he held her, gently, yet sure and strong, had Sammy sinking closer and closer to the comfort he offered.

“When I was a kid, I broke my arm.” Josh began, breaking the lazy silence. His deep voice was a lovely rumble against her ear. Sammy smiled and closed her eyes as she listened to him speak, the sound of his words a balm to her nerves, a welcome distraction to her pain. “I was climbing trees with my brother, and as usual, Tony was faster and better at it than me.”

Sammy chuckled at the image. Tony was a stocky, slightly overweight man, she couldn’t imagine him climbing a tree, let alone fast.

Josh huffed a small sound and stroked his hand idly over Sammy’s arm. Sammy loved the feeling of his hot, calloused hand as it petted her, the feeling was comforting … nice. She stayed still and kept her eyes closed, and she hoped he wouldn’t stop talking, or stroking.

“You might laugh, sweetheart, but in his day, before kids and a wife, Tony was the coolest lad in town.” Sammy smiled against his chest, her mind slowly relaxing, the pain less, and all she could concentrate on was the sound of Josh’s lovely, sexy voice. Especially when he uttered the easy word, sweetheart. No one ever used an endearment for her, and she found she liked it, a lot.

“I heard how women ruin good men.” Sammy said teasingly, even as she yawned against his chest.

“They certainly do.” Josh replied.

Sammy heard the catch in Josh’s voice, and she suddenly remembered what she’d been told about him being jilted last year. The reminder sent a strange tense feeling through her body, leaving a cold pain in her lungs. But Sammy, selfishly, didn’t want to ruin the only time she had ever been comforted in such a nice way, so she changed the subject back to safer grounds.

“So, how did you break it?” Sammy asked sleepily, eager for him to continue talking. She snuggled a little closer to Josh’s heat and sighed, contented.

Josh cleared his throat, but continued his gentle stroking of her arm. He kissed the top of her head again and Sammy felt tiredness swarm her mind. She yawned and sighed deeply, sleepiness making her heavy and relaxed.

“Go to sleep, Sammy, and I’ll tell you when you wake up.”

Happy News!

I realised the other day I hadn’t actually shared my Happy News with an official announcement!

My editor at Ellora’s Cave has contracted Sexy Steampunk 2. It is scheduled to release April 16th. It is the sequel to Rescue by Ruin, but either book can be read without the other. They are both independent stories. I am just waiting for the finished cover to reveal the title (which I love;) and the cover.

My editor has also contracted Tangled Redemption, book 4 in the Celestial Surrender series. I am very excited about this book as it will tie up all the loose ends I’ve spread across books 1-3. It also finally puts the Spaniard on the page, something my critique partner has been asking for with every book. This is the first book I have sold on proposal. It is a little intimidating having sold a book that is not yet written, but I am certain I can make it work;).

And lastly, but by no means leastly, Loose Id has contracted my super-sexy steampunk Christmas novella Dirigibles Are Forever. The title is not final. The story has a bit of a James Bond theme (hence the title;) and is filled with smoking hotness and a lot of swashbuckling fun. The release is planned for December 2014.

I am very excited to share all these stories with my readers.

And to use my friend Lexi Post‘s catchphrase: It’s Happy News, that means it’s going to be a great day!
