The Nicest Thing
We just got through a grueling election season, and whether the candidate you backed won or lost, I’ll every one of you is exhausted. I am. Exhausted from the ad bombardments, the bickering and, especially the negativity. The whole thing just about made me forget that feel good moments actually do exist. When my niece, Melanie, was about three, she came up with what’s become one of our family’s mantras (out of the mouths of babes, you know): “Why can’t everybody just be nice?”
It seems simple...
All in the name of research
When I was young, my father, a once-history teacher, would drag us all over the continental U.S. showing us historical sites. As a kid, I detested it. Well, that’s not fair. I would grouse, but once there was kind of into it.
Fast forward. Well, I now write about history, and nothing makes a story more real to me, and I’m guessing to readers, than actually visiting the area you will write about.
So far, I’ve written about St. Simons Island, GA., Charleston, S.C, Salem, MA, the outer banks, Sava...

Election Day. Thank God.
Today is “Tuesday at the theater” on Blame it on the Muse. And what says “theater” more than American politics, eh?
***I interrupt this blog to say: if you haven’t yet voted or turned in your ballot, stop what you’re doing and do that right now!***
Are you just as relieved as I am that these elections are over (or will be by the end of the day)? I’m so tired of all the bickering and mean-spirited political ads. So sick of all the commercials. So tired of all the theatrics on both sides. Sheesh....

Love Story
I enjoy a good love story. Over the last week I’ve found myself reading a mammoth book-The Mammoth Book of Scottish Romance to be exact. We live in Northern New Jersey and haven’t had power since last Monday evening. Next to writing I love to read. After months of planning a major Northeast conference and our daughter’s wedding getting lost in stories was just what I needed.
I really love the larger than life Scottish laird who is a determined leader, respected by his people, and oh so awesome...

Will You WriMo This November?
November 1st has officially arrived. Time to board the annual NaNoWriMo crazy train.
After a six month (okay, eight month) post edits writing slump, I decided what better way to climb back on the writing nag than by signing up for the 50k in 30 days challenge. The NaNo website (nanowrimo.org) is chock full of tips, schedules, excitement, and writing cheerleaders. Whether you need a push to complete that stubborn work in progress or a structured word count goal to begin the story that’s been fl...

Happy Halloween
What fun, Wacky Wednesday coincides with Halloween this year. That means only one thing . . .
It’s time for another Blame it on the Muse parody. This one compliments of Edgar Allan Poe.
And to celebrate the day, and the master’s poetry, I’ll be giving away a free download of Last Chance Bride to anyone who DARES to post a comme nt either in Haiku or rhyme. And to make it fun, one random commenter will also win a free download.
And, don’t forget — I’ll be naming the winner of our Halloween book...
Nightmare Before Christmas
There are some things that don’t appear to belong together.–Pickles and marshmallow fluff (although I am told, don’t knock it until you have tried it), plaid and polka-dots (shudder). How about Halloween and Christmas? Imagine: Ghouls and Santa, Candy Canes and Jack-o-Lanterns. Hmm. A weird combination if you ask me.
Tim Burton didn’t think so.
He produced the movie “Nightmare Before Christmas” A strange clay-animation movie that follows a skeletal Jack who finds Christmas enticing.
He even made...
