The Argumentative American by Grace Burrowes

I have voted in every national election since John B. Anderson ran for president, and it seems to me our politics are becoming increasingly contentious. Maybe this is the internet-nastiness factor in action, as alluded to in last week’s post, but I suspect stronger forces are at work.

There’s a theory that we invest in conflict to shore up our identities. Another way to say this is if you’re a McCoy, then you know in your bones that you’re against Hatfields. That’s a card you can carry aro...

Guest Author Joyce Proell

I’m very happy to welcome another great Minnesota debut author, Joyce Proell, to Blame it on the Muse. Joyce has written an amazing historical book called “Eliza” that is already garnering five star reviews. I’m grateful she could come and tell us about her story and her journey today. Welcome, Joyce!

I’m so delighted to be here today. My first book, Eliza, was published by Champagne Books on October 1, 2012. People have asked me what inspired this particular story. Credit must be given to...

An Ode to Baseball

When I signed up to blog on this Whacky Wednesday a long, long time ago, I had no idea that my beloved Nationals would find their way into the baseball playoffs. Nor did I know that I would actually have tickets for the playoff game scheduled for today.

In fact, the Nationals winning the National League Eastern division has thrown a big curve ball at my schedule and my life. But, believe me, I’m loving every minute.

So, in celebration of the baseball playoffs and Whacky Wednesday, I’d like...

Changing Roles

My book club ladies and I have been discussing whether we want to see a movie based solely on the actor selected to play the title character and the movie trailers. I must admit I started the conversation just in order to verify my own eyes were not deceiving me.

The trailer is for the movie, Alex Cross, due out Oct, 19. For those who don’t know, Alex Cross is a detective from several James Patterson novels. Kiss the Girls is one of those novels. In the movie, released in 1997, Morgan Free...

Costly Speech by Grace Burrowes

In the debate about how to balance the right to bear arms with the community’s interest in safety (into which quagmire, I do not intend to drag this blog), some articulate soul has raised the issue that the Founding Fathers’ could not have imagined the lethality of the weapons now available to the citizenry, or the ease with which they could be procured. The implication is that if Jefferson and his associates had had a crystal ball, they might have drafted certain documents more narrowly....

The Other WW

It’s all Kevin Costner’s fault.

Remember when you were little? Wolves were scary bad things.

There was Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother.Wolves in sheep’s clothing were on the avoid-at-all-costs list and the wolf at the door meant something horrible was able to happen.

Then Kevin danced with the wolves and fed into a whole lot of earth-mother/tribe of the wannabe delusions.

When we lived in South Carolina, our next door neighbor’s sister arrived with a wolf one day. As a pet. Sorta w...

Lex Valentine Visits The Muse

For those readers who don’t know me, I’m Lex Valentine. I write across the genres, but mostly I write contemporary erotic gay romances and both M/M and M/F erotic paranormal romance. I have a few other things that don’t fit in either of those categories though.

My latest book is a contemporary gay romance and some people would say it’s high fantasy because it’s a coming out in the NFL novel. Yes, I actually have two players who come out before they retire. They do it before they even play...
